The good part.

Load Full StoryMy name is Twilight Sparkle. I don't get a middle name because that is an Earth Pony tradition, not a unicorn one, but when I grow up I intend to officially change what is now nothing into a middle name- Tyrannosaurus. Spike thinks it is a good idea because a Tyrannosaurus is a dinosaur and dragons evolved from the dinosaur. Spike is a dragon. In the future Spike is going to write for me, but Spike does not know how to write yet. I also won't have to make Shining protect me anymore because dinosaurs are large and scary and they have very sharp teeth. They are also fast, and everypony is afraid of them. If my middle name was Tyrannosaurus then ponies would be afraid of me and wouldn't boss me around.
I also have a brother named Shining Armor. Shining Armor is smart like a unicorn, but also strong and dependable, like an Earth Pony. Shining Armor says that species has nothing to do with what ponies are like but I think it may have some contribution to the personality. He is probably right though, because Shining Armor is the smartest pony in the world.
My father's name is Nightlight. We live on top of his shop, a large store where he sells very rare and special antique books, except he's not allowed to sell them until I read them, because that was the promise and my daddy always keeps promises.
I also had a mother, but she is not my mother anymore because she sent me to my room even though I didn't do anything wrong which is completely awful. She told me I needed to put my books down and go outside to play with other foals my age, even though all of the other foals my age are stupid and I hate them because they make fun of me because I am friends with the teacher and I stay inside and read during recess. I also sit alone during snack time because none of them will sit with me, but I am okay with that because it is quiet enough that I can read.
My mother is also awful because even though she is an author she will not let me read the books she writes because she says that I can't read them until I am older even though Shining is allowed to read them which makes no sense because Shining doesn't even like reading. So when she was having a nap I used magic that I learned from the best teacher in the world, Celestia, to open her bookcase and take the first book she wrote, which is called the Mare in the Moon.
It was about two ancient alicorn sisters that were the smartest in the world, but one of them turned evil and tried to put her sister to sleep forever so that she could be the only alicorn. But just when I was about to see who won the battle, my evil mother woke up and took it away from me and yelled at me and tried to get me to go outside, and then I called her a witch and she sent me to my room which is completely unfair.
So I have come to the decision that I am going to run away. I didn't before because Shining and Spike would miss me but they'd still have each other so they'd be okay, and Celestia would miss her best student but she has other students and a nephew named Blueblood that can be her next prodigy. I am going to sneak onto the train to Manehatten and live in a library and hide behind the bookcases when it closed, and then Mother would miss me and feel sorry that she yelled at me.
I already know that the police ponies will look for me especially hard because I am the prodigy of Princess Celestia and that makes me very very important to her, she has told me. If they find me then I will come back and Mother will be sorry and let me read the book and make me hot cocoa and we can sit by the fire. And Shining will come home from boot camp and my father will get done working early and we can fall asleep by the fireplace and tell bedtime stories.
I would like some hot cocoa right now.
And when I came back Celestia would give me less difficult lessons because even though I am the smartest 8 year old unicorn in all of Equestria she is giving me too much at once even though she is the best teacher in the world because she thinks I'm smarter than I am. When I came back I might be smarter and she will never know that I didn't used to be as smart as she thought I was.
It has started to snow outside and it looks like it is very cold. I am worried that the train to Manehatten will be canceled and I will have to sleep in the snow all night before getting on. Maybe I could wait until it stops snowing. I am feeling very tired and I think it might be better if I just... Wait until later to
Twilight wakes up, tucked in next to her brother in the living room. The fire is going and the electric lamps, a new invention that Nightlight is very fond of are off.
"Shining, the lights are off." She murmured, snuggling her head closer to the warm body next to her.
"It started snowing very hard and the power went out, Twilight." Answered a voice from behind her. She slowly tilted her heavy head around to look at her mother, who was sitting down a few inches away from her, leaning against Nightlight and wrapped in a blanket. "We have the fire going, though. You can read my book if you want. It's light enough."
Twilight looked at her mother for a moment, then turned her head to her belly. Spike was curled up nest to her. She smiled. "No thanks, mom." She lay her head down again and fell asleep to the sound of the snow whirling outside and the crackling of the warm fire, snuggled against her brother and Spike, and decided that she didn't have to run away.
