Standing Frozen
Chapter Two: Elsa
Previous ChapterNext ChapterI was lying in my bed, trying to sleep. Once I did, I was woken up by a whisper.
“Elsa!” the voice was. It was none other than my younger sister, Anna. “Elsa, wake up, wake up, wake up!”
Because I wanted to go back to sleep, I replied, trying to get it over with. “Anna, go back to sleep,”
However, she was persistent. “I can’t!” she exclaimed. “The sky’s awake, so I’m awake, so we have to play!”
I gently pushed her off the bed with my wing. “Go play by yourself,” I said.
She popped back up on the bed, with her light orange hoof opening my eye. “Do you want to build a snowpony?” she asked.
I opened my eyes. She knew that I couldn’t resist a snowpony. Since I was born with my cutie mark, I had even more powerful magic than any other alicorn. I was born with a snowflake on my flank, instead of it being blank. Since Anna had understood it, she always asked me to use it. Since my alicorn magic is very powerful, I needed to be more responsible with it. But, I couldn’t resist Anna’s offer. So, I took her up on it.
Anna was giggling as we went down the stairs. I was trying to keep her quiet, so we wouldn’t wake up our parents. Once we reached the ballroom, Anna was galloping with joy.
“Do the magic! Do the magic!” she screamed.
I started to beam up my horn. “Ready?” I asked.
Anna nodded. With my horn, I created a snowball out of thin air. Anna giggled.
“Check this out!” I exclaimed. I stomped my hoof on the ground, creating a floor of ice. Anna was happy. Later, I had created mountains of snow and snowflakes in the ballroom, and even created a snowpony.
Anna smiled at the snowpony, and I made it a little fun. I went behind the snowpony, and said in a weird voice, “Hi, I’m Olaf, and I like warm hugs!”
Anna came running up to the snowpony. “I love you, Olaf!” she said.
It was just the two of us. Nothing could be better. As we sat in front of the snowpony, nothing mattered; nothing seemed like it was bad. We were together, and that was what was important.
But, that was thirteen years ago, when Anna was five, and I was eight. But, now, there I was, alone. I thought about that, and almost considered going back to Arendelle, but I knew that I couldn’t. I can’t go back, I thought. Not after what I’ve done. I was afraid of what they would do to me. I was called a monster. I just couldn’t go back. I felt much safer in the ice palace that I had created, isolated from everybody else. Nobody could hurt me, I couldn’t hurt them, and that was that. I felt like this was the way I was supposed to live the rest of my life. No harm, no danger, no right, no wrong, no rules. I was, for the first time in my life, free.
But, I had also thought about Anna. How she had reacted when she had seen this. I had thought about the rest of that night in the ballroom.
I had made snow hills, which Anna had decided to jump on. As she kept jumping, I made more hills to catch her fall. Her wings were very weak and fragile, thus, she couldn’t fly very well.
“Catch me!” she yelled as she galloped across the hills.
“Wait! Slow down!” I yelled. But, she didn’t hear me. I tried to save her. I slipped on the ice, and Anna began to fall.
“Anna!” I yelled. I shot a blast to create something to catch her, but it hit her head instead. Creating a white streak in her braided strawberry-blonde mane, she was as cold as ice. “Mama! Papa!”
My parents came rushing in, bursting through the ice-covered door. “Elsa, this is getting out of hand,” my father said.
“It was an accident. I’m sorry, Anna.” I said, hoping my sister was alright.
“Relax, I know where to take her,” he said to my mother. She had this look in her eyes, as if to say, I can’t believe this is happening, which I could agree with. My dad levitated Anna onto his back, and we went out the palace walls. We galloped all the way to the forest, and went to a place surrounded by rocks. “Help!” my father exclaimed. “My daughter-“
No sooner than the second he said that, the rocks started moving towards us. The opened up, revealing themselves into being trolls.
“It’s the king!” one exclaimed. Another came rolling through, ending up right in front of us. “Your majesty, is she born with the powers or cursed?” the one in front of us said.
“Born, and they’re getting stronger,” my father said.
The main troll examined Anna. He sighed with relief. “You’re lucky it was not the heart. The heart cannot be so easily persuaded. The head, however, can be tempted easily.”
“What are you saying?” my mother asked.
“I’m recommending that we remove all memory of magic from her mind,” the troll said. “But not to worry, I leave the fun that the two of you had together.”
“So, she won’t remember that I have powers?” I asked.
“It is for the best.” Father said.
“Listen, Elsa,” the troll said. He began projecting a picture of an older me, demonstrating my power from my horn. “There is great beauty in your power,” the image quickly changed to red, consuming me, “but also great danger. You need to learn to control your power, or fear will be your enemy.”
“We’ll protect her, I promise.” Father said. “In the meantime, lock the gates. We’ll reduce the staff, and we’ll keep her powers hidden from everypony, including Anna.”
That was the moment that completely changed my life. That was how I spent 13 years of my life. Locked away, nothing to do, and concealing my growing abilities. When I became Queen, I thought that it would be the same, but when my powers were unleashed, it changed everything. I finally felt, for the first time in forever, that I was free. Nothing could take that from me.
