Chapter 2

The town was nearing the travelers sight as Twilight Sparkle and Princess Rarity walked on and on in the rain. At first it was just a little drizzle but as time went on it had become a raging storm.

"How much longer yet?!" Rarity shouted over to Twilight who flew a little higher to see if danger came.

"I don't know. The rain is too thick!" Twilight answered, "But I think I saw something that looked like shelter a little off from here!" Twilight continued. "Come!" She grabbed Rarity by her hands and flew carrying her so they could reach shelter faster.

The shelter was in fact a barn. Old and shabby, yet somehow comforting.

"Hello? Anybody there?" Rarity asked her voice echoing on the walls.

"I guess it's empty." Twilight shrugged and stepped inside.

Haystacks covered the walls and a slight stench wavered in the air. "Is this really abandoned?" Rarity asked. "It's still so, new and un-abandoned..."

"I know right?" Twilight said looking around.

"Yes... So empty yet... Full." Rarity sighed.

"What are ya'll doing here?" Asked a southern accented voice.

"Who's there!?" Twilight jumped around to face a little girl with pastel red hair and amber eyes.

"What is a high elf and a goddess doing here?" The girl asked. "You'd think they'd be much more comfortable in their pretty little castles and comfy beds, am I right?"

"Well, you see—" Twilight was interrupted by another southern accented voice.

    "Applebloom? Is someone there?"

"Sure is! A high elf and a goddess!" Applebloom sneered.

At that moment Twilight stomped her right foot on the ground and a black force field rose out of no where.

"I knew it." A blond girl had stepped in to the room. "It wasn't enough for the elves to make us rot with no money," She said with her eyes on Twilight. "They have to—" She stopped when her eyes moved form Twilight to Rarity. There was something about her, she wasn't afraid that she might die in a few minutes. She hadn't even pulled out her wand that she could see was in her pocket. She was... Different.

"Wait." The other elf whispered. "We're not here to destroy, steal or murder!" She continued with a louder voice.

"Twilight is right, I can't watch people starve to death while we eat ourselves fat, it's just disgusting." The high elf said.

"How do I know I can trust you?" The blonde asked.

"She means how do we know we can trust you, right Applejack?" Applebloom said crossing her arms over her chest.

"No, I mean I, you're still too young Applebloom." Applejack said serious.

"Come on! I managed to sneak up on them and still nothing? I should have earned a locket of love for that." She humphed.

"My name is Rarity, I only want good for my people, I cannot just stand there while you die!" Rarity said. Something about Applejack made her want to tell everything.

"There's no place for elves here! Get out of our sight!" Applebloom commanded.

"Now, now Applebloom, let's not be impolite, I think they're really here to help." Applejack said eyeing the elves.

"Are ya out of your mind?" Applebloom screeched.

"Maybe I am but. I think we should trust them. They would come with an army if they were going to conquer the lands. Besides they look weak and hungry, just like us."

"Fine!" Applebloom stomped out of the room with her head up.

"Thank you so much Applejack!" Rarity sighed with relief. "Here." She threw the bag of gold coins at Applejack's feet when Twilight had lowered the force field.

"If ya were here to help why'd ya use that?" Applejack asked pointing at Twilight who was still unsure and holding a black magical shield to protect her.

"Safety reasons, I've seen what you can do Applejack." Twilight answered, not lowering the shield.

"Ya'll got magic, ya should be able protect yourself without a shield." Applejack answered pointing to the ruby encrusted wand you could clearly see in her pocket.

"The shield's magic, I can protect myself." Twilight answered lightly.

     "Ahaah..." Applejack rolled her eyes.

"Why do you believe us?" Rarity asked changing the subject.

     "Because, you're different." Applejack shrugged.

"AJ? Applebloom said you needed to talk to me?" Came an unlikely high pitched voice asked from the door.

     "One second Pinkie!" Applejack answered.

"Applebloom said there are elves there! I can hear the hesitation in your voice!" Pinkie said. "I'm coming in!"

A pink haired teen stepped in to the barn. "All right elves! I'm giving you one chance to get—" The rest was blocked by her gasp. She had laid eyes on that goddess, oh how pretty she was!

Twilight opened her eyes wide at the sight of the curly haired murderers, she was so, determined and... Lovely. Wait, what was she thinking? She must have been extremely tired, thoughts like that.

"We are going to let them stay, right?" Pinkie asked unsure. "They seem so... Nice."

"Couldn't agree more, they seem so trustworthy." Applejack smiled.

Rarity and Twilight shared confused looks. A warm fire had lit inside Twilight when she had heard Pinkie stand up for her safety. Rarity on the other hand felt like she was on fire herself when Applejack had laid trust on her.

"Thanks for the money sugar." Applejack said picking up the bag. "This is going to help a ton."

Before Rarity could answer a shout came from the roof:

     "Flutters! You're awake!"

"Oh for Pete's sake! Is everyone gathering her tonight?" Applejack climbed to the roof only to be even more surprised by what she saw than when she met the elves. "Rainbow Dash? What are you doing her with Fluttershy?" Came Applejack's annoyed question.

"We escaped the elves! But Fluttershy fell down and hit her head, she can't really move." Rainbow Dash answered.

"Well she won't feel better in the middle of the night on the roof of a barn!" Applejack stated.

"I was about to go down but you didn't give me enough time missy!" Rainbow Dash snapped.

"Please Rainbow... I'll pass out soon again." Fluttershy whispered.

"Quick we must get her down before she passes out again!" Rainbow Dash took Fluttershy in her arms and flew down to meet Pinkie Pie and her guests.

"What are those elves doing here?" Her voice was as cold as an icicle.

"They're her to help! Trust me!" Pinkie said stepping closer to Twilight.

"Elves? Here to help us? Please! Elves are the reason Fluttershy is in this state now!" Rainbow Dash raised her voice.

"Trust me! They wouldn't harm a hair on Fluttershy! They weren't responsible!" Pinkie said stepping in front of Twilight and spreading her arms. "You are not laying a finger on them!" Pinkie Pie said with flames in her eyes.

"What's gotten in to you Pinkie? You killed an elf tonight and now you're acting like your life depended on their safety!" Rainbow Dash humphed.

"Pinkie is absolutely correct about us helping you! I hate my life as a goddess, no more fun with friends! Just war and murder!" Twilight snapped at Rainbow Dash. How dare that stupid avian say she was responsible for the hurt of someone she didn't even know? She couldn't have been happier of Pinkie standing right there protecting her.

"Fine, fine! I'll keep an eye on you two!" Rainbow Dash pointed at them.

"It's going to be a long time to spend here with her." Rarity said shaking her head towards Rainbow Dash.

"You bet." Applejack sighed and ignoring Rainbow's protests carried Fluttershy into a cozy looking house in the center of the farm.

As soon as they stepped in Rarity forgot all about the coziness. The house was a mess. She could barely hold her gasp as she looked at the dust piled on top of the book shelves and tables. Surprisingly, Applejack suddenly felt embarrassed when Rarity was walking beside her in the messy house. Pinkie on the other hand was using her hair to wipe the dust away, Twilight was a goddess and clearly used to better treatment, she couldn't see that Pinkie was living in a dusty old barn. Rainbow Dash just humphed at Applejack's and Pinkie's behavior, she had Fluttershy to worry about why should she even try to help the elves?

Rarity tried to smile but she really didn't feel like doing so, it was a grimace more likely. Twilight giggled like a little girl at the sight of Pinkie dusting with her hair. Pinkie smiled back from the top of a bookshelf and nearly fell over.

"Okay, this is ridiculous!" Rainbow Dash exclaimed when the hair-dusting and the smile-grimacing had been going on for and hour or so. "What's wrong with you Pinkie? And what about you Applejack?" Why do you suddenly care about dust when elves are around?" She demanded.

"It's not the elves!" Applejack said. "I've been tired of living in a dirty home for a long time! Why would I suddenly care for elves?"

"Exactly Rainbow! I want to live in a clean home for once!" Pinkie said. Twilight tried hard not to sigh, she thought Pinkie was special and cared for her. I guess I was wrong, she thought. Rarity tried hard not to burst into tears and sobs, Applejack had seemed so nice but she had probably just faked it so they would help them out of the complex situation.

"Perhaps we could help you clean?" Rarity offered as they walked into the kitchen.

"Like we need an elf to help us clean." Applebloom said from the stove.

"Applebloom, like I said, be polite!" Applejack said rolling her eyes.¨

    "Can we help?" Twilight asked.

"What kind of hosts would we be if you had to clean?" Pinkie said laughing and putting her arm around Twilight. Twilight moved away, she didn't want Pinkie to fake it any longer, it wouldn't be fair if she had to fake it.

"Let us help! It would be better!" Rarity said enthusiastically.

"Sure, why not." Pinkie sighed, hurt from Twilight's move.

"Oh come on! Am I the only reasonable one here?" Applebloom cried out angrily. "Letting and elf help. Crazy!" She muttered to herself.

"Let's divide the chores," Applejack said, "Rarity and I will do the dusting and the dishes, Pinkie and Twilight can do the laundry and the cooking and Rainbow Dash can help Fluttershy get better.

"Sorry to interrupt but all four goddesses are meeting tomorrow when the crescent moon shines, I have to go to that meeting and explain the situation, it might help the situation." Twilight said.

"I guess you'll have to go to that meeting then." Pinkie snapped not even trying to make Twilight feel better about the situation. "Besides how is cleaning going to get us anywhere?" She humphed.

"Because we'll be more prepared and comfortable to murder or fight when we don't have to do it dirty." Applejack explained but in her heart she knew it was just to spend more time with Rarity.

"Right! How come I didn't think of that!" Applebloom rolled her eyes.
