Celestia's Fire
The World Flame & Sky Pool

I woke up for the third time last night. Something keeps prying into my mind, making me not be able to sleep. I'm not even going to try again, might as well read. Looking around I could see a few titles. Hitchhiker's guide to magic, 101 ways to annoy Celestia, I giggled to myself. THAT would be one for later. There was one book that seemed to catch my attention though.
Equestrian Lore: The World Flame & Sky Pool
Looking around, nothing else seemed to pop out at me, so I levitated the book to myself and flipped to the first page.
In the days before Equestria, before there was anything on Equus but rock, there was one being. The Maker. He created all that was, and set forth a plan for all that will be. We call his plans prophecies.
In the final days of the maker, he had finished sculpting the world, but the Maker found there was something missing. Life. He had not the power to make life himself though, he knew his days were numbered. So he used the last of his power to create five things.
He first created the World Flame, the source for all magic and mana in the world. With magic, came life; but the Maker knew that if he did not use his remaining power to contain the magic, it would run rampant through the entirety of space itself, and if that were to happen, there would be dire consequences.
To balance the world flame, the Maker created the Sky Pool, a being that would forever contain and absorb the magic in which the world flame created. With this the Maker came to another realization, if the sky pool was not watched over, it would take all the magic, and destroy all the life the maker had worked to make.
To fix this error, the Maker created the first alicorns, though they were first known as guardians. There was the guardian of the World Flame, and there was the guardian of the Sky Pool. They would both watch over the beings that were meant to eternally battle each other. This was on the last day of the maker, and so the guardians were left to watch the development of the world.
The maker had given them two rules to forever obey before he died. The first, they must never let the the World Flame or Sky Pool grow to strong. The second, never influence the creatures of the world. It was soon after the emergence of the ponies that they realized the equines of the world could not govern themselves.
Both guardians agreed to make more of their kind, left to control the equines of the world. The Sky Pool created the moon and the World Flame made the sun, they gave them knowledge of the countless prophecies left by the Maker. Even so, after these two were created to oversee the world, the ponies seemed to be in endless battle with one another. So once again did the guardians conference and come upon a decision, they would work together to make a new guardian, the guardian of love.
The guardian of love would forever be in a cycle of life and death, destined to die and be reborn again for the rest of eternity. This did not go as the guardians planned, the preparations were not done properly, and when they tried to combine their magic, it only resulted in chaos, Discord. Though this was not what they had planned, it had, in a way, united the ponies.
"Wow..." I made a verbal recognition of my wonder. I could not help but ask myself if this was true or not, if the seemingly endless sky above them was really some sort of container. If life was made possible because of some sort of magical flame. I found myself drawn to look at my cutie mark, the flame seemed some how entrancing now. I found myself staring at it for quite a while before I remembered what I was doing. Back to my book.
After some time, the sun and moon guardians had defeated the being Discord, trapped him in a statue of stone. Not before he was able to pull one last trick, the corruption of the moon guardian, there was still some time though. Corruption does not take place immediately. The Sky Pool and World Flame guardians searched frantically through the prophecies the Maker had left for them. They found the answer after days of searching.
In a forest at the base of Foal mountains there was a tree of crystal. The fifth being left behind by the Maker, harboring magical foci to be used by those who are found worthy. They informed the suns and moon guardians of the foci in which they would need for many years to come.
No later then a week after the guardians of the moon and sun received the foci, found to be named the elements of harmony, the corruption of the moon guardian fully took hold. The moon guardian had turned on the guardian of the sun, the latter was forced to use the elements of harmony against the moon guardian, banishing her for 1000 years.
Upon learning of the cause for this, from the guardian of the World Flame, the sun guardian grew some resentment towards the maker, but being the product of the guardian of the World Flame, she had some sense of duty and knew that this was the way it was meant to be.
After some time, for reasons nopony really knows, the two guardians, World and Sky, began to resent each other, perhaps it was the natural fight between the World Flame and Sky Pool, perhaps not. The last pact between the two was the successful creation of the love guardian, about 300 years after the moon guardian's banishment. In the creation of the love guardian, the two guardians gave up their immortality, and since then have slowly been weakening. Nopony knows when they will die, but without the two, our world will surely collapse.
That is, unless they are replaced.
I finished the book with a somewhat strange feeling. There was something odd about that last line, it seemed to have a sort of difference to it. No matter, I was suddenly hit with exhaustion, as if my mind was waiting just to finish that book. My eyes seemed not to be able to stay open.
As my eyelids collapsed, my mind could just process the book disappearing in a burst of flame that seemed to radiate magic...
