Chapters The shadow filly watched the pink pony bouncing up and down the hallway without a care in the world. It was odd seeing a color other than black, gray, or anything of the sorts. She passed a giant doorway and then backing to it again. She hummed a merry tune and went through the doorway. After she went through, a giant piece of the castle roof fell off and smashed the ground exactly where she wast just standing. The pink pony continued to skip as if nothing was wrong.
“Drats!” sulked another shadow “That’s the third time and I still haven’t smashed her!”
“Come on big sis! I hate how you always play tricks on ponies!” The younger shadow pouted.
“Whatever. I’m going to go pull some more pranks! There are five other ponies in the castle!”
“But-”
“I’m not going to let your weird niceness to ponies ruin my fun.”
“Will you-”
“Five ponies! Nopony ever visits this castle! I just want to do a couple of harmless pranks!”
“What about-”
“Please! This castle is so boring! Mom never let’s us go out!”
The shadow filly sighed in defeat, “Fine, but it has to be harmless pranks!”
“Yeah yeah, I’ll do that! Now, some pranking has to be done!” With that said, the elder shadow flew off.
The younger shadow sighed, it was hard being a shadow. She drifted through the halls, unaware of where she was going. A couple yelps of surprise and every so often a scream of terror showed that her sister was up to work. Before the shadow filly knew it though, she was in front of the library, and she would’ve kept going if she didn’t hear something about shadows.
“Spike! Would you believe this book! It says ridiculous stuff! Like shadow ponies! An alicorn named Faust! Gods named Hasbro! A necklace that turns shadows into ponies! Pigs being cooked into something called bacon!” A purple alicorn exclaimed, mad that such silly stuff was in a official book, to a purple and green dragon. It was the second to last thing that caught the filly’s attention. Something that could turn her into a pony? Could it exist? What would she do if she- “Listen to this! It says that if you put this necklace that was in the book on a shadow pony, it will become a pony!” The purple alicorn said, interrupting the filly’s thoughts. On the the alicorn’s hoof rested a thin, golden, chain with a black flower at the bottom. The alicorn carelessly flung it to the other side of the library, the necklace landing with a small *clink*.
“I dunno Twilight, it could be worth something, don’t you want to have Celestia check it out first? It could be something really important.” The baby dragon asked.
“Oh Spike, I’m sure it’s nothing to get worried about. It’s probably just a hoax, besides, dark shadows or shadow ponies don’t exist.” The alicorn said confidently, unaware that there was a shadow pony right behind her intent on getting that necklace. The shadow filly creeped up the edge of the room, staying near the dark so her black shadow body would go unnoticed. Somehow, she managed to slip on a opened book, landing with a giant *CRASH*. The dragon yelped, curling up into a tiny ball. “T-T-Twilight? W-w-what was th-th-that?” He stuttered.
“Oh Spike! This is a really old castle, it was probably some of the roof falling somewhere.” Twilight chided, unworried about what was happening elsewhere in the castle. The alicorn’s words did nothing to soothe the scared baby dragon, who just curled into a tighter ball. Twilight continued reading her book, obvious fear that the baby dragon was feeling right now. “This book also has
“W-w-when can we g-go?” Spike asked/stuttered. The shadow filly immediately felt bad for scaring the baby dragon out of his wits, still, she had a job to do. She slowly inched over to the necklace, sending bugs scurrying every which way. The filly slowly and carefully reached out her hoof to pick up the necklace. So close, she thought excitedly, thoughts of her pony form flashing through her head. “T-t-twilight?! W-w-whats th-that!?” The baby dragon fearfully exclaimed pointing to the shadow. Fudge, the filly thought, my goose is cooked.
The Mare of Shadows was just trying to have a nice sandwich when she felt the magical aura of the cursed thing. Her first reaction was to swoop in and just take thing wretched thing and be don with it, but then again, who knows who has that amulet? (Amulet sounds like omelet, I'm so good at jokes). Just hopefully none of her daughters had gotten their hooves onto it. Last time that happened, she had nearly died!
Suddenly the aura of the necklace got much more powerful. It was blissful feeling as much as it was scary. The Mare of Shadows flew all over the castle, finally landing on one door that (she hoped) held the amulet in it. The door flung open, showing her youngest daughter being lifted off of the ground.
"Daughter! NO!" The Mare of Shadows cried out.
Then, in a giant burst of light, her daughter fell onto the floor. But this time, her daughter was a pony.
The Filly of Shadows first thing that she thought when she woke up was, Wah? Where am I? Wheres Mom? And why do I feel weird? Then she remembered what had happened. The giant flash of light, her Mom yelling for her to stop, an obnoxious purple alicorn. Wait a second, there were three alicorns now? Next thing you know, theres going to be four alicorns.
"Mom?!" The filly called, and yelped when a shadow with imposing yellow eyes came into her view. Then she gasped, her mom looked... Scary! Was this why all the other ponies that ever visited the castle always so scared? Because she looked like this? If only she'd known.
"Ca y u ear me?" The Filly of Shadows could only hear snippets of the whisper that her mom was saying.
"No. Mom I'm scared. I thought I would still be able to hear you." The filly said worriedly to her mother. Just then, the sound of loud footsteps came from the hallway.
"I bet we're going to get our Cutie Marks in being brave." Declared one of the ponies that were walking outside of The Filly of Shadow's hiding spot.
"Nah, ah bet that we're gonna get our Cutie Marks in adventuring!" The second disagreed with a southern accent.
"No! We're going to get a Cutie Mark in treasure hunting. I mean look at this place! It's full of EEEEEKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THE MARE OF SHADOWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" The third shrieked. The filly of shadows resisted face palming. Why could nopony ever tell the difference between a full grown shadow pony, and a teenager shadow pony.
"Quick! HIDE!" The first yelled, and the next thing the filly knew, three other pony fillies were tackling her.
"Close the door! Close the door!" A white unicorn yelled, terrified.
The Filly of Shadows looked around somewhere that she could hide, and spotted a coat rack. She dove under the rack, dislodging a finely embroidered cloak to land on her. Then the filly prayed to everyone holy for the three crazy fillies to just leave her so she could try to turn back into a shadow. Even though it was her drew, being a pony was scary!
"Who are you?!" An orange pegasus exclaimed, pointing at the filly's hiding spot. Fudge . They saw me.
"Wow! That's ah pretty coat!" A light yellow earth pony told her, pointing to the cloak that had fallen onto her when she went underneath the coat rack.
"Are you hiding from the shadow pony to?" The white unicorn asked.
"Um, yeah! I think that the coast is clear, you guys can go now!" The Filly of Shadows said awkwardly.
"But don't you want to come with us? It'd be better if we traveled in a group." The unicorn pointed out.
"Um, no. I'm fine."
"But at least tell us your name. Ah'm Apple bloom."
"I'm Scootloo."
"And I'm Sweetie Belle."
As the three fillies told The Filly of Shadows their names, The Filly realized she didn't have a name. And she was pretty sure that "The Filly of Shadows" was going to suffice as a name. Her big sister always called her Little Sis or Sister, and her mom just called her Daughter. As The Filly thought, she came up with the perfect name.
"Well, my name is Shadow Light."
"How do you do Shadow Light! It's great to meet ya!" Apple Bloom said happily, giving Shadow Light a very very strong hand shake. "So what are you doing in the Castle of the Two Sisters? We're here to try to earn out cutie marks."
The question took Shadow Light by surprise, who were the two sisters? She decided to do a little fib. "I was here exploring! Um, I heard about the amazing..." She trailed off, looking around the room for something that would be suitable for her fib, then she saw her sister flickering in the corner,"Shadow pony! Yeah. Arn't they supposed to be cool?"
Shadow Light felt her cheeks light up as Apple Bloom, Sweetie Belle, and Scootloo all stared at her like she was nutty. Scootloo was the first to speak,"What are you talking about? The Pony of Shadows is not cool, cause' she's evil. And there's only one shadow pony." Scootloo eyed Shadow Light suspiciously. "Besides, why would you even look for some old foal's tale that doesn't even exist?"
"She isn't evil! I know that for a fact!" Shadow Light just couldn't help herself, her mom was not evil! Why would anypony think that!
"Yeah she is!" Sweetie Belle squeaked.
"Why do you think that?"
"Because! She's the leftover dark magic from Nightmare Moon's banishment!"
"Who's Nightmare Moon?"
Shadow Light wanted to scream at the question she had just asked, they were staring at her again ! But seriously, who was Nightmare Moon, and why did her name sound so familiar?
"Your not from around here, are you?" Applebloom asked skeptically, raising an eyebrow.
"Uh, yes?"
"Okay, but still! How can you NOT know who Nightmare Moon is. It makes no sense!"
"Sorry." Shadow Light sighed as she scuffed her hooves at the ground, she knew that she wouldn't be able to make friends, they were all probably not going to like her because of how dumb she was.
Sweetie Belle was about to open up her mouth to reply, but then a giant scream cut off what she was about to say. Everypony's, except for Shadow Light, eyes widened in fear. The same thought swimming through the three fillies on the quest for their cutie mark, who was that? And why did they scream?
"Ah think that we should probably get out of here!" Applebloom shivered,"Ah think that their might actually be a Pony of Shadows Shadow Light."
"Theirs no such thing as the Pony of Shadows. Besides, even if their was a Pony of Shadows, it would be too scared to even come out and face us!" Scootloo boasted. Another scream ripped through the quiet air. Scootloo's eyes went wide and she leaped all the way to the ceiling, no wings used for help.
"Yeah, because the Pony of Shadows will be sooooo scared of a cat." Sweetie Belle teased.
"Hey! No fair! That scream came out of nowhere!" Scootloo defended as she fluttered down onto the ground.
"Whatever you say. Cat."
"I'm not a cat!"
"Are to."
"Are not."
"Are to."
"Are not!"
"Are to."
"Are NOT!"
"Are to!"
"ARE NOT!"
"ARE TO!"
"ARE NO-"
"Uh, how bout' we stop arguing about if Scootloo is a cat, we should probably get out of the castle." Applebloom tried to suggest.
"What? We're leaving already?" Shadow Light asked already, leaving the castle seemed almost terrifying.
"Well why wouldn't we? It's getting dark out, and those screams are really freaking me out." Sweetie Belle asked, done with her petty argument with Scootloo.
"Yeah, and Ah'm getting a little more convinced that the Pony of Shadows is real." Apple Bloom added.
Then, the door suddenly creaked open. Everypony, but Shadow Light, failed to notice the teenage shadow pony. The remaining cloaks rustled. Nopony had touched them. Then there was heavy breathing. Everypony huddled into a tiny group. Shadow Light knew that it was her sister, and that she would never hurt anyponies, but everpony else seemed to like to do it.
"Ah'm scared!" Applebloom cried, tears forming.
"Me to!" Sweetie wailed.
Scootloo stayed silent, her eyes wide. Then, Shadow Light's big sister revealed herself. It was obvious that she hadn't heard about Shadow Light's transformation. Her big sister then lunged straight towards the tiny group.
