Chapter 1
Why did it have to be her? Why couldn't they have sent Rarity? They sent the only pony that has ever made me feel this way. The only pony who I care what they thought of me. I wanted to protect her from that side of me. I wanted her to just think of me as that naïve, happy-go-lucky mare who was always comfortable in any situation. Pinkie thought to herself whilst hiding inside a pile of hay.
“Pinkie! Where did you go?” The instigator of all of this internal turmoil. Of course Pinkie couldn't blame her for being so brave, cool, cute, and absolutely badass. It wasn't her fault that the way her radiant mane and tail streaked its many hues left Pinkie positively starstruck. “Pinkie Pie? Why did you just bolt away from me? All I said was 'Hi'” Rainbow continued.
Yeah, thats all it takes to make me spook that hard. Why can't she see how weak and shallow I really am? I mean, I had replaced all my friends with a bucket of turnips, a dust bunny, a pile of rocks, and Madame le Fleur—I mean a bag of flour—just because I made the crazy guess that they had all abandoned me. Which in hindsight made 0 sense! Rainbow Dash was the only one who knew about this side, yet her she was still searching for me.
“Pinkie?” Rainbow asked, slightly dejected. She looked up at the setting sun and mumbled quietly, but not so quiet that Pinkie couldn't hear, “I guess I'll check the bakery tomorrow.” And with that she turned around and flew up into the sky.
Pinkie sighed. Finally, the sooner she learns to stay away forever, the better. For her own sake. She even convinced herself that was how she felt, but there was this tiny part of Pinkie, so tiny she couldn't recognize she even felt it, that wanted her to stay. That part that wanted her to drop everything and come looking for her, so she could confess her undying love for her. Then, Rainbow would put her hooves on both sides of pinkie's face, slowly stroking one hoof down her cheek. Rainbow would lean in ever so slightly and then—MOO! Pinkie looked to see a cow holding her tail in its teeth. Pinkie's surprised look faded into one of disappointment. Oh how Pinkie loved to torture herself by letting those fantasies run their course. During the fantasy, it feels just too good to stop, kind of like eating cupcakes. When you're eating the cupcakes, 9 doesn't seem that big of a number, but afterward, when you're flying around like a rocket and falling ill to the notorious sugar coma, It seems like all the apples in Sweet Apple Acres were cupcakes and pinkie had gobbled all of them up super super fast. At this point Pinkie had climbed out of the haypile and was sitting a few feet away from it, looking at Celestia's sun as it deepened in colour and faded farther and farther out of sight and into space
Just like Pinkie's Pinkie nature.
Pinkie's internal clock woke her up at 8 o'clock. She went into her bathroom and looked in the mirror at herself. Her mane wasn't as poofy as it usually was. It wasn't full Pinkamena either, thankfully. But she felt Pinkamena waiting patiently for a chance to emerge. So, in other words, Pinkie Pie was a land mine.
She dressed herself in a Sugar Cube Corner apron and walked down the stairs. Throughout the morning many of her friends walked in and out, but I suppose that is a given since all of Ponyville was her friend. Many of the ponies noticed Pinkie's slight discolouration. None inquired about it, much less try to help. When Pinkie was sad, most people just tried to ignore it as much as possible, except one pony. And this very pony was the most determined to help her friend. I suppose you couldn't ask any less from the Element of Loyalty.
“There you are Pinkie Pie!” A raspy voice that normally made Pinkie swoon, made Pinkie freeze, “I've been looking everywhere for you,” I know. “I'm glad you're ok”
Pinkie smiled about as wide as Fluttershy does. It made her happy that Rainbow cared about her safety. Not happy enough to forget about anything though. Suddenly Pinkie remembered something. It was Applejack's birthday! “Hey Dashie?” Pinkie asked shyly.
Rainbow looked pinkie in the eye to give her full attention.
Pinkie's eyes darted to the floor to escape the concentration of the beautiful magenta eyes, “Uh, it's Applejack's birthday today, and of course there will be a party tonight, so uh, you're invited of course...”
“Awesome! I'll so be there!” Rainbow exclaimed
Pinkie's heart soared to hear Rainbow being so Rainbow.
“Wait!” Rainbow's face scrunched up, “Tonight-tonight?”
Pinkie nodded her head.
“Ah! I have tryout with the Wonderbolts! Sorry, but this is waay more important than some birthday party!” She said puffing out her chest in the most adorable way. Rainbow was just hopping all around the land mine. Rainbow dash looked over at Pinkie. Pinkie's look of utter and complete despair fell and was replaced with the most fake smile ponyly possible. Luckily, Rainbow was too focused being pumped to notice. “I've got to go practice” And with that Rainbow flew out of the bakery. Pinkie sighed and as she sighed, her mane fell just a little bit flatter.

Chapter 3
The party was great. Not like Pinkie even noticed. She just let herself autopilot through planning it. She just stood near the punch making sure no underage ponies got any of the punch. Pinkie had made it strong perhaps too strong but she didn't care.
The door opened and particularly mopey Rainbow Dash walked in. She made her way straight to the punch. She poured an almost overflowing cup.
“It's pretty strong.” Pinkie warned flatly. Rainbow just snorted and chugged a quarter of the cup. She swallowed, cleared her throat, and shook her head. Pinkie just watched as Rainbow repeated the process until the cup was empty. She refilled the cup . On any other day, Pinkie would try to stop them, but now, she just stood there and watched Dash drink this cup without gagging or shaking her head.
Twilight glanced over and saw Dash standing next to an unsmiling Pinkie. Dash was swaying as she refilled her cup once more. “Is Rainbow going to be alright?” Twilight asked.
“Don't worry darling, Pinkie is there. She would never let Rainbow get too out of hand” Rarity said remembering the times Rarity's drinking was interrupted by the pink angel.
Dash was on her 4th cup and she still hadn't said a word to Pinkie. Dash was on her 4th cup and Pinkie still hadn't stopped staring at her at her. “Waddaya lookin' at? Why the hell ya just starin' ad me?!” Dashes voice was so slurred Pinkie made a well educated guess that Dash was shit-faced. She took a chance once she couldn't stand being silent anymore.
Pinkie leaned in to Dashes ear and whispered softly, “Because you're beautiful.” (Fault in Our Stars reference not intentional)
Dash, never taking complements well sober much less drunk, just looked down and mumbled something that sounded like “Whatever”
The other 4 were looking at the pair. AJ spoke, “What's she sayin'”
“I can't tell,” Rarity responded, “the lighting is positively dreadful, but look at Rainbow Dash. It must have been something strange” All 4 of the ponies nodded their heads in agreement.
Pinkie smile her first genuine smile in a while. Why does she have to do stuff like that. Does she want me to tackle her to the ground and kiss her? Then it hit her. Maybe she does. “Dashie?”
“What?” Rainbow snapped. She glared up at Pinkie. Pinkie just stared at her wide eyed for a few seconds. Rainbow just further narrowed her eyes and tilted her head. Pinkie just chewed her lip nervously. Dash just rolled her eyes and tilted her head and started to take a drink, but Pinkie intercepted, softly taking Dash's bottom lip between her lips. Pinkie wanted to think her lips tasted heavenly, that it had felt electric, but all she tasted was vodka, and all she felt was stiff unmoving lips. Dash, in her drunken state, used the hand that had the cup in it to push Pinkie away. The punch spilled all over Pinkie's coat, but Pinkie wasn't focused on that. She was focused on the enraged Rainbow dash that was practically glowering at her.
The 4 ponies were still staring. Rarity had gasped. Fluttershy had hidden her head. AJ and Twilight just stared.
Dash raged at Pinkie, “What the hell? Is this a joke because it's not funny! Or is this a test? To see if I'm gay?”
Pinkie shook her head profusely, “No, no of course not!”
“Well I'm not! I'm not gay!” She continued, “I'm not gay... I'm not gay...”
Pinkie tried to comfort her by putting a hoof on her shoulder, “Okay, Dashie, I believe you”
Dash lashed out and struck Pinkie in the face with her right hoof, “DON'T FUCKING TOUCH ME! And don't call me dashie.”
Pinkie fell to the ground and all the party goers stopped and stared at Pinkie and Rainbow dash. Rainbow dash just looked around nervously. She quickly walked through the crowed that parted like the red sea. The door slammed shut.
Pinkie pushed herself up to her feet, “Dashie—I mean Rainbow Dash” She wiped some of the blood from her nose on her foreleg then ran after Dash. She didn't have to go far to find Rainbow. She was passed out near some bushes. She heard the door open and close again and a collection of hoofsteps.
Rarity was the first to speak “What on earth happened?”
“Nothing important-”
“Nuthin' important?” Applejack interrupted, “The blood dripping down your nose says otherwise!”
Pinkie ignored AJ. She draped Rainbow across her back. Her friends just stared as Pinkie walked back towards Sugar Cube Corner. All of the dancing stopped, and there were a few hushes. There was a good 4 foot radius around Pinkie and Dash. Everyone just stared at Pinkie. No doubt wondering why Pinkie would forgive and seemingly forget so quickly. Pinkie walked, not bounced, up the stairs wearing a grim face. She laid Dash in her bed and tucked her into the warm blankets. Dash instinctively snuggled into the covers. Pinkie leaned in to kiss Dash on the forehead, but the throb in her nose reminded herself of the pain of rejection. She lifted her head and sighed “Good night Rainbow Dash” There would be no more 'Dashie'. Rainbow Dash was a brave, loyal, beautiful pony. Dashie was a brave, loyal, beautiful pony that loved Pinkie Pie. Obviously, that pony never even existed. Dashie would just go stay with Madame le Fleur where they would just sit together and wait for Pinkie to lose her mind again.
Pinkie got a bag of ice for her nose and sat in the love seat with it on her face. She closed her eyes and the weight of disappointment and rejection grew heavy and Pinkie drifted into a sleep free of nightmares.
Of course without nightmares there are no more dreams.
