After the defeating Tirek, Twilight becomes interested in learning how to control the power given to her by Celestia, Luna, and Cadence. After a few hours of practicing, dark magic finds its way into her mind, corrupting it. Twilight overthrows Celestia, Luna, and Cadence and declares herself ruler of Equestria. She let the darkness into her mind, and her friends will do whatever it takes to get her back. It won't be easy.
