An Unwelcome Arrangement.
Author's Note
Let me know of any errors so I can fix them.
Moving out.
Have you ever been in a situation where you have to do something extremely life changing for
your family? Something that will shape your future in a way you never expected?
Well I have. That stuff tends to happen when you are adopted into the royal family of an alien
species.
I know that sounds pretty strange, but allow me to explain.
It all started when I was sixteen. I don't remember how or why, but I appeared
on an alien world, but not only that, I popped into existance in the middle
of their leaders court.
To say that caused a panic would be an understatement.
I don't really remember all of the details (everything from my first few days a here
is a bit hazy) but from what I've been told. I suddenly popped into existance whilst Princess
Celestia (the of the country's leaders at the time) was holding her day court.
(Meaning there were plenty of civilians to witness my appearence.) I had several burns
across my body, my hair had been singed and I was unconsious. Oh, and I was naked too.
The perfect way to make first contact.
Being the caring person that she is, Celestia immediatly had me sent to the infirmary. My burns
were healed almost instantly. I don't really understand how. I think the doctors said
something about how my body absorbs their healing magic like a sponge? All I know is that
healing time is greatly reduced for me now. Not that it was ever a problem. I'd only ever
been to a hospital three times back on Earth.
Well, except for my eyes. Still can't see shit without my glasses.
Anyways, after I had woken up Princess Celestia herself came to ask me a few questions.
Most of which I couldn't answer. I didn't remember anything at the time. I couldn't even
remember my own name at the time. (I went as Al for the first three weeks of being here. Al
being short for alien.)
After several hours of questions, the Princess deemed that I was not a threat, but I
was to stay in the castle under her watch for the time being. Just to be sure.
And I stayed that way for about three months. It was nice, but I didn't feel like a quest, but
more along the lines as a subject of study. Which of course I was.
As the days went on, my memories started coming back to me, most of my memories seemed to just reappear.
I soon remembered my life back on Earth and most importantly, my family. Though there are still somethings I can't remember
to this day, but thats just stuff like books I've read, T.V shows I liked what I wanted to do for a living.
You know, the small stuff.
I became extremely worried for them. I'd always had a really protective family. I couldn't even
imagine what they went through when I disappeared. I tried not to think about it.
After my first year in the castle, the questions stopped. I no longer felt like I didn't belong.
I was being treated as an equal. Well, about as much as a then seventeen yearold could be treated.
Around that time, Celestia and I started getting closer with one another. I considered her one
of my closest friends. I could always talk to her and I knew that she would listen and try
to understand what I may have been going through, and in turn she would talk to me about her
issues and the difficulties of running a nation. It was kind of hard to sympathize with her
though. I can't say I knew how it felt having to pass laws in a way that would make
everyone happy or something like that, but I still listened none the less. She was just happy
to have someone who would listen.
We were like that for a long time, and honestly I kinda wish it stayed that way, about
half way into my second year in the castle, she asked me something that surprised me a great deal.
You see, I hadn't given up hope on getting home, so I didn't know what to
say when she asked if she could adopt me as her son.
I believe her exact words were "Well you see Kody, I can't have foals of my own and you're
just like the son I've always wanted. You've always been there to listen and I'd like to
believe that I've been the same for you. We've laughed together, we've cried together, you've
come to me in your times of need and I've tried my hardest to be there for you. I've always
wondered what is was like to be a mother, but now that you're here I think I know. So I
figured that we could make it offical. What do you say? Will you allow me to adopt you?"
Surprised did not discribe how I felt at the moment. Don't get me wrong, she might as well
have been my mother. I thought of her as a motherly figure and I didn't have any problems
with the idea, but I still had a mother back home. A mother who I knew was missing me dearly
at least I'd like to believe she was.
In all honesty, I've never beel close to my mother. We rarely spoke and when we did it was just
a few words that were exchanged. It was completely different with Celestia. It was rare if
we only spoke once a day. Whenever we did speak we could talk for hours if something didn't
stop us. The trouble was that adoption seemed so final. Like I was here to stay and had given up on
getting home.
When I voiced my concern she assured me that getting me home was still a top priority, it's only
that it could take years to establish the right magical connections to get me there and once they
found my home, they were going to open up a gateway so that I would be free to travel back
and forth.
With my only concern extinguished, I agreed to the adoption. From that day forth Celestia became
my Equestian mother and by the governing laws of the universe, I became royalty.
Something that stuck up Blueblood wasn't to happy about, but I don't concern myself with his
feelings. He's a prick.
The citiznens of Equestria were already concerned about my being in the castle, but
with the adoption, word spread like wildfire about the alien becoming the offical heir to
Celestia's throne. Something Blueblood hated even more, which caused me to smile.
Me becoming Celestia's heir always confused me. First off, how could I? It's not like I have
the power to move Celestial objects at will. And second, She's been around for over one
thousand years. It's not like she's going anywhere anytime soon.
I guess it's more of a status kind of thing. Which pissed of a lot of nobles. Every day I
was bombarded with questions, insults and even rocks. They through rocks at me. Assholes.
It got to where I never left the castle. (I still hear rumors that I planned on taking the
throne from the very beginning.) I turned bitter. I stopped talking to the castle staff
a few of who I concidered friends. Which caused them no end of grief.
The worst thing was that Celestia felt horrible about the whole thing. She felt so bad about
it that whenever I walked into the same room as her, she would refuse to look at me out
of shame and would eventually leave without so much as a word to me. Everytime I tried to talk to her she would
make some sort of excuse to leave. I hated it. I'd lost one of the only people who I could
talk to in this world. Without anyone to talk to, my newfound bitterness grew worse still.
As time went on, I left the castle even less. It was an extremely rare sight to even see me
leave my room. I never attended the social events that were hosted at the castle. Which I'm
sure caused more rumors about me. I didn't care though. I no longer cared what those dispicable
nobles thought of me.
I heard that at one year's Grand Galloping Gala, Celestia overheard one of the nobles spreading
more horrible rumors about me. And you know what she did? She slapped him. Just freaking slapped
him. I wish I could've seen that. They said the guy had a fractured jaw afterward. Damn.
Anyways, about a month after word spread about the adoption, I was brooding around in
my room, a scroll materalized on my bed. I picked up the scroll and read it. It said:
Dear Kody,
As of mid-night tonight, you will no longer be residing at
Caterlot Castle. I have purchased a small two story house outside
Whitetail Woods near the settlement of Ponyville for you to
live in.
Bags and boxes will be sent to your chambers within the hour.
Please pack your posessions and be ready to leave at the
appointed time.
,Princess Celestia
I stared down at the paper in my hands in shock. This was the first thing I heard from
Celestia in months, and she was telling me I was getting kicked out. And the worst part was
that it wasn't even a personal. It was just a blank, boring note. It hurt honestly.
I don't know if she knows how much it hurts me that she won't allow me to speak to her.
To finally get something from her and it was something as impersonal as that. I just didn't
know.
After several minutes of me just staring ant the scroll, I heard a knocking on my door.
I slowly stood up and walked over to the door. I opened it to find a female guard on the otherside.
The guard told me that she was there to deliver the packing materials.
She and a few others brought in the boxes and left in a hurry. It didn't take me long to pack the rest of my belongings. I only had three boxes worth
of stuff.
I left and was told by a male pegasus guard to follow them to the carrage that would take me to my new home.
I would have helped with the boxes, but I was in to bad a mood to even think about it and I
had long ago given up trying to help the servants do anything. They would always say something
along the lines of "It's my job to do this." or "You're of the royal family. We take care of you,
not the other way around.". That one always erked me.
The guard led me out of the castle and out to the carrage. The carrage itself looked pretty
strange. Someone had already strapped my boxes to the back. The carrage looked normal except the
golden bars that took the place of the wheels. The bars seemed to be enchanted, because
they radiated a dim light. Oh and they made the carrage float.
I stepped into the carrage and noticed someone was already inside. She had A short mane of red with
streaks of pink and a light green coat. I immediatly recognized the earth-pony as my friend Rose Mary. One of
the castle chefs and one of the few staff members that I found has more personality than a
rock.
"What are you doing here?" I asked her as the guard stepped in and sat next to her.
"I was asked to accompany you to your new home and to perform my new duties as your personal chef there." Rose replied
in a very tired and agitated sounding voice. She certainly looked the part too.
"I guess from the sound of your voice, you'd been sleeping not twenty minuets ago?" I asked
the sleepy chef.
"Ten minutes, sir." She said as her head started to fall.
"What's wrong Rosey? You are speaking so formally." I asked. Panic flashed across her face as
I said this. Any sign of exhuastion disappeared almost instantly.
"What ever do you mean sir? I am speaking as I always have in the presence of your Highness."
She said. Her eyes darted over to the guard next to her. The thing about Rosey was whenever
we were alone she would talk to me as if I were just a normal person, but the instant another
member of the castle staff entered the room she became the most respecting mare you'd ever meet.
Which was really funny, because otherwise she was the total opposite. She talked a lot of
shit to me. Which I would return in just.
"I mean that your acting so strange. Normally you talk a lot of crap to me. Always putting me
me down and making fun of me. Don't act like you don't know." I replied. I looked the guard
who was now peering down at her. She looked up at her and put on a sheepish grin as she started
shaking.
I looked to the guard. His glare growing in intensity as each second passed. After what
must have seemed like an eternity to Rose, the guard asked in a deep and serious voice, "Have
you been disrespecting his Highness?"
"I. . . Um. . ." Was her only reply.
The guard leaned in a bit closer, causing Rose to shrink back into her seat even more. "Well
I can't have you doing that. . . " He said in a smooth yet sinister voice. He leaned back
and gave a broad smile. "Because that's my job."
A look of utter confusion came over Rose's face. "I. . . What?" She asked.
"I said that's my job." The guard looked over to me. "Isn't that right?"
"Well, it's more of a hobby for you than anything." I answered. "Rosey, meet my guard friend
Brick." As I said this, Brick took of his helmet causing his coat to change from the typical
white back to his natural bright orange and his mane to turn from deep blue back to it's dull
red.
Rose's eyes shifted back and forth between Brick and I before she relaxed and sighed. "I'm
to tired for this. I'm going to sleep. Wake me when we get there." She said as she leaned
back and closed her eyes. It wasn't long before a soft snoring was heard from her.
"So Brick. I get why Rose is coming, but why are you here?" I asked.
"Well, Even if you will no longer be in the castle, you still will be needing a guard and since
you and I know each other better than you know any of the other guards, I was the obvious pick."
He explained.
"I see. I just don't know why I have to leave in the first place." I said through a sigh.
"I think the Princess wants you to get away from all of the stress you've been experiencing
because of the nobles." He said.
"I guess that makes sense. I just wish she would have told me herself."
"Has she still been avoiding you?" Brick asked.
"Yeah. I never get the chance to explain. I've even tried leaving notes, but I doubt she has
read them." I said as I leaned back and closed my eyes. "But that doesn't matter right now
anyways. I'm tired. I'm sure you tired. So let's stop talking and get a little shut-eye until
we get to where ever it is we're going, alright?"
"Sounds like a plan." With that, we soon both drifted of to slumber.
I was dreaming about flying. It was typical dream, I know, but this dream usually ends only
only one way and it's never good.
"Kody."
The dream almost always goes like this. I'll be high in the sky, flying like a bird. I would
stay like this for awhile. This was always a pleasant part.
"Kody!"
Then I'd start falling for no reason. I'd just fall. I'd fall for what seemed like hours, yet
the ground never grew closer.I talked to a lot of people about it, but I've still yet to
figure out what it means.
"KODY!"
My eyes shot open but then closed again as soon as the sunlight entered them. "Bah. . . What?"
I asked in my half consious state. I squinted my eyes in an attempt to adjust them to the sunlight,
but instead I saw the sillouete of Rose standing infront of the carrage window.
"It's time to wake up Sleepyhead. We're here." Rose said in a sing-song voice. "We've gotta
get you moved in, so you gotta get up!"
"How are you like this? It's to damn early for anyone to be that cheery." I spit at her.
"What can I say? I'm just a morning pony! Now come on, up and at'em!" Se replied as she hopped
off.
I stepped out of the carrage and looked to the sky and saw that it was slowly rising above the
horizen. I was right. It was to damn early.
"What time is it?" I asked to no one.
"It's a quarter after six." Brick answered as he walked up behind me causing me to jump.
"God damn dude. Did you really have to do that?" I asked him.
"Couldn't resist. Now you gonna help us or not?" Brick asked as he released the straps on
the boxes. As if just to show off, he grabbed two of the three and walked away with them.
"I don't know man. Looks like you've got it to me!" I called after him as I gripped the bottom
of the last box and lifted it up onto my shoulder. The only response I got was a laugh from
the tank of a stallion.
I turned to the two story house. It looked like a large log cabin which went well with the forest
surrounding the back of it. The house was placed right on the edge of the woods. It looked
like a really cozy place.
'But it's still not home.' I thought as I walked through the front door.
Upon entering, the sound of clanging and cutting entered my ears. I set the box down and followed
the sound down the main hall that led from the front door. I turned into a doorway just past
the stairway and saw Rose in the kitchen.
"What are you doing?" I asked her. She turned around with a huge smile on here face.
"Making breakfest. What did think I was doing?" She asked.
"Making break. . . How? We just got here!" I wondered.
"The house is fully furnished, and that includes the kitchen!" She answered excitedly. "And they
didn't skimp out on me! They gave me everything I could have asked for, and it's better then
stuff at the castle! I can make anything! Like. . . "
I left before she could get into her explanation. I didn't do it to be rude, but when she talks
about cooking, she could go on for hours. She has too. I once made the mistake of asking her
what kind of food she enjoyed cooking the most. I spent the next three hours listening to her
go on about the different ways lettus could be used in a dish. So yeah.
I went back to pick the box up but it was gone. I assumed Brick had taken it.
Out of curiosity, I followed the stairs up to the second floor and decided to have a look around.
It was a long hallway with several doors on eachside. I followed the hall while looking into each
room.
The first door on the left opened up to the hall closet which itself was still empty.
The next room was obviously meant for Brick. It was a pretty blank room, except for the workout
equipment that lined the wall, the tredmill that stood infront of a T.V hanging on the wall
and the stand that would hold his armor when he wasn't wearing it. There was also a bed facing away
from the door on the far wall.
Behind door number three was what I guessed to be a guest room. Just a queen sized bed with all of the
fittings, a dresser, a small bookshelf and a closet.
I moved to the door directly across from the guest room. I opened it and steped inside.
Celestia, we might not have spoken in awhile by then, but you still knew how I liked my room.
The room was dark. So dark that you couldn't that you couldn't see your hand in front of your face.
I searched the wall for a lightswitch and flipped it once I found it and the room filled with a dim light.
I looked around the room and saw everything that I could have wanted. One wall was a completely filled
bookshelf. The entire wall was filled to the brim with different kinds of books.
Mystery, adventure, romance, horror, sci-fi, biographies, auto-biographies, history. . . I could go on, but
I think you get the idea. On the wall opposite of the Wall o' Books was a large bulletin board. It was blank as of then, but I knew I would
have it filled in no time. The room had no carpet, but there was a hardwood floor. I had always perfered this.
There were also two nightstands up against the wall with the door with lamps on each. There was a door
near the nightstand on the right. I walked up and opened it.
The door led to a huge bathroom. It had a large tube that was obviously meant more for relaxing
rather than bathing. It looked like it was meant to hold two people. Paired with the tub was
a walk-in shower. From the number and placement of the nozzles, you'd probably have
to be careful not to drown while standing in the water. The number of all of the different kinds of soaps
and other hygine products that were surrounding the two sinks was overwhelming. I decided to leave
before I got lost.
'Why is there two of everything, and what's with the bathroom? I'd never use all of that stuff.' I wondered
to myself as I noticed the two chairs sitting near the wall of books.
But if there was one thing about the room that confused me was the bed, or lack therefor of.
"Is this your room?" Brick asked from the doorway.
I turned to look at him with a confused look on my face. "I think so, but it seems to be missing something
essential." I replied. "Where'd you put my boxes?"
"I set them in the livingroom. Oh by the way, Rose wanted me to let you know that breakfest is ready."
He said as he turned and walked down the hall.
"Already? That was fast. I guess It's called breakFAST for a reason." I joked as I followed him. He stopped mid-stride,
turned around and looked at me with an extremely serious expression. I stared back at him for several seconds.
"Screw you. I'm halarious."
"So. . . Whatcha think?" Rose asked with a smile.
"Ughh. . ." Answered the mound of fuzzy orange muscle that was once Brick.
"Yeah. . ." I agreed as I looked around the dining room.
"Well I'm glad you like my pancakes so much. I'll know to make them more often."
"Yay. . . " We said in unison. A loud belch came from Brick.
"Oh you flatter me." Rose said with a laugh as she picked up the plates.
"Yo Rosey, you don't have to do that. I'll get the dishes." I said as I tried to get up from my chair, but was stopped
by a firm hand pushing down on my shoulder.
"Not happening. The kitchen is my area and so are all of the resposibilites that come with it, so you don't
need to worry your little head." She said with a sinister glare.
"Okay then." I said looking at the hand that felt like it was getting tighter. "Well, I'm gonna head up to my room
and try to find my bed."
"Find you bed? What do you mean?" Rose asked as she released my shoulder.
"It's not up there. Everything else is up there, just not the bed." Brick answered, seemingly have come back
to life.
"Strange. I'm sure it's up there though. I was told that the place was fully furnished. If I had to guess, I think
the Princess did something over the top with it." Rose said with a shrug as she walked beck into the kitchen.
"I wouldn't doubt it. She always did stuff like that for me." I said as I got up from my chair and walked out into
the main hall.
I walked up the stairs and down the hall to my room. I opened the door and flipped the switch on to illuminate
the room. I started looking around again when I noticed a slip of paper on the left nightstand. It read:
The remote is in the nightstand drawer.
I pocketed the paper and opened the drawer. Inside was a small white remote with two bottons which read
"UP" and "DOWN" respectively. I pushed the up button and waited. After several seconds, a wirring sound came
from below me. I looked down to see the floor had retracted and and a outfitted king size bed was rising up.
"Okay, now this is a bit over the top." I said.
"A bit?" Rose said from beside me, causing me to jump for the second time his morning. Making her giggle.
"Is this going to become a thing now? You two startling me like that?" I asked Rose as she flopped onto the
bed. I looked down and say that it fit in perfectly with the floor. There were no gaps left from when it rose.
"Nah, I'm just messing with yah. Come. It's like a cloud." She replied as she sunk into the bed. I laid down
next to her and sighed.
"If this feels like a cloud, then I'm jealous of the pegasi." I said.
A third flop came from the otherside of the bed.
"Ooooh, don't be. This is way better than any cloud I've ever been on." Brick said with a sigh.
"Is that so?" I asked him.
"Eeyup." Was his answer. We sat there for a few minutes just enjoying the silence nad the bed.
"Well, " I said through a yawn. "I hate to kick you guys out but I'm still tired, so I'm going to have to ask you
guys to leave whilst I take a nap. If I'm not awake by the time the sun goes down, come get me. Alright?"
"Sure thing man. Come on Rose, big guy needs some shut eye." Brick replied as he got up and hoisted Rose
over his shoulder. "Hey!" She yelled in protest. He walked out with her, shut off the lights and closed the
door.
I closed my eyes and went off into a dreamless sleep.
It had been about three weeks after we'd moved in. It was late at night and both Rose and Brick had gone
off to bed. I was down in the living room trying to finish a book I had been reading when I heard
a knock at the front door. I sighed and set the book down to go see who it could be.
I looked through the little peep-hole in the door to see a mare standing on the other side. She kept looking
back and forth, as if she expected something to pop out from behind her.
I stood there looking at the strange mare. She had a pale grey coat and a shining mane that seemed of be made of flowing gold.
She looked a little short. If I had to guess, I'd say about five feet tall? Somewhere around there. She was a unicorn too, by the looks of it.
She didn't fit in with the scenery at all. It was almost night and
I live just outside Whitetail Woods, so it's dirty and dark around here. She on the otherhand
has a aura of sophistication about her, like she belongs somewhere like Canterlot or Manehatten.
I peered past her and saw that she had brought some luggage with her.
The atmosphere seemed to be getting to her. She keeps looking back at the woods then back at
my door with an ever growing expression of worry and slight fear.
'What is she doing here? She must be lost. Yeah, she's totally lost. But then where would she
be going? There's nothing out here besides Brick, Rose and I.' I thought as I continued to look at her.
She raised her fist to the door to knock once again. Just as her fist was about to strike
the door, I called out "What do you want?", causing her to jump.
"Um. . . Hello?" The mare called back as she move slightly closer to the door.
"What Do You Want?" I said a little louder.
The rise in my voice caused her to shrink away. "I. . . Is this Kody Smith's house?" Asked
the mare meekly. She had some sort of accent, but I couldn't place it. French, maybe? Actually
I guess it Prench here.
You know, Prance/France? Haha, horse pun.
'Hmm, I quess she isn't lost, but why is she here?' I wondered. "That all depends on why
you're here. Now again I ask. What do you want?"
"My name is Golden Luster. . . I'm. . . for. . ." She seemed to have muttered something under her breath, but I couldn't
make it out.
'I really wish she would just come out with it. I'm to tired for nonsense.' I thought.
"Well Ms. Luster, don't you think it's a bit late to be knocking on other's doors?"
I called to Ms. Luster. This seemed to take her back.
"W. . .What?" She asked as her expression grew even more worrisome.
"I said It's late. We're not accepting guests right now." I explained to the confused Ms. Luster.
"But. . . But. . ." She started to explain, only to stop as I switched off the porch light.
I continued to watch her through the peep-hole as she started to walk away. The expression
on her face turned from worry to saddness.
I turned away from the door and started making my way to my room to prepare for bed for the
night. I made it about halfway upstairs before I heard a blood curdling scream come
from ouside.
I spun around on my heel and made a mad dash for the front door. I reached it, threw open
the locks and stepped through the door. I scanned the area and saw Ms. Luster unconsious
on the ground.
I hurriedly made my way over to her form and saw nothing out of the ordinary. I looked around,
but still saw nothing. I turned my attention back to Ms. Luster and sighed.
I kneeled down and slid my arms underneath her body and gently lifted her up, being careful
not to touch her head for fear of exciting any possible injuries. As I turned back in the directiom
of my house I heard a small croak. I looked down at my feet and say a small toad.
"Is this your doing?" I asked the toad. It just stared back up at me with curious eyes. I
shook my head and continued back to my home and into the livingroom.
I gently set her down on the couch, placing a pillow under her head. As I did, my hand grazed
across some of her hair. It felt soft, almost like silk. 'Yeah, she's defiently the Canterlot
type. The mares around here don't really care for their manes like this. They usually
go for the more natural thing I guess. Well except Rarity of course.' I thought to myself as
I looked over the mare infront of me. She wans't bad looking. Not bad looking at all.
She was short, but not to short. She had curves in all the right places and if I had to hazard
a guess, then I would say Bcup sized breasts. She had a cute face too. She had a very innocent
look about her.
"You'd better be happy I'm not some sick pervert who would take advantage of you in a stiuation
like this." I said.
I lifted up her head and examined the back of it to check for injuries. From the looks of it,
there was nothing but a small bump, so she didn't hit her head to hard. 'She should be fine
by morning.' I thought as I stood up. I walked over to one of my hall closets (which were now full)
and picked out a blanket for her.
I walked back over to her sleeping form and drapped the blanket over her. I noticed I had
left the door open when I brought Ms. Luster in, so I walked over to the door to close it, but then
I saw her luggage still sitting where she fell. With a sigh, I stepped outside again to
get it. She had brought two bags with her and they were pretty big bags too. I knelt down
and grasped the handles on both and lifted.
Or I tried to lift them. I nearly fell flat on my face because of the unexpected weight. They
seemed like they were filled with cement. Luckily they had wheels on them, or else I don't
think I could have moved them. I managed to roll them into the house and placed them by the door.
After locking up, I headed up to my room to get ready for bed. As I did so, my mind wouldn't leave
the sleeping mare in my living room. I never did get an answer from her. I made it to Brick's room and
opened the door.
"Brick. . . Brick. . . Brick!" I called to his sleeping form causing him to jolt awake.
"Huh, what? What's going on?" He asked sleepily.
"There's a mare asleep down on the couch in the living room. Her name is Golden Luster, so don't freak out
when you see her in the morning. She scares easy." I whispered to him. He gave me a thumbs up and fell back
into his bed. I walked out of his room and into mine.
'I wonder what tomorrow will bring.' I thought as I threw the covers over my body. I quickly fell
asleep a few seconds after my head hit the pillow.
A few minutes later a scroll materialized and fell on my nightstand.
