It was a cold winter's eve, and the sun had begun to set. Ponies returned to their homes as the magical lights of Ponyville dimmed. Meanwhile, a human watched through the window of a small cabin. He looked up at Cloudsdale and saw a familiar cyan pegasus flying down in the cabin's direction. A small smirk slowly grew onto Mouse's face as he stood up and lit a match before tossing it into the fireplace.
Rainbow Dash flew from Coudsdale towards the cabin near the edge of Ponyville. Snow fluttered down slowly from the sky. Rainbow landed softly as she opened the door and shook the snow off of her soft coat. Mouse peeked his head out from over the couch. Rainbow Dash smiled as she closed the door. Mouse scooted over as Rainbow Dash jumped onto the couch and laid her head down next to Mouse's lap.
Rainbow was glad to have Mouse with her. Not only did he keep up on everything while Rainbow Dash was away, he also took care of her when she was at home. Rainbow snuggled herself into the couch as the fireplace that Mouse had lit before she'd gotten home warmed her. Mouse glanced over at Rainbow, then looked outside the window. He looked up at the pitch black skies as stars decorated Luna's midnight sky.
Mouse looked over at Rainbow who'd already been lulled to sleep by the warm fires. Mouse grabbed a blanket from the closet and draped it over her. Rainbow Dash smiled lightly. Mouse walked over to the bathroom and turned on the light. He looked at himself in the mirror and sighed quietly. Mouse had dark brown curly hair with a pair of eyes that were the same color. He always wore a Batman jacket.
He shut the door and locked it before turning on the shower. He pulled off his jacket along with his shirt. He threw them to the side and got a new pair of clothes and looked at the mirror again. He remember the long scar across his chest. When Mouse came to Equestria, he didn't just simply go, "poof" and then thumph on the ground. Oh no, he came in hard. It was odd how he even survived. But even then, it was odd how he got to Equestria in the first place. The only thing that Mouse remembers was that he was on his way home to school, then he just blacked out.
After a few minutes, Mouse came out of the bathroom in a fresh pair of clothes, including his Batman jacket. He quietly shut the door and checked on Rainbow Dash. She had snuggled herself into a warm little ball as she laid on the floor closer to the fire. Mouse chuckled a bit before scooting her back a bit so she didn't burn herself.
Mouse quietly opened the front door, he looked back at Rainbow Dash to see if she didn't wake up. He pulled his hood over his head and closed the door slowly. Mouse shoved his hands into his jacket pockets and followed the trail through Ponyville. He'd been doing this ever since he came to Equestria. It was the only thing that helped him cleared his mind. It also help give him something to do when Rainbow Dash was here. But Rainbow did know that he did this frequently, and she was fine with it, only as long as he came back.
Mouse was always a strong kid, not only in brawn, but also in heart, and he didn't even need to speak to express himself. He was always there to help whenever you needed him, and sometimes, you didn't even need to ask. He would just volunteer simply by picking up where you left off before you came back. In other words, Mouse was just simply a nice kid that loved helping other people out.
Mouse never really had a set path whenever he walked, he just, walked wherever he wanted to walk. He'd always make sure to take a round trip back to the path that led him into Ponyville. When you've been living in Ponyville for the past two years without anything to do, you get creative. Sometimes Mouse went to other places, like Canterlot and The Crystal Empire. And winter was Mouse's favorite season.
Mouse saw the cabin up ahead and slowed his pace. Hearing the rusting of the trees and the howling of the wind in the night, Mouse took a deep breath with a grin. Mouse scraped his shoes on the outside rug and quietly opened the door. The fire had burnt out and the warmth the cabin once had vanished. Mouse walked around the couch and saw Rainbow slightly shivering. Mouse never liked seeing Rainbow Dash like this. He poked Rainbow Dash a few times, waking her up. Mouse saw her violet eyes glisten in the moonlight as she looked up at him. He slid his arms underneath her and let out a slight grunt as he picked her up in his arms.
Rainbow Dash felt weird in Mouse's arms, but she also felt warm and melty. She laid her head on his chest and slid her hooves around him as she closed her eyes and sighed. Mouse opened Rainbow Dash's bedroom door with his foot and laid her down on her bed. Mouse pulled the blanket over her and turned on the heater. He smiled as her warmth coursed through his body.
Mouse left her room, slowly closing the door behind him and walking back to the couch. He slumped down onto the couch and snuggled himself into his warm Batman jacket and stared up at the ceiling. The howling of the winter winds and the creaking of the cabin settling echoed through the house and his mind. Mouse closed his eyes and memories of him back on earth flooded into his mind. His mother's voice drowned out the sounds of reality as she began humming a lullaby. Mouse slowly drifted off to sleep as his mother's lullaby continued in his head.
The small town of Ponyville was quiet. A white blanket of snow covered most of the houses and trails. Everypony slept warm and snug in their homes as the snow continued to fall. Meanwhile, Mouse stood on the front porch of the cabin with a mug of coffee in his hand. He took another sip and licked his lips to get every drop of his hazelnut deliciousness. Mouse heard the cabin door open from behind him. He turned to see Rainbow Dash, smiling as she held her blanket tightly around her body.
"Where'd you get that?" She asked.
Mouse glanced down at his coffee, then back to Rainbow Dash. He let out a sigh and walked inside placing his mug on the table near the door. He poured Rainbow Dash her own cup of coffee and handed it to her. She let out a sigh as she took a sip. Her mane was disheveled and messy, and her eyes were scrunched as they adjusted to the sunlight. Mouse had been living with her for two years, and he hated seeing Rainbow like this, he didn't care if it was only morning. Mouse went into the bathroom and got her brush, and like a robot, he began to brush her mane.
"Mouse, what're you doing?" Rainbow asked.
He didn't reply, he only continued to brush. With each stroke of the brush, Mouse ran his fingers through her soft silky mane to see if he'd gotten every single knot out. Rainbow Dash continued to sip on her coffee as Mouse brushed her mane. Rainbow placed her cup down on the table as Mouse finished. He placed the brush down on the table and grabbed his coffee. He pulled a chair near Rainbow and sat down.
Suddenly, there was a knock at the door. Mouse placed his cup down to stand up but Rainbow Dash was already up and at the door. She looked at Mouse with a face that said, "You've done enough, now sit down." Mouse slowly lowered himself back into his seat and continued with his coffee. Rainbow opened the door to find Fluttershy shivering slightly on the porch.
"Fluttershy? Come in it must be freezing!" Rainbow said as she opened the door.
At the sound of Fluttershy's name, Mouse zipped into the bedroom and came back out with a blanket in his arms. Fluttershy smiled at Mouse's quick concern and allowed him to wrap the blanket around her.
"Thank you Mouse, but I'm fine really." Fluttershy said.
The sound of Fluttershy's soft and calm voice always soothed Mouse. He'd never head such an angelic voice in his life, other than his mother's. Fluttershy laid down on the couch with Rainbow Dash next to her. Mouse tossed a log into the fireplace and lit a match and threw it in with the log.
"My, I've never been given so much kindness before, thank you both." Fluttershy sighed.
"Nah, just repaying all the favors you've given us." Rainbow replied. "Anyways, what're you doing here?"
"Oh nothing, just visiting." Fluttershy answered, "But I do have one request actually."
"What is it?" Rainbow asked.
"Pinke asked me for her help in baking some pies, and I don't want to leave Angel all alone. I was just coming to ask if you two could look after him for me while I'm gone?"
"Sure Flutters, I'm sure Mouse'll take good care of him." Rainbow heard Mouse turn in his chair.
"I-I mean we." Rainbow corrected herself with a sheepish grin.
"Oh thank you both so much." Fluttershy said. "Well, I guess I'll be going then, I'll be back with Angel as soon as I can."
"Nah, take your time, there's no rush here." Rainbow replied.
Fluttershy waved goodbye as she closed the door behind her. Rainbow turned to see Mouse pulling his jacket sleeve over his arm. He zipped up his jacket and walked towards the door.
"Be back soon..." Rainbow said softly.
Mouse's hand froze on the door knob. He slowly turned and looked into Rainbow's deep violet eyes. They both stood there, staring at each other for a few moments before Rainbow Dash broke the silence.
"I-I mean to w-watch Angel, y'know I'm not good with animals." Rainbow stammered.
Mouse nodded slowly before straightening up and opening the door. He rushed outside, closing the door behind him. Rainbow Dash heard his footsteps getting farther from the cabin. Her face burned with embarrassment but her heart throbbed against her chest. She shook her head and sat down in Mouse's chair.
He's got this strange.. vibe to him. I feel so, calm whenever he's around. But at the same time, I feel weird... Why though? Rainbow thought to herself.
Rainbow looked over at Mouse's cup and saw that was half empty. She stared at it for a minute before taking a quick sip out of it before trotting over to the couch.
With his hood pulled fully over his face, you'd think Mouse would looked like something from Assassin's Creed, only a bit over-dramatized. He sat on a bench near a mailbox. His arms laid lazily on his sides as he sat there staring at the ground, daydreaming about a lot of stuff. All of a sudden, Mouse felt something warm on his head. He felt around and felt something soft, and was wearing some sort of clothing, and it was also giggling the more he felt around.
"Hi Mouse!" Ditzy cheered as she fluttered to his side.
Mouse smiled brightly and pulled his hood off of his head. They both threw each other's arms around each other in a tight hug. Ditzy Doo was one of Mouse's favorite ponies. She was weird, crazy, but also misunderstood by most ponies for the simple fact that her eyes were a bit crazy. But Mouse didn't judge people for looks, in fact, he never really judged people at all.
"Hee-hee, your hands feel so weird when you're moving them all around my body." Ditzy said with a blush.
Mouse had a blush of his own as the warmth of Ditzy's body ran through his hands. Ditzy giggled more and reached inside her bag and pulled out an envelope and put on Mouse's lap. She gave him another hug and flared her wings out to take off.
"Bye-bye!" She shouted before shooting off into the sky.
Confused, Mouse looked down at the envelope in his lap. He picked it up and saw that it was from Roseluck. Roseluck was another friend of Mouse's. He opened the letter and saw that it was an invitation to a celebration. As much as Mouse wanted to go, he still had a bunny and a mare to look after. He flipped the paper over and scribbled something down quickly and put in the envelope before sealing it. He put it in the drop box and ran back to the cabin.
