Flight
-chapter two-
Load Full StoryRainbow Dash landed swiftly on to a plush white cloud, tucking her wings back. She searched the crowd of Pegasi in Cloudsdale for her dear friend Spit Fire. A couple minutes passed and she sighed, starting to get anxious.
She heard a whistle and turned to see her fiery headed friend. She happily trotted over and gave her a warm hug.
"Geez that's the second time today I get surprised!"
"Maybe you're off your game today, eh?"
"Oh, you wish!"
They laughed in unison, Fire stepping back to look Rainbow up and down. she rested a hoof on her shoulder and smiled.
"You look good as always."
Rainbow stuck out her tongue, cocking her head slightly.
"Don't I always?"
Fire shoved her playfully and giggled.
"Conceited much?"
"You look good too, sugar. Maybe even better."
She winked at Fire and puckered her lips. Fire burst into a frenzy of laughter.
"Holy Celestia, Dash you are cracking me up."
She put a hoof on her stomach and attempted to regain her composure.
"How come I've never seen this side of you before?"
"Well stick around, there's more where that came from."
Rainbow studied Fire's face as she began to relax. Ever since she'd met her she'd admired every aspect of her being.
And since she'd come back home from the Wonderbolts Academy, she and Spitfire had become good friends, sending each other letters a couple times each month. It felt like a lifetime since they had an encounter and she'd been so eager to reconnect with a mare who'd had something in common with her. So when she had heard from Fire that she'd be in town for the annual young Flyers competition, naturally she jumped at the chance to reunite with her fellow fast flyer.
"So where do you wanna go? We could grab some grub."
Fire smiled and nodded.
"Yeah that sounds pretty great right about now."
She rubbed her stomach and chuckled.
"Race ya to Ponyville?"
Fire grinned, nodding.
"Oh, you're so on!"
They each took their stance and prepared to take off. Rainbow looked at fire, grinning.
"On your mark, get set, go!"
They spread their wings in unison and flew down toward the ground at lightening speed, yet still appearing graceful.
Rainbow picked up speed, getting ahead of Fire by a couple inches as they reached the town square. Fire flew above her, when suddenly she'd caught a cramp in her right wing, she cried out in pain trying to hold herself up with one wing. Her left wing gave out and she fell atop Rainbow Dash, as Rainbow looked up to see if she was okay, before she could respond they came crashing to the ground.
Rainbow rubbed her head, a bit taken aback by the fall. She immediately looked to Spit Fire, sitting atop her, attempting to fan out her wings.
"You okay?"
Fire's ears perked up as she turned to Dash.
"Never better, these stupid things just decided to cramp on me last minute."
Rainbow smiled, relieved her friend was ok.
"I take it I won then?"
Rainbow asked with a devious smirk. Fire chuckled and shoved Rainbow lightly.
"Dashie?"
Rainbow sat up, unaware she'd been laying on the ground next to a vegetable cart. She'd know that soft voice anywhere. She turned her head to see a wide eyed Flutter Shy gazing upon she and Fire from where she stood as if in a trance.
"Oh, hey Flutters."
