Chapter 7: The Drinking Game

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

It's been a rough month for Sivyer. Lately ponies who sold him their goods, refused to even look at him. Some whispered behind his back, and others avoided him. He could also tell Fluttershy had stopped seeing him for his weakly checkups. She saw him because he still had problems with his left arm. Something hadn't healed right, and caused pain when he stepped in it wrong.

He moved from his bed, and looked at the rising sun. It was the Summer Sun Celebration Festival today and he was getting ready for his chance to have a master once again. He felt like he had no true purpose other than to protect her, and with a master he had something to live for. Something inside of him screamed at him for his dumb request, but the other side begged, if not pleaded for a master.

He yawned, and felt his wing was caught on something. Sivyer rubbed his eye, and looked at what kept his wing in place. It was Frost, once again sleeping in his bed. It'd been a month in their new home, and she had yet to once sleep alone in her room. He knew she was scared, and he was too.

He nudged her carefully on of his wing, and exited the room. It was another night of nightmares of his past, and they got worse. For some reason, his memories of his past flooded back into existence. Most of which were the years he spent as a slave to his father and older brother.

He heard a knock at his door once he got down stairs. He looked and saw it was Twilight through a small hole. Sivyer thought for a moment whether or not to answer it, and find something to eat. Without much thought he opened it, and Twilight walked in.

"Yes?" He asked.

"We need to talk."

"It's too early to talk about Frost." Sivyer yawned once again.

"I'm not hear to talk about her, I'm here to talk to you." She said, her voice sounded rough.

"Then what is it you wish to know Twilight Sparkle?" Sivyer asked.

Twilight stepped back, mostly because she wasn't expecting him to be forward. "Well, I-I want to know where you came from! If you're from across the Celestial Sea, then you must've lived in the mountains close by!"

"I did, why?" Sivyer asked becoming interested where this was going. "What about my home?"

"Frost came from there right?"

"Indeed Twilight, but where are you going with this?"

"I read about what her kind did to the threstrals there." Twilight stepped closer. "Those who have lighter mane colors were left in the wild. Is that when you found her?"

Sivyer grabbed a few apples and threw them in his mouth. "Yes," He said chewing. "I found her weak, scared, and alone. I knew I had to leave my home to keep her safe in my claws, and I don't like talking about it, so stop."

"That's all I wanted to know..."Twilight sighed. "How come you did tell me before?"

"It was a lie Twilight!" Sivyer slammed his hand on the table, snapping it in half. "LEAVE MY ABODE AT ONCE!"

Twilight was sent flying into a wall from the shear force of his voice. She stood up. "But-!"

"FUS-RO-DAH!" He shouted, sending Twilight violently through the rest of the wall. "LEAVE ME BE!" His voice echoed as Twilight struggled to regain her ability to fly. She cought herself before she crashed into a cart full of cabbages.

Twilight had then realized how powerful his voice was. She was on the other side of Ponyville, and a good twenty minute walk back to his home. She slumped over with a heavy sigh.

"If he was lying, then how exactly did he meet her?"

"Who met who?" A pony asked.

Twilight turned around, and saw Cadence. "Princess Cadence!!!" Twilight wrapped her hooves around her sister-in-law.

"I haven't seen anypony important today besides you Twilight." Cadence laughed. "Now what where you talking about?"

"There's this dragon-"

"Sivyer?" She asked.

"Yeah, how'd you know about him?"

"Celestia told me about him." Cadence said. "Sounds like a good dragon."

Twilight shrugged. "I don't know about that...he just shouted three words, and the next thing I know, I'm on the other side of Ponyville!"

Cadence giggled. "I suppose you made him mad then." She looked ahead. "I'm going to be in town for a few days while the festival is going on. Maybe we should catch up later, because I need to meet the other princesses to prepare for the drinking contest."

Twilight raised an eyebrow. "You drink?"

"It makes things fun..." The mare blushed. "Your brother is amazing when he's drunk."

Twilight shivered. "Ugh....didn't need to know that."

"Hey, you asked." Cadence laughed. "You want to join us?"

"Drinking?" Twilight asked. "I'm only nineteen, I can't drink."

Cadence bent down. "You're a princess Twilight, so be princess Twilight. Enjoy your new opportunity to get hammered!"

"I don't know..." Twilight thought. "You sure it'll be okay?"

"If anything happens, I'll take the blame." Cadence smiled. "Now lets hurry! It starts in a hour."

Sivyer was chanting as the wall slowly rebuilt itself. He'd already used much of his power sending Twilight flying, and he had just enough to repair a small hole in the wall. Once the wall was finished he grabbed a few more apples, and ate them all in a single bite. Slowly his energy started to return. What were in these apples that made his energy replenish so quickly? He didn't care much about them, but they did taste good.

"Dad? Why did you shout again?" Frost asked, walking slowly down the stairs. "Somepony make you mad again?"

"Twilight came again." Sivyer sighed. "Her questions make me mad..."

Frost tugged on his wing. "You need to stop dad. Ponies already don't like you."

Sivyer Sat down, and picked Frost up. "My little one, I do not care if they love me or hate me. All I care about is you!" He kissed her on her cheek. "Understand?"

"You should though...You work so hard, what if you got hurt? If everypony hated you, no pony would come to save you."

Sivyer had a flash of his brother's face. He shook it away with a smile. "I'm strong! Nothing can hurt me!" He hugged Frost, and rested her back down on the floor. "Let's get you some apples-"

"No more apples!" Frost said. "I want meat! I haven't had any meat in weeks!"

Sivyer sighed. "I shall ask Apple Jack if she can spare a chicken for you, but eat your apples anyways."

"Okay..." Frost sat down, and started to eat.

"Frost, would you hate me if...I changed who you are? Like you would forget your friends, and everyone you knew? All to make you happy?"

Frost thought for a moment. "Why do you ask?"

"Just answer my question."

"I'll be a little mad, but only if I found out." Frost gave a smile. "So what brings that up?"

"I...I think I should tell you from the beginning." Sivyer sighed as he drew closer. "I erased your memories. The few months you've known me, you knew me years before..."

"Stop..." Frost said. "Don't tell me anything else...I like my life now, who cares about my past."

"I DO!" Sivyer yelled. "You suffered your who life, until six months ago."

"I don't want to know dad. If I don't remember the pain, then I never felt it." Frost looked at her father, and saw he was shaking. "What's wrong?"

Sivyer shook his head. "Nothing, but we should get going. We don't want to miss the festival do we?"

Frost smiled with a nod. "Yeah, lets go!"

"So when do you suppose Sivyer will be here?" Twilight asked Celestia. "For some reason AJ needs to buy his food for him."

Celestia frowned. "Why is that?"

Twilight shrugged. "Heck if I know." Twilight stared into a glass of wine. She took a sip of it, and her face turned sour. "Ew..."

Luna giggled. "You'll learn to love the taste the more you have it." She said. "Sister, what exactly do you know who we are facing?"

Celestia thought for a few minutes, occasionally taking a sip of her wine. "This year we're facing Vinyl Scratch, Berry Punch, and Big Macintosh on team Ponyville. Our team consists of us alicorns, known as team Demigods, minus Twilight. Finally there's Apple Jack and Sivyer, but they are facing each other." Celestia nodded. "If Cadence can go first and knock out Berry Punch, I'll be next and out drink Big Macintosh, then you Luna will face Vinyl Scratch, for your rematch."

Luna pumped her hoof, then threw it up in the air. "I SHALL NOT LOSE THIS TIME!!!" Luna yelled in her Canterlot voice. Everypony turned their gaze at the princess of the night. "What?!" She asked, then the ponies continued to walk around, talking to one another.

"Princess TIA!" Frost flew into Celestia, knocking her glass out of her grip, and broke when it hit the ground.

"Sister! Tis alcohol abuse! Have shame!"

Celestia laughed as she sat up with Frost sitting in her lap. "Hello little one!" She smiled. "And where is your father?"

"He told me to find you while he looks for Apple Jack!" She nodded. "Hello princess Luna, princess Twilight!" She looked at Twilight for a moment. "You made dad angry, you should say sorry."

Twilight frowned. "He shouted me across town over a few questions...he should say sorry." Twilight grunted. "Anyhoof...The contest is going to be starting soon. So what'll we do while we wait?"

"Sit back, and sober up." Celestia said, and it was as if the sun had moved right above the princess. She smiled, and sighed. "It's the summer after all. We should relax."

Luna nodded in agreement. "Yes, relaxing is good. No work for us today." Luna sat back in her chair. "Twilight, what questions did you ask him?"

"How he met Frost, but he told me a lie. Then told me he was lying, then the next thing I know, I'm flying through the air with little control!"

"What exactly did he do to send you flying?" Cadence asked.

"He said, 'Fus-Ro-Dah'." Twilight explained. "I don't get how three words can send me flying..."

"It's called Thuum..." A low voice said. Twilight turned, and saw Sivyer with Apple Jack next to him. "Thuum means shout. Fus means unrelenting force, a basic shout with power behind it's wording. Ro, means balance, which gave it clarity, allowing my voice to travel forwards. Dah, means push, which made you fly through my wall. I'm sorry if I hurt you." The dragon bowed towards Twilight.

Twilight didn't understand, but she had to say something. "Just don't do it again."

"I make no promises, but I will try to hold my anger in more." Sivyer looked to Celestia. "And how are you this nice sunny day princess?"

Celestia shrugged. "I'm fine, and you?"

"I've been better, haven't had much sleep as of late."

"Because of that dragon you see?" Luna asked.

"How did you know?"

"Tis my duty to protect dreams, and help those with nightmares." Luna said. "That dragon, who is it?"

"My brother..."

Celestia smiled. "You have a brother?" She asked. "What is his name."

"Sivyar, said like Siv-y-are." Sivyer said.

Apple Jack tilted her head. "Isn't that the name you nearly chocked me over?" She asked.

"Yes, and I am still sorry for that." He said.

A large bell rang over the town from the townhall, and Celestia shot up like a bullet. She picked up Luna and Cadence.

"Ah! Let me go!" Luna said struggling to get out of her sister's magical hold.

"TIME TO DRINK!" Celestia began to run through the ponies. Twilight facehoofed, and followed slowly behind.

"This is going to be a fun time..." She said sarcastically.

Sivyer looked down to Apple Jack. "Are you ready?"

Apple Jack tipped her hat. "I've been ready!"

He smiled. "That is great!"

They walked to the town hall as they placed over fifty barrels of extra hard cider around the first floor in a large circle. Glugs was standing at a podium, preparing to explain the rules, and objectives. For teams Demigods, and Ponyville they actually had to play games while they drank. However Apple Jack and Sivyer had to wait until their turn was over. They were drinking for a whole other reason, not to have fun, there was something at stake. For them, if Sivyer won, Apple Jack would be his master, of he lost, he was no longer allowed to ask for a master.

The first contest was Big Mac versus Celestia, both had a smug look on their faces, and Glugs tapped on the mic.

"Before we start, I would like to say a few words to this lovely town that we all share, and live in. From Nightmare Moon, the Trixie events, to having a bucking dragon living in our town, all I can say is that is's changed a lot." He waited for a moment. "Today, like all the other years we've spent drinking either our sorrows away, or parties, we are here to thank princess Celestia for giving us wonderful weather year around. Giving us a sun to tell the time while the earth ponies work to bring us the food we need to survive, and more. Before we begin I will explain the rules. If you break the following you alone will be disqualified; cheating, no drinking, throwing up, and spilling even a single drop of this lovely hard cider we worked hard making. The winner will be announced when all fifty mugs are cleared. Do you understand the rules?"

"I do; Eee'yup!" They said.

"Then, when I count down from three you start." His horn lit up, and the number three appeared like a giant hologram. "3....2....1....START!"

Almost instantly they started to drink. Celestia was not far behind Big Mac, taking her time as the stallion drowned himself in the cider. She watched as she drank a mug behind him, finishing her's when he picked up another. They were a quarter of the way through when Big Mac started to slow down, but Celestia kept her pace. Half way, and both of them were seen to drastically slow down. Their faces were flush red, even with Big Mac's dark red coat, a hit of a lighter red was seen. Everypony cheered them on, boosting their moral, which promptly sped them up. It was down to the last five cups when the sun itself started to shake. Luna began laughing when she used her own magic to keep it in place.

Three cups...two cups...last cup, and Big Mac was ready to fall over. Celestia tried to sit still, but her body felt hot. She tried to pour the last cup on her, but remembered the rules, she gave a sigh as she drank the last cup. She fell over backwards throwing her hooves into the air.

"WooOoo -hic- hooO!" She said. "Did I -hic- win?"

Glugs walked up to Celestia, and held her hoof upwards as the princess lay on the ground. "Our winner for the first round goes to Celestia!"

Big Mac stumbled off stage with some help of Burner, and Carver so he wouldn't fall down the steps and hurt something. Everypony watched as Celestia stood up, her legs wobbled, but she kept herself standing.

"I princess Celestia con -hic- gradualte myself on my -hic- victory!" She fell over again, this time passing out.

Twilight facehoofed. "You want me to take her to my house princess Luna?"

"Please do Twilight, and wake her up to give her some water."

"Alright..." Twilight sighed as she stood up. Celestia was teleported next to her, and Twilight picked her up with her magic. "Tell me who wins next round."

Luna pumped her hoof. "It shall be I who wins this Twilight Sparkle!" Luna said jumping over to the stage. "We shall start the next round!"

Glugs nodded. "Alright then, princess Luna has started the next round! Princess Cadence, and Berry Punch, please walk up the steps."

Princess Cadence whipped her tail as she flew up to the table where already the mugs were being filled. "I'm ready!"

Berry Punch laughed as she walked up the steps. "I won't go down so easy like Big Mac princess."

"Good, because I like a good challenge."

They crossed hooves as Glugs walked up to them. "This game is different from the last. Each time you finish a mug you must spin around six times. There are twenty-five mugs of a darker blend of cider. To complete this challenge you must drink all or out drink your opponent. The rules are same as before. Are you ready?"

"Always; may the dark drinker be by my side!"

"On my count!" Glugs made the numbers appear again. "3...2...1....GO!"

Princess Cadence followed the same strategy princess Celestia did, but kept up with Berry Punch. They drank, spun, drank more, spun more. Already everypony could tell halfway that both ponies looked rather sickened. Princess Cadence began to look green, but to everypony's surpise, she swollowed what was coming up. Ponies around made sounds of disgust, but some also cheered harder for the princess. When it came down to the final mug, Glugs began to approach the challengers. He watched as Cadence was neck-and-neck with one of Ponyville's best drinkers. However as princess Cadence was spinning she wasn't able to keep in her vomit, and ran to a trashcan. Glugs raised Berry Punch's hoof into the air, and ponies began to shout her name.

"BERRY PUNCH! BERRY PUNCH!"

"Berry Punch is this year's second round winner!" Glugs said. "They were about to tie too!"

Princess Cadence looked at Berry Punch. "Good...game...." She said, sounding out of breath, and her body shook.

"I'll get her!" A voice called from the crowd.

Princess Cadence looked over and saw Shining Armor walking up the steps. "I...what are you doing here?"

"To cheer on my wife." He smiled. "You done did good."

"So you aren't mad at me for doing something as stupid as this?"

"Nah, I was going to join until I heard about you were in the contest." He picked Cadence up with his magic. "How about we go to a hotel so you can rest?"

"Th-thanks Shining..."

Once they were out of site Glugs began to smile as he blew into the mic, catching the town's attention. He waited for everypony to settle down, and still kept a smile on his face.

"For our final round, there is something bigger at stakes." He picked up a large trophy from under the podium, and placed it next to him. "This is a trophy made of solid gold, and is seen as a reminder to those who see it with the winner that they've beaten somepony of near equal willpower. Today, we have a four pony free-for-all. Our contestants are Apple Jack, the mighty dragon Sivyer, Princess Luna, and our last years champion Vinyl Scratch!" Ponies cheered wildly for nearly two minutes as moral increased. "Now, the championship is just a smaller prize this year, and this year alone." He said at last. "The winner will not only gain this sold gold trophy, but if Apple Jack out drinks Sivyer, she will not become his master. As substitute to Princess Luna and Vinyl, they will win a years supply of our hardest cider!"

Apple Jack looked at Sivyer. "You still want to go through with this?"

Sivyer nodded. "Yes, but I will not go down easy."

"Ah know...you're a dragon after all." She said.

"Are you four ready?" Glugs asked.

"I am; Let's get this party started; Ah am!" Glugs looked at Sivyer.

"You going to do that trick-"

"RRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAOOOOOOOORRRRRRRR!!!!!!!" Sivyer exhaled a stream of fire out of his mouth towards the sky. As it pillared upwards it split apart into five different points. Each point connected creating a star. Ponies around watched in awe.

Glugs stood back and watched as Sivyer stopped. It looked as though lava was dripping out of his mouth as it burned the floor under them.

"Right..." He finally said. "I'm ready now."

Vinyl was banging her head with a big smile. "You NEED to come to my next rave!" She pointed at Sivyer.

With that the drinking contest started after the rules were repeated. Vinyl nearly inhaled each drink, while Luna followed her own way. She picked up her mugs with her magic, and roared them around, each time one was over hear head she tipped the mug, pouring the cider down her throat. Apple Jack had two mugs, taking turns pouring the left, then the right, and left again. Sivyer grabbed an entire barrel, and began drinking from it.

About a half hour in, Luna was still at it, while Vinyl began to look sick. She smiled at Vinyl, and inhaled her drink, then slammed the mug on the table. A smug look was across the princess's face, then it was replaced with a sickened one. At the same time Vinyl and princess Luna turned around to their respective trash cans and threw up.

"Tie!" Glugs said easing their hooves into the air.

Apple Jack looked at Sivyer, and saw he wasn't doing as well as she though he would. He was on his seventh barrel, an she herself had emptied two of her own. Then she started to think, and realized how much he was willing to go, just so she would be his master. Drinking until he couldn't drink anymore.

An hour after the contest started, Apple Jack stood up, and held out her hoof. She couldn't take it anymore, and neither could Sivyer. He looked up at her.

"Do you forfeit?" Glugs asked.

Apple Jack nodded. "Ah give...Sivyer, stop drinking."

Sivyer slammed his hands into the table snapping it in half. "Yes...master." He bowed.

"Call me AJ, not that master bullshit." Apple Jack smiled.

Sivyer raised Apple Jack into the air. "Thank you." He held her close, and placed her hoof on his heart. "Repeat after me. I have bound you to my word as master."

"I have bound you to my word as master,"

A flash of light beamed from the sky, and into Sivyer's head. Apple Jack was dropped to the ground, and Sivyer fell down the stairs backwards. Before long she had passed out.

"We....are....one..." Sivyer's voice echoed in her head.
