Dead in civilization
Emotional Duress
Previous ChapterNext Chapter"Dead, I'm not some filly at a school." Rarity stated as she refused to sit down.
"And yet here you are. In the office of a teacher." Dead grinned. Dead leaned back slightly and her head moved into the darker section of the room. "Now Rarity, are you going to tell me what is troubling you?"
"As I said Dead, nothing is troubling me. I don't know what you expect to achieve with all this." Rarity slowly started to back away, just before she reached the door it gently shut. "Dead. Open the door." While to any other pony Rarity would be perfectly normal, Dead could see the small tells.
"Not until you tell me what the matter is Rarity, the others may not notice it. But I do. We have known each other properly for, about a week. And I know you have known the others for longer. But all that has gone is given you time to adjust. Time to change your tells so that they don't notice."
"Honestly Dead, I don't know what you are on about." Rarity flustered, trying desperately to hide her nerves. "Just let me go."
"Not until you tell me. Look you can tell me, or we can starve to death in here." Dead said flatly.
"What do you want from me?" Rarity half screamed. "Dead! Just let me out! If you let me go now I will forget about this whole thing!"
"But you came to me, you asked the tender where I was. You came to me." Dead got up and walked around her desk and over to Rarity. She gently place her hoof on Rarity's should. "Rarity, you are hurting. Just tell me." Dead locked eyes with Rarity and gave a sharp stare. Rarity's eye were soft and pleading.
"Dead, please. I don't want to go over this. Just let me go." Rarity disengaged her eyes from Dead's. she turned away and faced the floor.
"Alright Rarity, but this won't go away. I will always be here to talk to..." Dead opened the door and Rarity walked out. Once Rarity left Dead shut the door. Rarity slowly walked away from the white door. She turned and faced the door and sat down. Once she was certain Dead could not hear her she dared to speak.
"That's what I'm afraid of..." Rarity sighed. She got up and started to walk around the castle.
"So you're a ghost?" Cadance asked.
"Yes..." The tender hissed. "Now if you please...." The tender started to fade away.
"But! I have so many questions!" Cadance called out, causing the tender to fade back.
"Very well ask..." The tender sighed.
"How old are you?"
"I forgot after five thousand years..." The tender sighed a second time.
"Oh okay.. I guess you don't remember much about your life then." Cadance sighed and her head dropped.
"Sadly, no. I serve the creatures that come to this castle."
"What is this place?" Cadance asked after a brief pause.
"This is where they teach the art of necromancy, and all its sub schools. Would you like to know anything in particular?"
"No that's okay, you can go now." Cadance said and the tender vanished quickly. Cadance then dropped her bindings that were holding Twilight underneath her bed spread.
"You know, Cadance. I don't think I can bunk with you if every time a ghost show up you shove me under the covers." Twilight said.angrily as she emerged from the covers. "I felt like a dirty secret..." Twilight scolded as she sat on her bed.
"Oh I'm sorry Twilight!" Cadance jumped onto Twilight's bed and pulled her into a bear hug. "Can you ever forgive me?"
"I-I-I URF!" Twilight gasped for air. "If you let me down!" Cadance complied and dropped Twilight onto the bed. "T-Thank you..." Twilight said as she gasped for air.
"Sorry Twilight, this whole necromancy thing had got me excited. The whole concept of a forbidden magic that only a few ponies know about is fascinating. I mean, everypony knows about Discord and his chaos magic, Sombra and his shadow magic and even changelings and their love magic!"
"I resent that!" Nazz yelled out from his room.
"Sorry!" Cadance shouted. "But as I was saying, nopony even knows about necromancy. Its a myth. We were lucky that I was able to seize all the book on it before ponies started taking them out!"
"Uh-huh... So you like necromancy because nopony know about it? And that why you took all the book on it out of the crystal achieves?" Twilight said as she rubbed her head with her hoof, trying to understand why Cadance would do something so silly. "Alright Cadance. I give up. I don't understand you at all right now. Now I'm going to go to sleep. If I wake up and you're wearing purple robes..." Twilight trailed as she fell asleep on the bed.
"I am so glad I learnt that sleeping spell!" Cadance exclaimed as she jumped off the bed and into the hallway. Cadance stampeded through the hallways and followed the markings that pointed her into the direction of the library. Just before Cadance reached the treasure trove of books on the forbidden magic she stopped.
"Cadance?" Rarity said as she noticed the pink alicorn go into an emergency break. Cadance stopped and faced Rarity, her eyes darted over Rarity's body several times before she came to an conclusion.
"Rarity!" Cadance said as she wrapped her hoof around Rarity. "How are you doing?" She asked happily, giving Rarity a chance to come clean."
"Oh I'm fine!" Rarity said as she let out a nervous chuckle.
"Mmmmhhmmmm... So who is it, and how can I help?" Cadance asked with a sinister grin forming.
"Why can't you just leave me alone!?" Rarity snapped. "I am fine!" Rarity quickly brought her hoof over her mouth and silenced herself. She slowly moved her hoof away. "Sorry Cadance..."
"Its alright Rarity, you just need to tell somepony about it. The worst thing you can do bottle it up, your next explosion might be more volatile." Cadance let Rarity go and proceeded into the library. "Come on Rarity, we can talk about it."
The library was abuzz with activity, tomes flying off one bookcase only to land in another. Skeletal attendants sweeping the floor. Candles glowing with a bright white flame kept the huge room lit.
"Wow and I thought the crystal empire's library was huge! This is amazing!" Cadance exclaimed. "Twilight would love this place, its a shame I had to put her to sleep for the night..." A ghostly tender appeared.
"Welcome to the library," The ghost took a long gaze at the pair. "Guests of Lady Dead. I regret to inform you that the achieves are unavailable as of now. A untold skeletal horror escaped and is currently running rampant in the elder halls." The ghost smiled. "Sorry for any issues caused by this matter." And before either of the pair could respond, the ghost vanished.
"Huh, that's odd. I could have sworn the elder halls were open earlier. Never mind.." Cadance sighed. A magical tome flew above her and she caught it in her magical aura. She pulled the tome down a read the title out loud. "Bone-weaving for dummies. A beginners guild. Well I got to start somewhere. But before I do, Rarity..."
"Its Dead." Rarity said bluntly. "I am in love with her."
"That great!" Cadance cheered. "But what seems to be the problem?"
"She already has a special somepony..." Rarity admitted. "I was working with Rainbow to figure out what her preferences were, however it backfired..."
"You could have just asked her, I'm sure she would have told you."
"You may not believe it, but Dead was not always as confident as she once was." Rarity sighed. "Then I did something stupid and it ended with Dead being alone..."
"I see, go on."
"A mare who was passing by picked her up and took her out for tea the next day they were dating. While I was being wary about how to act around Dead I completely missed my chance altogether." Rarity turned her attention to the floor before bring her gaze back up to Cadance.
"Hm, sound like quite a predicament. Have you told Dead yet or even tried?"
"I think she knows..."
"But have you told her? She may know, but not be acting on it. Dead seems like one of those ponies... Y'know, they love to love..." Cadance found herself rolling her eyes. Once again Twilight's friends had made the simple matter of saying I love you into something that may cause the very world to end.
"I don't think she would do that to Ditzy, they have been close since they got together."
"Yes, but she values you as a friend right?" Cadance rushed out.
"Yes she does, if she knew what has happening she would leave. Not because she doesn't like me, but because she doesn't want to hurt us..." Rarity sighed.
"Has she shown any signs or indications that she wants to help?" Cadance placed her hoof on her chin and rubbed it furiously.
"I trying to tell her earlier, we were in her office. She knew something was up and locked the door. But I argued with her and managed to get her to let me out without saying a word." Rarity sighed. "Cadance, can I tell you something?" Rarity looked Cadance in the eyes.
"Of course Rarity!" Cadance said happily.
"Can you keep it a secret? I need you to promise... Pinkie promise me that you won't tell another leaving soul, or dead soul for that matter." Rarity smiled slightly towards the end of her sentence.
"My lips are sealed Rarity, now do tell."
"I fantasized earlier... In Dead's office." Rarity admitted shamefully. "I Imagined that she would storm in to the office, throw me onto the desk and then..."
"Okay Rarity, I think I have heard enough. Its not that I don't want to hear anymore. I'm just worried about what might happen if I do..." Cadance gave Rarity a wink that caused Rarity to blush slightly.
"I wish I hadn't thought about it. When she came in through the door I froze. I stumbled and completely shoved the matter aside. I had the perfect opportunity to tell her, but I didn't... If I could just go back now, I would tell her everything!" Rarity said as her confidence started to arrive in boatloads.
"Oh why didn't you say so!" Cadance clapped her hoofs together. "Tender!" A ghostly tender appeared and looked at Cadance.
"You called?" The tender said in its ghostly voice.
"Yes, is Lady Dead still awake?" Cadance asked, Rarity was too stunned to say anything.
"She is... I can feel her presence in her office. Shall I take you there?" The tender asked.
"Not me, but Rarity here. And don't let her tell you otherwise!" Cadance instructed. The ghost looked at Rarity its ghostly horn lit up. A bright flash blinded Cadance and when she regained her sight she was alone. "Time to do a Twilight!" She announced to the library.
Rarity's world spun, when she opened her eyes she was lying on the floor. Rarity quickly got up and scanned her surroundings. The candles that lit the room up, the well kept desk and the small bone chair were all indications of where she was. Rarity closed her eyes, her head still spinning.
Click!
The familiar sound of a door being bolted. Rarity slowly opened her eyes, she saw a set of hooves move behind the desk. Rarity slowly started to get up.
"Take your time. The teleport spell can leave you... Dizzy to say the least." Dead sounded calm. Her voice put Rarity at ease. While she had sounded hostile before; trying to force Rarity to tell her, now she sounded softer. Rarity slowly got up and placed her hoof to the desk to steady herself. She fell back on the small chair behind her and sat down in it. The candles danced elegantly in the room and gave it a warm cozy feeling. Once Rarity was sat steadily Dead spoke. "So Rarity, what brings you down at this time? Any particular reason?"
Rarity gulped, the confidence that she had built up started to ebb away. She swallowed her fear and spoke out. "Y-yes their is. I tried to tell you earlier, but I couldn't" Rarity paused and tried to see Dead's reaction. Dead nodded for Rarity to continue. "Dead I don't think I can do this..."
"Its okay Rarity, I'm not forcing you to do anything you don't want to." Dead's calm voice stirring a warm feeling in Rarity's chest. "If you want some help, just say."
"Thank you Dead. But I think I can do this myself." Rarity felt her confidence surge. "You know Dead, when you first moved to Ponyville you spent the night in my house. You were drunk. I let you sleep in my bed that night, because you couldn't sleep still and the sofa would not have been suitable." Rarity took a deep breath. "What I never told anypony, was that when you were sleeping... You cuddled up to me..."
Dead opened her mouth to speak, but then shut it abruptly. She gave Rarity a go on motion.
"You must have turned in your sleep or something. But I woke up and you had your hooves around me. I knew back then that you had no idea what you were doing, or what it meant... But I never wanted you to let go. I still don't. Ever since that day I have wanted to be with you... I tried with Rainbow, to work something out. I let my feelings get the better of me, and I ruined something that could have worked. However that gave you Ditzy. I deserved that. I..."
"Rarity, you never did anything to deserve a fate like that." Dead said solemnly. "I know you well enough to know that all you do is try and do the best. You rarely ever think of yourself. As you are probably aware, I knew how you felt. I told Ditzy how you felt."
"You what!?" Rarity barked back.
"I asked Ditzy for some advice, she has been in a relationship before. I asked her what I should do, seeing as you were hurting yourself so that I could be happy." Dead shook her head. "Ditzy said I should do what I have to. She knew what it was like to love someone but not have them return the feelings."
"She..." Rarity trailed.
"I asked her if she was certain about it, I didn't exactly want to cheat on her. I knew that if I told her she would understand. Believe it or not, Ditzy know a lot about romance, she claims it comes from the experiences she has had. And from a few romantic novels I have seen around the house."
"So what you're saying is that Ditzy know about my feelings?"
"Yes, and she is happy for me to return them, just as long as I give her the love as well... The way she put it, never mind."
"You are say that Ditzy said it was okay for you to love me?" Rarity quickly spoke sounding concerned.
"When you say it like that it sounds like I'm doing something bad..."
"Its not bad... So to say, just rare. Not many ponies would have more then one partner..."
"Rarity, I've been alive for over three thousand years. I have only been experiencing friendship, love and other emotions for... A week now? I don't know everything. Let alone the ins and outs of it."
"I suppose you are right Dead, I'm not going to complain..." Rarity sighed.
"Why?"
"Because its more then I deserve..."
"But its not! You deserve so much more! You keep treating yourself like dirt, its not right!" Dead starting speaking with passion. "All you ever do is give, give, give. You never take or anything, how nopony has seen this remarkable quality and swept you off your hooves amazes me." Dead stoop up. "I just don't understand it... I just don't. The living confuse me..." Dead slumped back down. She let out a large sigh as a silence overtook the room. After a few minuets of silence Rarity spoke out.
"Dead, why do you beat yourself up over me?"
"Because, I don't want you to hurt. I can see it, sense it. I know its stupid but I can tell, read the signs. Three thousand years living with hard to read skeletons can do that. You have to look for the little things." Dead sighed, she unbolted the door with her magic. "You can leave if you want I won't keep you here."
Rarity remained seated.
"Honestly, you can go. I'm not going to slam the door shut on your face or anything." Dead sighed as she shut her eyes.
Rarity remained still, refusing to move from her seat.
"If you plan on staying here all night I can turn the heating on, the mountain is built under a geothermic vent. All I have to do is move some bones and the room will warm up."
Rarity was as silent as she was still.
"I'm sorry I went off the hook their Rarity... But I care about you, I care about you a lot. And when your hurting, I hurt... I can't explain why, and I care little for the feeling besides wanting it to go. The only way I can do that is helping you... In whatever way I can." Dead opened her eyes.
Rarity smiled at Dead. "Anyway you can?" Rarity smirked. "Tell me, have you and Ditzy ever... Been interment?"
Dead's mind traced around, slowly she pieced together what Rarity meant, she shivered slightly. "Would you rather go someplace privet?"
Rarity's magic shut the door and locked it. "Here is fine, but you never answered my question."
"Twice..." Dead slowly replied.
"Second question, are you aware and comfortable of what I am implying?" Rarity asked innocently, gently batting her eyelashes at Dead. "I don't want you to be uncomfortable..."
Dead considered what to say. "That doesn't matter..." Dead trailed off. Rarity's magic started to undo the locking mechanism, however Dead's magic canceled it out and the backfire left Rarity with a slight headache. "Rarity, leaving is out of the question. You have made your intention clear. Just because I didn't answer your question doesn't mean you have to stop."
"Its not right Dead, its wrong." Rarity said as she tried to undo the lock, however Dead placed a warding spell that prevent Rarity from opening it.
"Rarity, we are in a castle that is maintained by the skeletons of the dead. The souls of the lost act as tenders to those who show up. What is right and wrong is lost..." Dead sighed.
"Dead please, I don't want to do this." Rarity stomped her hoof on the ground.
"You did five minuets ago. What changed?"
"Its not the same if you don't want to. I love you Dead, I don't..."
"Enough Rarity, stop thinking about me. Think about what you want."
"But I don't want this! This is wrong and disgusting!" Rarity snapped, she attempted to force the door open with her adrenaline. The force she imparted on the door flew back at her and threw her to the floor. "Urgh..." Rarity groggily said, Dead got up and walked over to Rarity.
"I'm sorry Rarity..." Dead pulled Rarity up quickly cast a spell causing Rarity to become hyper alert. "I'm so sorry..." Dead passionately locked her lips with Rarity's, Dead's horn lit up and charged Rarity with energy. With a sudden burst of energy Rarity pushed Dead to the floor and gave into a very primal instinct.
Next ChapterI hate to admit it, but this was always going to happen. I just needed a good point to inject it... Uh yeah this will either work really well... Or the dislike bar will rise sharply and people will stop leading or like it?
Anyway this is at the bottom because I used the authors note at the top. Sorry this went on for so long. And uhh I stayed up past midnight writing this...
