Night 3: Just Another Night (Part 1)

Previous Chapter

12:00 A.M

Night deeply breathed, his body slowly rising up and down with each breath. In darkness of the room comforted him like a veil. Melted ice cream soaked his clothes, leaving a crusty dry mark behind. He continued to snore, his face planted on top of the dirty floor.

Unbeknownst to him, Chica and Bonnie watched him sleep. “What do you think he’s dreaming of?” Chica asked. A few seconds of silence passed. Bonnie wasn’t sure if that was just a rhetorical question and kept quiet.

Minutes passed, letting a little quiet analog tick on in the silent room. “How do you think sleep feels like?” Chica asked. Again, Bonnie kept quiet. Another few minutes passed again.

12:10 A.M

Chica and Bonnie studied his peaceful sleeping face. His mouth was open and his eyes were relaxed. This time, Bonnie was the one to talk. “Do you think we were ever like them?” she asked softly.

“Us?” Like them?” Chica replied back. She squinted her eyes and raised an eyebrow. “I don’t think so. Why do you ask?”

“I’m just asking, that’s all,” Bonnie said, bringing her knees close to her chest. Her face turned red. “I just… feel happy when I’m with him.” Chica smiled and replied that with a nod. “I don’t feel happy when I’m up on that stage.” Bonnie stared at her metallic mechanical hands. They pulsed softly with light before dimming down. “I don’t feel like myself when I play.”

“Shouldn’t we be happy that it helps father when we play?” Chica said. “After all, we have to play so we can least stay in the city like this. He said that this is the best place to stay for all five of us.”

Bonnie nodded her head and scootched closer to Chica. Chica took notice of this and moved closer as well. “Even though I’m a bunny and you’re a bird, we’re still sisters, right?”

“Hey, we’re both made of metal and father created us. Of course we are.”

“Huh? Who’s talking?” Night Watch groaned, raising his head.

Chica bawked like a chicken before smashing the back of his cranium.

12:56 A.M

Bonnie and Chica sat on the stage in awkward silence before the bird spoke up. “Don’t tell anyone what happened, okay?” she pleaded softly. Bonnie slowly nodded, but Freddie’s voice spoke up behind them. “About what?” he asked, his face suddenly appearing next to theirs.

Chica began to profusely sweat. “Oh, nothing at all!” she bumbled, waving her feathered wings in front of her. Freddie sighed. “Chica, I know you like to mess around in the bathroom, but that’ll make more work for Night Watch.” He made a puzzled face. “Wait, is he our security guard and the janitor?” He scratched his head and forgot about Chica’s situation. “He also worked in the kitchen. That’s about three jobs.” Freddie stroked his chin. “Wow, Night Watch is pretty strong in wanting to work all of that.”

In relief that Freddie had lost his train of thought, the three sat in the darkness. “Now that I think about it, where’s Night Watch anyway?” he suddenly asked. “Do you think he’s in the security room?”

12:57 A.M

Night Watch groaned and slowly opened his eyes. A small cockroach chittered next to his face. “Oh, hello, Mr. Cockroach,” he mumbled tiredly. Night Watch gave a small yawn before it dawned upon him that something like a cockroach was next to his face.

“Whooooaaaahaaaahh!” Night Watch screamed at the top of his lungs. He got up on his feet and tripped backwards onto the bed behind him. His heart thumped in his chest, sweat squeezed out of his pores, his muscles twitched in anticipation. He gave a loud sigh and sat down on the bed. “Oh, it was only a cockroach…”

He gave a few weak chuckles and tried to calm himself down. Due to his semi-poor living conditions, Night Watch could stomach looking at cockroaches. But never did he expect a pest that close to his face. He read that they would crawl on sleeping ponies and suck moisture from tear ducts to quench themselves. He shuddered at the thought.

But what time was it? Night Watch shifted his eyes around the room. The clocked ticked towards 12:58 A.M. “Wow, the night’s just about to start,” Night Watch said. He gave a tired yawn, his body still feeling the repercussions of the days prior. Even though he was startled awake, his body steadily gave in to the slow decline of energy. He laid down on the bed. “Hmm…” he snuggled on the comfortable cool blankets and rubbed his face on the pillow.

At that moment, the door became splinters. With a large crack, Freddie barged, ravaging the door itself and the walls around it. “I heard a girlish scream. Who was that, Night Watch?” He squinted, looking for anyone except Night Watch. Night Watch on the other hand was covered in bits of wood and had a doorknob ricochet onto his head. He lifted a finger up to say something, but his mouth refused.

Chica and Bonnie appeared from behind Freddie, wondering why he was suddenly on the bed. They both eyed the hole in the ground that resembled Night Watch’s skull and a small cockroach that was impaled by shards of splinters.

“I-I just need sleep,” Night Watch croaked before passing out. A few ‘Z’s appeared above his head before his hand went down.

“Let’s let him sleep,” Freddie said, nonchalant of destroying an entire doorway. He turned around and paused. “Wait, that scream. Could it be a ghost?” Chica turned white.

“Ghost? What do you mean ghosts?!”

Bonnie gave a soft ‘shh’, as they were still at the doorway of the office. Chica started to behave wildly. Freddie gave a small chuckle, leaving her to freak out. “Oh, you know, the ghost that haunts this place.”

“What? Father never said anything about a ghost!” Chica screeched.

“He said plenty of them to me,” he said, piling more onto the tale. “Besides, you know what time the ghost comes out?”

There was silence.

“One o’clock.”

The clock ticked onto one ‘clock A.M.
