First Game: Part 1/4

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

As the coach trotted over to the amazed teammates, he looked out on the 400ft field. The furthest hit Scootaloo ever got was 326ft at best. "Alright everypony, listen up for the line-up!" All the ponies stopped and stared at the coach and his board. As he read the line-up name by name, he displayed positions, which received some grunts and slight cheers.

This is the line-up:

  1. Second Base: Sweetie Belle
  2. Center Field: Speedster
  3. Pitcher: Golden Bullet
  4. Right Field: Storm Fortis
  5. Catcher: Scootaloo
  6. Left Field: Sulfer
  7. Third Base: Rumble
  8. First Base: Apple Bloom
  9. Shortstop: Button Mash

Golden Bullet trotted out to the mound as a cheer from a side of the stadium erupted. He watched as the players ran to their positions. Scootaloo got behind the plate and gulped as she looked in the eyes of Golden Bullet. Golden went into his windup, lifted his hoof, and delivered. Scootaloo caught the ball and threw it back. Golden Bullet looked back at the huge scoreboard, which displayed the line-up, positions, who was batting at the time, the count, how many outs, wind pressure, type of pitch, and pitch speed. The board read an 85 mile per hour fastball. Golden smirked as he could imagine the other team's faces, but when he turned to see them, he saw that they were all pumped up and ready to hit.

After warm-ups, the first batter stepped up, he had a confident look in his eye. Golden smirked as he planned to change that. He got into a windup, lifted his hoof, and delivered. The batter stepped early and, much to everypony's surprise, hit a deep line drive. Speed raced back towards the wall, but Golden felt cold as he watched him slow down. The umpony called it, a homerun, the first pitch of the championships, was a homerun. This continued until they got three outs in a row at the 6th, 7th, and 8th batters. The score was 14-0.

"Apple Bloom! You're going in for Golden Bullet! Golden, go to first next inning." Golden grunted and proceed to his seat, he heard somepony sit next to him.

"Y'all ok?" He turned to see a smiling Apple Bloom next to him.

"Oh sure I'm fine, I just cost us the whole damn game!" He said in sarcasm. He smiled gently as he felt her lips against his cheek.

"Better?"

"A little." He replied. He looked up to see Sweetie Belle get walked and trot down to first base. He stood up and proceeded to his bag, he pulled out his bat and helmet, and stood over in the on-deck circle.

Speedster felt nerves as he stepped up to bat, the crowd wasn't helping. He looked at first base at Sweetie Belle, after she had earned her 100th walk this year. He signed and stepped up to bat. He watched as the pitcher shook his head twice, and then nod once. He was confused, but got back on track, obviously a change-up. He stepped in, but what happened next surprised him, a fastball inside was a called strike. He stood out of the box and thought a minute. "So, when he does those signs, it means a fastball." He noted that and stepped back in. The pitched shook his head twice and nodded once at the catcher again. He got ready, stepped, and fired. Speedster swung his bat as hard as he could and closed his eyes. He heard a popping sound and opened his eyes again, only to see him sitting on the ground. He heard a laugh from the catcher and words of encouragement from his dugout as he got back up. He looked at the board and saw it read, change-up 53 miles per hour. He gulped and stepped back into the plate. The next pitch came and, again, he swung and missed for strike three. Sweetie Belle had stolen second and was in scoring position. He passed Golden Bullet on his way back to the bench, who patted his back, and he sat down on the wooden bench.

The next three batters hits were singles, even Scootaloo's. The bases were loaded and the run had scored, Storm Fortis had received the RBI. Golden Bullet watched from third as Sulfer stepped in. He had a wooden bat and was very confident. He would laugh if Silver struck out in three pitches, that would show him not to steal his girlfriend. The pitcher delivered and it was a really high, as in over the catcher high, fastball. Somehow, as the ball reached the plate, Sulfer jumped up, and smashed the ball. It flew deep into Center Field, and eventually, over the wall. Sulfer, instead of striking out, had hit a grand slam. The score was now 14-5.

Sulfer was greeted by thousands of deafening cheers as he crossed home plate. Golden Bullet could even make out a fan shouting, "That's number 32 of the season!" 32 grand slams, or 32 home runs. Either one would be tremendous for a kid, but he didn't care. He was surrounded by all except Golden as he reached the dugout. The first inning was over after Apple Bloom grounded into a double play to end the inning. The Elements ran out and took their positions.

Golden watched in horror as Apple Bloom swished her tail in front of Sulfer, causing him to smirk. Golden was furious now, he knew his girlfriend didn't like him anymore, and wanted Sulfer. His pupils flared red and his eyes twitched, he was in a state of mind that couldn't be interrupted.
