"one thousand years ago there lived two princesses, one raised the sun to bring the day (Celestia) while the other raised the moon to bring the night (Luna) the two sisters maintained balance throughout Equestria. One day however, Luna noticed that the children played only in the day and slept through the night so she sought to bring about eternal night so that ponies would see her beautiful moon. Celestia, however, was against such an idea and attempted to use powerful objects known as the elements of harmony to banish her sister to the moon, but her attempt failed, for Luna was connected to the elements just as Celestia was. In the end, Luna used her dark magic to banish Celestia to the moon and took on a new name... Nightmare Moon." the pony that had been reading out loud smiled as she read the history of her mentor. Midnight Defiance thought about what she had read for a moment before grasping another book in her orange magic and bringing it over. Ancient prophecies was on the cover. "I'm sure I read something about Celestia's return somewhere." Midnight said as her magenta eyes scanned the pages of the book until they came upon what she was looking for. "On the thousandth year, during the Lunar Eclipse, the stars shall aid in Celestia's escape and she shall bring about the day once more." one thousand years ago that wouldn't sound menacing, but for Midnight it was possibly life threatening as the day hadn't occurred since Celestia's banishment. Growling in annoyance, Midnight brought over a quill and parchment and wrote a letter to her mentor, Princess Nightmare.

Dear Princess Nightmare
I've recently review the Ancient Prophecies and I've found that this coming Lunar Eclipse will be the thousandth since Celestia's banishment, The prophecies state that on the thousandth year, during the Lunar Eclipse, the stars will aid in Celestia's escape. This is very bad news for, after one thousand years without the sun, I fear that to bring it out again would be possibly life threatening. I request permission to aid you in defeating her again once she returns.

Midnight Defiance

Midnight rolled up the parchment and used her magic to set it alight. The parchment burned in a black flame before the ashes headed out the window of the Ancient Castle of the Royal Pony Sisters and headed for it's destination. It wasn't long before she got a reply as one of the Shadowbolts flew in.
"The Princess wishes to see you now." the Shadowbolt, named Dark Dash, said.
"On it." Midnight said as she teleported to the throne room.

Midnight bowed respectfully to Nightmare before speaking. "You wished to see me Princess Nightmare?" Midnight asked.
"We're alone so you're free to dispense of the formalities." Nightmare said.
"I wasn't sure if we were alone." Midnight said.
"It's okay, but spending all your time reading really isn't."
"Then what should I do Moony?" Midnight smiled mischievously at calling her mentor such a childish name.
"I'm sending you to Vamponyville to oversee the preparations for the Lunar Eclipse, and to make some friends." Nightmare said.
"Outsiders other than you are not allowed."
"Yes, unless they agree to get turned." Nightmare smiled evily
"Then I've got a vampony only town to go to now don't I?" Midnight wouldn't say it in front of Nightmare, but she had always wanted to be a vampony.
"Indeed you do."

An hour later, Midnight was at the borders to Vamponyville awaiting the mayor.
"What is it that you want outsider?" the Mayor asked as she came up.
"I'm Midnight Defiance, I'm here to oversee the preparations for the Lunar Eclipse." Midnight said.
"Are you willing to be turned?"
"I am willing to do anything to help Princess Nightmare Moon, so yes."
"Good." the mayor lunged at Midnight and sank her fangs into her neck. Midnight almost instantly passed out.

Midnight awoke sometime later in a small room with a mirror and a glass of blood. Midnight first checked herself over in the mirror. She still had her dark purple coat, her dark red mane and tail with their medium and light red stripes, her mane and tail were still styled exactly like Twilight Sparkles (even though she didn't know who that was) though it was a little messy now from sleeping. "This actually looks good on me." Midnight said as she carefully brushed her mane to leave several stray strands in it. Midnight took note of her now glowing red eyes and that she still had her normal cutie mark, a red six pointed star with a slightly smaller black six pointed star that had been rotated ninety degrees and appeared to be behind the red one, she also had five smaller black stars around them. Where's my fangs, oh wait, they're retractable. Midnight thought as she opened her mouth and unsheathed her new fangs, taking note that all her teeth were sharper now as well. After re-examining herself, she levitated the glass of blood over to herself and drank it. "Tastes like oranges, I guess different ponies have different tasting blood." Midnight said as she took her checklist out and left the building. "First off, food preparations at Sweet Apple Acres. hmm and it says that the pony I'm to talk to is also the best punisher in Equestria." Midnight smiled at that prospect and headed for her first destination.

Midnight calmly approached Sweet Apple Acres and entered before going over to a dark orange earth vampony. "Hello I'm Midnight Defiance and I'm here to-" Midnight was cut off as the earth vampony spoke.
"I'm Defiant Shadow, you must be here on orders from Princess Nightmare." Defiant said.
"Ah you're the one I'm to talk with about food preparation, and according to my notes, you're the best punisher around."
"Indeed I am, well we have everything ready to go for food so you should be on your way." Midnight nodded and took note of Defiant's appearance before leaving, she liked to remember those she had to speak with in case Nightmare wanted their appearance. Defiant had a dark orange coat, her mane and tail were purple and styled like Apple Jack's without the bands holding it up (though of course they didn't know who Apple Jack was) and was messy, something Midnight suspected was common with vamponies. Her eyes were the same glowing red as any vampony's and her cutie mark was three apples with poison dripping off of them. Midnight also took note of the whip around her wast, which had spikes through most of it except the handle.
"next up is weather, which according to my list is handled by the commander, a Night Blood. hmm, don't the shadow-" Midnight wasn't able to finish as the pony in question slammed into her and the two went rolling for a bit before stopping.
"Sorry." Night Blood said.
"It's fine, but what isn't fine is that you haven't cleared the skies just yet, I take it you're Night Blood." Night got off her.
"Yea, how'd you know?"
"The Shadowbolts talk about you a lot."
"Really!" Night flew several feet in the air from the mere thought that the Shadowbolts spoke of her.
"Mostly about your obsession with them, they haven't said anything about your flight ability yet."
"Oh I could show you some of my moves and you could tell he Shadowbolts."
"Not until I'm finished with everything I came here to do, and you finish clearing the skies." Night dashed off to do just that and so Midnight headed for her next target, though she did go over Night Blood's appearance in her head. Night Blood had had a dark blue coat with a mane colored like an inverted rainbow and styled like Rainbow Dash's, though a bit messy. She had had the bat-wings of all Pegasus vamponies, the fangs even though they were retracted, and the glowing red eyes of any vampony. her cutie mark had been a storm cloud with and inverted rainbow colored lightning bolt. She had a lightning bolt shaped sword strapped across her back in a way that prevented it from interfering with her flight, there was sparks of lightning arcing off of it. "Next is decorations, done by a Blade Hex. hmm it says that she's also a skilled poison and potion brewer as well as an armor crafter." Midnight said after checking the first two things she needed to check on off her list.

Midnight soon showed up at Carousel Boutique, where Blade Hex worked.
"Yes?" a black unicorn vampony asked as she came in.
"Hello I'm Midnight Defiance and I'm here to check on the decorations for the Lunar Eclipse Celebration." Midnight said.
"You mean the Midnight Defiance, the same Midnight Defiance who defeated seven manticores and became Princess Nightmare Moon's personal student?" the Unicorn was clearly a fan
"It was only two manticores and they were a little distracted, yes I'm Princess Nightmare Moon's personal student."
"Sorry, I get like that sometimes when around powerful unicorns, I'm Blade Hex."
"Good, so how are the decorations coming along?"
"Great, I'm having no trouble with designing them, even though the Princess had a rather specific order."
"Nightmare get's that way." Midnight said, then realized something.
"Oh sorry, I'm use to calling her by name." Midnight said to the white maned unicorn.
"It's fine." Blade Hex spun around and went back to work, multiple spools of thread flying around her and encased in an ocean blue magic aura. Midnight took note of the three red diamonds that were Blade's cutie mark before she left for her next target. Midnight also noted the two blades infused with paralysis poison at Blade's sides. "Okay next on the list is the music, which is conducted by-" she froze when she saw the name.

Trying to keep herself calm and not impossibly happy, Midnight approached the cottage at the edge of the Everfree Forest and soon spotted her best friends and the music conductor, Blazing Moon. Blazing Moon's coat was gold, her mane was blue with light blue stripes and styled like Fluttershy's, her cutie mark was three black butterflies with red circles on their wings. She had the normal features for a Pegusus Vampony, bat-like wings, glowing red eyes, and fangs. Blazing Moon suddenly saw her and tackled her to the ground.
"Midnight, what are you doing here?" Blazing asked happily.
"I should ask the adopted daughter of Nightmare Moon the same question." Midnight countered.
"Oh, well I just got bored of the castle so I came here, I was a little hesitant on being turned though."
"I wasn't, now as to why I'm here. I'm actually overseeing the Lunar Eclipse Celebration and came to check on the music, you can imagine my shock when I found out that it was you I was going to be checking on."
"Well the music's doing great, so do you have anything planed after leaving my territory, because I was thinking about having Shadow Death throw you a welcome to the pack party, she's the local party planner."
"Actually I have to talk with the local hit-pony first, since we obviously need protection for such a large event, especially since it's the thousandth year."
"Right, this is the night that Celestia is to return and bring back the sun." Blazing shivered at the thought, she shared Midnight's concern about how the sun would affect ponies that hadn't been in its light for a thousand years. Midnight nodded and checked her list as she got up.
"Would you mind coming with me to talk with the local hit-pony?"
"How come?"
"She's Shadow Death."
"Oh right, I almost forgot."

Sugar Cube corner was certainly not the place Midnight would expect a hit-pony to live.
"Welcome to Sugar Cube Corner, how may I help you?" a red earth vampony asked as she popped up from behind the counter.
"I'm looking for Shadow Death." Midnight said.
"Oh, may I ask what you want her for?" the vampony asked.
"I'm Midnight Defiance, The Princess sent me here to oversee the Lunar Eclipse Celebration, oh and don't hide the fact that you're Shadow Death, Blazing here is my best friend and she already described you on the way here." Midnight said.
"Very well, what did you come here for?" Shadow Death had a red coat, her mane was flat, messy and pitch black. Her cutie mark was three balloons, two black and one purple, all of them had skull and cross-bones in them. She also had a scythe strapped across her back.
"Well I came to request a welcome to the pack party for Midnight, and she's here to speak with you about your other hobby." Blazing Moon said.
"Oh, come with me into the basement Midnight, Blazing you write down Midnight's preferences." Shadow said as she led Midnight to the basement.
"So then, the Princess needs the local hit-pony to aid in protecting her for the celebration?" Shadow asked after they got to the basement, suddenly serious.
"Yes, she request it be secretive, but she wishes you to be on complete alert, and not to attack Celestia if she returns, only the rebels that will likely show themselves upon Celestia's return are to be killed immediately. How much will it cost?" Midnight asked.
"Nothing silly, I do this for fun, not for bits." Shadow said, becoming energetic again before literally vanishing with a pop. Midnight looked, confused, at the spot Shadow had been moments ago before shaking her head and going to Golden Oaks Library, which was where she would be staying for the time.
