The Song of the Stars

By The Isapie

"One small voice

can teach the world a song

Start with one small voice..."

"TILL ANOTHER JOINS ALONG!"

"Umm, Twilight, I think that's a little over the top. Try toning it down just a touch?"

"Sure, Sweetie Belle."

Sweetie Belle and Nyx were giving Twilight singing lessons. The two had a day off from running the Cutie Mark Crusaders Centre, and neither was willing to spend all day, burning daylight.

Twilight was having a little trouble with her volume control, though.

"Mom, are you alright? You've groaned a total of four times in the past five minutes, just about how you're hungry," remarked Nyx. Her purple mane came loose as she magically used the scrunchie to tie her mother's mane.

"I'm fine. I'm just really hungry!" Admitted Twilight.

"Well, Dad always said to sing on an empty stomach, though I can't possibly fathom why. Let's get some lunch!" Declared Sweetie Belle.

The trio left Sweetie Belle's studio and they went for lunch at Sugarcube Corner, which was more a cafe than a bakery now.

Pumpkin Cake, now a young mare, served them. "Hello, Princess, Nyx, Sweetie Belle, what can I get you?"

"No need to call me Princess, Pumpkin. I've known your parents long enough for that. As for the order, can you get Nyx and myself each a bowl of celery soup?" Said Twilight warmly.

"And a dandelion sandwich?" Asked Nyx brightly.

"Yes, and a dandelion sandwich for Nyx," chuckled Twilight. "Sweetie Belle, what would you like?"

"Not much. I guess I'll get a small lettuce-and-cheese sandwich, please," said the young rockstar.

"Gotcha!" Said Pumpkin, and ran into the kitchen. She returned a few minutes later with all the ordered food.

Twilight paid her very generously, at which Pumpkin blushed. "Thank you, Princess," she said, shying away.

The trio then returned to their lunch.

Twilight fished out every bit of celery in her soup, then stole a piece of Nyx's sandwich and dunked it in. She magically tossed it into her mouth, then sloppily drank the remaining soup.

Nyx picked up the rest of her sandwich and wondered where it went. "Did I eat this already?"

Twilight burped noisily, and everyone there looked at her. "Excuse me!" Giggled the flatulent princess.

"Mom, I'm taking you to the doctor's place," Nyx declared a few minutes later when Twilight threw up into her cup.

"Well, I'mma burn me some sunlight," sighed Sweetie Belle.

"But you have to understand! My wife is in there! She's a princess! And my awesome, totally-not-scary daughter's in there!"

"I'm sorry, Mr. Sentry, but you'll have to wait. You're covered in mud, and we don't want to spread any diseases."

Flash Sentry sat down with a thump on the waiting room chair, feeling defeated. Sweetie Belle had encountered him in town and told him that Nyx had teleported Twilight and herself to Ponyville Hospital.

He'd ran through town, but when he realized that dodging ponies was going to be too slow, he flew~right into Applejack's orchard.

Thankfully, there was no damage done to either pony or tree.

By the time Flash had gotten to the hospital, he was covered in mud, foliage and scraps of sour apples. Then, the mare at the window wouldn't even let him see his beloved wife and daughter? Geez.

Flash Sentry sat back and thought of the worse possible cases.

1, Twilight had cancer and Flash and Nyx would be loners without the amazing purple alicorn;

2, she had two days or less to go;

3, she had broken something and was going to be stationary for the next year;

4, she was permanently hospitalized.

Flash assumed the first two were the worse, the third was not too bad, and the last was pretty bad.

Suddenly, Twilight and Nyx came out of one of the rooms. Nyx was vibrating, with a grim look on her face.

"Twi? Nyxie? What happened? Are you going to die?!?! DON'T LEAVE ME!" Asked Flash, ending with a massive, pleading pout on his face.

"Nope. Try again. Nyx, I forbade you to tell your father before I tell you that you can," grinned Twilight.

"Mmm," responded Nyx.

"Uh, are you perfectly fine?"

'Nope. Nyx, tell him."

"DAD MOM'S HAVING A BABY AND I'M GONNA BE A BIG SISTER AND I'M SO EXCITED AND..."Nyx bounced off, spewing out random noises of happiness as she did so.

At the same time, Flash Sentry's eyes nearly popped out.

Nyx was a teenager. She was already really independent.

But a new-born filly or foal? Oh no.

Flash Sentry's eyes went back to normal, then he fainted on the hospital floor.
