The beginning of the season, spring, had come to light and it finally arrived in Ponyville. With the snow melted and thawed when it's the beginning of the end of Hearth's Warming Eve, nothing else could be said about the scenery as it was breathtaking. Ponies would say it would be the best time to have a nice picnic in some sweet spots for them to try out.
Most ponies were out and about in the morning hoping whatever business they were going to do would be worthwhile. Others tried disciplining themselves by following and obeying by their new year's resolution and some were straining agonizingly for the new year's resolution to be carried out and be done with it. They also sometimes wish they didn't use that resolutions themselves as others often tempted them with it.
The schoolfillies were more or less like that. It was also the day when they came back to school. Most, as expected, they were not eager for the day. Being in school again to them felt like when you are continuing to finish your sentences in a prison. Some who were mischievous tried to prevent their parents from forcing them go to school was by making sure they caught a disease, so they could avoid it. Or at the very least they could do was to play sick and made it so believable the parents wouldn't even think twice what they have to do, letting them stay at home and tended to him or her to make sure they would be cured.
Meanwhile with all these things happening outside, Twilight Sparkle, who was now living in a crystal-ish treehouse was now in the basement experimenting a few chemicals there. Not a big surprise there really. Her friends already knew she often did that besides studying or reading whenever there was a free time on her hooves.
Some of the chemicals contained a bunch of hazardous effect if not protected properly. Painful-sounding warnings and labels like corrosive, explosive, very flammable liquids, toxic. Many of these would bring undesirable side effects and symptoms that could scar them for life if not handled properly enough to get.
Luckily for Twilight, she didn't grew up just to forget or ignore these safety measures. She was already prepared by following extra precautions and wearing protections like masks, gloves and safety goggles. The substance she was experimenting was corrosive but not effective towards the gloves she was handling, hence the use of it.
The solution began to fizz as she stirred it with a glass rod. Once she got the right level of fizzing, she trotted her way to one of the liquids in the test tube she had on the rack. She removed one of them that contained a green glowing one and got back to the solution in the beaker n the table.
And now, the moment of truth began. The final step: adding a drop of the liquid she had into the solution and she would be done. Hopefully this will work enough to synthesize the potion she was trying to make for the past week, and this was the third time she had to remake and partially alter the recipe to get the desired effect. And it's finally time...
She then very slowly tipped the test tube to get the liquid out. She expected for it turn into a droplet but much to her frustration it remained fixated on the rest of the liquid like melted jelly. She bobbed the tube down but not too much for it to pour more than she needed. And at last, the drop had been formed. As it fell, everything felt like it was in slow motion. The world around began to dissipate around her as she was so focused on the drop. The distance between the droplet began to recede. As it got closer she closed her eyes, closer, closer, aaaaaaannnnnnnndddddd.....
BOOM!
And not surprisingly it didn't work. And the result of that failure was obviously devastating. The smoke began to dissipate, revealing the damage it caused. Black chars of burnt wood was present on the table, broken bottles and among other things that broke there are remains splintered wood strewn around the floor and the ceiling slightly caving in. And what's more she had herself almost fully blackened from the explosion. Although she was in pain since her head was so close just now, that would be the least of her worries as she was still in the same stance despite the blast. As she could recall, she had the same result as the first two she attempted, but the massive blast and damage would already beaten their record of impact and destruction it caused.
Despite the anger already boiling inside her, it began to cool down as she can know conclude this experiment was not going to work anyway. She might as well scrap the idea and find something else to do with her free time, reading books would be a much better alternative than this. Not surprisingly that was her second most favourite hobby she had.
But first what she needed to do was cleaning up the mess she caused. She was not going to ask Spike for this one though, because the last time she did he accidentally hurt himself so bad she needed to get him to the hospital for stitching on his head, luckily for him he was knocked out when he did. She might as well let him rest while the wound heal. She took the nearest rag there was and wiped her face, cleaning away most of the gunge. She then tossed it aside and went upstairs. She must have put a broom around here somewhere, maybe in her room perhaps.
Her bedroom door opened as she was coming in, but slowly to prevent waking Spike up sleeping in his basket, whatnot with it creaking and all that. Spike had been sleeping for the rest of the day and had been like that for a day now, which was peculiar considering the doctor never mentioned to her anything about coma or anything. But if it was, that's another big problem she needed to take care of and she didn't want that to happen.
Anyway, she gave him the benefit of the doubt though, the dragon had suffered enough already for her. Then she remembered, the broom was somewhere near him, and it didn't take long to figure out where exactly it would be. She took a few silent steps towards the chest and slowly unlatched it, making only a hint of sound when the fastener collided. The lid was now free to open and she helped herself getting the broom out.
Bingo she congratulated herself. She closed the chest back and exited the room. She then made her way down back to the lab in the basement.
With the last of the broken glass was then scooped up and thrown away, she finally had it better again. However, she noticed something wrong when she got back upstairs and looked outside through the window. The sky turned light blue but not the way it was this morning. That meant the sky had already lost daylight and the night was already rolling in.
Oh no, I missed the appointment with Rainbow Dash about that potion I was making this afternoon. she screamed inside, but all went out as a heavy sigh as she rubbed her temple. The pain in her head was beginning to be subtle, as if that would help her day. The responsibilities, anxiety, and all other tasks she needed to do wasn't making it easy on her and it was bringing her down, mentally.
It's okay, Twilight. You can explain to Rainbow Dash what happened and hopefully she will find pity on me this time. she rubbed the back of her head. She needed to get some rest. Twilight had experienced stress as she did every day, but sometimes after long periods of time it could affect her. The headache was the first sign she thought, although quite mild at the moment who knows it would probably lead to something else down the road.
She went to her bedroom casually, ignoring whether she woke Spike up or not, she slumped down on the bed before readjusting her position to be in a more comfortable state. She lifted the covers and placed it above her. She was going to have a big day tomorrow, and tomorrow... hopefully it would be better. She closed her eyes and was out like a light.
