Young Baseball
First Game 4/4
Previous ChapterNext ChapterGolden Bullet woke up to the sound of a loud crack and an announcer like voice coming through the static of a radio. Next to him, sat a clearly sweaty Apple Bloom. It took him a while to remember what had happened before he passed out from too much bliss. He blushed a chuckled a little, which caused the filly next to him to turn.
"Good mornin'!" She said in a cheerful voice that was all so beautiful. "Ya just... fainted right after ya-."
"Yeah, I know." He said before Apple Bloom could finish. Then, a sudden realization hit him. "Wait, did you say morning?" He asked, worry in his eyes.
"Aint't 8:54 A.M. mornin'?" She asked, worried if she made a mistake.
"It is, oh no! The game... that I was thrown out of." He said remembering the events that took place in the locker room. Suddenly, the radio next to the bed boomed and an announcer spoke.
"Again, in the first game of the 'Equestrian Little League Championships', two teams stood head to head. Trottingham and Ponyville were both fighting to win this one, but one inning from Ponyville really kicked them into gear."
Another started up. "That's it, Ponyville had two players go to the hospital, and one ejected by his own coach!" Golden Bullet lowered his head in shame, Apple Bloom comforted him with a hug. "But they still came back to take the lead, and even keep it as the last inning was over."
"Did he just say... what I think he said?" Golden Bullet looked up at the radio.
"We... won?!"
"Tremendous pitching from the old ace player Sulfer to keep Trottingham from scoring any runs. Heck, in the time he pitched, he had a perfect game! During the 6th inning, that same ace player smashed a solo shot, giving his team the one-run lead. Silver went 5-5 in that game, and hit every possible homerun! From solo, to a base clearer!" The enthusiastic announcer exclaimed.
"Sulfer..." Golden gripped the sides of the bed in anger. Seeing this, Apple Bloom pecked his cheek. His girlfriends nice, pretty lips were enough to calm him from his rage.
"Sad game however... for Golden Bullet."
Golden stared off, tuning out everything but the radio.
"Yep, he sure had his worst. He sent two of his own players to the hospital, and got ejected for it. The future Major Leaguer, just dropped his chances at becoming one. Not only from attitude, but from performance. He had only two at bats and went 1-2 with a single. In his first and only inning pitched he allowed 14 runs, all homeruns! Even Trottingham put in a player with an average of .012, even he got a homerun!"
"Golden... Ah... Ah don't know what to say." Apple Bloom said before bucking the radio into the wall, causing it to glitch and break.
"Don't... it's my fault your in the hospital. I... I'm just confused." Golden said through sadness. Apple Bloom then felt concern. Her brave boyfriend was now upset, and who could blame him?!
"Golden, those scouts ain't got the slightest clue who ya are if they think one bad game means yer a bad player. Ah know ya only did the things ya did because ya cared about me. Ah can't believe Ah almost lost ya forever." Apple Bloom said with small hints of tears in her eyes. "But Ah'm good and strong, Ah know y'all are too. We can win this fer our team, we can give Ponyville a title."
Golden Bullet lifted his spirit. She was right, the team has a chance at the championship. They could win once and for all this time.
"But, we're facing Babs in the next game in a week. Her team won by 5, the score bein' 5-0."
"We'll win, no sweat. Say, did they ever say who we're facing in the championships if we get there?" Golden asked with a hint of worry, but mostly wonder. Apple Bloom thought, then shook her head.
"We'll buck that tree when we get ta it. Right now, it's go time fer Ponyville!" But then Apple Bloom cringed and layered an "Ow." "When Ah get better, at least." She said. The two erupted into laughter and held each other in there hooves.
Back at Speedster
"Do you think you'll be better by next week?" Scootaloo asked her incapacitated friend, who stared at her through pained eyes.
"What do you think?" Scootaloo shrugged and blushed embarrassingly.
"Are you ok, Sweetie Belle?" Speedster asked.
"I'm fine Speedy, it's so cute how much you worry about me." With that, she leaned in and pecked Speedster on the cheek. Speed blushed and locked eyes with his special somepony, mostly because it was the only part of her face he could see. Scootaloo made gagging noises.
"Alright, enough with the mushy stuff." She said in a grossed tone. The couple chuckled and giggled at this.
"So who won?" Sweetie asked, she was in a hospital bed, and thankfully not shaking and gurgling. The doctors have given her enough treatment for her to talk, but not to move. If she were to move, it would hurt, but she didn't care when she kissed Speedster.
"Thanks to the new pony," Scootaloo went into a blissful state and sighed. "Sulfer... yes."
The couple looked at each other, trying to hold in their laughter. Instead, it came out like this.
"Scootaloo and Sulfer, sitting in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G."
Scootaloo blushed and looked away.
"...First comes love, then comes marriage. Then comes a foal in the foal carriage."
"Maybe before marriage..."
