Prologue: A Jealous Sister

Load Full StoryNext Chapter

A thousand years ago, two sisters ruled the land known as Equestria. The eldest raised the sun, while the younger sister reigned over the moon. For generations, this had played out. Yet, in the mind of one of the sisters, something sinister was brewing.

In a castle, situated within a large forest, a horse with a flowing rainbow mane, and white coat, laid in her bed, tossing and turning. For, on this night, only she would know how close Equis came to destruction.

She thinks it's sooo hard, having to make the night sky. She knows NOTHING of hardship. While she lazies about, only having to tend to the moon and stars, we've been the one keeping this kingdom together. It is us that has the eyes of a nation looking at, and all SHE does is laze about, like she was taking an afternoon nap.

No, she is too young to truly understand what we are going through.

She knows, and she laughs at our hardships. She knows that we barely get anytime to ourselves, because we keep the barbarians at bay. Well, we should be more like Luna.

What do you mean?

I'm saying that we should just keep the sun up. Just for a little while. We've deserved a rest.

Maybe...

And, don't you worry your soft head. I'll wake you when our break is over.

Yeah, yeah. We could take a break.

And we'll get it, right after we tear that little foal of the night's head off.

Yea~wait, WHAT?! That's our sister your talking about!

She is an obstacle!

She is a living being, and I won't let us~no, I won't let YOU harm her.

Oh, as if you could stop~

Get out.

WHAT?

Get out of MY HEAD!!!

The dreamscape exploded as two alicorns slide across the ground. On one side stood the white alicorn, with anger and desperation in her eyes. On the other, a red alicorn, with a mane of fire, and bearing the same cutie mark as the white one, lying on the ground, looking beaten up.

"What are you?" the white alicorn said, worried.

"I'm you, Celestia," the red alicorn replied, trying to get up, but with a smile on her face, "I am the force that, when you are too soft on others, I discipline them. When you think to offer mercy, I'm the force that drives you to not give them mercy. I am the other side of your coin, Celestia. I am Daymare Sun."

"I don't care who you are, Daymare, but this is where we part." Celestia then encased Daymare in a glass ball, trapping her.

"What are you doing?" Daymare screeched, terror and rage in her dragon eyes.

"I will not allow you to harm my sister, or any of my subjects."

"Oh, like Luna isn't thinking the same thing. She will betray you, Celly, and, when she does, I'll be there, laughing, AHAHAHA~

"Enough! Goodbye." The white alicorn then engulfed Daymare with a ball of light, and she vanished.

A red ball with a sun symbol appeared at the bottom of a mountain, where it remained for centuries. Until, one day, fate changed it's course. An orc, flanked by redguard and a nord, picked up the orb.

"Captain," the nord said, "What is it?"

"I don't know, Brimguard," the orc replied, "But I have a feeling we, the Dawnguard, may find a use for it."

Author's Note

Now our story begins. In the next chapter, we'll be meeting the protagonist.

Side note, Celestia's nightmare happened before Luna became Nightmare Moon. I felt that, just because Celestia is older and wiser, it doesn't mean that she's isn't corruptible. This 'fight' is my reason why we see here as such. She banished her dark side. I also do not own the picture of Daymare Sun, nor do I know who did it. But I do give credit to the artist of the picture nevertheless.

Now, let's start this journey.
