Chapter 1: A few years later

“Remove from me, my identity
Take what separates me from others
Cast me out
Banish me from the freedom of being different
Make me suffer as you remove what’s important
Tell me I’m nothing-“

Lines of poetry are inscribed crudely on a concrete wall. Dried blood stains the walls where the poetry is written, making it stand out slightly. A tan colored pony cowers in the corner, shaking profusely. Her matted crimson mane, a mess around flittering eyes that scan the cell she is in. Her ink blue eyes dart to every shadow, scan the walls, and gazing out into the darkness past the iron bars. Above the poetry is a name, “Painful Poetry.” Now this isn’t her real name, the name she was given by her mother, Owl Quill, and her father, Inkwell. No, her actual name was Poetic Love.

As a filly, Poetic Love was joyful and happy. She went to school with the other fillies and colts. She was never called “Blank Flank” by the mean fillies and colts. She had lots of friends and was well known for her way with words and breaking up fights with poetic justice. It was actually in the schoolyard, just after she broke up a fight between a unicorn colt named “Gears,” and another colt named “Piston.” They were both machine shop born ponies, with parents that always had grease on them and smelled like metal. This argument was over who had built the best car. Poetic stepped in and said some words of friendship. A crowd had swarmed around her as she made her best speech yet. When she said her last word, an image of a heart shaped inkwell with a quill sticking out of it appeared on her formerly blank flank. The crowd of young ponies gasped and gawked at the sight of a cutie mark formation. At the end of the day, Poetic pranced home, excited to show her parents. But her excitement was short lived.

Walking down cupcake lane, she stopped in the library where she found Princess Twilight. Knowing who she was, she slowly walked up to the purple princess, encased in a cell of books. She peered behind a smaller stack and saw her. “Princess Twilight? Hello...” She stammered quietly.

Twilight nodded her head absently and waved her hoof in hello. “Yes… Hello there…” She muttered.

Poetic, crestfallen, backed away only to bump into a rather large stack of books. Thud, thud, thunk! The stack of books tumbled down, hitting the floor around the pony then on her head, knocking her out.

Her eyes flittered as she awoke. Princess Twilight stood over her, a worried expression on her face.

“Oh, my little pony! Thank goodness you’re awake!”

Poetic sat up slowly and rubbed her throbbing head. “Owie…” She frowned and looked up at the worried princess.

“Let me help.” Twilight offered and touched her horn gently to the filly’s head. A light purple light flashed for a brief moment then faded. The throbbing disappeared from Poetic’s head and she smiled gratefully.

“Thank you Princess Twilight!”

Twilight smiled and helped her up. “I’m sorry to have ignored you, young filly. I was studying and had gotten to an interesting part.” She laughed, embarrassed.

“Oh, it’s fine! I just wanted to show you my new cutie mark!” Poetic said with glee, happy to have attention from royalty.

“Well, turn around and let me see.” Poetic turned to her side and moved her wavy, crimson tail out of the way. Twilight looked closer and inspected the new cutie mark. She slowly recognized it and she turned pale. She coughed awkwardly and smiled for the little filly. “That’s a lovely cutie mark. What’s your name?” She said, hiding her fear. Poetic turned around and smiled widely.

“Thank you! My name is Poetic Love!” She replied with glee.

Twilight gulped in fear and her eyes widened. She shook herself from her fear for the little pony and smile. “Well run off to your parents and show them your lovely cutie mark!” She said with false happiness.

Poetic turned around and dashed out of the library. “Thank you!!!” She called as she ran out.

Twilight slumped against a book case. “I must speak with Celestia… I thought this could have been avoided when I killed her…” she muttered to herself quietly. She returned the books and teleported to Celestia’s castle. The large white princess was in a quiet conversation with her sister, Luna. “Ahem. Princess Celestia?” Twilight interrupted.

“Yes?” Celestia looked up at the fellow princess and instantly sensed her fear. “Come with me.” She said quickly and nodded her sister away. She walked with Twilight down a long hall and looked at her. “What is it, Twilight?” She asked uneasily.
Twilight looked at her former mentor and gulped. “It’s her. Poetic Love. She has received her cutie mark as of today.” She informed Celestia of her run in with the filly.

Celestia stopped in her tracks and looked at the princess hard. “Are you sure this is the filly?” She asked quietly but urgently.

“She has the heart-shaped inkwell and quill. It has to be her.” Twilight nodded and grimaced. “She… She’s alive isn’t she?” She asked, hoping it wasn’t true.

“Somehow… She did survive… And she will wreak havoc again.” Celestia said gravely and looked at Twilight with a horrified expression.
