Chapters The feud started with my mum's great grandma and my dad's great grandpa who from the age of 17 had fallen deeply in love. They couldn't help but spend all of their time together doing all of their favourite things like reading, writing poetry and riding bicycles. One day my dad's great grandpa proposed to mum's great grandma and she accepted with no words but a big kiss and a hug. They spent months planning for the wedding, sorting out all of the little details with the biggest of thoughts. When the big day came everything was going smoothly until someone shouted out that they couldn't marry each other as the man who shouted out loved the bride. This made the groom think that she had feelings for the man and this caused a dispute between each of the two families. None of the generations had let the feud go and carried on the tradition of hating each other.
Even though mum was only little at the time she understood that nobody was willing to like or even meet with one of the members of the other family. She went to the little boy's house everyday and they played for hours on end until one day the boy's mother came over and asked her what her name was, she said Pearl Shimmer. The boy's mother asked if she belonged to the family across the other side of town, she said no even though she was as she knew that if she said yes then there would be trouble.
Years went by and when they got to the age of 17 they realised they were in love.
My parents absolutely loved each other ,after spending so many years together it almost seemed like it was bound to happen. Mum believed that the fates brought them together but one day out if the blue she told dad that she was not able to see him anymore. He was worried and followed her back to her house to make sure everything was okay. What he found made him feel like he should have found out more about her earlier and ran back home without saying anything to his family. That night he thought about the things he had seen and wondered what to do ,either tell his parents and let them get split apart or stay with her and not tell them. Either way it was going to probably make things worse. That same night mum was thinking about what she had said to him. She wondered what to do as well and stayed up all night thinking and worrying about it.
In the morning they both set off to meet each other and talk about that evening. The met at the park in the middle of town and sat on the swings with the little children running about around them, for a while there was an awkward silence. Eventually mum said sorry and explained why she said they couldn't see each other again with tears running down her cheeks. Dad admitted that he had followed back to her house and saw the family she belonged to and gave her a big, long hug.
They went back to their houses to get their family to come to the park without knowing the other family was going to be there. When they got there mum and dad were not sure how the family would react to this and sure enough they got in to a very big argument. Mum and dad explained they were in love and their very own families banished them from the town. They had never been out of town and they don't know where to go.
My family is very happy now but before my parents got married there was anything but happiness as my dad's family and my mum's family had been in a feud that had started 150 years ago. When my mum, Pearl Pages, was a child she was taught to always hate my dad's family and never got to know them personally. She was desperate to meet them and snuck over to their house one day to see if they were as bad as her family said.
After opening the front door she quietly crept in and hid under the couch. A little boy who was about her age came running down the stairs with a big lollypop in one hoof and a sea shell in the other. When she saw the lollypop she couldn't help but whisper yum but it turns out her whispering, is talking to everyone else. The little boy had heard her and came over to see what made the noise. She realised that there was nowhere to escape so she trotted out from under the couch and showed herself. The first question he asked was if she wanted a drink ,she said no and they played for the whole day without thinking about her poor parents who were probably worried sick about her. She couldn't tell the time but she knew it was time to go. She galloped home and said that she had been at the park and just left it at that, she couldn't risk telling her parents that she had been to 'that family's' house. They would be furious at her which would make her feel very bad.
At dinner that night they explained to my mum what had started the feud. She didn't know what to say as she felt that any words would give the impression that she knew something so she nodded her head and listened contently to the story she had longed to know.
Mum and dad didn't know what to do so they walked for several days, stopping at the nearest bench to rest or pond to wash off. After a while they found a hotel that could lend them the room for the night, they stayed up all night thinking about what they could do as they manager in the hotel was annoyed that they had stayed there for a week free of charge. they decided to leave the hotel and find someone to help them in the morning.
The next morning they went to the local church as the people of the town said that he is a very wise and intelligent man who is willing to help anyone. When they arrived at the church they saw an old man with a long white beard and big, bushy eyebrows. They went over to him and asked if he was the priest everyone talks about and he answered yes in a low, gritty voice. He lead them in to the angelic church and asked them what seemed to be the problem. They explained what had happened and he said that this problem had never come across him in his whole career so we left in the same state that we were in when we entered the big church.
After a few hours, while they were sitting on a bench in the town centre and all of a sudden dad got down on one knee and proposed to mum. She started crying her eyes out and whispered yes but this time it sounded more like a whisper. They asked if they could have their wedding in the church and the priest agreed to let them use it for free. Planning only took about three weeks as they borrowed everything apart from the wedding rings which they got for £25 each. Mum had gotten a job in the library and dad had earnt some money from repairing bicycles. The money from the jobs payed for the rings which were 85% off.
After the wedding they decided to buy a house so they saved up their money and bought a stunning four bedroom house where we live now. Mum and dad knew that to make the family complete they needed children so they had me and my little brother Clear Breeze. We have never met the rest of our family but we don't mind as now we can make up for what has happened in the past and I have never been happier!
