The Plight of Return
Chapter 3: The Pain Stops
Previous ChapterNext ChapterSeveral hours after Cadence and the Mane six make it to the Crystal Empire
Sombra awoke to the feeling of falling. It was strange and alien to him. As he fell he saw the strangest sight; himself. He smiled when he saw the cracks running through his body, that would teach the dark magic to try to posses the mighty King Sombra! But at the same time, he saw Willow. She showed only one emotion; fear, and she was looking right at his dark magic possessed body.
He turned away from his former lover and turned towards the Crystal Palace. He thought he saw Dawngazer on the balcony, but if it was, he was different; instead of multiple shades of purple, his mane was multiple shades of blue, instead of his cutie mark being a blue, crystalline sun, it was a shield. He glanced up at the tower and he thought he saw Midnight Shine
That isn't possible, Midnight Shine was taller and wore armor to prevent others from touching her Sombra thought to himself. Maybe it wasn't Midnight, but yet she looked so similar. Maybe the purple unicorn he saw up there was one of her descendants?
Sombra finally decided to look where he was falling. There was a strange looking pony standing below him with open hooves, ready to catch him. Strange he thought I don't remember how I got here
He stole a glance at himself once more and saw himself shatter, then the realization hit him like a train.
He was dead.
And he remembered who the pony below him was; Absque, caretaker of the fallen, queen of the void, patron of unicorns. She had taken the form of a pitch black pegesus to catch him and take him elsewhere.
When she caught him, Sombra tried to squirm out of her grasp. Despite not feeling anything but comfort from her, Sombra still had his phobia of being touched, and it was causing him pain.
Absque sat there, holding him close, comforting and reassuring him, making sure that this unicorn who had died today felt all the motherly love she had for him. She finally pulled close to his ear and whispered reason to the unfortunate soul after a few hours of trying to get him to sleep "I need you to stop struggling, the more you resist, the more likely you are to go to the Aether rather than come with me to your rightful resting place"
Sombra finally decided that resisting her was a futile gesture, as it seemed she was only trying to get him to pass on, rather than lose everything and convert himself into magic. So he nestled into her forehooves and let the sleep overtake him.
Sombra awoke in what seemed like water, but he realized that he actually couldn't see any of it. He couldn't see much at all. He was in the Abyss, or the Void, or the Plane of Eternal Sleep. Whatever it's real name was.
He heard humming to his left and felt some of the water wash over him. He drowsily turned to the left and saw a pitch black pegesus, and he realized that it was still Absque, and she was. . .washing him? And he heard her say something, but he never picked up on it. She slowly cleaned Sombra as she would any other child of hers, with the utmost care and love.
It was so strange and alien to Sombra, he couldn't fathom the amount of pain that he had been through only to have it all washed away. He felt weak and vulnerable, and Absque was compounding it, but at the same time he felt safe and at home, almost as if he back with his mother. He felt the sensation of her cleaning him and realized that his phobia wasn't acting up. He looked at the spot she was scrubbing at; a dark spot over his heart, and the more she scrubbed at it, the less he remembered of that day.
Eventually the spot was gone, Sombra felt a feeling of tiredness wash over him as Absque pulled him from the 'water' and dried him off. then she carried him to an area where there were multiple unicorns sleeping. She carried him over to a bed and used magic to pull the blankets back. Absque placed Sombra in the bed and pulled the blankets over him and tucked him in for the time being.
She leaned over and whispered "Don't worry Sombra, it's all over, just sleep and forget the pain"
Sombra decided to do just that as he closed his eyes and let the pain and memories slip away.

Two chapters within 24 hours! Probably never going to be this fast ever again.
So. . . .How's the story coming? Constructive criticism is welcome here.
I might have gone overboard with this chapter. . . . .
