A Fifty State Hike
Prologue
Load Full StoryBack in 2007, Before the discovery of the race of the Equines, America sent a rocket up to the Hubble Space Telescope carrying classified technology. A brand new piece of equipment that could sense heartbeats and other life signatures from two thousand miles away. The info was released to the public when the Hubble Telescope picked up something coming towards earth. A huge amount a signatures concentrated into three major sources. Upon more investigation, it turned out to be three space ships of a unknown origin. But, by the time they found them, they would arrive in two weeks.
This gave the United States limited time to react. They didn't respond to the message fearing the consequences. They first informed the United Nations about their discovery, and told them to take up arms, just incase the aliens were enemies, not knowing if the aliens technology was outdated or not. Eventually the word spread to other countries, and soon, Russia, North Korea, the whole of the Middle East, and countless others raised their weapons towards the stars. An alliance was formed between nearly everyone on the Earth.
And just like clock work, in two weeks time, the aliens were just about to knock on our doors. But what happened next shocked everyone on the planet. Nobody was expecting the aliens to stop. The entire planet was on lock down, the people of the world found what cover they could find, and took shelter, soldiers lined the streets of every major city of almost every country in the world with an unimaginable amount of weapons, and the United Nations were called for an emergency meeting in London waiting for the aliens to find them praying for the end not to come.
Then, the aliens made the first move, by finding a way to open a communications link between the United Nations and themselves. They turned on the a major television screen in the middle of the meeting room as the first alien face the earth had ever officially seen, was, a, horse? Or as the aliens put, ponies.
The president of the United States did most of the talking while Britain butted in here and there for clarification from time to time. They said that they were a peaceful race and were looking for a new place to live, from, what it sounded like the end of their world, ‘Our planet's weather took a mind of its own and ravaged our world causing it to flood and freeze nearly instantly.’ The alien who talked was their leader, Princess Celestia, she also introduced her sister, and co-ruler Princess Luna, along with their major line of defence the Elements of Harmony, lead by another princess, Princess Twilight Sparkle.
The United Nations had to think it over for a couple of hours, by taking in a few afflicting factors, like, what would the public think, where could we send them once they touch down, where could they go, and who would take responsibility for them? The arguments raged on for, what seemed like weeks, but was only seven hours. In the end, they didn’t know what the public would think, they could send them to the great plains of the United States, and everyone would take ownership of them, but mostly America.
So not trying to waste anymore time, they informed the pony race of the idea, and they were overjoyed. So, they entered Earth, and touched down on Wyoming 100 miles away from the state capital, Cheyenne. But upon touch down, when the ponies left there spaceships, nothing seemed to happen for a little while. They got themselves situated for the moment, and they got ready to unload. That was of course until the United States National Guard rode up in their Humvees and Strykers and had the whole air space cut off by Apaches. But, they were given orders to keep an eye on them, nothing more. Needless to say the ponies were in shock, on dozens of reasons. Ranging from technology and knowledge, to speed and numbers of soldiers. A whole battalion was dispatched from the nearest FOB for the U.S.N.G, and lieutenant colonel Richard Barebanks led them.
The princess asked who was in charge, he stepped forward, and told her the situation. He said that until the president arrives to talk with you, you're gonna have to stay here, and we'll be watching you from a far. The princess agreed to these terms and went back to her loyal subjects. After nearly two weeks of waiting and waiting, the princess got what she needed, the president arrived along with his secret service agents, and scientists. The reason it took forever for the president to arrive was he was thinking of a way to give the Equines, room to live. And thus giving them, five of our states from them to claim as their new country.
Princess Celestia and the others had to think it over for a second by leaving the group and discussing it alone. Coming back, they said that they were great full and were only going to take four states instead of five. And so, documents were signed, deals were made, and the United States of New Equestria was born. (U.S.N.E) Montana, Wyoming, Utah, and Colorado were separated and new borders were drawn, along with currency exchange, erecting a democracy instead of a monarchy, and cities began construction from the already built human ones. Oh yeah, and the US government told all of the people in the states to drop what they were doing, pack up their bags, and leave the states.
This however was stopped by the princess saying that, having the humans around may help their new country develop into a more, productive country than before. As in humans teaching them how to work certain jobs, helping them with things they couldn't do like Earth Ponies and Pegasuses not being able to complete complex tasks without magic, or hands. Along with helping the Equines make technology that implemented magic to benefit humans and ponies alike.
But some people didn't like the fact that, America was losing four of its states and even though they could stay, most chose to leave the U.S.N.E. later that following year in 2008, riots broke out in Washington D.C. with angry protesters saying that they wanted their homes back into their country. They were bloody battles too. Molotov cocktails were thrown, people were beaten down the the point of broken bones, and hundreds were arrested through January to late July. But by August, the riots stopped, and most of the people disbanded from the cause, while others could still be seen into late 2012.
