One and the first Schoolday
Tod was not a normal boy, even as a toddler. He would talk in some incoherent language to people that weren't there, walk in odd ways, have panic attacks for nothing,
he was very, very odd. Due to the fact that these symptoms weren't going away fast enough, his parents kept him home schooled until his symptoms finally almost disappeared, he was in sixth grade by then and well over the rest of his class.
"Now kids, we're getting a new student today. Come on up dear." Said the teacher, Ms. Faust
A boy of about eleven slowly made his way to the teacher's desk, hiding himself halfway behind it.
"Um... My name... is... Tod. I'm from... from... Montana and... I hope that... We can be.........friends."
"Good, now take your seat, you're behind Charles, the boy in white there."
Seated in the back corner with a window seat, he found himself staring wistfully at the window, wandering around on four hooves, going to school for the first time... At least his other self's first time.
Sweet Shine was walking alone on the streets of Canterlot, heading to her first day of school vaguely aware of the the other ponies looking at her strangely, she had a reputation for being a slight nutter, went into comas, spoke odd languages, even had panic attacks. She had only been allowed to attend public schooling in the city because her symptoms were all but vanishing which to her was a very bad thing. Finally approaching the school, several fillies blocked her way.
“Where d’ya think you're going, hornless?” asked one
“Yeah, where do you think you’re goin’?” parroted another
“This school’s private.” said the first, apparently the leader of this little organization.
“No, it isn’t.” Replied Shine, pointing out the obvious and clearly confused by the other filly’s statement. “It says ‘Canterlot District 4 Public Junior High’ above the gate doesn’t it? This is where I was told to go”
“Um... WHAT!? N-nopony told us that a hornless loser would be attending!” said one of the cronies.
“What makes you think you have the right to attend school with us?” asked another
“The paperwork and the laws stating that public school is open to the general public, and that anypony within the age-group can attend.” Shine said matter-of-factly. this was requiring focus, too much focus, she had to end this argument soon, lest her human counterpart Tod fall into another coma. “Now could you please let me through?”
“No. We’re not going to school with a RUFFIAN like you. So leave, otherwise, we’ll just have to force you.” said the mob’s leader, clearly flustered and ready to get rid of the new nuisance presented to her.
“NO! I- I mean... I’ve been looking forward to my first real day of school for years, and I won’t go through the pain of being overly different than everypony again.” At the moment of her outburst, Tod let out a sudden scream, swiftly apologizing, his mind was slipping much deeper into his pony counterpart than needed. over the years his/her mind would delve too deep into either dimension than was safe, causing the other half to speak with the first, eventually putting the non-used one into a short coma-like state that lasted for at least a month. They were starting to panic, and the focus on his Shine self was becoming too great, so their Tod self was starting a panic-attack to compensate for the intense emotion.
“Hornless! Get out of here!” the mob started to chant in an almost sing-song fashion.
“NO!” said both Tod and Shine, both proceeding to run away, Tod almost forgetting to open the door, they was so scared, so lonely and he had felt the final remnants of their consciousness starting to drain from their human body, about to become comatose.
Both their filly and boy selves ran into their respective homes, with very similar parents that simply couldn’t understand the confusion of being two people at once.
“Panic attack?” asked both sets of parents, unsurprised.
“Yes.” Replied Tod, getting odd looks from his parents before realizing he had spoken what Shine was meant to say. He quickly reiterated, saying the same word in English.
Their Shine self simply ignored the parents, and stated that they were going to move to a less racist town, somewhere country, where she could be accepted. Halfway into her venting she realized she had been speaking English, retold her strife and slammed the door to her room. Finding something very surprising. A note tied to an arrow, stating
I KNOW WHAT YOU ARE. I KNOW WHAT YOU’RE GOING THROUGH, AND NOPONY CAN HELP LIKE THEY SAY. CURSES CAN’T BE UNDERSTOOD BY SOMEPONY WHO HASN’T EXPERIENCED THEM FIRST-HOOF. I CAN TEACH YOU OF THE CURSE YOU BEAR, AND MAKE THE LOAD LIGHTER, BUT FOR NOW ONLY KNOW THAT SOMETIMES THEY ARE A BLESSING. NOW TOD, OR SWEET SHINE, WHICHEVER, GO TO PONYVILLE, I SHALL AWAIT YOU THERE.
SIMPLY- MOON
Confused and feeling a bit less alone, both personas of the same being leaped into their beds and promptly slept. But not before Shine yelled down to her parents, “How about Ponyville?”
