Day One

It was a cold, winter day in Ponyville, the weather team had scheduled for a snowstorm to fly over town tonight, and I didn’t want to be caught outside in a storm like that. As if on cue, a snowflake fell onto my muzzle eliciting a giggle from me.

"Better hurry before the storm hits." I said to nopony in particular as I giggled, recalling an excited Rainbow Dash helping me last year when I couldn't find my way home during one of these storms.

She was a nice pony, I liked her, maybe too much but I still thought of her as a nice pony who would do anything for somepony else.

"Speak of the maker, look who it is..." I mused to myself seeing Rainbow resting on one of the clouds high above.

She must have heard my hoof steps as I trotted along the path to my neighborhood as she turned her head to look down from her comfy perch on her makeshift bed.

"Hey Melody, how's it hangin'?" she asked with a grin on her muzzle.

"I'm fine, and I'm mighty jealous of you being able to sleep on those comfy clouds. All I have is an old stiff mattress. How are you?" I looked up with a smirk plastered on my face. She smiled back giggling at my playful remark.

"Nothing too special, just making sure the storm's on time- Hey, wait a minute, you’re a Pegasus. Well... sort of. Why don't you just fly, like, ever?" Rainbow said as she looked back towards me, a confused look on her face.

Tis true, I'm a Nocturne Pegasus that can't fly. My wings are only powerful enough to get me but a few inches off the ground. I've been told that the hospital's unicorns could fix me, but I liked myself the way I was.

I looked at my athletic friend with an annoyed look and replied "I can't. Don’t you remember? My wings are too weak."

"I still don't see why you haven't already gone to get that fixed. Speaking of which, Why haven’t you?" She asked, cocking her head to the side. While it's true I don't want to fix my wings, I never really knew the exact reason.

"I don't really know Dash, but I really need to get home soon before the storm gets too much for me to handle." I said with a smile.

"Okay, if you say so" she said, before turning back around to face the sky.

The rest of the trip home was uneventful per usual living on the outskirts of Ponyville. My house is a two story rustic log cabin with large windows and a cobble pathway leading to two large Prench style oak doors with ornate carvings and beautiful brass handles. Walking up to the front door and unlocking it, I stepped inside, closing the doors behind me.

I trotted into my large rustic-styled kitchen, eager for my evening meal. I took the blood bags I had gotten from the hospital's blood bank out of my saddle bags and placed them in the ice box, leaving one on the counter for me to drink.

Yes, I am a vampony, but all the rumors and legends are not true. How so, you may ask? Because as you can tell, I was just walking outside with the sun out. And silver can't really harm me. Plus holy objects don't phase me much either. But one fact remains true... And this fact is a blessing and a curse…..Immortality.

I don't mind living 'till the end of time, but it's sad to see close friends die of old age, while your still looking young and untouched by time.
I took the blood pack and emptied it into a large crystal glass before I sat down at the large cherry wood table where today's newspaper sat unread. I looked at the front page and read the title, "Mysterious Wheeled Machine Appears in the Canterlot Gardens! Suspected to be placed there by the Mystery Alicorn!"

Ah, the Mystery Alicorn has once again succeeded in getting front page news. This mare has succeeded at somehow revealing my secret to all of Ponyville, helped Princess Twilight with the restoration of the sisters castle in the Everfree forest (by restoration, I mean rebuilding all the secret entrances and traps), and has managed to keep her identity completely unknown.

I began to drink the contents in my glass when something caught my eye. There was a faint white glow coming from under my bedroom door. I continued to stare at the door for a few more moments before downing the entire glass and slowly approaching my room. I held my hoof out to open the door, but before I could even touch it with my hoof, it slowly opened with a loud creaking noise. What I saw next stunned me and made me freeze.

My large, full body mirror had a faint glow coming from it and the mirror itself had a rippled look as though it were made of liquid chrome.

"What in Tartarus..." I whispered to myself, slowly entering the room. The door closed behind me, making it seem even more creepy. I carefully approached the mirror and made sure to keep a decent amount of distance between me and the mirror. I stopped a few hooves in front of the mirror and stared at it for a moment.

Curiosity got the best of me and I reached out to touch it. When my hoof made contact with the mirror, it sent ripples throughout the surface, like calm water being disturbed. I reached out again, but put my hoof all the way through, only for the rest of my body to be pulled into the mirror.

My vision was overtaken by darkness, my ears were ringing loudly, and my body felt like it was being squeezed through a small hole. I clenched my eyes shut, hoping this would be over soon. After my ears stopped ringing and I felt a cold breeze, I reopened my eyes and my three and a half thousand years of being alive could have never prepared me for what I saw next.
