Spike was doing his daily chores within the library: Picking up all the scattered books, organizing them, getting Twilight to stop pulling more of them out as he tried to put some back, and then repeating the process. He found it tedious to keep doing all this but he somehow took pride on keeping Twilight's mess to a minimum, it definitely was a job no ordinary person could handle, the stress would get them quickly. As he began to pick up Twilight's newest mess, there was a knock on the door. He knew the soft tap on the door all too well, behind the door was none other than Rarity, she really found it rude to knock so she would just tap the door as to not disturb anyone inside.
Spike happily made his way to the door and opened it, he looked up and smiled at Rarity, "Hello Rarity! Please, come inside. Twilight is in the living room, making a mess I'm sure you know who will be cleaning up later."
Rarity stepped inside and giggled at Spike's frustration with Twilight, she waved a hand dismissively and smiled, "Well my Spikey Wikey, the fact you still clean up her messes just means you really are her number one assistant and young gentleman indeed."
Spike blushed a bit at her remark and watched her make her way over to Twilight how seemed to not notice Rarity or Spike were there at all. Rarity was a bit shorter than the average woman but to Spike, it just made her cuter. "Thanks for not insulting me with your own words Rarity..." Rarity smiled and Twilight just shook her head before asking, "So what brings you here?"
Rarity looked as Spike left to get her water, "You know Spike's birthday is coming up and well, I want to get him something...not clothing. I mean, he adores what I give him and it looks marvelous on the boy but...it's not something boys his age pride themselves about. I tend to keep myself in the mindset of the upper class so I don't really know what to give such a charming boy Twilight. I'm sure you know something's he'd like, he's practically your son."
Twilight pondered as Rarity spoke but when she mentioned Twilight practically being Spike's mother she blushed a bit and covered Rarity's mouth, "Rarity! We're not supposed to talk about that! It took him a while to relax with the idea he was hatched let alone by me. He called me his mother till he was seven, now he casually calls Princess Celestia mom but I think she's okay with it...I'm like his...sister/ boss. As for things he'd like...he is still into the power ponies comics, he occasionally asks for new cleaning supplies, and I'm sure a bike would be not only fun but useful for him...scratch that, I'm getting him that."
Rarity frowned at Twilight, "Hey, that was actually a good idea. Let me get him that, I'm sure you can find something else."
Twilight looked at Rarity deadpan again and then noticed how she was dressed and smirked, "How about you take him out for a night? I'm sure he'd love that a lot, dinner and a movie maybe?"
Rarity blushed lightly and looked away as she huffed, "Hmmph, how uncouth of you Twilight. I know he has a cute crush on me but pah-lease don't try to get the young thing's heart broken by a woman. He is actually quite charming and marvelous but I'm not into...kid love...although when he does get older, I think I could be a cougar for him." She winked and roared cutely and Twilight laughed as she rolled her eyes at Rarity.
"Hehe, I actually believe you on that one Rarity. Just treat my boy right...I mean, my assistant!" Twilight caught herself on and blushed as she saw Rarity giggling on her slip up. Spike walked into the room with a tray holding a pitcher of water and glasses, he reached the coffee table and placed it down.
"So what are you ladies gossiping about now? Who's gonna be Mr.Ponyville 2014? I'm gonna enter, watch me be Mr.Ponyville 2022 for sure!" He grinned and Twilight face palmed as Rarity laughed and clapped her hands.
"Oh my Spikey, I'll definitely will be voting for you!" She chuckled and saw Twilight smirk at her.
"I'm sure that's not the only thing she'll be doing..." Twilight said, Spike looked at her puzzled as Rarity glared at Twilight but Twilight was amused with her own comment.
Rarity and Twilight spent an hour more together as they talked in the living room as Spike took out his power ponies comic issue 21 and occasionally listened to their conversation and wasn't surprised to hear them talk about the Mr.Ponyville contest, both thought Big Mac was gonna be the winner since the town's male population is small and those who actually are fit is smaller.
Rarity got up and stretched a bit, "Mmm...well my dearies, it's about time I returned home, Sweetie will certainly be waiting for me. I'll see you two later, especially you soon to be birthday boy." She hugged Spike and kissed his cheek which lit up his face deep red which always amused her. She also hugged Twilight before leaving, Spike looked on as she left before Twilight shut the door with her magic.
"Alright Casanova, let's get started on sprucing up the place and get working on dinner." Spike sighed and nodded as he followed her into the kitchen, they both began washing vegetables and heating water in a pot for pasta. They finished and sat down at the table which Spike set us as Twilight struggled with getting the pasta out of the hot water. They both sat down and happily at their meals but Spike's face began to grow gloomy, Twilight noticed and asked, "Spike? Is something the matter?"
He sighed and finished chewing, "Well...it's just that...I'm gonna be thirteen soon and it's still a whole five years before I'm of age. It's depressing to know that the one thing keeping me from what I want to do is my age..." Twilight gave him a sympathetic look.
"What is it that you want to do at eighteen Spike?"
"I...I want to ask Rarity out...you know...like going out with her as a couple..." he said as he finished his pasta.
Twilight looked at him curiously as if to see if he was serious of what he just told her, "Um, Spike? You do realize you'll be eighteen and she'll be twenty six, it'd be very odd for her to go for a guy who's eight years younger than her." She quickly realized what she said was bad and Spike looked even gloomier. "Well, it'd be socially okay for that to happen, you do get what I'm trying to say though, right?"
Spike nodded and picked up his and Twilight's plates and took them to the sink to wash them, "So Twilight, what about you? Any guys caught your eyes yet or am I gonna have to worry you'll be making out with a book one day?" Twilight quickly glared at Spike but he chuckled as he dried their plates.
She blushed a bit and looked away, "I am a princess now so I'll be busier with royal duties and studies to even consider a love interest and for your information one of our books is much cleaner than some random guy's mouth so making out with it wouldn't be an issue!"
Spike laughed and nearly dropped a plate due to her remark, "You're really not helping your case Twilight. But...it would be cool to see you being happy with some guy, going on dates, spending time together...I'm sure you'd feel the same once the time comes."
Twilight smiled and hugged him, "Sometimes I wonder if you weren't my brother or assistant...and were older if we could have been together."
Spike blushed a bit and chuckled, "Yeah right, I dunno about you Twilight but I'm not much of a shut in or into bookworms as you think." Twilight laughed and lightly bumped his head with her palm, night quickly came and they both headed upstairs. Spike's bed was still right next to Twilight's and he stripped down to his boxers and under shirt to go to bed while Twilight had pajamas with stars and planets. As they both laid down and began to dose off, Spike was still feeling a bit down about the talk earlier, "Why can't she like me Twilight? I'm certainly better than the guys who are after her and I'm so helpful around her...I just don't know why..."
Twilight yawned, she was half asleep, "Well....you are just too young Spike...maybe if you were older she'd be on you like *yawn* white on rice..." she slipped into sleep and Spike was puzzled that she would even make such a reference.
He looked at the ceiling and thought to himself, "I gotta get older somehow...Twilight doesn't know such a spell, her books don't even touch on the subject. I know Zecora can't help, Scootaloo already asked her and she said no. Who else?" He looked about and saw an old drawing he made as a toddler that Twilight hung up, it was of him, Twilight and Princess Celestia. He thought for a bit and smiled, "Time for me to visit mom and see if she can help me out."

Dawn came and as if like clockwork, Twilight woke up at 7:00 am and with her fumbling about the room, Spike woke up too. He yawned and scratched his head as he looked about the room, he saw Twilight making her way downstairs and that the sun was peeking over the hills of Ponyville. He got out of bed and walked up to Twilight's mirror, he looked at himself and wasn't amused. He was short for his age and he showed little muscle, Twilight's diet and his daily carrying of large amount of books which he was proud of. He went downstairs and saw Twilight rushing about the kitchen, putting out two fires, "Twilight?! What did you do now?!"
Twilight used her magic to pour buckets of water over the two fires and frowned, "I tried making bacon and eggs...needless to say it didn't go well. Why can't I ever learn to cook?!"
Spike grinned and began to clean up the burned food and cooking wares, "You'd starve without me Twilight. I worry for when I get married."
Twilight smiled and hugged Spike as he washed the dishes, "Hehe, I won't allow some woman to take my special little cook." She kissed his head and left him to begin cooking breakfast, she silently left the kitchen and made her way to her special reading room which Spike rarely got to enter. Once inside she took out a pencil and paper and began to jot down gift ideas that she was planning to go look for that day. She wanted to get the gift quickly as to find something to wrap it up with and have it hidden in her special reading room before Spike notices. When she stepped out, she could smell scrambled eggs with ham and chopped onion mixed in and bacon. Her mouth watered and she walked to the kitchen table to see Spike already served her a plate and he was already stuffing his face with bacon.
Twilight sat down and began to eat with Spike when Spike stopped eating and looked at Twilight, "Um, hey Twilight, would it be alright if I head to Canterlot today? I wanna go visit mom for a bit, alone....ya know, mother/ son time."
Twilight paused and thought for a bit before nodding her head, "Sure thing Spike, do you want to take the train or do you want me to teleport you there?"
Spike was surprised she so readily agreed but he wasn't about to complain and he didn't know Twilight was actually planning to boot him from the library for two days as to get the place ready for his birthday party. Pinkie asked Twilight for Spike to not be home the night before because she wanted to plant some "surprises" for him. "Well, can you teleport me to the castle but can you please not teleport me to the royal bath house again...I still can't look at Princess Luna without remembering that time."
Twilight blushed and giggled, she remembered she used him as practice for teleporting a living being over a long distance and she miscalculated the distance of the Throne room thus Spike was teleported on top of Princess Luna as she bathed which earned him a slap and an hour in the dungeon. "Hahaha, sorry, I'll do better this time. I promise."
Once they finished eating and Spike rewashed the dishes, he got dressed and stood in the middle of the library, "Alright Twilight, I'm ready to go!"
She smiled and closed her eyes as she focused on the spell, she imagined the Throne room in Canterlot castle and she shot Spike with a magic bolt and with a bright flash, he was gone. She opened her eyes and smiled, "Welp, time to go shopping!" She walked outside and made her way to the town center of Ponyville.
Princess Celestia sat on her throne as she read the morning paper with a cup of coffee and a slice of cake on a small table beside her when a bright flash pulled her attention to it. She smiled as she saw a dazed Spike wandering around blindly, "Good morning Spike, nice to see you."
As Spike regained the ability of sight, he turned to the Princess and bowed, "Hello your highness! Nice to see you too." He walked up to her as she got up and hugged him warmly.
"So my son, what brings you here today? Twilight isn't due for royal court for another month and besides your birthday, I'm not aware of any major events coming up."
Spike smiled and looked up at her, "Do I need a reason to see my mom?" Celestia smiled and kissed his forehead and Spike blushed happily.
"Oh Spike, you really are an adorable child, makes me really wish you were my child." She smiled and began to lead him out to the royal garden so they can walk and talk.
They spent time catching up with current events, Spike talked about his daily life as Twilight's janitor/cook and Princess Celestia talked about how annoying the upper class is and how they whine about almost everything. Once they stopped at a bench to relax, Spike grew a bit nervous, "Princess...I have something I'd like to ask and it's a bit of a big request."
The Princess' interest was peeked and looked at Spike curiously, "Alright Spike, I'll hear your request. What is it that you would like to ask of me?"
He cleared his throat and felt nervous, "Well...I have thought about this for a while now and I feel like this is something I truly want. I want to be made older, I wish to be of age like Twilight and Pinkie and Dash."
Princess Celestia nodded her head and knew where he was going with this, "...and Rarity? Spike, I know you like her and it seems you are dead set on being with her but changing your age is rather difficult and irriversable. Once I set you as a certain age, there will be no going back."
Spike closed his eyes and sighed, "I understand but I really want to become older, I feel like I am older already but my body just doesn't seem to match it."
Celestia looked at him, "Well Spike, you are right. You are actually older than you think, much older than anypony in Ponyville." Spike looked at her puzzled and in shock, "You see...you weren't born on your birthday, you were transformed back into an egg on your birthday only to be hatched by Twilight 300 years later. You are a dragon, you only have had contact with them once before and saw how they were but you Spike...you were much worse than them. You dominated the area that would become Ponyville in two hundred years, you chased away all who approached and burned down hundreds of acres of the Everfree. I took it upon myself to stop you but...I saw how your kind was and how you didn't follow their ways. You never horded gold or gems, rather, you horded seeds and had planted trees. You didn't have a cave but slept under trees. I had hope for you thus I made you into an egg, to be born again with the help of a pony who would not only learn about friendship but could easily teach you it as well."
Spike stared at the ground in shock, he did always feel like he was older than most ponies but never did he imagine he really was a full grown dragon. He took a minute to compose himself and looked at Celestia, "I...I trust your judgement Princess, if you say I was a bad dragon before and you did what you did to protect your subjects...I'll believe you. I just want to be old enough for my friends and those I love. Twilight has taught me a lot and I know there is more to learn, I have you and Twilight to keep me on a good path."
Celestia smiled and a few tears of joy ran down her cheeks, "I'm so relieved to hear that my sweet Spike. I was worried you'd be angered by the news. I do hope this doesn't dampen your birthday plans and I will help you with your wish but I am afraid I can't advance your age too much as to not enduce anything unwanted with your body. Please follow me to the throne room, this kind of magic is kept a secret amongst powerful unicorns and alicorns."
Spike nodded and swallowed, he just began to realize how serious this was going to be. They returned to the throne room and Celestia asked the guards to leave for a while, she took out an old book from within her throne and read it carefully as Spike nervously sat on the ground.
"Alright Spike, this spell will indeed grant age progression but...I cannot decide what age you'll advance. You must think of what age you wish to be and focus on it till the spell is over. Please do your best." Spike nodded and closed his eyes as he focused on the age of 21, it is how old Twilight and Rarity are so he wanted to be that age.
Celestia began to chant an olden spell and a dark purple light began to encase Spike, a loud wooshing sound blasts into Spike's ears and he struggles to think about the age of 21 but he kept on. The figure grew worried, "I did my best to focus on age 21, I kept focused like you asked! Please tell me it worked mom!"
Celestia sighed in relief and hugged Spike who was now tall as her, "You did it son! You are now 21 years old and my, my; you are quite the looker might I say."
Spike smiled and Celestia conjured a mirror before him and he began to look at himself. He certainly was taller, his old clothes tightly fit him, his body looked more masculine with larger muscles and a five o'clock shadow on his chin. Spike smiled and nodded, "Sure thing mom, I can't wait. For now, do you want to build a matress fort?"
Celestia chuckled and shook her head, "Oh Spike, I'm glad you are still a child at heart but once you return home, you must be ready and willing to learn how it is to be an adult."
Spike nodded and they went to Celestia's bedroom as the night began to take over, meanwhile Twilight was walking a bike back to the library. She smiled at the fact she was sure Spike would love it and that her best friend was going to be one year older and one year more with her. "Fourteen years together...I can clearly remember the day he hatched and how excited I was. He sure was a handful but the more I looked at him, the more I didn't mind...he's my little guy and I'll miss these times when he gets too old and leaves..." she stopped in front of the library and frowned, "No...I shouldn't think of such things, I should focus on enjoying the time I still have him here with me." She entered the library and her eyes went wide as she saw a mess of streamers and ballons littering the whole place, she then saw a pink blur pass her with a trail of confetti. "Pinkie! What are you doing?!"
Pinkie Pie immediately stopped and turned to look at her, "Twilight! Hi!! I'm thought I'd get a head start on setting up for tomorrow and let myself in! Now if you don't mind, I have two confetti cannons to load and cake mines to plant, parties are WAR!!" She ran off and Twilight wanted to say something but she just shook her head and took the bike into her private reading room. She got some wrapping paper she bought and began to use her magic to levitate the bike as she wrapped it up in paper, she smiled as she imagined Spike's reaction to it and how cute he'd look riding about the neighborhood.
She finished and set it down and heard Pinkie Pie say goodnight as she zoomed out of the library, Twilight didn't even get to say goodbye, much less ask where Pinkie Pie set up all her traps so she flew up to her room and sat there in silence. She looked at the clock and saw how late it was getting and had no word of Spike, she was sure he was still in Canterlot but she still couldn't help thinking he might be on the train back. A paper appeared before here with a poof and it had Princess Celestia's insignia on it, she opened it and read it:

Spike is going to stay at the castle for the night and will return just in time for the surprise party I'm sure Pinkie Pie has cleverly planned out. Rarity looked a bit worried, "I do hope that girl hasn't set up anything that will hurt him, well, since we are both free, let's head to my boutique and chat a bit before we need to head to the library. Twilight chuckled at Rarity's unamusemet with Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash, once Twilight finished breakfast, the left to the boutique and gossiped about royalty till Applejack came by. They were both surprised to see that Applejack actually had a dress on, it was plain but the fact it was a certifiable dress was shocking and their reaction only made Applejack feel uncomfortable, "Will y'all quit gawkin' at me? Rarity and Twilight smiled and let her in, she also joined into their gossip but also added in gossip in town. Between their wonderings of how Princess Celestia keeps a slim figure even though she eats a lot of cake and why Lyra is so obsessed with ponies, time flew by quickly. They left the boutique and headed to the library, by the time they got there Pinkie and Dash were outside giggling, Rarity looked at them cautiously, "I take it you two jokesters have something in store for Spikey?"
Dash laughed and nodded, "Oh, he's not gonna suspect a thing! You see, Pinkie added some-" She was interrupted by Pinkie Pie as she covered Dash's mouth with her hand.
"You'll spoil the surprise silly! They'll see it when he gets here and tries to head into his room, hehehe..." A wicked smirk crossed Pinkie's face and Twilight actually felt worried but assured herself Pinkie wouldn't intentionally hurt Spike. They all made their way inside and a few minutes later, Fluttershy entered too. They talked amongst themselves quietly as the time drew closer to when he should appear and then there was a knock on the door.
"Hello? Anyone in there? It's kinda cold out here."
Everyone inside was confused by the voice for they couldn't recognize it and the front of the library had no window and the door had no peephole. Twilight approached the door and opened it, "Oh, I'm sorry. We were waiting for a friend...wait..." Pinkie Pie screamed and ran upstairs, "Ahh!! My trap wasn't made for tall people, oh no!" There was dead silence and then a loud explosion, she came back down with smoke coming from her hair and covered in soot, "Avoid your room for a bit, I opened a window to vent out the smoke."
Rarity never took her eyes off of Spike, she had mixed emotions. She felt sad that she no longer could spend time with the little boy who always followed her around and helped her so much. She felt confused as to how it's even possible for him to have aged so much overnight, she tried to observe and recognize his facial features and they reminded her of someone around her age which seemed too impossible to believe. She also felt happy, she didn't know why but the fact he was now just as old as her made her feel hope for something.
Spike looked back at her and smiled which made Rarity blush but she didn't mind showing it, all the while Twilight unconsciously felt Spike up. His now larger back, the muscles were more noticeable and she could feel him breathing. She felt his large, strong arms hold her close and lightly caress her back. He slightly towered over her and he rested his chin on her shoulder, she felt safe.
All the girls crowded around him and hugged him too, they moved towards the kitchen to have the cake while Rarity and Twilight stayed behind, "He really is grown up now...my Spikey Wikey is now just Spike..."
Twilight nodded and looked down, "I wonder how things are going to be now..."
More than a friend, more than a assistant
Twilight sat beside Spike on the table as the rest of the girls brought in the cake Pinkie Pie made and then edited since he skipped a few years. There were 25 candles on the cake, thirteen were small and were a mix of purple and green while the others were all plain white candles which Twilight would use to read at night. "So are we in the ballpark or do we need to add more Spike?" asked Rainbow Dash.
Spike laughed and took four of them off, "There we go, I am 21 now girls, just like most of you."
They all stared at him till finally Dash broke the silence, "Are you gonna tell us how you got older or what?"
Spike face palmed at the fact he didn't tell them anything yet, "Sorry, it slipped my mind, besides being taller I don't see much of a difference so I kinda glazed over this. Anyways, I have been thinking about this for a while now. You girls are always running around, saving the day while I usually stay in the background...or cause the problems...but it has bothered me that when I ask to help you the answer is the same 'You are too young,' So now, I'm not, I am now just like you. I figured I couldn't get any of this done by Twilight or Zecora so I decided to pay mom a visit. She has noticed how I have grown and how I've acted, she thought I wouldn't be a bad idea as long as I didn't get too old too fast. She told me about...about I really am, rather, who I was and I didn't like it."
Everyone was puzzled by what he said, "What do you mean by wh-what you were Spike?" asked Fluttershy, she hid a bit behind her hair as she asked.
Spike sighed and looked at the group but mainly at Rarity, "I..I was a monster...I terrorized this land for quite a long time before Princess Celestia captured me and aged me back into an egg. She waited for the perfect student.." he looked at Twilight, "...to help raise and show me a new and better life and so here I am...reformed and anew. I have been much older than all of you but I just didn't realize it till now. She told me to think of the age I wanted to be as she casted a spell on me and I thought of the age most of you girls are and it did hurt a bit but in the end I got what I wanted. That's pretty much it..."
They all tried to understand what Spike said but it was clear it didn't sink in too much to anyone besides Twilight, "Spike...you aren't who you were long ago and the path you choose is your own...I...we are all here for you and who you are to us. Don't let your past life dictate what happens here and now for you...you are far more better than that beast you mentioned before." Spike smiled at Twilight and felt a bit better.
Rarity came up behind Spike and hugged him, he blushed as he felt her warmth, "You will always be my Spikey Wikey. Twilight is right and we are all here for you dear, don't you worry. This is a time to be happy for from now on, you'll be around us a lot more Spikey, hope you can keep up."
Dash quickly interjected, "Hey! That's my line!"
They all laughed and smiled as Spike got ready to blow out his candles, he closed his eyes and mumbled something quietly before blowing out the candles. Everyone cheered and congradulated him, "So Spike, what did y'all wish for?" asked Applejack.
Spike smiled and shook his head, "I can't tell you or it won't come true." He looked down and turned to Rarity who was smiling and using her magic to remove the candles from his cake, Applejack noticed and chuckled.
"Should have figured but...I reckon this wish just might happen. Enjoy your birthday sug, I gotta head on home n get ready for work mighty early." She hugged Spike and kissed his forehead like she always had done and Spike gladly accepted it, she thought it was nice he wasn't fully grown up, at least not at heart. One by one the girls left the library till only three people remained inside, Spike sat alone on a chair as he read his new Power Ponies comic and Twilight sat with Rarity on the couch.
"So, now that Spike has grown...how will the living accomidations be like? His bed certainly won't hold him now, the poor dear will be hanging of it at all ends!" said Rarity as she pointed out Spike's new height.
Twilight sat there and pondered, "Well, I can't do too much about it for now. I can get him a new one tomorrow and maybe clear a room just for him-"
"Well hold on a second, the poor thing shouldn't be ousted just yet Twilight. You need to ween him away. Slowly but surely have him moved to a new room but occasionally let him sleep in your room till he finally feels independent enough to make the complete transition. He has been sleeping in your room for so long that he might be afraid sleeping alone," interjected Rarity.
Twilight looked annoyed but understood what she meant, "You're right, I'll try to do that but I will need to think of something for tonight."
Rarity got up and walked to Spike, "I believe I have kept you two awake long enough, Goodnight Spikey Wikey, sorry I only got you clothes...that only fit you a day ago."
Spike smiled and hugged her, "It's alright Rarity, I appreciate it. Thank you and goodnight." For some reason, Spike felt really bold and he looked into Rarity's eyes and she blushed as she looked into his. He leaned in and so did she before Spike kissed her cheek and her face lit up more, she absently minded stood there before quickly running off home. Spike looked confused and facepalmed, "Damn it...I think I screwed that one up...she's gonna hate me for doing that."
Twilight giggled and smiled, "You made the dame run away Spike, you have alot to learn about older mares. Come on, let's go to bed already, it's 1 am."
Spike followed Twilight to her bedroom and followed his usual presleeping rituals: He began to strip down to his boxers and under shirt, he stretched a bit, then he laid down on his bed. He frowned when he realized half his legs were hanging of the edge of his bed, "You know...I got a feeling I'm gonna regret these changes real quick like..."
Twilight over heard him as she changed and brushed her teeth in the bathroom, she giggled and looked at her mirror as she finished flossing and saw Spike through the crack in the doorway. She blushed lightly as she saw how he looked now, much more mature, much more manly than the little boy she saw two days ago. She led her eyes over his body and noticed the muscle tone and growth, she felt odd about it but shook the feeling off, "Come on Twilight, it's just Spike...he's your brother for goddess' sake. We are just that...it's not weird to look at him or anything like that..." She then saw him take his shirt off and blushed more, "Oh geez, I really need to talk to someone about this...I can't talk to the princess for that would be too embarassing, Fluttershy would probably faint, Pinkie would blab in a second, Rainbow would tease me, Applejack would feel ashamed in me...guess Rarity is my only confidant. I'll talk to her tomorrow, I'll just try to survive the night."
Spike peered into the bathroom, "Hey Twi, I can hear you mumbling for a while now. What's up?"
Twilight turned around and saw him leaning against the doorway with his figure fully on display, her blush burned more and she avoided looking at him directly. "Oh, um...I was just thinking of giving Rarity a visit tomorrow for some girl time and such, no need to worry about anything at all."
Spike looked at her carefully and shrugged his shoulders, "Alrighty then, you're the boss." He walked off and Twilight gave a sigh of relief as she followed behind him. She reached her bed and was about to turn off the light when she saw Spike getting on her bed.
"Spike...what do you think you are doing?" she asked as he got under her covers.
"My bed is too small now and I thought I'd just sleep here for tonight, you know, like back in the day when I had nightmares." He looked at her and smiled and she blushed at the thought of having him sleeping next to her.
"Well...I don't know Spike. You are older now."
Spike looked at her and frowned, "Aww, come on! What's the difference between me then and now? I'm just bigger, still the same lean and mean dragon inside. Please! I hate sleeping on the ground, it's cold."
Twilight thought for a bit before she gave in, "Okay then...I don't see why you wanted to get older if you are still gonna be sleeping in my bed like a kid."
He yawned and tossed a pillow at her, "I'll be older tomorrow..."
She smiled and turned off the light, she laid down and got beneath the covers, she faced away from him and closed her eyes as she tried to fall asleep. She slipped into sleep and began to have a dream, she felt as if she was awake on her bed but it wasn't her own. She opened her eyes and saw she was in a castle on a large bed, similar to Celestia's. She felt someone's arm around her waist and when she turned to see who it was, she saw her ideal man there, smiling and telling her good morning. She smiled and leaned in to kiss him, she felt him kiss her back and she blushed. When he ran his hands down her hips, she noticed she was naked but didn't mind at all. She relished in his caressing and kissed him more when for some reason, his touch became more and more real. She questioned what was going on and she began to leave her dream and began to wake up. As she snapped back to reality, she couldn't see much since it was dark but her clock read 2 AM. She confused why she felt the way she did when a familiar arm gripped around her waist, she yelped quietly and used her magic to light up the area near her with low light aurora. She saw Spike asleep next to her as he was holding her and was gently caressing Twilight's hips. She blushed hard as she also realized he lifted her night gown so he was touching her bare skin. She looked at him to see if he was reacting consciously but he was fast asleep, she blushed hard and wanted to tell him to stop but she didn't. She looked at his lips and saw they were moist as if someone was kissing him, she remembered her dream and realized it was him she was doing all this with.
Spike held her closer and brought her face next to hers, Twilight could feel his breath tickle her neck and she sighed a bit as she felt it, "W-well...I already kissed him once...well, quite a bit but still, he didn't get up. Maybe once more won't be too bad..." She got closer to him and brought her lips up to his, she gently pressed them together and felt a light spark in her as she tenderly kissed him. He didn't really react to her kiss which saddened her a bit but it felt so right to kiss him, she held him and got more adventurous. She felt his body lightly, his large arms, his toned abs and chest, this firm jaw and soft hair; she felt so guilty to do all this as he slept but she felt so happy to do it. Spike began to move around a bit and she got scared quickly, she let go of him and she pulled his arms away from her and turned away. She heard him grumble and begin to wake up.
"Hmm...? What time is it?" he said as he tried to focus on the time. "3 AM? Too darn early...I've had such a great dream...I'm so angry I woke up. Rarity and I were finally going out and things got fun...oh well, back to sleep." He laid back down and fell back to sleep, Twilight began to regret what she did and tried to fall asleep once again.
"Why did I do that? He doesn't even see me that way...I really need to talk to Rarity tomorrow..." she told herself as fatigue finally got hold of her and she fell asleep.
More than a friend, more than a assistant
As the sun arose over the hills of Ponyville, the warm light shone through the Library top windows and hit Spike in the face. He slowly opened his eyes and rubbed them to see better, "Hmm? Morning already? I woke up not too long ago..." He sat up from the bed and sighed, "Alright, time to see what Twilight has burned today. Hopefully she hasn't burned the last of the bacon, that would set me off." As he stood and turned around he saw Twilight was still in bed, he scratched his head and wondered if something was wrong, "She gets up earlier than I do, or even wakes me up...maybe she sick?" He walked around the bed and looked down at her, "She looks asleep. Maybe I woke her up too and she's just catching up on sleep?" He gently placed his hand on her forehead and felt a little warmth but nothing indicating sickness, "Well, this is odd but I should just let her get some sleep and get breakfast ready." He began to head downstairs as he whistled a low tune.
Twilight got up as she heard him leave and blushed hard, "Damn it Spike, why must you make everything so difficult...I was gonna get up but you seem to forget that you are grown up now..." She remembered opening her eyes as he touched her forhead and saw his morning wood greeting her face, she didn't want to scare him by waking up and freaking out. She got up and sighed, "As soon as I go to breakfast I'm gonna head to Rarity's and talk to her, I don't know how much more of this I can take." She got up and started to take off her night gown, she smiled a bit as she remembered how Spike was kissing and touching her as well as how she kissed and touched him. An aroma began to grab her attention, it was the sweet smell of Spike's blueberry pancakes with cinnamon, her favorites. She began to head downstairs happily and got to the kitchen to see him at the stove cooking, "Oh my gosh! You are making my favorites!?"
"Hehe, yes I am, I figured you'd want a good breakfast." He turned around and smiled but the smile quickly faded and his face began to burn red, he saw Twilight standing at the kitchen entrance, naked. He normally wouldn't be fazed by this when he was younger but something inside him was telling him that he wanted to grab her and kiss her but also more. He looked away and didn't notice he was getting hard, "T-twilight...you are...um...naked..."
Twilight looked down and blushed hard before teleporting upstairs, "Ahhhh!! I'm sorry Spike! I didn't remember I was changing!" She began to get dressed quickly but now felt too embarassed to head back downstairs after revealing herself to him, as she quietly paniced she began to remember his reaction. "H-he blushed, looked away but I still felt his eyes on my body...he even had a bulge in his boxers...he...he liked what he saw...oh my gosh! I really need to see Rarity!" She teleported back down and saw Spike eating by himself, when he saw her he blushed but kept eating. "Sorry Spike but I need to head to Rarity's right now so I'll be taking this to go." She grabbed a pancake and began to walk out while eating it, she quickly closed the door and sped to Rarity's boutique. As she got there, she saw the closed sign still up which puzzled her since Rarity would normally be up and working on designs or orders.
She knocked on the door and listened for a response, "...One moment please!" She heard hurried shuffling and bumping before the door was unlocked and opened, Rarity stood there with an oversized shirt and pajama bottoms on as well as her messy hair. "Sorry darling I um...had a rough night of sleep but please come in and make yourself at home." She motioned Twilight inside and closed the door behind her, "Tell me dearie, what brings you here so early? I do admit I am not busy or...really in the midset to work but you are usually off at the library, reading or studying or creating some sort of havoc for poor Spikey to deal with." She chuckled at her own joke and turned to Twilight only to see her unresponsive to it, "Dearie? What is on your mind?"
Twilight made her way to a chair and sat down, she sighed and shook her head "Spike...he's really grown up now isn't he. It's not just some trick of the eyes or of the mind...my little Spike isn't little anymore. I'm not sure how to feel about all this..."
Rarity frowned and sat in a chair beside her, "Well, he is now older and from what he said, there is no going back. I'm afraid it's all real Twilight. What about him being older is troubling you?"
Twilight began to recall the past twenty-four hours and blushed as she remembered kissing him and exposing herself to him, "I can't act like I used to before and...since he is now an adult, he'll have adult responses to things. I accidentally um...revealed myself to him in the morning as I teleported downstairs. He blushed and looked away but he also...became aroused..."
Rarity listened to Twilight and chuckled as she began to mention the morning incident till she heard her say he became aroused "A-aroused you say? How c-could you tell?" Rarity didn't know why but she didn't like hearing Twilight say Spike became aroused to Twilight's little peep show.
She tried not to blush so much but her face began to beam red light "H-he had a b-b-bulge...in his boxers..." She looked at Rarity and saw a face of disapproval, "It wasn't on purpose! I just forgot I was changing and the smell of blueberry pancakes made me excited so I just teleported there..."
Rarity saw her catching on to her face and began to smile, "It's alright Twilight, we all make mistakes and it's cute to hear Spike is finally responding like a man. Just make sure to be careful around him now, we don't want you to end up getting ravaged by the vicious dragon, hahaha!" She saw Twilight frown and blush harder from her comment but she felt better from saying it, Rarity opened her mouth to say something but then just closed it. She wanted to tell Twilight that she was having sleeping trouble since she was thinking hard about Spike's sudden growth and if she could bring herself to try to flirt with Spike and maybe even ask him to dinner but what Twilight said next broke all her delusions of a night with her beloved dragon.
"Th-that's not funny Rarity...last night he...well, I did too but out of curiosity..." Twilight struggled to say what she wanted to say properly. "He...kissed me as I slept a-and touched me...like a lover would..."
Rarity's jaw dropped and her eyes widened, "That ruffian!! Oh when I get my claws on him for attacking you in such a way, why I'll-"
Twilight stopped Rarity's rampage by placing a hand on her hand, "It wasn't like that at all...he was asleep too. I'm sure he was having a dream about you a-and just acted somethings out. He never went farther than kissing, he still is an innocent virgin."
Rarity rubbed her head "Well, I suppose to solve this all you really need to do is by the thing a bed and he'll stop sleep molesting-"
Twilight frowned "I also...I also touched and kissed him but...I was awake...I'm sorry! I was just so happy to have gotten such tender treatment and I was having a dream it was a lover and it turned out to be Spike and his lips were so inviting and his body is just so amazing and...and...oh dear I'm a pervert!!" She buried her face in her hands and Rarity was dumbfounded by her.
Rarity cleared her throat and moved Twilight's hands away and saw her crying silently, "Twilight...I can't say I'm not disappointed by what you did but...I have a feeling this is not just because Spike is a handsome adult now...do you have some sort of feelings towards Spike?"
The question rang in Twilight's mind for a minute, she has been telling herself that they were just siblings and coworkers but somewhere inside her, there was a feeling of love that she couldn't account for when it came to Spike. He would always act chummy around her, smile at her randomly, help her in tasks even he didn't need to help her with, he was her source for food and cleaning since she was pretty useless at it but he didn't have to go the extra mile when it came to making her happy. She looked at Rarity and her eyes grew wide, "Y-yes...I think...I think I do...I think I do feel something for Spike b-but since he was just a child I could easily surpress it but now that he's older...I think I love him...oh gosh..."
The words I think I love him droned in Rarity's mind like loud gongs being hit by Pinkie Pie after ten super choco cakes, she was petrified by Twilight's respose "Sh-she loves him....she loves him!!! No way! I loved him even when he was just a child but never took it far since he was just a child but now that he's older, he's mine!!" she said in her mind but she looked at Twilight's face of confusion and acceptance. "B-but...she knows him better...she is always around him...hell, she even makes him happy. Oh Rarity, you should of pounced on him immediately! Now Twilight is going to take him away...at least she'll be happy...I know I would of..." she thought and patted Twilight's back. "Now dearie, since you know realize you love him...what will you do?"
Twilight looked at Rarity and looked lost, "I...I'm not too sure. I guess I'll try to see if he shows any signs of liking me and if he does...I will try to ask him out but...if he doesn't, which I'm sure of, then I won't do a thing and try to forget about it all. I don't want to lose him just because he doesn't feel the same way I do."
Rarity nodded and got up, "Sounds like you found your answer Twilight. Now get out there and nab yourself a dragon!" She smiled and Twilight smiled as well.
She rose and nodded, "Hehe, okay. I'll try...thank you Rarity. I couldn't of discovered my feelings without you." She hugged Rarity and began to head out the door.
Rarity closed the door behind her and she leaned her head against the door, tears running down her cheek. "Stupid Rarity....stupid, stupid Rairty...you just let her leave and gave her confidence to take him away..." She walked to the stairs and went up to her room, she laid on her bed and curled up in a ball, "He...he loves me but...Twilight is smart, she'll easily woo him away...I can't fight my best friend over a guy, much less a friend to both of us..." She inched close to a nearby drawer and pulled out a necklace, it had a fire ruby shaped like a heart on a gold chain, she kissed it and felt a warmth come from it. "I...I guess this is goodbye...Spikey Wikey..." she began to cry before falling asleep with the necklace on.

As Twilight made her way home, she blushed and smiled as she accepted her realization of her love for Spike. No longer was he a brother, a friend, or assistant; he was now a potential lover, the man who would make her happy and who really understood her. "I've only ever dreamed to meet such a guy and yet...he was beside me all along. Spike...my Spike...hehe, I can't stop smiling!" She wiped a few tears of joy from her face as she got closer to the library, "Okay, now I need to focus on how I'm even going to ask Spike. He probably wouldn't expect me to say anything like 'I love you' or 'Go out with me'. I need to find or make the mood right for me to say something like that. I know I have a few relationship books that cover similar matters so I'll just use those-"
"Those books are too old fashioned and boring, you need new editions or a real personal life to ask a guy out." Twilight turned around to see Spike at the door of the library, chuckling a bit. "You have been blabbing out here for a while Twilight, get in here if you are going to get in."
Her face burned red from embarassment, "What!? How long were you..?! What did you hear?!?" She paniced and Spike tried to calm her down.
"Hey, hey. Easy girl, I just heard you were going to get some books to ask someone out. I still think that you need a personal life first before you go and ask who ever out." He chuckled and Twilight sighed in relief, she walked inside and Spike closed the door behind them. "So who are you even trying to ask out, a book? Can't say I've seen you interested in anyone who wasn't a book before so I'm a bit curious at whom this mystery gentleman is."
Twilight shook her head violently, "No way! I'm not ready to say his name or ask him yet...I'm too embarassed..." She looked at him and saw he was smiling and looking at her curiously "Hey Spike...d-do you think you can help me with...with, you know...asking a guy out?"
Spike was about to chuckle but saw she was being sincere so he nodded "Sure Twilight but under one condition, I get to meet the guy you'll be asking out first, I need to look after you and all."
She smiled and blushed "Oh believe me Spike, you most certainly will."
"Alrighty then, let's get down to business. How do you want it to sound? Seductive? Cute? Deep? Tell me how you wish to sound and I'll figure something out."
She began to feel weird, he obviously didn't know she was trying to ask him out but she went along with it since she really didn't like the idea of just going for it on her own. "Well...I want it to be...deep. Cute is nice and I'm not exactly the um..seductive type."
Spike chuckled and nodded, "Well, you can pull of the cute one with that adorable blush and seductive would be possible...just like earlier-" He stopped himself and blushed, "N-nevermind. Okay, deep...give me some facts about him."
"He's been around my life for a while, he helps me alot and I can't really see my life without him there with me...he has changed but I think it was for the better and now that he has changed, I really want to be with him for it's now that I realize how I have truly felt for him all this time I just...I just didn't process it till now..." she looked into his eyes as her cheeks burned red.
Spike smiled and nodded "He really does sound wonderful Twilight...if you really feel that way, he'd be crazy to reject you. I think that alone was great, just add 'This is how I feel and I want to know: Will you be my boyfriend?', at the end of it and there you go. One deep confession and all made by you."
Twilight felt herself become even more nervous, he practically gave her the confession she wanted but her body was now trying to shut down all functions inside her to prevent her from embarassing herself in front of him. "You've been around my life for a while, you helps me alot and I can't really see my life without y-you there with me...you have changed but I think it was for the better and now that you have changed, I really want to be with you for it's now that I realize how I have truly felt for you all this time I just didn't process it till now Spike...I love you and this is how I truly feel...please b-be my boyfriend?" Once she finally said it, she held her breath and looked at Spike as he looked at her confused.
"That sounded great! ...w-wait...Spike? Um...Twilight...what do you mean?" He blushed a bit and looked at her, he saw her and noticed she was being sincere and was looking right at him so there was no mistake in his mind that she just confessed to him. "I...I'm the guy you wanted to ask?! Twilight....I..." He was about to turn her down but he hesitated, in his mind he began to recall all the good times he has had with her, how he always tried to make her happy and didn't know why, how he stuck by her in the darkest of times, and how she made him happy. He blushed more and more as he thought about it. Wait...this feeling...I feel like...I feel like I actually like her.. No, this is wrong, she's my sister...but she's not. She never was...we've been together all this time and it wasn't that kind of bond I felt for her...I liked her...I wanted her to be happy around me because I loved seeing her smile and her complimenting me...I take care of her so she won't rely on anyone else....I love Twilight....
Twilight began to worry as Spike looked down, lost in thought "Spike...y-you don't need to answer right now...I just...I'm sorry for asking and making you feel disturbed, I'm sorry..." She turned around and was ready to teleport away when she felt a hand grab her arm.
Spike held her hand and smiled, he pulled her into a hug and snuggled her a bit "Twilight...I accept. I have felt the same for a while now but...I didn't know what it was for sure till now. I love you Twilight and I want to be your boyfriend."
Twilight grew a goofy smile and cried silently as she hugged Spike tightly "Th-thank you....thank you Spike..." She felt so much joy and broke the hug, she looked into his eyes and blushed. She leaned closer to him and began to kiss him softly on the lips, Spike seemed surprised at first but accepted her kiss and returned it to her.
He blushed and enjoyed her kiss, it felt genuine, it felt amazing, and it felt oddly familiar. They broke the kiss and Twilight backed away a bit, embarassed. "Th-that felt nice...I liked it..." She dawned on her that she never dated before nor really knew what two people dating normally do. "Spike...this is embarassing but, what exactly do we do from here?"
Spike smiled and scratched his head "Well, we go on dates, get to know each other better, do stuff together and later down the road, we see if we still like each other to move on to the next step. I think that's how it goes at least..." Twilight smiled and nodded as she hugged him once more.
"I'm trusting you to guide me there Spike...I love you" She buried her face into her chest and he smiled as she did, he gently stroked her hair.
As all this played out, the library door knocked loudly and both became startled "Huh? I'm not expecting anyone? Are you?" asked Spike.
Twilight shook her head no and he went to the door, when he opened it he saw the whole gang minus Rarity there along with the princesses. "Oh my gosh! Twispike is official!! The story just got good!" cried Pinkie Pie as she ran in and hugged both Spike and Twilight. The two looked puzzled at her and at the others.
"Twispike? Is this about us getting together because that just happened, there is no way you found out just now!?" said Spike but he kinda figured Pinkie Pie was just being Pinkie Pie.
"Silly fillies, the chapter title says 'Twispike begins' so I kinda figured you two were hooking up so I rounded everyone up for a 'Welcome to the dating life' party!!!" Pinkie Pie giggled and took out her party cannon, she blasted around the library as the two let the rest inside.
"Spike, I am surprised by this. I didn't think you would confess to Twilight but I'm happy to see my boy with such a great girl, congradulations sweeite," Celestia said as she hugged Spike, he smiled but began to think about what she said.
"Well howdy! Y'all finally done gone got together, I figured it was only a matter of time before y'all did. You may have been just acting like brother and sister but I could see you two getting together in the future, y'all are too close to just be siblings," said Applejack as she hugged Twilight. Twilight blushed and thanked her.
"I, um, kinda thought Spike would ask Rarity but it's nice to see you two getting together too..." said Fluttershy but Pinkie turned on the music as she spoke so Spike and Twilight couldn't hear her but Rainbow Dash did.
"I kinda thought so too...I also thought of taking his virginity but looks like that window is closed. Oh well, I can't wait to hear from Twilight how a dragon is in the sack, I bet the legends are true about them and she'll be walking funny for a week!" Rainbow Dash laughed as she was amused by her own comment, Fluttershy blushed heavily and Luna was close enough to hear her.
"Sister, why am I here? This is not a marriage proposal and my Shadow is waiting for me at home..." Luna said as she questioned why Celestia dragged her along.
"Oh shush Luna, young love is a wonderful thing to see, I remember when you and Shadow got together, you were practically wanting to shout from the roof tops." Celestia smiled as Luna blushed from the memory.
While everyone was partying in the library, the news of Twilight's new relationship was painful to one lone woman in a boutique. Rarity poured herself a sixth glass of wine as she sobbed, Pinkie Pie came by and told her the news and about the party but she declined to go due to "Too much work". Truth be told, work was slow this time of year and without it, she had time to mope around her home and store. "Spikey...you really are gone now...why? Why did you have to charm me and then leave me? Did I do something wrong? Did I offend you? Why Spikey?" She cried a bit more and drank her glass quickly. There were some letters on her counter that she didn't bother to read but now that she had time and was calming down a bit, she began to read them. She saw most were junk mail but one envelop looked personal, she read who the sender was, "Trenderhoof? He wrote to me? I wonder why..."
