Chapters “Alright everypony, time to go home. The party is over,” the owner of the day club told everypony. “Vinyl turn off your wubs,” he told the DJ.
“What did you say Boss?” Vinyl Scratch yelled over the ridiculous sounds vibrating out of all six 5 foot speakers. “I can’t hear you!”
“I said time to turn off the soun-” the music died and the DJ pony walked out from behind the booth with all her equipment already packed up and floating beside her. Her horn alight with a dull but vibrant blue aura. “Nevermind, it seems you got the message,” the owner said, a you-are-a-showoff look on his face.
“Later Boss,” Vinyl said as she walked out the door, leaving The Scratch Club behind her feeling very joyous.
Vinyl couldn't wait to get back to her house, Octavia was suppose to make that bomb meal she makes every now and then, and Rainbow Dash was supposed to stop by too and say hello and stay for a bit.
She hasn't talked to Rainbow in awhile, since she has been so busy at the weather factory since winter is around the corner and she has to train the new weather ponies who are staying in Ponyville. “Watchya doing Vinyl?” the grey mare asked.

“I was looking in your eyes for about five minutes. Are you alright?” Derpy Hooves asked as she bumped into a tree, an apple hitting her on her head.
“Yeah I’m fine.” Vinyl started “Rainbow is suppose to come over today. So I have a little anxiety, that’s all.”
“Oh, Rainbow is a great pony!” Derpy had a small sparkle show up in her eyes. “She’s helped me a lot, even when I make her mad by flying the wrong direction almost every Winter Wrap Up. I’m not very good at directions and she knows I am not a super duper flyer like her, but she helps me all the time.” Derpy smiled largely, turning around to see in front of her; they were nearing Vinyls place.
“Ah my very nice, homey, house,” Vinyl said as they got closer to the well put together brick house. Her roommate was watering the bushes and flowers in front of their house.
“Oh I forgot, you have a package from somepony. It doesn't have a return address and it’s very light,” the mailmare had a small box that would fit about two bricks in it. “I will just set it down by the front door.”
The mailmare flew over, bumped her head on the door and dropped the box very softly by the door. “Have a good day Vinyl, you too Octavia.” the mailmare flew by Vinyl and bumped into the tree next to her. Vinyl giggled a little.
“Have a good rest of the day Derpy!” she called out, over her shoulder. “Don’t run into any walls. I don’t want to have to see you back in the hospital.”
In the past Derpy has run into walls because she was flying too fast and her eyes blurred. She already has bad vision and when she flies too fast her eyes blur. Vinyl has been there for her a lot over the years, ever since she had received the mailmare job. It’s a lot harder to read maps and names with her eye vision, so Vinyl helped her out on learning where everypony lived.
Thinking about that brought up memories of long nights and a lot of fun. Vinyl blushed as she recalled those memories and ran into the fence gate. falling on her butt, she shook her head to get rid of those amazing and deviant thoughts. Her equipment stayed put in the air.
Octavia looked over to where Vinyl was sitting in front of the gate. Seeing her sitting there wasn't very confusing, she usually forgets to open the gate anyway. So it wasn't an unusual sight, but the blush on her cheeks caught Octavia's attention.
Vinyl, knowing Octavia, tried to quickly cover it up but that didn't work too well. Octavia was already heading over. Vinyl got back onto her hooves and started opening the gate. When it was opened, Octavia was already there, waiting.
“You always blush after talking to Derpy, Why is that? Are those memories just so juicy that you can’t help thinking about her? Or are you still mare-crushing on her?” Octavia asked.
Vinyl sighed, “You ask that every time even if I don’t blush. Are you just worried about me turning on you, cause I won’t. I have told you that more than five times,” she shot back a little tempered by her repetitive questions.
“No, I just get a little jealous,” Octavia looked away. “ I know that’s kind of fillieish, but you still seem interested in her.”
Vinyl laughed, it’s still hard for Octavia to tell her feelings, especially feelings of jealousy. “You are fine. Everypony gets that feeling.”
Octavia perked up a little bit. “Okay, well we should go open that package then. Seems like it might have food in it.”
Her house was so clean that it seems like it would have taken a few days to get it this clean, but somehow Octavia finds time to make everything shine when she cleans.
Vinyl walked over to the couch and set her DJ equipment by the closet and the package by her side; she sat on the couch. Octavia sat down next to her.
Before Vinyl went to reach out for the box, Octavia spoke up. “I already made dinner, it’s just being heated. I’d thought we would wait for Rainbow Dash, since she likes this meal too and it’s been awhile since she has been over. It’s a nice gesture either way.” Octavia being so thoughtful was always a plus on Vinyls list. Vinyl nodded.
She reached out for the box and noticed a letter taped to the top, so she switched her movement to grab it. When she had it untapped and hovering in the air by her magic, she opened it.
Dear Vinyl,
This may seem very weird that you are receiving a package with no return address, but I assure you that it was sent this way for reasons I cannot put down on paper. And as a side note, you don’t even know me, so it would make little to no sense to put my name on the returning address, and since I don’t want it back either. You will need to open this package five minutes after reading this.

“Well what does it say Vinyl?” Octavia asked, her eyes have a sparkle of interest in them. Her tail twitched with excitement.
“To open the package five minutes after reading the letter,” Vinyl replied.
“Sounds like it’s a timed present or something that has to be aged with time, or a song. Songs are good,” Octavia said, a little bit of interest leaving her voice.
Vinyl looked at the clock sitting on top of the fireplace. Well, Rainbow Dash is suppose to be here in two minutes, and three minutes later she is suppose to open the box. Rainbow’s gonna wanna hug for that long. Well, I’ll have to tell her to wait I guess. She has patience. Vinyl thought as she started the wait.
At the two minute mark, there was a knock on the door. Octavia got up and went to open it. Rainbow flew over and sat on the couch attempting to give Vinyl hug but Vinyl put up a hoof and said wait, Rainbow listened. Octavia got back up and walked over to a chair.
Vinyl looked up at the clock, it had been five minutes. She lifted the box onto the coffee table and tore the flaps open. What she saw made her speechless.
“What is it?” Rainbow asked. She saw Vinyls mouth open a little. “Never mind I’ll look myself.” When rainbow looked in she was surprised to see a yellow and white toad sitting there looking at Vinyl. “Now who would send you a toad? I mean they are so not cool. And a little stinky too,” she waved a hoof in front of her nose to get the smell away. She looked back in the box.
“Ah… OK that’s interesting. I now have a pet... toad?” Vinyl commented with a what-the-Tatarus voice. As she said that the toad croaked, did a small hop and then licked Vinyl on the mouth and nose.
“Eww! That is so gross,” Rainbow threw out there. Octavia, who was also looking into the box, withdrew her head and did a little gagging noise. Vinyl just rubbed her mouth and nose of the toad slobber.
She looked up at Rainbow Dash and then ran towards the window, jumping off the couch so fast Rainbow Dash flinched a little. Vinyl had never heard about a pony who could lack reading. She, herself would feel lost if she couldn’t read. She felt she had to do something. “Um, Derpy?”

“Do you want to listen to me read my book? I just started, and I have only read the first two lines. I could restart if you want me to.”
Derpy’s eyes went straight for a moment. She was so happy and elated that a pony was willing to pay attention to her. Nopony ever did. She was lonely. “We can’t explain what Pinkie does Rainbow, It’s Pinkie.” The alicorn Twilight Sparkle popped by Rainbow by ways of teleporting. Rainbow jumped at the pop of the Teleport.
“I guess you're right.”
“Well what’s up? Why am I here?” Twilight looked over. “Oh.”

Octavia was just about to arrive at the shop when they teleported. “Oh pony phooey”
“Hurry up and close all the doors and windows before Vinyl splits.” Vinyl was already running around licking things that she hadn’t yet licked. A bowl, another book case, and the couch.
When Vinyl ran by the couch, she knocked over the package that had started this mess. The toad was still in it and fell out when it got knocked.

“The toad? Well tha-” Rainbow Dash was cut off.
“No that.” Twilight pointed to a darkened spot on the floor.

“Twilight!” Vinyl shouted when she was able to, snapping Twilight out of her laughing.

“Is it Octavia?” Pinkie asked. “How about Fluttershy. No, ok then-”
Rainbow went into the kitchen and grabbed a muffin and shoved it in Pinkie’s mouth. “No, it’s Derpy Hooves. She has been Vinyl’s best friend even before I knew her.”
While the others were talking, Vinyl was able to get a little control of herself and stop her running around and just sat in a random place on the floor.
