Chapter 10

Element flew through the sky following behind a trail of rainbows and cyan fur.

Sure, it wasn't a very fast or exhilarating flight, but more like a soft, mellow glide in the night sky. He closed his eyes and just let the wind take hold of him. He flipped upside down and put his forehooves behind his head, subconsciously creating a magical tether between him and Rainbow Dash so they wouldn't be separated. He was following her after all, and if she made any sort of turn he would be oblivious to it until she came looking for him.

He felt the tether loosen a bit, which seemed kind of odd. Unless Rainbow had slowed down to his speed it should have done nothing.

And then, as he was moon bathing, something blocked the light from the gigantic glowing orb in the sky. He opened his right eye only slightly, and just as he had thought, Rainbow Dash was flying above him. He could feel the light movement of the air on his body as she flapped her wings from above his form.

"You look relaxed." she said with a smile, "Ya thinkin' about something?"

Element's mind went to work thinking about every different thing to say to try and throw her off. All within a few measly seconds he looked her straight in the eye. That was it. "Any one ever tell you how beautiful your eyes are?"

Dash's eyes widened only slightly, showing a form of reaction, but she kept it together. "How many times have I heard that line?" she said with a cocky grin. "You're gonna have to do a lot better than that to crack me."

"Well then." Element gained a grin of his own, and surprised the cyan pegasus by grabbing hold of her body and twirled them both to where they were flying upright. Dash could feel the blood rush to her cheeks at the closeness of their bodies. Element gingerly held one of her hooves in his own and his other by her waist. "I guess I'll have to... take it up a notch." he smiled hungrily.

He began leaning forward ever so slowly, closing his eyes. Rainbow Dash, at a loss for words, began to mimic his movements. They were only about eight inches away.

Seven.

By five inches Rainbow had closed her half open eyes.

Two inches.

One inch and their lips would connect into a form of great passion. Both ponies could feel each others warm breath in the cool night air.

Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, they came together. Lips interlocked with one another, Rainbow physically relaxed into the kiss and wrapped both her hooves around Element's neck. As if she had been hoping this would happen. Until, that is, she was called out of it by the sound of her name.

"Rainbow Dash? Hello?! Equestria to Dash do you copy." Element had been calling her. She shook her head to clear out of her stupor. "You've been starring off into space for like five minutes now. You okay?"

Rainbow looked back into Element's eyes, her blush intensified by three and she was as red as a beet. "Um, uh, uuuh, yeah, sure. I'm fine." she had lost her cool for a moment. "Uh, let's go! We're almost there. Hope you're hungry." She began to fly down, heading to what looked like a small restaurant.

The both of them landed, Element's wings breaking into thousands of shards scattering in all directions. Rainbow looked on as they did, "Do your wings always do that when you land?"

"Only if I plan to stay grounded for a while. And no it does not happen when I land on clouds." he said following her inside the store.

They walked in and were greeted by one of the hosts who showed them to one of the booths. Element opened up his menu and skimmed right through it and his gaze on one thing in particular. Dash didn't even touch her menu, already knowing everything on it and what she wanted.

"May I take your order?" asked a mare clad in a waitress uniform, pen and paper in her magical hold.

"An order of cheese covered Prance Fries and a Polka-Cola light on the ice, please." both had said at the exact same time. The two looked at each other surprised.

"Okay, got it. I'll be right back with your drinks." and with that, the waitress left to help another table.

Rainbow and Element sat there in silence. Waiting for the other to say something. It was kinda awkward for the both of them, being on the same wavelength a moment ago. After waiting for about five minutes Mage spoke up, "Soooooo, was there any particular reason you wanted to go out with me tonight orrrrr............?"

"Well, I, um, don't have a reason, but, it's like, I just wanted to see you again." she stumbled trying to find her voice. "Like, after that whole eating contest, I just had to hang out with you again. I dunno."

"Just one of those times you just had to do something, right?"

"Yes. Exactly! See? You get me."

"I've been like that before. Usually if you just give the feeling what it wants it goes away. That's how I deal with most problems."

"...Ya know Mage? You're cool. And I don't say that about most ponies."

"What makes you say that?" he asked, leaning back, putting one foreleg across the top of the booth and crossing his hind leg over the other.

Dash giggled. She giggled. "Cool, funny, and smart. Twilight sure knows how to pick 'em."

"What are you talking about? I picked her."

"Heh heh, sure ya did." she said with a wink.

'Man, who knew she was so flirty. I've seen a lot of things but this actually surprises me. Things are going well on a date, and I haven't done anything to make it that way. ......Wait, hold on a sec.'

"Mage..." he said unsurely.

"Hmm?"

"You called me by my last name." he stated.

"Yeah, and?"

"Why?"

"Well saying Element constantly over and over is a bit of a mouthful. So I just use your last name cause it's shorter. That... and it's like a nickname." Dash explained.

He placed a hoof to his chin, "I guess that makes sense."

"Of course it does!" she exclaimed, "You think way too much into things. Relax a little in your life."

He thought about it.

He thought about it for a while, and soon their drinks had been delivered.

He grabbed hold of his Polka-Cola and stared into it, as if looking for an answer. Was he relaxed? Did he worry or think too much?

It didn't seem that way to him.

Then again his mind was off limits, even to Celestia herself.

"...........Time to change that." he spoke under his breath.

"Hmm?" Dash looked at him in confusion, and then to his glowing horn that encased his cranium. And she went wide eyed. "Mage.....?"

He looked up, smiling. It was the first genuine smile he had given in a long, long time. "Ya know Dash?"

She looked at him, his smile contagious. "What?"

"I think you've earned the right to hear my backstory. Just don't laugh, OK? It's kinda stupid.
