The Old and The New
Chapter 1
Load Full StoryNext ChapterI wake on the side walk with proper dressed ponies surrounding me. Some are whispering, others are standing with mouths wide open, while a small fraction of them seem to be examining me. I want them to stop. Now. I feel exposed and out of place, and have no idea where the hay I am. The brightly colored buildings, the fancy architecture, it all seems so unfamiliar. In fact, I don't know anything about any place, or anypony, now that I think of it! I have no memories, and no desire to have these ponies stare at me any longer. Feeling panicked and desperate, I send a burst of black magic in the air, then preform a take off and soar away on my wings. I need to get away. As I fly into the world beyond, I feel like I am flying away from the name that is stuck in my head. Luna.
All of those ponies starring at me... it just didn't seem right. I feel different. And I know I am. I think of various categories, to explain how I differentiate from other ponies.
Mental: I have amnesia, the medical term for memory loss. Well, I remembered the word amnesia. its a start. And the name Luna is stuck in my head.
Physical: Now this one is harder. I don't know exactly how I look, but I do know some things. My coat is a dark blue, but not bright. My mane and tail are black, jet black, and naturally wave, surrounded by some kind of translucent aura. I do not know what my face looks like, or the color of my eyes, but everything else seems to be normal. I have four legs, a mane, tail, wings and horn.
My head is literally jerked to the side as I experience a new word being slammed into my brain. Alicorn. A pony with wings and a horn; a princess. BAM! My head is jerked to the side once more. Equestria. Thats where I am. I'm glad to know a little more now, but I wish I could discover things without having my movement dramatically altered. Now that I moved over a few feet to maintain my original position, I continue listing.
Emotional: I easily panicked after appearing. I was also easily annoyed by my memory-slams, as I was beginning to call them. that suggests I have strong emotions.
"Well" I said, stopping to process my regal voice, which was elegant, but more low pitched than the mares I heard speaking in that city.
Canterlot.
Judging by my most recent memory-slam, I'm going to go ahead and call that city Canterlot.
"For a pony with weird amnesia, I sure can remember stuff pretty darn good." Great. I was now talking to myself, out of boredom. It is late day, and I have been flying for quite a while now. I could remember everything I flew over. I had seen a dark forest with strange creatures. I could relate to them, being a seemingly strange creature myself. Wishing to avoid ponies until at least tomorrow, I decided to settle on a cloud for the night. I just can't handle seeing ponies until I have more of a sense of myself, or at least a nights sleep.

My dream was blurred. It was of two ponies, one gray and the other the color of my coat. They were walked a few steps, side by side, and then there was darkness. There was more but it went by fast, quicker than anypony could fly or gallop. But they were close, so close. They were my memories.

"Yohooo. Mysterious sleeping pony? Your kinda in the way of my awesome cloud busting work. This cloud is gonna rain all over Ponyville, and thats not suppose to happen until Thursday. So you really need to move. Yohooo, sleeping po-...whoah"
The cyan pegasus with a rainbow mane and tail was obviously impressed when I stood up and streched my wings. She stood there and looked at me, wide eyed wither her mouth opened, just as the ponies did in Canterlot. This time I did not cower and flee at her reaction, but rather calmly asked in my most regal and commanding voice, "is there an issue?"
Awoken from her daze she replied "No, its just, your an alicorn! That's so co-o-o-l! I have to go get Twilight! Oh, I'm Rainbow Dash by the way." And with that she raced away from my cloud into the town below. I decided I wanted to meet her friend "Twilight," so I decided to stay on my cloud. She seemed important, but I couldn't think why.
"Curse amnesia" I muttered, before sitting down on my cloud. For a pony that could fly so fast, Rainbow Dash certainly was taking a while to get that friend of hers.

TWILIGHT SPARKLE'S POV
I was glad to be home with my new supplies of ink, quills and parchment. I had earlier received a letter from Princess Celestia, informing me that she had seen pure black magic being shot into the sky. The people of Canterlot had informed her an alicorn had appeared in a flash of light, then shot out the same evil magic she had spotted. The princess had asked me to search all around Ponyville for an alicorn or suspicious figure, and if I find them to contact her immediately. So I had been out looking for an alicorn. I am finding the whole ordeal ridiculous, as Celestia and Luna are the only ones capable of creating alicorns and they had not created her. Besides, if it had ran away so quickly, it would probably have been avoiding other towns. I was feeling snacky, so I entered the library to get food. As soon as I entered I was hit by a rainbow blur. "Twilight, I've been looking for you everywhere! There is an alicorn on this cloud above Ponyville! You gotta come see her! She looks like Princess Luna except her mane is black and her eyes are red and she's shorter. You totally have to come see her!"
I perked up when I heard that, thinking that maybe this search wasn't pointless after all. ''Ok, I'm coming" I called to Rainbow, and off I flew to meet the new alicorn on a cloud.
