Cold Heart, Colder Walls

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

Dead awoke, she was on a small bed in a stone cell. The walls were gray and no decoration was on them, a single window that was barred was letting sunlight in and the cell had a sink with a mirror above it. Dead got up and moved over to the cell door. A single guard was positioned at the door. Not to guard those captive but to make sure they weren't forgotten. Dead could feel a suppression field limiting her magical attributes.

A few hours had past and the guard had swapped with another, no words were said. Dead had no idea how long she had been out cold however the sun was high in the sky. "Hey!" Dead called to the new guard as she stuck her hoof through the bars and waved it. "You there!" The guard ignored her and remained still. "Hey! How long have I been here?" Dead asked, but got no response. Dead turned back and hopped back on the bed, she let out a long sigh and pulled the covers over herself with what little magic she had. Within moments she had drifted into a slumber.

"Alright Rarity, gezz chill out." Rainbow said as once again Rarity had pelted her house with rocks. "I'm coming!" Rainbow shouted as another rock flew into the cloud she called home. Rainbow emerged from her cloud and flew down to a mad looking Rarity. "Whats the rush anyway?" Rainbow asked Rarity as she landed next her.

"Have you really forgotten? We have to go to Canterlot." Rarity said with a huff.

"Why do we need to to Canterlot?" Rainbow asked.

"Wow, really Rainbow? You really, really forgot?" Rarity sighed. "And to think the other day you were being rather unladylike to her."

"Oh Dead! Yeah I knew that... I was just teasing you... Yeah lets go with that." Rainbow rolled her eyes as they both headed towards the train station.

When they arrived at the train station only Twilight and a few bags were there. "Where are the others?" Rarity asked.

"Well Pinkie had a code seven delta... Apparently. Fluttershy didn't want to come because she was worried Dead would attack her animals for some reason. And Applejack has a whole week of work to do today or else they miss harvest session." Twilight said sounding slightly disappointed. "I had hoped they would come but... It looks like it will just be us three."

Dead awoke a second time, the loud whistle of the train leaving the station was enough to wake her from her slumber. The sun had not moved from its position in the sky and the only major difference in her cell was that a plate with oatmeal in it had been placed within the cell. Dead quickly ate the small portion of food before sighing, she turned her attention to a mirror that was place above the sink in her cell. Dead quickly raised her hoof and punched the mirror, causing it to shatter into a thousand tiny peaces.

"Why must I be here! Why won't somepony come down!" Dead shouted as she pulled her hoof back. "I don't want to be forgotten..." A more calmer Dead said as she slumped to the ground.

The train was running late, as always. Rainbow had suggested several times that she fly over to Canterlot to let them know they were coming. However Rarity had thought that it would not be a good idea to risk Rainbow being alone with Dead. As the trio boarded the train the conductor checked their tickets and let them on board. Rarity stowed her bags and sat down. "How long do you think it will be until we arrive?" Rarity asked as she took one of her bags down and sorted through its contents.

"At least an hour, and that is hoping that there is no cattle on the rail." Twilight sighed. "I can't believe that Luna just took her away. And that she is all alone in some dungeon."

"Don't worry about her," Rainbow interrupted. "She is strong and will be able to tough it out. I mean come on, she summons skeletons! A few days in a dungeon won't do her any harm."

"I suppose. But still I don't like it." Twilight said quietly. "We have to try our best once we get to Canterlot. We can't let her down!"

"That's the spirit!" Rarity called out.

Dead was sound asleep. Or she was, the sound of hoofs slowly stepping down the stairway woke her up. Dead looked up expecting to see a guard coming down the stairs. It was no guard, instead Celestia. Or who Dead thought was Celestia came down. Dead could have sworn last time they met she was a little larger. However after a quick eye rubbing Dead was sure she was not going insane.

"Surprised to see me?" Dead said mockingly as Celestia regally walked in front of the cell.

"Dead, I knew someday you would turn up here. It was only a matter of time." Celestia always spoke calmly.

"If you knew I was alive why did you not send anypony to get me? To arrest me." Dead spoke with a negative tone.

"I can understand, you are angry. You don't think you should be here..."

"No I do. I understand. I am a abomination, a crime against nature. I defile corpses and other untold taboo."

"But you don't. You are nothing like that. You are just misunderstood. I can see that."

"You think I'm that shallow? You think you can just say a few words and it will make all the pain go away?"

"It is not something I have come to the conclusion of overnight. Try a thousand years."

"And what makes you think I have changed?" Dead asked quizzically as she leaned against the bars.

"Your actions speak far louder then your words."

"Oh so I saved a few ponies from a monster. Big deal."

"You saved your friends or as you put it. 'The ones you love'"

"Hmmp. You think you have me sorted don't you?"

"If by that you mean I think you don't belong in a cage, then yes." Celestia said confidently as she undid the locking mechanism and opened the cell doors.
