It was almost 7 o'clock, and already the sun had set early. This got all the ponies confused, as it was still the middle of summer, when the sun would usually set at around 8. However, tonight they were about to get even more confused....
At the Lunar Dish Diner in downtown Canterlot, everypony was in the middle of dinner. It was a Friday night, so the diner was all packed. Except for one table...
Everypony was enjoying their dinner when two royal guards walked in. What followed the guards amazed everypony in the room: Princess Celestia and Discord. The loving princess of the sun, having dinner with the fierce and evil lord of chaos. "That is soooo not right..." said one of the ponies in the diner. However, Celestia did ask for a seat.
"Table for two, please" she said.
"Right away, follow me" said a waitress, and she walked over to a table next to the front window. Discord and Celestia sat down. "Now, could I get you any drinks?" the waitress asked.
"Hmmmm" said Discord, "I would like... a... a..." Celestia was getting impatient. "a... a..." Discord continued hesitantly.
"Just order already" said Celestia.
"Ok, I would like a large chocolate milkshake!" said Discord. "and you, my sweet baby?" he said, turning to Celestia.
"I'd have a Vodka, please, in a glass, not a bottle. Thank you." she said.
"Right at it" said the waitress, and she walked away, going to get their drinks. Now Discord and Celestia had time to talk to each other.
"I hope we enjoy this dinner, my dear" said Discord. "I've been waiting for this for a long time now."
"I've been looking forward to this, too" said Celestia, with a bit of suspicion in her voice. "We haven't been together for a millennium. I hope you're nice like you used to be for this dinner tonight."
"Don't worry, I'll be good. I remember when we used to be such a loving couple together. Now we're finally back."
"Back after you were being a chaotic jerk and I had to freeze you, and then you were a chaotic jerk again, and I had to freeze you again, until you were reformed" said Celestia, and then Discord laughed. Celestia still seemed a bit unimpresses.
"I know, chaos is just my nature. Though lately I've been reformed and a prankster. Don't worry, I'm not pranking you in any way, for this is a very special outing tonight."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes, I'm sure."
"Ok, good. I want this dinner to be nice. Liek the dinners we used to have together when we were young. Remember back then?"
"Yes, I remember your pink, wavy, beautiful mane. Not that I hate your new one, of course."
"Yeah, and the sight of me made you stutter like crazy."
"Yes, y-yes, I kn-kn-know-kn-know" said Discord, and they both laughed joyfully.
"Those were good, lovely times. Wish I could enjoy them again."
"Well, you are. You can just tell how reformed I am by trying to repair our love for each other."
"Are you really that reformed? Wow!" said Celestia, impressed.
"Yes, I have been reformed to restore a long forgotten love between you and I."
"Awww, how sweet of you. A love that started when we were only fillies, and which was forgotten for so many years. You sure missed a lot while you were gone."
"Oh?" said Discord curiously. "Like what? What'd I miss?"
Celestia began to explain everything to him: The defeat of King Sombra, the banishment of Nightmare Moon, Queen Chrysalis's failed invasion, the death of Starswirl the Bearded, the education of Twilight Sparkle, the Sonic Rainboom, the restoration of Luna, the wielding of the Elements of Harmony, Queen Chrysalis's second failed invasion, the second defeat of King Sombra, and the restoration of the Crystal Empire, all of which Discord hadn't witnessed because he was trapped in stone for all those years. After explaining everything, Celestia said, "That's the end of my story. Well, the end of it so far. The story itself never ends."
"Aw, how sweet of you" said Discord, eating the footlong pastrami sub with cheese and extra mayo, along with a huge pile of french fries. All Celestia was having was potato salad, shrimp, and beans, but she could hardly eat it because she saw Discord chewing with his mouth open.
"Discord, please stop it. Do you have manners?" she said in disgust.
"I do" said Discord, "but they're not very good."
"Yeah, they're terrible."
"I thought this date was supposed to be nice!"
"Oh, sorry" said Celestia. "go on, please. I'll try to ignore and continue eating."
"OK" said Discord, and he continued noisily chewing with his mouth open. He also licked his finders instead of using a napkin. Some of the chewed up food fell out of his mouth too, but Celestia didn't seem to mind that. She was just happy to be having a romantic dinner with him, despite not eating the same thing.
"So, do you remember our first time meeting?" asked Celestia.
"Yes, I do." said Discord. "We met each other in a meadow as fillies. I thought you were oh so pretty, and I said hi and offered you a flower. And you took it."
"Yes, I know, I remember that very well now. You have just refreshed my memory."
"So then we used to get together often, climb up that tree and sit on the thickest branch. Too bad that tree doesn't exist anymore."
"Yes, I know, but I built Twilight a new palace. However, she still wanted her library, so she stole another tree from the 'Land of Ooo' and made it into the new Golden Oaks Library."
"The land of Ooo? I remember that place. That's where I dated that vampire chick."
"What vampire chick?" asked Celestia in surprise.
"Oh, nothing. Let's continue our conversation, ok?"
"Ok" said Celestia. "So, what else do you remember?"
"I remember when you and I got a little taller, and your pink mane started flowing in the breeze. And then your sister saw us kissing on the porch of the castle, remember that?"
"Oh, yes, very well. And then we went on vacation to a bunch of different places."
"I remember that. We went to the Crystal Empire, back when Sombra was king."
"Yes, that place seemed pretty depressing, but at least I had you."
"Yes, yes, I know. And then we visited the Changeling Empire."
"I remember that as well. We went to the mausoleum of King Metamorphosis, and we saw his body lying there in a glass coffin. I remember you saying that when we died, we would be laid next to each other in our own glass coffin."
"Yes, I know, I know, but we're both immortal."
"But what about that one time you got all upset when Master Lauren died? You were so sad because you thought she was immortal. I felt really bad for you, so I gave you a kiss and a box of chocolates."
"Yes, I remember that. And that's when I was given the responsibility of raising and lowering the sun each and every day, while my sister was given control of the moon. That was a time of change."
"I know it was, though we still loved each other dearly."
"We sure did. I remember you coming over to watch me lower the sun. You always said that it looked so pretty when I did it."
"I still find the sunset pretty."
"Oh, that's nice to hear."
"No problem. Then your mane turned multicolor, and that was around the same time that Luna's mane started to wave."
"You thought I looked so pretty with my new mane."
"You still do."
"Awwww, thank you."
"Yep, you still do. And you will be pretty in that way forever."
"I do remember you saying that I was the most beautiful pony you've ever seen, and that you'd love me forever. And I have to admit, I still think you're pretty hot."
"Oh, yeah!" said Discord, raising his eyebrows.
"Yes, yes, I know, handsome" said Celestia, laughing. "Too bad we can't rule Equestria together."
"You said that back then and it broke my heart."
"Yes, it broke your heart, and it also turned you evil, made you the lord of chaos, trying to destroy Equestria."
"I know, now I feel bad for that. And then you and your sister came to turn me to stone. That was the end of our love. But now it can begin again, now that I have you once more."
"And I have you once more too" said Celestia. Just then, the diner's jukebox played the next track.
"This song sounds nice. It really fits the mood." said Discord, noticing the music playing.
"Oh, why thank you! It really does!"
"I'd rather listen to Pantera, but this song still sounds lovely."
"I don't even know who Pantera is, but you're right about this song. Do you recommend Pantera to me?"
"I doubt you'll like it."
"Oh, ok" said Celestia, in the cutest giggle Discord had ever heard.
"Celestia?" asked Discord.
"Yes?" replied Celestia.
"I think you're beautiful."
"Discord, you're charming."
"And no matter who you are, if you're a horny pervert, if you're an annoying troll, or a pink plastic girl's toy, I still think you're beautiful. And I love you."
"I love you too" said Celestia, and with that, she wrapped her arms around Discord and kissed him on the lips. Discord wrapped his arms around her, and their lips sealed together and kissed, everypony else in the room watching, stunned by what just happened, stunned by Discord's change of heart. For now it was made clear that Discord and Celestia were in love again. They kept kissing throughout the song and ince the song ended, they stopped. And after that, everypony clapped.
"Oh, look at how happy they are" said Discord.
"I know. That felt great."
"I haven't felt your soft lips pressed against mine in over a millennium. Thank you."
"No, thank you."
"I think our love has been completely restored now" said Discord, and he reached into his pocket and took out what looked like half of a photograph. On that half was a picture of Celestia when her mane was still pink. She looked at it for a bit.
"Hold on a sec" she said, and then she disappeared for a brief moment and came back with the other half, showing Discord, who wore galsses back then. "Now we can put it back together." and with that, she used her magic to stick the two halves back together.
"Oh, that was taken when I was at the Royal University" said Discord. "I was studying physics."
"Yeah, so you could break its laws" said Celestia, and they both laughed again.
"I think I should get this picture framed" said Celestia.
"Yes, but for who?" said Discord, and then Celestia's horn lit up and a copy of the photo appeared out of nowhere.
"You can keep the original" said Celestia.
"Awww, I love you."
"I love you, too."
"And I miss you, too. I knew that someday we'd be back together."
"That's lovely. Now let's enjoy the rest of tonight, okay?" said Celestia. Then Discord put some bits on the table, and then they both got up and left the diner, ready to spend the rest of the night together.
Discord and Celestia walked out of the diner, ready to spend the rest of the night together. They hadn't planned something yet, so they tried to think of a place to go.
"Where do you suppose we should go?" asked Celestia.
"Hmmmm" said Discord, scratching his forehead. "I think we should go someplace peaceful and quiet."
"Oh, really? Like where?"
"Like here!" said Discord, and he snapped his fingers. Immediately the two were transported to the middle of a rave party. Vinyl Scratch was playing dubstep on full blast, while everypony was cheering, singing, and dancing.
"This isn't 'peaceful and quiet'! We're in the middle of a RAVE!" said Celestia in anger.
"Oops, sorry!" said Discord sarcastically.
"You did that deliberately, didn't you?"
"Yes, I did. Now let's actually go someplace quiet" said Discord, and he snapped his fingers again. Discord and Celestia found themselves in a construction site, with the loud noise of jackhammers and trucks.
"Stop it, Discord" said Celestia in disappointment.
"Ok, ok" said Discord, and he snapped his fingers again, this time transporting them both to a cliff overlooking Appleoosa. "There, are you happy now?"
"Yes, I'm fine."
"I hope that incident didn't ruin our relationship."
"Of course it didn't" said Celestia. "In fact, I though it was kind of cute!"
"Cute?" said Discord, "cute like this?" and he snapped his fingers and turned himself into some little dog girl creature. "I'm Dot Warner and I'm the cuuuuutest!" Discord said in a high and annoying voice.
"Stop that please, now" said Celestia, rolling her eyes. Discord changed back to his real form. Then he lay on his back, gazing up at the stars.
"Come join me under the stars, will you, my sweet honey pie?" he said, winking.
"Oh, why sure" said Celestia, and she lay next to him. They gazed at the stars, pointing out different constellations.
"There's Aquarius" said Discord, pointing up to the sky. "I'm an Aquarius."
"You sure don't seem like one" said Celestia.
"Exactly. I broke the law."
"Oh, well that makes sense. What else do you see?"
"There's Lauren Faust" said Discord, pointing to another group of stars. "Oh, and there's Ursa Major."
"Ursa Major?" said Celestia in surprise. "Let's get outta here!" she said, looking back to see Ursa Major running towards them. Discord jumped onto Celestia's back, and she flew away. Ursa Major looked up at them flying through the sky and roared. "Whew, that was a close one!" said Celestia.
"Your wings are so pretty" said Discord, stroking Celestia's wings as she soared across the sky at ten thousand feet. "You, know, it's nice to be flying on your back up in the air. I love the feeling of the wind on my face."
"I like flying too. I haven't flown for recreation in such a long time. This is great. I'm glad that we spent this night together, even though I couldn't trust you at first."
"Hey, look, I can see Manehatten from up here!" said Discord, pointing down towards the city's skyline. Even from up high they could hear the sounds of the city's night life. "And over there's Detrot!" he said again, pointing off into the distance.
"How do you like it looking down at Equestria from up in the air?" asked Celestia.
"It looks wonderful. You know what's even better? Looking up at Equestria from down in the air!" said Discord, and he snapped his fingers, suddenly turning Equestria upside down.
"Ok, ok, stop it" said Celestia, so Discord changed it back.
"I wish my wings could help me fly this high up. I haven't seen Equestria from the air before. Everything looks so tiny. You can hardly see anypony on the ground."
"I know, I doubt even the bravest and strongest of pegasi have flown up this high before. You and I, we just feel so... alone."
"I know, us two alone" sad Discord, stroking Celestia's flowing mane. "We should do this more often."
"Well we only have one night together. Tomorrow morning it'll all be over."
"I know, I think we should enjoy this night well. Like go to a party."
"I'm not going to a party!" said Celestia, giving Discord an angry look. "Let's just stay someplace quiet, like up here."
"Ok, ok, we'll go somewhere quiet. I still wish we could go to a party, though."
"Let's fly to the castle" she said, swooping down.
"No, not yet" said Discord, "let's have more alone time to ourselves."
"Ok, dear" said Celestia, and she soared down to some random place. In fact, they landed right in the middle of the Everfree Forest.
"This looks pretty nice" said Discord, looking around. "Let's take a walk, ok?"
"Sure, sweetheart" said Celestia, and they began to walk through the forest. They weren't afraid of the forest at night, like everypony else was. As long as they were together, they would be ok.
"Ever been in the Everfree Forest at night?" asked Discord.
"No, but I've seen it at night from my balcony. It doesn't look special, really, even though there are parts that claim to be unexplored."
"Don't worry, I know this place very well."
"You've been all over here before?"
"Well I created it, silly. Remember when I threw those seeds on the ground right before you turned me to stone?"
"Oh, that was all your fault." said Celestia, rolling her eyes again.
"I know, I just wanted to have a little fun. Maybe we can have some fun now!" said Discord, and all of a sudden, thorned tentacles stretched out from the ground and grabbed him and Celestia.
"OW!" screamed Celestia, but Discord put his hand on her mouth.
"Don't worry, you won't get hurt, I made these appear, so it doesn't hurt as bad."
"Well it still is annoying."
"Can we just cuddle in here, please?" said Discord, stroking Celestia's chin.
"No, please put us down."
"As you wish" said Discord, and he snapped his fingers again, making the tentacles disappear. They both continued to walk through the Everfree Forest until they finally found their way out of it.
"Okay, our walk is over now" said Celestia. "May we please go back to the castle now?"
"Sure thing, pal" said Discord, and he jumped on Celestia's back. She took off and flew towards Canterlot. When they got there, Discord pointed down to the palace's outdoor swimming pool. She swooped down and landed on the pavement around the clear blue pool of water that smelled of chlorine. "Let's take a seat down, shall we?" said Discord. They both sat together on two deck chairs.
"This is so quiet and relaxing" said Celestia. "I think I should be getting ready for bed soon."
"Just give us a little more time together, alright?" said Discord, taking sunglasses out of nowhere and putting them on.
"Ok, twenty more minutes."
"While we sit here, I want to give you a little treat" said Discord, holding out his fist, clearly holding something that was a surprise. This made Celestia a bit suspicious of him again.
"Are you playing another prank on me?" said Celestia in suspicion.
"No, it's a sweet" said Discord, and he opened his fist to reveal a piece of bubble gum in his paw. "You can have it."
"Sure" said Celestia, and she licked it up from his paw and put it in her mouth, chewing it. Discord liked the feeling of her tongue brushing against his paw, it tickled a little.
"Don't chew too loud, ok?" he said.
"Don't worry, I won't, sweetheart."
The two lay on their chairs for about ten minutes, looking up at the stars in the night sky and listening to the quiet and slight rippling sound of the pool. After about ten minutes, they walked up to the palace's balcony and sat there. "Time is running out, my dear" said Discord. "Let's just make this the loveliest ten minutes of the night, before we go to bed."
"Ok, Disco" said Celestia, still chewing her gum. She blew a bubble, and Discord popped it with his teeth. She chuckled a little. Discord smelled her breath.
"Hey girl, you know what your breath smells like?" he asked.
"Ummm... bubble gum?" said Celestia.
"No, it smells like love" he said, and then he wrapped His arms around her and kissed her again. As they were kissing, they heard somepony walking up the stairs.
"Sister I broke the toi-" said Luna, walking onto the balcony to see her sister kissing her arch-enemy. "What are you doing, sis?" Luna asked.
"Oh, it's just a re-enactment" said Celestia, and she and Discord continued kissing.
"Oh, yeah, I remember that. Back before I was Nightmare Moon." said Luna, and she kept watching them kiss. Discord turned to Luna with a look of embarrasment on his face.
"A little privacy, please?" he said, so Luna walked back downstairs. After kissing for a few more minutes, Discord and Celestia walked down from the balcony to the royal bedroom.
"Can we sleep together?" said Celestia, giving Discord a seductive look.
"Oh, sure, heheh" said Discord, blushing. "But will you spit out your gum first? I don't want it getting stuck in your gorgeous mane overnight." Celestia spit out her gum into a wastebasket and walked over to bed. Discord followed. They both jumped into bed, Discord wrapping his paw around Celestia's body and placing his claw on her chest.
"Good night, Disco" said Celestia, closing her eyes.
"Good night, Tia" said Discord, and he turned out the light. As he lay there trying to sleep, he felt the calm beating of Celestia's heart as she slept. The relaxing feeling made Discord fall asleep as well, and they slept together for the rest of the night like lovers do.
