The sound of little foals can be heard from a school. They have just got out from hearing the story of the Deity dragons, and some of them pretend to be the dragons from legends, grabbing sticks and battling out to see who's victorious. Their was one filly in particular that decided to go home instead of hanging with the others. She was different from the rest, and because of that, she didn't have any friends. This didn't bother her, for she had many mares and stallions who adore her, and love her as their own daughter. Her name was Quest, the Pegasus who, at this time, didn't know how to fly yet. Her dream is to explore hidden places and discover new land, and she wasn't going to let the foals ruin her plans of succeeding.
Quest opens the door to her medium - sized house, only to be greeted by her mother who was waiting for her. "Hello mother," she simply says. Her mother, Sun Spot, welcomes her with a smile and a kiss on the check. Since Quest was the only foal, her parents took special care of her, and rarely let her out to the open fields to hang out. Her parents wouldn't be so worried if she friends going with her, but apparently her mother and father was aware of her not having friends.
"Welcome home Quest. what did you learn today? Did anyone get the chance to talk to you? She hates to ask her own filly about that, but she couldn't help it. It's very nice to be looked up to by the other adult ponies, but it still bothered her that no one of Quest's age wanted to be her friend, or by any chance know her any better. It's not because she's more to herself, it's her presence and an aura around her that makes her special, and Sun Spot smiled at Quest while fixing her hair, and telling her to stop covering half of her face.
Quest fixes her hair back the way she wanted it and adds, "I like my hair like this, and no mother, no one has talked to me yet, but I'm not going to let that get to me. Their just jealous of me, so it's a good thing that I'm not their friend."
"It is a good thing to have friends. Their able to help you with anything, and that includes flying." She goes back into their small kitchen and washes her hands, and Quest heads upstairs.
"I can just ask the adults for help, like you and dad? In fact, where is dad?" She finished climbing up the stairs and goes by her parent's room door and knocks. No answer.
"Dusk Shower went to go pick up more wood for the fireplace dear, he'll be back later," Sun Spot yells from the kitchen. Quest hears and yells an ok and heads to her room. Once in, she immediately grabs her diary from her dresser where her candle is lit, picks up a inked feather, opens her book, and thinks about what to write. She thinks about what happened today, and yesterday, but then remembers about a dream she had last night. It wasn't a memorable dream, but it interest her.
Flattening out the page, she begins to write, but stops again when she thinks about the phrase 'Dear Diary.' Being it to cliché, she writes something else to replace it, then writes ahead. "Dear King Deity, today, well last night, I had this weird dream. I didn't know what it meant, but it was fascinating. It was about two Alicorns, one was light, and one was darker colored. I don't know if the colors mean bad or good, but they were doing something..." She was interrupted by the sound of foals outside her window. She peeks and see's three fillies mocking her and saying that Quest's only friend is a stupid diary, and she should really get a life. She quickly shuts her window doors and continues about what to write next. She then decided that drawing something was another option, and started to sketch the two Alicorns circling the Earth, and the aura around it in the shape of a peace sign. "Even though Alicorns are the most powerful beings now, they will not be able to live her in Clydesdale. Magic isn't allowed here, and if these silly ponies see something that's not right with somepony, they'll do court, judge them, and hang them. I don't know why were so scared of magic... I guess they don't want to take orders from a higher being perhaps? We need one so they can teach these stupid foals a lesson..."The sound of the front door opening takes Quest from her writing, and here's her dad yell an I'm home to her mother. Closing her diary, she runs downstairs to greet him.
"Hey their Quest. How was your day?" He says simply while putting the logs in the fireplace and the rest in a cabinet.
"It was good dad. Same as always. When are you going to give me more flying lessons?" Quest said happily. "You hardly ever teach me anymore. I know your busy and all, but you should have time for me. She was now pouting at him, but only did that so he can feel sorry for her and end up saying yes or I'll teach you, but he wasn't for it this time, so instead he told her about the weather conditions today, and how she should pay attention to the weather more since she's a Pegasus. "Well, how about tomorrow? Please?"
"Alright Quest. Tomorrow I promise." He stops for a drink of water, then says, "And promise me you'll make some friends tomorrow." Quest gave a groan and a fine as she runs upstairs to her room again.
She can hear faint snicker and laughter outside her window, but doesn't bother to open it and see who their talking about. She into her bathroom, and was about to brush her teeth when she caught herself staring at a birth mark on her right hoof. It was in the shape of a butterfly, and ever since then she was picked on because of it. "Why am I the one to get picked on? I didn't do anything to them... Why? Is it because my family is rich is many ways, or am I just a selfish show off? Tears pour down as she slides down to the ground, with her hair now covering her right eye. She cries because she blames herself for being so adored by the adults, she blames herself for getting bullied, and she also blames herself for hating her real name that her parents gave her. She would never speak of that name because of how weird it sounded, and how it separates from everyone else's name. Oh how she was different. Quest thought that this weakness wouldn't stop her from anything, but at this moment, it stopped her from believing in what she can do that very hour...
Back in the kitchen, while cooking today's meal, Sun Spot notices little spots hovering in the air. She stops and looks confusingly, blinking a few times when suddenly a wave of pain coursed though her stomach, and caused her to fall.. She was also coughing, and she felt like throwing up, but nothing cam up. Dusk Shower runs to her and cradles her. "I thought the doctor said that the sickness was just going to pass." Ever since Dusk was with Sun Spot, she had been going sickness after sickness, and at one point it stopped her from going outside, talking, or having foals. But Dusk knew that this illness was getting worse by the days, and his worriedness increases as well. He helps his sickly mare up and says, "you still haven't told Quest about this. When are you going to tell her about this-"
"I can't. At least, not right now. I don't want her to worry about this at a young age, as long as I'm living, I still have a chance." She interrupts, balancing her way up.
"But what happens when you don't have that chance? What happens if their is no cure for your sickness? All these years you were sick, but not like this. Tomorrow when Quest is at school, I'm taking you back to the doctor to see if you'll feel better soon."
"Thanks dear for looking out for me. And yes, I will tell Quest about it. Let's just hope this illness goes permanently..."
