Author’s Notes: Hey guys, NK here! No, I didn’t dump any other previous projects on FF.net, so don’t start bombing questions at me. This is a Dead Rising crossover; like the game, the details in some parts may be gory. There is mild swearing used, but not to the point where there’s a curse word in every single paragraph. Enjoy it, and I hope to have a great time writing the story out! (This may spoil Dead Rising 2: Off the Record partially)

----------Prologue----------

Darkness. It overwhelmed Frank West as he was knocked out by TK. Many thoughts had been processing in his busy brain, only to be abruptly wiped out. He felt numb as the electrification stopped, making him fall to the ground. The host of the ‘Terror is Reality’ show said some dumb remarks, but he couldn’t exactly hear what he said. All that mattered was that Frank lost in a humiliating way.

He felt pathetic; he was a freelance photojournalist that had managed to clear what really happened at the mall in Willamette. Not only that, but he had crawled out of the craziest situations in one piece. But to be defeated by the lowliest criminals of all time was a disgrace. The pride of being a hero slowly disappeared, being replaced by anger and determination.

Frank didn’t want to die here. No, he felt that his time was far from death. Some may say he became corrupted after he became a celebrity, but he wanted to prove them wrong. He wanted the fame about him grow once more, and he wanted to get back in the game.

Sooner or later, he noticed that he couldn’t hear anything at all. He thought that while a majority of his six senses were at its’ lowest levels, his consciousness was still working normally. Confused, he attempted to open his eyes. Strangely, he felt them open normally.

After about what felt like an eternity, Frank managed to stand up. He groggily looked around his surroundings. There was absolutely nothing but white, along with his shadow.

‘Is this the afterlife? Or is this just another mindfuck TK planned for me?’ thought Frank.

Suddenly, something pitch-black appeared from a distance. Squinting, he noticed that it was some square apparently in the middle of nowhere.

‘Ok, this is nuts…’

Frank walked towards the square, gathering up his courage. However, as he walked, he noticed that the white surroundings slowly turned dark as he approached the square. The square, much to Frank’s surprise, turned into a bright light when he went towards it. When he was right in front of the square, he looked back and found the place he was in completely dark.

Frank muttered quietly, “Here goes nothing…”

He reached out a hand at the square. That moment probably scared the living hell out of him, as he was suddenly pulled in. Frank couldn’t scream because of the abrupt action that knocked him off his guard.

The man fell towards a fate that he may hate or love. Either way, he still hoped that he would be alive to have another scoop…

----------Dead Rising----------Off the World----------Chapter 1 - Goodbye, Nevada----------

“Man, my back is killing me…”

Frank West opened his eyes. This time, he felt some energy inside of him, but he knew that it may vanish faster than he could think it would. He placed his hands on the soft ground, which was surprisingly grass. Frank grumbled,

“Thank God it wasn’t a canyon…”

After managing to stand up, he looked around him; there were trees everywhere. There weren’t any roads, but heck, there was a messy dirt path. Before he began walking recklessly, a realization dawned on him.

‘Who knows how long the road would actually take me somewhere? What I need right now are some tools, other supplies, and food.’

Frank thought about this for a minute. However, seeing that he couldn’t make anything, he decided to shrug it off.

“I’ll deal with it later. I mean, hell, this might not be as bad as Willamette.”

The photographer walked in the dirt path while thinking about many situations he could suddenly go in. Since he was in the wild, he had to think of some type of defensive weapon. He then felt something in underneath is suit. Frank managed to grab it and see what it was for himself. What he saw, however, made him grin.

In his hand was mankind’s most favored modern weapon; a pistol. Not only could he carry the destructive baby with one hand, but it could shoot out bullets that could fly faster than a running tiger. Ammo would become a problem later, but for now, Frank was satisfied with the amount of bullets he had. However, the man saw something in the dirt path.

He felt his heart skip a beat when he saw a cottage.

‘...Wait… if this place has people living in it… then maybe… just maybe I could borrow shelter after making a good story.’

He walked up towards the cottage that seemed to be placed comfortably. As he got closer, he felt more confidence rising up inside him. When Frank arrived at the door, he nearly kicked the door open until he realized something.

‘Oh yeah, this isn’t Fortune City… how could I forget that so easily? ‘

The man knocked on the door several times. When the door didn’t respond immediately, he decided to wait and enjoy the view behind him. Frank definitely admired the scenery in the forest; many birds flying around, small animals roaming around the ground, fresh air… what more would he need to make such a beautiful combination?

Suddenly, a large crashing noise was made from the cottage. Frank spun around, and looked through a ‘very-large-window-like-thingy-or-whatever-the-heck-it-was’ but found a coach blocking the way.

Oh yes, some chaos fills in the missing gaps at such peaceful times.

Slightly angered and curious at the same time, Frank kicked the door open, along with the coach blocking it. The immense strength he had managed to send the coach flying out of a window in the room.

“Nuts. I’m gonna pay for that one later…” mumbled Frank.

He looked around the room; there were many panicked animals inside that ran around the place because of the sudden havoc that occurred. Surprised, Frank pointed the gun at the floor and fired it, attempting the scare the animals away.

It did. Well, the pistol was unnecessarily loud, but Frank didn’t exactly care because of the noise level going out of control in the cottage. Sooner or later, the animals jumped out of the window he broke and hid underneath it. Apparently, they were waiting for him to leave.

“Dammit, where’s the owner when you need one?”

Frank sighed and saw a comfy looking sofa. It was tempting, but he knew better than to rudely use it for himself. After all, it may be one of those ‘favorite chair’ things.

However, the photographer caught some movement underneath the sofa. Cautiously, he walked towards it, fearing that it may be some type of clown ready to kill him. When he grabbed the sofa, he managed to pick it up, only to find something very shocking in front of him.

He saw a yellow Pegasus in front of him.

Frank felt his heart beat faster as he came up with two situations.

‘Either I became insane like those damn clowns, or I’m just insane….. *wait a minute*…’

However, he knew that he couldn’t lose a chance like this. He felt his hands grab onto his camera and lifted them up. The camera shot out a bright flash of light, startling the Pegasus.

Just when he wanted to observe the new picture, he heard the Pegasus moving. He looked up to see it about to jump out of a window.

“Umm, I ain’t gonna hurt you. Just trying to get some neat photos while I’m in this hellhole of mine…” said Frank grimly.

The Pegasus gasped at the statement he made. That triggered Frank to contemplate once more.

‘Does that thing- no, pon- no, PEGASUS understand what I’m saying? Dammit, maybe I really am insane.’

Suddenly he saw the Pegasus whisper out,

“You’re not g-going to hurt me?”

Frank’s eyes widened. The voice clearly came out of what was a deformed-talking-pony-with-wings. Just when he suddenly wanted to stomp the crap out of it, he decided to play along.

“Yeah! I mean, I don’t have anything I could harm you with right now anyways. And who knows how strong you are? You could consider me as a stranger needing temporary shelter.”

The Pegasus slowly crept up to him. However, the photographer’s eyes cringed slightly when he saw a…

‘A tattoo? On its *ASS*? Man, maybe this is supposed to be some horse from a Biker gang…’

“Umm… you could stay here for a while if you’d like…”

Frank woke up from his little world as he noticed the Pegasus letting him stay here. He put on a smile as he nodded politely. The man then walked up to a chair and sat down.

Or at least, he tried to.

The chair instantly broke because of his weight. Utterly shocked by the loud noise of the chair, the yellow Pegasus quietly screamed and ran out of the door. Sitting on top of the mess, Frank found himself facepalming.

“And here I thought I wasn’t much of a fatso…”

It had been several minutes since the ‘Chair Incident’. Frank felt uncomfortable because the Pegasus hadn’t come back. He feared that it may summon a crapload of other talking horses that would attempt to trample him to death. He stared at the gun on his hand.

“Honestly, I think this little thing won’t have many uses in this type of place. But who knows what might happen…”

The photographer put back the gun away in his suit. He knew he would use it when it was only necessary. Of course, Frank wasn’t the trigger-happy type, so he at least wanted to prevent himself from becoming like one.

However, when thirty minutes clearly passed, Frank found himself walking towards the door. He didn’t want to sit there and wait for some type of assault to suddenly occur on him. The man also craved for some cooked meat. Opening the door slightly, his head popped out of the entrance to look around his surroundings. Nothing active seemed to be going on, but it may have many traps laid out for him.

Slowly, he walked out of the house. He followed the dirt path once more…

Frank finally arrived at what he wanted to see; a town. He was about to barge in, but he heard a strange noise behind him. The man looked behind him only to find a creepy looking figure far away in the path he just came from.

“…Hello?”

The figure did not even flinch a little. It stayed there, assumingly staring at the frightened man.

Frank called out once more, “Hello?!”

Suddenly, the figure began to move. It walked sluggishly, but it was fast enough to intimidate Frank. He felt himself bring out the gun he had with him. Many zombie kills gave him the gift of accuracy, but that wasn’t the thing he was concerned about at the moment.

“Who are you?!”

Frank now saw the figure fully. It was a human like him, but…

“Oh no…”

It was the insane man that was on a slicecycle back in Fortune City; Chuck Greene.
