Almost a century ago, after the defeat of King Sombra, the Socialist States of the Crystal Empire was formed.

Failing to beat Sombra, Celestia's army bid a hasty retreat in order to save it's tail, leaving the crystal ponies to fight for themselves. The ponies of the empire were horrified and outraged to be left behind.

Nevertheless, the great ponies of this nation banded together to fight against incredible odds. They fought long and hard, seemingly keeping the conflict at a stalemate.

It wasn't until the great hero Glitter Freeze outsmarted Sombra that victory was ensured. Glitter Freeze saw through all of the dark king's puzzles and traps, and eventually located the long lost Crystal Heart. The re-discovery of the heart ensured Sombra's downfall, and served to unite the ponies of the Crystal Empire further.

Angry at Equestria's abandonment, the crystal ponies decided they were better without them, and set forth to build a civilization where ponies worked together for the betterment of everypony, and everypony was equal.

This led to the longest war in the history of Equiis. A war of words, espionage and secrets. The SSCE and Equestria are constantly at each other's throats, politically speaking, both left bitter and angry by the split.

Now, the two nations are in a race. A technology race, an arms race, a social race, both trying to prove they are better than the other. Essentially, and less eloquently, a dick measuring contests of national proportions. In order to be in the running, both sides are constantly attempting to 'sneak a peak' as it were, at what the other side is doing, and how to beat them at their own game.

This is where our story begins.
