What If...

Rainbow Dash waited for her turn to fly in the annual Young Flyers competition. And Rarity was too, she came strutting out the dressing room in a brightly coloured dress and a really awkward pink mane style. Rarity blinked her eyes rapidly at Rainbow Dash and walked over.

"Well? What do you think of it?" Rarity asked Rainbow Dash, as she stretched her wings. Rainbow Dash looked at the announcer that was about to call the next contestant.

"Next up is, number twenty-five," The announcer pony said to all the pegasi behind the entrance. Number twenty-five was Rarity. It was her turn.

"Wish me luck!" Rarity exclaimed, as she flew out to the racecourse. Rainbow Dash nodded and stepped closer to the door to watch her friend compete.

Rarity sped through the course, doing a big finish up against the sun. The made a wonderful pose as her wings shone as she went in front of the spectators. All the pegasi watched as Rarity spread out her wings and made them light up like a rainbow.

But just when Rarity was beginning to get claps and cheers, her wings disintegrated, she began to fall down, down, down to the ground.

Luckily, the Wonderbolts were flying by and caught sight of Rarity falling from the stadium and began chasing after her. But with Rarity kicking and screaming, the Wonderbolts couldn't catch her.

"What's this? The Wonderbolts have came in and are going down to save contestant twenty-five!?" The commentator announced, as he stood up from his chair and looked down.

Rainbow Dash was watching the whole thing. She had to go and save her friend, before it was too late.

"Oh no! The Wonderbolts can't catch up with them!" The commentator shouted through his microphone, looking as shocked as Princes Celestia was, who was sitting and watching the whole thing.

"I've gotta go save Rarity!" Rainbow Dash said to herself as she walked forward to the racecourse entrance. But a hoof stopped her in her tracks.

"Sorry, you can't go until it's your turn," The contestant announcer said, standing in Rainbow Dash's way. The pegasus tried to push past the hoof, but she was too weak from all the fear of her friend.

"But, I need to save her!" Rainbow Dash exclaimed, trying to push through the mare's arm. Just them, two guards came up to Rainbow Dash to take her away from the stadium.

"Please, let me save her!" Rainbow Dash shouted, her eyes filling up with tears. She was now being dragged away from her friend that was close to having her life ended.

Rarity and the Wonderbolts were still falling down to the ground. They could've stopped, but it was because of the speed they were falling. If one of them tried to use their wings to stop flying, they would easily break a wing from the force of the wind below them.

The only sound was Rarity screaming, the stadium was silent...

*THUD*

"Rarity... Wonderbolts....." Rainbow Dash began to cry, and she could hear the commentator talking to the crowd about this incident.

"Oh my gosh folks, that's it... They're gone..." Everyone in the stadium looked down and took a moment of silence from the horrific event. But Princess Celestia just stood there, she could see Rainbow Dash being held behind guards and crying her eyes out.

A great friend and and a great idol had fallen...
