Escaping from Celestia
Adjusting to Ponyville
Previous ChapterNext ChapterWhile Luna and Gray Wings began their patrol of the Everfree Forest, in Ponyville, after a long day, Twilight and Spike were sitting down for supper. While the supper was large by Ponyville standards, it was not as large as what she was used to in Canterlot. The meal especially disappointed Spike, who for the first time in ages, was unable to have any gems with his supper.
Spike had a sad look on his face and asked, "Twilight, do you think we will ever be able to have large meals like we used to?"
Twilight replied, "Well except for when Celestia wants us up in Canterlot for one reason or another, I doubt it. We will just have to make due with what we have." She paused for a minute and continued, "Do you think you can handle smaller meals? After all, I finally have friends and I don't want to leave them."
An idea crossed Spike's mind and he decided to ask Twilight about it. He asked, "Twilight, what about Rarity? Do you think that she might have gems to spare that I could eat?"
Twilight replied, "Spike, I doubt it. She uses those gems for the apparel that she makes and I don't even know where she gets them. I do know one thing, they can't be cheap."
Spike pouted for a minute, which really upset Twilight but then they ate their meal which consisted of carrot soup, corn along with cider. For desert they had some apple pie. Twilight said, "Spike, whether you like it or not, you better get used to apples. I have a feeling it will be a large part of our meals now."
Spike realized this as they were now friends with the Apple Family that Applejack would give them apples for free the same way she does with the rest of her friends. Spike, still having thoughts of Rarity in his mind asked, "Twilight, do you think I'll ever have a chance with Rarity?
Twilight laughed, "Oh Spike! I don't think she sees you as a love interest!" By this time they had finished their meal and with it being late Twilight continued, "It is getting late Spike. I think we need to get to bed. After all, I want to join my new friends at Sugarcube Corner for some breakfast."
Spike yawned, "Ok. Good night Twilight."
While Spike fell asleep quickly Twilight laid in bed wondering if she would really be able to adjust to Ponyville and worried about how she would do without Celestia guiding her.
The following morning arrived more quickly than both of them wanted. The sun was already well above the horizon when Twilight woke up. She shouted, "Spike, we're late! I am supposed to have met my friends five minutes ago!"
Twilight levitated Spike onto her back and rushed over to Sugarcube Corner. She bolted in the door to see her friends were already there. She said, "I'm sorry I'm late girls."
Applejack replied, "It's alright Twilight. You had a lot on your plate yesterday and I know you're adjusting to your new life."
Twilight let out a sigh of relief and replied, "Thank you so much for understanding. I don't think anypony, except Celestia, in Canterlot would have understood."
Rainbow Dash said, "Come on Twilight, we're your friends! You know we'll understand."
Spike was really hungry for some gems and despite what Twilight had said the night before, he thought he would ask Rarity if he could have some gems. He asked, "Rarity, I am really hungry for some gems. Do you think I could have some?"
This really embarrassed Twilight. She had a stunned look on her face when Rarity replied, "Well Spike, I will have to go out and find some because the ones I have right now are needed for a very important order from a wealthy client."
Twilight interrupted, "Find gems? I thought you had to buy them."
Rarity smiled and replied, "Oh no, when I was a filly I discovered I have a special talent for finding gems. So I am able to just go out into the hills east of town and find them." Rarity knew that Spike had a crush on her and believed that she could get him to dig them up for her. She asked, "Spike, could I ask you of a favor?"
Spike replied, "Of course!"
Twilight rolled her eyes in disgust as Rarity asked, "When I go out looking for gems, would you want to come out with me and dig them up?"
Spike had a huge smile on his face and excitedly replied, "Anything for you Rarity!"
Rarity added, "Thank you Spikey-Wikey! When we're out looking for gems, I promise I will let you eat some as long as I have enough for my projects."
Spike gave Rarity a huge hug while Twilight still had an embarrassed look on her face. Rarity saw this and asked, "Twilight darling, whatever is wrong?"
Twilight replied, "Well I'm just embarrassed that Spike would do this."
Rarity said, "It's fine Twilight. Spike is such a nice dragon and wants to help me. After all, having him there to dig them up will be much better than me getting dirty digging them up myself!"
Applejack sighed, "So y'all are just going to use Spike Rarity? You just can't get a bit dirty now can you?"
Rarity asked, "Spike, I need to go find some gems. Would you want to come with me?"
Spike replied, "You bet! Anything for you my lady!"
While Spike and Rarity headed out east of town to search for gems Twilight said to the rest of her friends, "I feel so embarrassed, he normally doesn't act like this."
Rainbow replied, "Oh don't worry about it Twi, Rarity seems happy to have the help and it is obvious that Spike is more than happy to help. Just relax, everything will be fine!"
Fluttershy added, "Come on Twilight, everything is alright."
Pinkie asked, "Twilight, do you want something sweet to eat?"
Twilight replied, "Yeah sure. Maybe a doughnut with extra sprinkles will relax me."
Twilight sat back and began to share a few laughs with her friends which made her much more relaxed. By the time Rarity and Spike returned, Twilight had eaten many more doughnuts than she expected. Rainbow said, "Wow Twi, you ate every single doughnut in the store! Pinkie's going to have to make more."
Pinkie replied, "It's alright. It's what Mr. and Mrs. Cake hired me to do!"
As time passed Twilight and Spike both grew more accustomed to life in Ponyville and soon grew to love it there. Eventually Twilight, who initially missed Canterlot, grew to the point where she didn't miss Canterlot at all.
