Dragon Tales
Chapter 6: Frozen Birthdays
Previous ChapterNext ChapterSivyer grunted as he pulled seven carts full of apples into town. Next to him was Big Mac, guarding the carts from any thieves, though who wanted to get close to the dragon, no pony knew. It was Frost's birthday, and only another month until the summer festival. Talks with Apple Jack were slowly withering away too after his talk with her.
Big Mac tried to help the splitting friendship between them, and tried to act as the middle pony. However he didn't help much. He was also getting used to the dragon living in their barn until his own home was finished. Most of the Apple Family was working on it now. Such a large project required so many ponies working on it. Seeing how they had to double the size of everything that'd be in a normal home. The door way was ten feet tall, not the regulars six or seven, and they were nearly done with the first floor. It was a two story house with nearly 5,000 square feet of space. It was on the other side of the orchard where new trees were going to be planted next year, but this was a smaller task.
Sivyer stopped, and let out a sigh of relief. He'd worked hard for days on end to gain a few extra bits to buy Frost a gift for her birthday. Infront of him was Apple Jack, selling some apples.
"Where do these go?" He asked.
Apple Jack pointed across town to large building that looked like a giant cone. "That building there is the brewery. Take'm there, then come back and get the bits. You've earned them."
"Alright, easy enough!" Sivyer said with a determined nod. "Big Mac, comming?"
"Nah, I need to get Apple Bloom from School. You want me to get Frost too?" He offered.
"That'd be nice, thanks Big."
"Think nothin' of it Sivyer." The large red stallion said as he walked away.
Sivyer looked ahead at the building. It looked like it was roughly a ten minute walk if he really pushed himself like he did while he tried to get to Ponyville. He inhaled and started to push forward. He had to hurry, Frost was going to want to see him, as nd there was a bad feeling in his chest. The father he was away from her, the more he worried about her safety.
He was really tired, the carts of apples must of weighed more than he did, but he kept moving. Then he flet his load get lighter. Looking back he saw a few unicorns lift a couple dozen crates into the air. They looked dead in his eyes, and started to walk along side him.
"Looks like you need a little help there." A unicorn said. "These are my brothers."
Sivyer smiled, and gave a nod. "We need to get to the brewery. You think you can do that?"
"Sure we can!" Another hoof pumped. "Just watch us!"
There were six, maybe seven unicorns around him, he didn't count, but two carts were completely empty now, which made the job easier. He wasn't pushing himself now that the load was lighter. Ten minutes turned to five, then to two, and soon they arrived with the apples.
"So, where are the ponies who work here?"
"Were them." An old unicorn said walking infront of him. "Big Mac said you needed some help. He's a good friend of ours, and a good friend to him, is a friend to us."
"Tell me what is your name?" Sivyer asked.
"I'm Glugs, these are my sons: Stiller, Crush, Burner, Chester, and Carver."
"Thank you for helping me, today is my daughter's birthday." He explained.
"Well, tell her Old Stallion Glugs said happy birthday." The old stallion gave a heart felt smile. "Have a good day draco."
"My name is Sivyer, not draco."
"You're a dragon right?" He asked, and Sivyer replied with a slight nod. "Then draco is what Imma call you."
A unicorn came up, it was Burner. "He sometimes calls us corns so don't get too mad. Just roll with it bud." He turned to his brothers. "Come on guys lets get to work unloading and preparing for the summer festival."
Sivyer helped unload the crates of apples, and was handed a small bag of bits from Glugs. He didn't explain why, but Sivyer accepted the hundred, and toted the carts back to Sweet Apple Acres. Along his way he met up with Apple Jack who handed him a thousand bits.
"Yer pay for the work. We've been getting good business because of you."
"Thank you Apple Jack, but why this much?"
Apple Jack smiled. "There's a reason why I haven't been talk'n to ya as of late, and I want you to meet me at the barn after dinner. Make sure you've got your cart full of stuff with you okay?"
"Sure, but why?"
"I''ve got a gift of my own, and a word to keep." She tipped her hat. "Frost been talking about this crazy device that helps pegasi fly, since she can't fly for more than a minute or two. It costs a thousand, so say it's my gift to her."
"Apple Jack, we're still friends right?" Sivyer asked. "I know things been rough between us after my request."
"That's in the past Sivyer, but I haven't forgotten about it. I like to stay friends, and you've been like family as of late. You help with the farm everyday, even on the weekends on your breaks, you still help. You've shown how much you wish to change yer life." Apple Jack smiled. "Now I'd go on if I were you. I think Frost is want'n to see her father."
"Thank you Apple Jack."
"Sivyer, you can call me AJ. All my best friends do."
He nodded, and continued to pull the carts. Along the way he had a smile that stretched ear to ear. He was happy that Apple Jack was his friend once more, and that she still remembered his request to be his master despite that. Apple Jack even called him family, which made his large slow beating heart to flutter like a humming bird. His fire grew inside, and he placed his claw over his heart.
"Hurry Luna!" Celestia called from outside. "We're going to be late if you don't hurry!"
Luna held a suitcase in her mouth as she ran out the doors to the garden. "Surry sithter!" She said with her mouth full. She placed it on the chariot. "I had to find my gift!"
"Quickly my guards! To Ponyville!"
"Yes Princess Celestia!" The guards shouted at the swiftly bolted into the air, heading to Ponyville.
Sivyer smiled as he strapped himself to the cart. Behind him, singing to herself, Frost looked about. He turned his head to see what she was doing, then pulled the cart out of the barn. There he waited for Apple Jack to walk up to him.
He was still happy that Apple Jack was still his friend, and that Big Mac no longer feared him like he did when they first met. He even had new friends that helped him pull his load to the brewery, who happened to be the ones who ran it. Sivyer was gaining friends one-by-one, and with each one, his internal flame grew larger. He wondered if this was the magic that his former master told him about.
He continued to wait as the sun began to descend, and that's when he started to frown. Was the mare coming? He thought to himself, and wondered if it was all a trick. To trick a dragon wasn't unheard of, and done to gain their knowledge. Was this what the mare was after? His knowledge of anything had to be shared. It was a rule dragons followed.
Right as he was about to unhook himself from the cart, Apple Jack was seen running towards him. He began to smile again as the mare approached.
"Sorry....I'm late....." She breathed heavily. "Ran into Celestia and Luna. They're waiting at the place were we're going."
"The princesses?" He asked. "Oh, right they said they would be coming for her birthday."
Apple Jack started to walk ahead, and Sivyer followed close behind her. As they walked, Sivyer began to hate himself for thinking Apple Jack lied to him. She was his first friend in Ponyville after all.
They began to walk in between the trees until they reached a large building. Sivyer's jaw began to drop as they closed in on the building. It was very tall with two stories, tons of windows, there was a good looking roof, and all around looked very new. His heart began to flutter again, and looked at Apple Jack.
"This is it? Our new home?" He asked, a tear of joy sliding down his face.
"Sure is, happy birthday Frost, and thanks for helping out on the farm Sivyer." Apple Jack stepped up onto the deck infront of the house. She opened the door and poked her head in, and after saying something, a large group of ponies began to walk out. "Sivyer, say hello to the Apple Family, and the princesses!"
Celestia and Luna walked up to Sivyer, and placed two gifts infront of him. "These are for your daughter." Celestia said, and looked at Frost. "Happy birthday little one."
"Thank you princess Tia!" Frost said. She flew over to the princesses, and hugged them both. They gave a quick laugh, then looked back towards Sivyer.
"This is your first real home, isn't it?" Celestia asked calmly.
"It is..." He began to sob softly. "Zu'u los kog wah lost hi pah ol dii fahdon."(I am blessed to have you all as my friends)
Celestia nuzzled him. "Zu'u los frund hi los unaz, nuz mu praag wah tinvaak atruk ko jormaar. Nii los do hin mon."(I am glad you are happy, but we need to discuss something in private. It is about your daughter.) She whispered into his ear.
Sivyer nodded. "Zu'u fen fun hi nid Zu'u lorot fend ni kos fahral, Celestia." He replied. (I will tell you nothing that should not be answered.)
"Zu'u mindoraan dii fahdon, nuz hi fen fun zey das." Sivyer unhooked himself, and carried Frost on his back. Celestia followed close behind him.
Once the party began to settle down, Celestia and Sivyer found themselves alone out on the back porch.
"I saw that a spell is casted on her. Actually, several of them are." She said as papers began to appear. "And I know these are forged adoption papers."
"Then I am found out." Sister sighed. "Are you going to take her?"
"I see no reason to Sivyer. You've shown that you care about her safety to the point of starving yourself for weeks." Celestia said. "So no, she stays with you, but as long as you answer my question. Why are her memories blocked by ten different unicorns, and her physical appearance hidden?"
"So she can be happy." He replied. "I will tell you no more than that princess."
"Then why?"
"Because five months ago, she was crying everyday." He explained. "I could not stand to see such misery."
Celestia sat back in her chair, looking at the rising moon. "Tell me about my father." She said.
"He was kind, unlike any pony I knew." Sivyer said. "He treated me well as a hatching, then didn't see me until I was two hundred years old. When dragons were attacking Equestria. He banished every dragon but me, saying there was a spark of true destiny in my eyes. He told me he would be my master, and gave me wisdom in return."
"I thought so, what else?"
"Then we fought many battles against creatures of chaos, winning every time." Sivyer said as Frost stepped outside, and jumped on top of his stomach. "And did you enjoy your cake Frost?"
"I did, but why did you leave the party?" She asked.
"To talk peacefully to Celestia." He replied. "It's getting late, why don't you go wash up, and find your room? I'll be there to tuck you in."
"Awwww...." Frost moped. Good night princess."
"Safe dreams Frost." Celestia smiled.
Frost ran back inside, and Sivyer stood up. "I thank you for visiting Celestia, but it is time for you to leave with your sister."
Celestia nodded. "As you wish." She bowed, and flew away. Luna must of seen her, and joined her.
Sivyer watched as they flew back towards Ponyville. He was somewhat glad they had left him. Then once they were out of sight, he walked inside. He told a story to Frost, and found his room with a large bed in the center of it. He laid down on it and closed his eyes. Suddenly an image of his brother flashed in his eyes. He looked out the window in fear.
"Oh no..."
