Twilight Sparkle's mother writes books. Her big brother, and best friend forever, doesn't read that much. Her father collects valuable books and sells them. After she's read them, of course. Which suits her completely. She loves having her life play out this way. She had recently become Princess Celestia's apprentice. She'd grow up and study magic for the rest of her life.

So when she starts reading one of the books her mother has forbidden, she is shocked when she is ordered to go outside to play just when she gets to the good part.

She decides to run away.
