PONIES IN ARMS-2. NUCLEAR WINTER

I have been in the EQNG now for about 10 years; I have seen a lot and done a lot in my life. I have been married to my wife for 1 and half years now. I am a father to a wonderful filly who now keeps me extremely busy. I wake up every day at 5am and go to work at my post, Mare Mar airbase where I am a private. Yes I know it’s odd, seeing all I have been through in my career one would think I’d be a general by now. I am however in charge of a unit all my own, my unit is in fact the very same ponies I went into my very first combat with. Rainbow Dash is still in charge along with her husband of Top Wing, the flying class she created to take all her top flyers to the next level. Anyways enough of memory lane, and me getting all nostalgic.

I woke up as I always do in the library next to Twilight who was already stirring due to having a not so restful night. "Good morning sweetheart, how did you sleep" she asked me. I looked at her and kissed her before getting up. “I slept great, all except for Melody's crying that is" "yes she cried a lot last night didn’t she" said Twilight. I got to work putting on my pt outfit and making coffee for us both. As usual she got up with me; tired as she was she would always do this it was our routine as it had been since we were married. Besides today was a day to be celebrated and a day of remembrance for all Equestria, it was the anniversary of the end of the war against the E.L.F, and we all had things to take care of. Twilight along with the other 5 ponies of harmony were going to Canterlot for a meeting with Luna and Celestia, and all of Ponyville was getting things ready for the ceremony at the Ponyville cemetery. I kissed Twi and told her I’d see her on the base later today, with that I went out the door.

I made it to work at about 6am just as Dash was getting the base into formation for morning pt, "AT EASE" Dash yelled out as I sauntered up to her and asked if everything had gone ok throughout the night. "Yup all’s well, no pony is missing and they all seem well rested" "Thanks Dash, how’s your husband doing these days haven’t seen him in a bit" "He’s fine just a tad busy with a class and training as of late, our colts and fillies are going to put on quite a show today along with the Wonder Bolts" "That’s great I can’t wait to see it, and to see you do another Sonic Rain Boom" I told her. Mare Mar was a big base and home to some 1,000 ponies not including civilians and other workers that were used as support, and we would all do morning pt together as a base. It was just easier to do it this way than having separate units doing their own thing, and it built base moral. The Pegasus ponies would do ground pt with us, then Dash would work them in the sky while we ran and did other things. It was a great system and we all enjoyed it, however today was different. We had a new batch of fresh from basic ponies who had just gotten in a few days ago and they thought they knew it all. Me and Dash were getting done chatting when Dash yelled out to every pony "AT EASE" they all snapped to and faced forward. I being like her second in command went to all the company commanders and did a quick check on the formations before handing control over to Dash whose husband was sauntering up to her. He had on his flight gear and was leading his elite class of flyers onto the runway for drills. I had nothing to do with Top Wing, it was its own thing all together so I just let him do what he was doing as Dash went to hug and kiss him. "OK EVERY PONY TODAY IS A SPECIAL DAY AND A BIG ONE FOR ALL OF US. LETS HAVE FUN DURING PT AND MAKE IT COUNT” I addressed the base. One pony out of the entire base said one thing. "WHY SHOULD ANY OF US LISTEN TO YOU, YOU’RE JUST A PRIVATE JUST LIKE ME" Before Dash could say a word I was in the pony’s face. "EXCUSE ME PRIVATE, DID YOU SAY SOMETHING, IM NOT POSITIVE BUT I THINK I HEARD A VOICE COME FROM THIS DIRECTION ASKING ONE OF THE DUMBEST QUESTIONS I HAVE EVER HEARD IN MY LIFE" The young pony looked at me in shock at being yelled at by a fellow private "HMMM PERHAPS YOUR NOT AWARE OF THE FACT THAT YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO SALUTE A PONY WITH THE EQUESTRAIN MEDAL OF HONOR, AND A HIGHLY DECORATED COMBAT VET" The poor pony looked like he was about to have a mental breakdown, and I felt a bit sorry for him, but couldn’t show it. I couldn’t very well let him get away with that comment and wanted to show every pony just who I was and what my place was on the base. After all of this I just told him that I was a highly decorated war hero who had been wounded several times in the battle for Ponyville including losing my right front leg and being shot 2 times one by a sniper, and the other by Trixie. He apologized for his comment and it was over.

We all did pt together and went on doing our own things. The 2 CMC that remained out of the original 3 were now a part of my unit and were part of the anti E.L.F counter Intel unit collecting all they could for all of us. They also were a very cool couple of fillies to have in my unit. Scootaloo could now fly and was now a member of a class of Top Wing. Sweetie Belle was also able to use her magic as well. After pt every pony went out to eat. Normally we would all eat at the chow hall, but today both I and Dash dismissed the entire base to eat anywhere they wanted to and to have some time with family before all the services began. I and Dash both went to the Sugar Cube Corner for a treat from our favorite place to eat. "Good morning Mr. and Mrs. Cake how are you doing today" I asked. "Oh hey Pvt Read were ok, just getting ready for today along with having Pinkie babysit the twins today for a bit" I went to look for Pinkie knowing that our daughter was also there with her. "There you are Pinkie" I said to the pink pony. Pinkie was now herself all be it a bit sore from time to time having been shot by a small caliber round in the flank but she was still the same Pinkie we all knew and loved and she would babysit for every pony now seeing as almost every pony had things to do on this day. "Hey Pvt Read how are you today? Your daughter is asleep right now. Twi just dropped her off like 3 hours ago" "Did Twi say anything to you like where we are all meeting for lunch or if we even are seeing as your hooves are full at the moment" I said to her. "Yeh, we are still meeting silly colt, why wouldn’t we? Aj is putting the final touches on the farm along with her new dog and Granny Smith. Rarity is busy in her boutique with orders from Canterlot and Fluttershy and her husband are at work at the hospital. Fluttershy said she’ll be there for sure. Oh and we are meeting in Canterlot by the way" Dash joined me and the pink pony, and the cakes for breakfast when a young mare wearing a postal uniform came into the bakery. It was Dinky Hooves, Derpy's daughter who had taken her mother’s place not only in the Equestrian Postal Service but the military postal service as well. We would all eat together from time to time and Dinky became like a second daughter to me and Twilight. Dinky was now a beautiful mare if only a teen, but still a great replacement for her mother. She had the ability to use magic seeing as she was a unicorn, and this often would come in handy to keep her from being bit by any dogs or hit by things thrown at her by some ponies who didn’t like her and her mom. "So Dinky what are you up to these days and how is school going for you" I asked her. "Oh same as usual just looking forward to seeing the princesses again, and being able to lay some flowers on my mom’s grave along with replacing that old tattered flag on her stone” I looked at her and almost forgot that I had the replacement flag she was talking about and handed it to her telling her I would see her later in the day and that I had to get to the base and meet with Twi.
