Dead on the inside

A tragic event takes place in a hospital and the doctors are forced to make a man named Inhio make a difficult decision - To either save his wife, Angela, or have her give birth to his child and pass away in its stead. The man chose his wife over the baby. After the couple leaves the hospital and are on their way home, they get attacked by bandits on their way home. The man tries to reason with them, but ends up fighting for his life after realizing that words are of no use here. After getting beaten, he finds himself helplessly watching as the bandit leader tries to murder his wife in cold blood, but the man's will to defend his wife proved to be stronger than anything, and the man was able to drive the bandits away.

After carrying his wife back home, the couple tries to put the past behind them. After half a year had passed, the wife tries to convince the man to try for a baby again. Inhio doesn't want that and strongly protests against it, but Angela manages to convince him that everything will be fine, but not without swearing to him that she would make the same choice he did if the situation should repeat itself, only with herself being the one to make the choice. The couple wait until a full year passes since that tragic day.

Nine months later, the couple finds themselves at the hospital, once again, and the situation is the same as before, only this time, the wife is the one to make the decision. The husband is certain that she isn't about to break the promise she made to him, but, unknown to him, she does, and the man rushes into the operation room, only to have the hand of his wife run cold in his arms. After letting out a loud scream, the man falls unconscious and is dragged out into the corridor, where the nurse hands him his child, once he had regained consciousness. The man had lost any will to go on, and was completely emotionless and careless. He did not care for the baby, but the nurse managed to convince him to drop his daughter off at an orphanage. After that, the man carried on with his life as if nothing had happened, only he never laughed, smiled, cried or cringed again for 8 long years.

He kept his place at work, only because he had a good relationship with his boss who understood the pain he was going through, but his co-workers still didn't care much for the way he acted. The friends Inhio used to share a drink with at a bar every now and then, they also decided to switch tables after realizing that Inhio just wasn't the same as he was. After 8 years, Inhio decides to visit the orphanage to see if his daughter is doing all right. He finds out that a certain couple has shown interest in her, and begs them to take her, hoping, that they would raise her well. After that day, Inhio goes to sleep and acts as if nothing had happened.
