Chapters Equestria: The Wasted Land
Prologue: Homeland Unbirthed
Equestria was once a peaceful land, with lush valleys, fertile soil, and long summers. The inhabitants enjoyed the fresh air, and children went to school, regardless of their financial situations. The land was ruled by two sisters, Princess Celestia, and Princess Luna. They governed their country well, and it overflowed with good harvests and excellent trade. This went on for many years, with very few emergencies. But that all changed when the bombing started.
The day had been dreary even before it began, rain slashing against the windows and cars. Pedestrians struggled to find their way home, or to their last errand. Then, off in the distance, the sirens sounded. The ships came, and they carried nuclear bombs. Nobody knew who owned them, but they obviously meant harm. They panicked and fled, but many did not make it. Those who did went into hiding, fearing another attack, or worse invasion. For months they spent their time like this, huddled in their cupboards. Then they opened the doors, and saw hell. Burning cars and houses, crumbling offices and towers, and pieces of the past, all destroyed. Then the outbreak began.
The radiation, accompanied by a specially made toxin, had filled the air around them. The best possible outcome was death, your body eaten away until only skeletal remains could be seen, or you died of radiation poisoning. The worst possible outcome, was infection. The radiation and toxin affected the blood of victims, and caused changes and mutations. After days, or even weeks, your brain would start to rot in places, resulting in almost complete intelligence loss. Then your skin would rot, producing an odor most foul. Finally, you would succumb. These are known as infected, or undead. They couldn't be easily killed, unless shot to the head, severely damaging what was left of the brain. Severing the head was also ideal. The cases of this epidemic were thousands, millions, and it struck fear in everybody's hearts. It was a fate worse than death, and all who became infected were to be quarantined before being exterminated.
One year after the beginning of the end, the Equestrian Defense Against the Undead, or EDAU, was formed. At first it was a small militia group, gathering members through offering hope. Then it became an army, eventually being run by Princess Celestia herself. It was now the most powerful armed force in Equestria, and outposts were scattered throughout the lands. But they had competitors. Gangs were formed in abandoned towns, offering money, protection and eventually the chance to govern the land. They rose to power, becoming more influential by the month. Scavengers and thieves were the majority of recruits, but eventually a family or two would join, scared for their lives.
But the damage to the land was irreparable. Homes were destroyed, lives were lost, and violence broke out like a rash. But some choose a different path altogether: the path of traveling, being free from obligations, and just surviving. Now, things were taking a turn for the worst, and the will to survive would be put to the test.
Author's Note
This is, obviously, the prologue, so prepare for the real beginning in a bit. I have wanted to write this for ages, and the first version was a rough draft, so I don't know why I posted it. But here is my take on an undead apocalypse in Equestria
Equestria: The Wasted Land
The dusty road was still, and the wind blew a stray tumbleweed across the ground. Flies fed on a dead deer, and the heat just made the stench worse. The city nearby was crumbling, decaying from years of neglect and punishment. The plains of Equestria were still, save the few infected or occasional wildlife. A few deer were grazing by a dirty pond, and they pricked their ears up. Something was coming. The undead men rose to their feet, sniffing the air. The smell of blood and flesh made them hunger, and they gazed in the direction of the aroma. Dust rose up from the road, and the rumbling noise got louder. Then it disappeared behind the dip in the road. After a few seconds, a car appeared over the dip, and a gunshot sounded. An infected dropped, his head rolling to the side, his neck severed. The other infected on the road stood still, and in result got run over. A Chevrolet Suburban flew down the road, and the passengers cheered.
"Nice one AJ!" Rainbow Dash looked at her friend with new found respect.
"Well," said Applejack. "it's nothin' much. I learned since Ah was old enough ta walk."
Twilight rolled her eyes, and Rarity stifled a giggle. The girls had been traveling for two years, since the outbreak started. Their homes and families had either been killed in the bombing, executed by gangs, or infected. Nothing was left for them there now. They had taken Applejack's car, scavenged guns from around the town, and left their pasts behind. Survival was the main objective now, and the threat of death was higher than ever. They had been driving for hours, searching for the EDAU base, and hadn't found any sign. The name had been a kind of joke, as the first title was Equestrian Infected Individuals Containment Facility, but that quickly changed with the amount of infected. Now, the EDAU was the largest military force in Equestrian history.
Twilight polished her M4 carbine, until every inch shone in the fading sunlight. Her reflection stared back at her, and she fixed her hair, regardless of her situation. Rainbow Dash was driving the car, and Spike was huddled up next to Rarity, sleeping. Fluttershy was inspecting a .45 semi-automatic, a present from her parents in case an emergency occurred. Pinkie had a pink and white colored M16, and confetti was stuck to the stock. Rainbow Dash's Vector .45 ACP was on a rack attached to the ceiling. Another infected was on the road ahead, and Applejack leaned out the window. She held her Colt Diamondback out the window and fired, dropping the infected with a shot to the head.
"Ah got 'em again!" said Applajack. "Ah think all that trainin' with Dash paid off in the long run."
"Yeah, just make sure ya don't aim that thing towards me." Rainbow glanced at the weapon, and Applejack suddenly realized she let her wrist move. She blushed, putting the gun down.
"Well," said Rarity. "I simply don't see the entertainment in killing. It's bad enough they're infected, but they were also someone's mother or father..." Rarity's eyes dropped to the floor, remembering her family, killed by the bombs. A tear fell on the floor of the car, and Rarity shut her eyes. Applejack and Twilight understood, and spoke quietly now. They needed to go over the plan again.
"So, first stop is the EDAU base, over here. We should be able to find food, shelter, and protection for a few days, maybe a few weeks. From what I gathered, their base is almost impenetrable. They should have ammunition there, and if we're sneaky enough, we can... borrow some without them noticing. Then, we head to Cloudsdale, Rainbow wants to see if her home survived. She also wants to try and find Spitfire, but it may prove difficult. There are gangs in Cloudsdale, and it's a big target for thieves and other survivors because of the city's walls. They were built so that exiled residents couldn't return, but there is an entry point... here, by the pipe. And then we should go to Ponyville, see what we can find there. And finally, I want to go to Canterlot. I have something personal to do..."
"Hey Twi, coming up on the EDAU base. Better wrap it up."
They looked out the window, and saw she was right. A massive concrete structure, lined with barbed wire, rose into the sky, and towers overlooked the surrounding area. A dozen guards or so could be seen running to their posts, weapons ready to fire. As they drove up the dirt path, they saw the emblem of Equestria above the entrance. A unicorn, a pegasus, and a horse. They symbolized the races of the lands, though in equine form. Rumors had stated this was because there was an alternate Equestria, one where pastel colored horses lived in harmony with one another. The car stopped, and a soldier came to the window.
"State your business."
Twilight sat up, looking at the guard. "Hello, I'm Twilight Sparkle, and these are my friends. We're here to seek supplies, and lodgings if you can offer them."
"How many are there in your vehicle?"
"Seven," said Twilight. "including the sleeping boy."
The guard wrote something on his clipboard, and looked to the other guards. They nodded, and he went around the vehicle, looking for any hidden weapons or illegal objects. Finding none, he returned to the window. "Alright, step out of the car slowly, and put your backs to the wall. Mandatory search. Can't have anyone sabotaging our base."
They understood, and got out. Spike had woken up from the noise, and followed their lead. Once lined up, the guards searched them, and found their handguns. "Were you aware that we could have you questioned for this? You need to take more care. But you'll slip by this once, as the princess appears to know you."
Twilight's eyes brightened. "The princess is here? Princess Celestia?"
"Yes," said the guard. "Come inside, you need to go through the decontamination chamber, then you will be escorted to her office."
Once inside, the guard led them through several long hallways, each appearing the same as the last. Concrete and steel walls surrounded them, and small windows allowed them to look outside. The floor was made of concrete as well, making their feet ache. But they soon arrived at the chamber. The guard stepped to the side, almost hurriedly, and instructed the to enter. Once they'd been scrubbed, he led them through several more hallways, past a chemical facility, and finally to a big hall. The walls were lined with pictures of Equestria before the bombs, and it filled their eyes with tears. They didn't drop, but they were there. They finally reached a set of doors at the end of the room, and pushed open the doors, revealing a lovely office. The walls here were white painted oak instead of concrete, and a waterfall sat in the corner, specially built into the wall. The seats were yellow velvet, and the floor was a soft yellow and white carpet, a picture of a sun crossed with a moon on it. It must be her , though Twilight. The door at the other side of the room was heavy, and made of steel. They swung open, revealing a room similar to the one they were just in. They stepped into the room, unsure of what awaited, and looked about. A picture of Celestia, gun over her head and sun at her back, stood on the wall. She looked older than they remembered, and the guard saluted.
"Visitors, Your Highness. It seems to be Princess Twilight."
The chair at the back swung around, and Twilight gasped. Sitting, in white and yellow armor, was Princess Celestia. She looked at the visitors, and her eyes lit up like stars. She stood up, rubbing her eyes in disbelief, and said. "It's really you then, Twilight?"
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
The two women embraced, and tears ran down their cheeks. The others stepped back to give them space, and Celestia looked in Twilight's eyes. "I thought you would be alive. One of my students could survive hell and high water. Speaking of hell, you need to tell me of your journey, and we can do this over food. Guard, please tell the kitchen staff to prepare a meal, then you and the rest of the soldiers can eat as well."
The guard bowed. "Yes, Your Highness."
They walked to the mess hall in silence, not wanting to speak until seats were available, as their stories were sure to be long. The cafeteria was the normal gray concrete, and the floors squeaked under their shoes. The food was hot, and smelled of the past, making their eyes water more. They talked of the events leading up to now, and shockingly Celestia began to shed tears.
"You girls must have been exhausted, and you too, Spike."
The boy hardly talked these days, but found a few words to speak. "Yeah, it's been rough. I feel so tired these days, like sleep just wants to hold me forever." He put his head on his hands again, closing his eyes. Celestia looked at him, slightly worried.
"Do you know if he's infected?" said Celestia. "Has he been bitten, scratched, or otherwise put in contact with an infected individual?"
Twilight shook her head. "No, we travel most of the time. And now, princess, could we please stay here for a while? Rest would help quite a bit."
Celestia nodded, and led them to a set of chambers, each furnished with bunks and drawers. Small windows let the last rays of sunlight in the rooms, and the six women thanked the princess. Spike was already sleeping heavily, and Celestia closed the doors.
As she walked away, she thought of the past, when she and Twilight would sit together, studying. She missed those times, and felt she'd give anything in the world to have those days back again. She remembered how Twilight helped her defeat their past enemies, and longed for one day where she could just sit with her student and a glass of tea, reading a good book. All in faded days. She found herself at the front gates, and looked at the last light of day sink below the horizon. Thinking of Luna was a bad idea. Her sister was alive, she knew that, but where exactly was she? Only time could tell. She saw, in the sky, one lonely star. It reminded of herself during her time as sole ruler of Equestria. One thought crossed her mind. If this epidemic wasn't stopped, if there really was no cure, or end to it all, what would happen to the country? Would it just simply cease to exist? One could only wonder, and right now, wondering seemed to be the only thin g she did these days. It would be a welcome respite if it would all just end, they found a cure, and civilization could rebuild itself.
But that seemed far off, even impossible, as she looked around at the desolate landscape. How could one possibly hope to construct such a ruined land? It would take years, even decades or centuries, to be close to what it was. And all she could do for now was wait, and try to figure everything out. She took one last look at the horizon, thinking of the future, and headed to her chambers. The light faded after that, and then the lights came on. The night had started, and the infected would roam. No one was safe tonight, and she slept in a troubled, yet deep, sleep.

First chapter for this story, expect many more. This shall be my biggest project yet, and many trials lay in store for our selection of surviving sausages. I hope to one day have this little pile of cradoobadadack into a series, if all goes well.
And expect some random moments also.
Equestria: The Wasted Land
The morning came, and the sun's glare came through the small windows. Twilight rubbed her eyes, looking instinctively for her rifle, and found it right by her bed. Seeing her friends asleep, she quietly exited the room, heading off to the bigger window in the hall. Looking outside, she saw the soldiers doing their drills, and suddenly she realized she forgot to ask about Shining Armor. Her brother was in the Royal Guard, so if he was alive he should surely be here. She heard a bell, and suddenly her spine tingled. Something was off this morning. A tiny black dot appeared in the sky, and slowly it grew. As it got closer, it gained some shape, and Twilight's eyes widened. She rushed to Celestia's office, hoping she would be there, and thankfully she was, pouring over documents. Twilight flung the door open, gasping.
"Princess! There's a helicopter coming here!"
Celestia looked up, and upon hearing her student's words, rushed off to the outer wall. The soldiers stood at alert, waiting for orders. Celestia got out a pair of binoculars, adjusting them to the appropriate setting. The insignia wasn't there, and all her craft were required to bear insignia. She snapped her binoculars closed, and sighed. "Attention! If that helicopter gets any closer, you are authorized to shoot it down! I will contact the pilot directly, and we'll try to find out their intent. In the meantime, try to... they're coming closer, neutralize their craft!"
Ten soldiers released bolts of electricity on the helicopter, ending it spiraling down to the ground. Upon impact, a minor explosion went off, resulting in a fire in the cockpit. Celestia sent four soldiers to inspect the wreckage, and turned to Twilight. "Twilight, I know you have traveled a great distance, but you must go. If that craft was an enemy, you, along with your friends and every individual here, is in danger. The residential area is on the opposite side of the base, go alert the residents. Get them to the shelter, by the cellar. Then get your friends and whatever else you need and get out of here."
Twilight wanted to stay with Celestia, but knew her teacher was right. She hurried back through the winding hallways, and reached the quarters where she had slept. She found her friends still asleep, and shouted, "Wake up! We're in danger here, we need to alert the residential area!"
Applejack rubbed her eyes, and looked at Twilight. "What's goin' on, sugarcube?"
"There was a helicopter that arrived here, it didn't have an insignia. It may be an enemy, so Celestia told me to alert the residential area, then get ourselves out of-"
At that moment, a loud boom sounded, and the entire base shook. Twilight looked out the window, and the sight horrified her. The helicopter was still intact, but dozes of infected were running forth into the base. The helicopter must have belonged to a gang, and they must have been carrying infected to drop into some town. It was crucial they get out. Sprinting at top speed, she alerted the rest of the people there. They were sleepy at first, but soon, mothers gathered their children, men led their wives and family, and they were off to the shelter. Twilight ran back to her friends, and found them all awake and running. They got outside, and instantly the smell of rotting, burning flesh hit their noses. Soldiers were beating off infected, and they saw their car where they'd parked it. A zombie was heading for them, and Applejack shot him square in the forehead, making him fall. They climbed in the car, unsure of where they were going, and sped down the road. They were disappointed with not getting as much rest and nourishment as they desired, but glad not to be infected, or dead.
"So," said Rainbow. "who sent the helicopter? And what do you think will happen to Celestia?"
Twilight shrugged. "There was no symbol on the chopper, and Celestia told me to get all the residents in the shelter. She should be fine. We need to get to Cloudsdale, I think. It's just two hours from here, so we can try to figure out what's going on at the same time. Whether it's a gang or not, we can't be certain yet, obviously. Once we get to Cloudsdale, try and find some food, weapons, or even clothing. We could all do with a wash, but that's a bit low on the list of priorities."
She looked out the window at the passing countryside, thinking of her parents. Where were they now? Were they dead? Infected? She wished she had answers, but they weren't hers to hold just yet. It just wasn't in the cards. She grasped her carbine in her hands, feeling the familiar ridges. Then she heard a sound. She looked through the windows, trying to find the source. It sounded like a car. Then, she saw it, out the back window. A truck with a mounted gun was coming closer, and it opened fire.
"Duck," said Twilight. "now!"
The bullets started flying, and Twilight used the car mirror to try and aim at them. She successfully shot the man in the passenger seat, but the driver started pulling up beside them. She ducked behind a seat. being it was made of metal, and aimlessly fires. She heard a gasp of pain, and a pop. She looked over, but saw the gunner still alive, fumbling to try and stay upright, for the car was tipping. Then he flipped, losing his head on the asphalt. But their Suburban shook, and they realized their front tire was gone. Their was a ledge up ahead, and Pinkie tried to turn, but they went over the side.
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::;::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::;::::::::::
The world was still, save the odd creature trying to survive in its lands. At the bottom of a drop, by a dusty road, lay a car. Its wheels were still spinning, and did so for a minute. When they stopped, all was still, even the creatures. Silence passed, and the door of the car was kicked open. Twilight stepped out, surveying her surroundings. They seemed to have landed in a ditch, but it wasn't anything they couldn't fix with the rope. The others were climbing out, and she went to help with the car.
"Twilight," said Applejack, grinning. "Ah think we fell down."
Twilight looked at her. "No, we just flew over the damn ocean on wings made of fucking asphalt!"
Applejack chuckled, and calmed her down. "I was just makin' an observation, no need to get fussy. Now help me with this rope, and stop bein' grouchy. I'm tryin' to lighten the mood."
Twilight rolled her eyes, knowing she should have realized this, and grabbed an end of the rope. They pulled, pushed, and shoved, and finally got the car right side up again. All the cargo was still intact, and thankfully they had a spare tire in the back. After putting it on, Twilight tried to find the map, but couldn't. Then she realized it was in her pocket, and she groaned. Nothing was going well today. She unfurled it, and noticed a shape, miles away. Looking at the map, she saw it was Cloudsdale. Her emotions of annoyance were gone, and she started running.
"Come on, it's that way! We're so close. Rainbow, you drive. I'll look for more danger, if any."
They drove in the direction of the spot, and the heat made it all the more uncomfortable. It looked as if there was water on the road, but when they got closer, they saw it was just the heat. Frustrated, they passed the canteen around, trying desperately to quench the thirst. Upon approaching the town, they heard a noise, and turned to the left to see a house crumble down to mere dust. The families that once lived here must be gone, so they got out of the car, trying to think of a plan.
"Okay," said Twilight. "look for anything we can use to survive, including gas. You can siphon it from any car that's intact, so go. Meet back here after you're done, and be alert for any noise or movement."
Cloudsdale was a wreck. The once great offices and skyscrapers had crumbled to their foundations, and homes were starting to meet the same fate. Walls were cracked or gone, the roofs, if left, were slowly falling. The sidewalk was broken and weed-ridden. Twilight scanned the wreckage, hoping for any sign of supplies or life. But all there seemed to be was her breathing and footsteps. She climbed among the debris, looking for even the smallest amount of food or water, and her hopes died. In a crater made by the rubble, dozens of burned bodies littered the bottom, and the stench was unimaginable. She fell to her knees, trying to suppress the tears, and wondered how someone could do something like this. Men, women, and children, dead and burned on the ground. She slowly walked amongst the bodies, searching for anything alive or moving. She stopped at a small body, a boy of at least eleven years, clutching the arm of another. His skin had been burned almost completely off, and only skeletal remains and bits of flesh still stayed. She got up, shuddering, and turned her back on the scene. It was too much for her. She wandered out of the crater, desperately trying to make sense of it all, and stumbled across a house, this one still mainly in one piece.
Stepping inside, Twilight saw Rainbow Dash across from her. She seemed to be looking intently for something. She motioned for Rainbow to come closer, and she complied. She stepped up to Twilight, and looked at the address. Her eyes widened, and she took off through the house. She searched all the rooms, frantically searching, but found nothing. Spitfire may be gone already, but she still hadn't checked upstairs. She ran up the steps, breaking one of them, and searched in the hopes she was still alive. She reached the door to what could only be the master bedroom, and found it was locked. She kicked it down, using her athletic leg strength to her advantage, and the sight disheartened her greatly. The window was broken, shards scattered on the floor, curtains ripped and burned. The closet was open, and clothes were littered to and fro. Stepping forward, she noticed blood on the floor, and the sheets of the bed were messy. She puled the sheets slowly, dreading the thought of what she could find, and pulled them off. The sheets were bloody, and a corner was misplaced. But it was what was under them that made Rainbow's eyes close. Still, bloody and lifeless, lay the murdered body of Spitfire.
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::;::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::;::::::::::
They knew something was wrong when they heard the wail of sadness. It sounded like Rainbow Dash, so they rushed off to the direction of the noise, unsure if Rainbow was in danger. They burst into the house, and heard the crying coming from upstairs. Running up, they almost fell through the burned and broken steps. They saw the bedroom door open, and once inside, they found Rainbow Dash by the bed, sobbing, with something in her arms. The dead body of Spitfire, captain of the Wonderbolts, lay in Rainbow's arms. Fluttershy approached her, putting a hand on her shoulder. Rainbow leaned onto Fluttershy, crying without a certain end. They let her shed her tears, and finally Rainbow stood up, with no tears left to shed. She picked up her gun, wrapped Spitfire in the sheets, and tok out a match. Saying goodbye under her breath, she lit the fabric, and they left the building. On the way to the car, they were surprised when Rainbow spoke.
"I'm going to find whoever did this. And I'm gonna kill 'em all."
Author's Note
Yes, it's a cliffhanger, deal with it. I don't mean to be rude, but I have to deal with them too. So find out what happens next time, in The Wasted Lands.
(By the way, for those of you who asked, yes, The Wasted Land is from the Call Of Cthulhu role-playing game. I <3 H.P Lovecraft's stories.)
Equestria: The Wasted Land
The Calm Before
The entire drive was spent in silence. The only noise that could be heard was the humming of the wheels. Everyone knew Rainbow Dash admired Spitfire, as Spitfire did her. Not a word could be spoken, as it would feel out of place. Applejack tried to think of things to do, but not a single idea came, not even a fragment. Then Rainbow spoke again.
"Why. Why did this have to happen? Why couldn't they just let go of a grudge?"
The others were all confused now. "Rainbow," said Twilight. "do you know who's behind the outbreak? Who's the enemy? Please, you have to tell us!"
Rainbow looked out the window. "It's the Griffons. Gilda sent me a message yesterday, saying that she hoped these years had broken me. Such a bitch. Do you know what it's like? I finally made it to the Wonderbolts, I had something going for myself, and it's all gone in a flash. Being in that rubble, in Cloudsdale, was like standing and screaming among my broken dreams. My dead memories will forever stay there, until my end. Do you know what that's like?"
Twilight shook her head. "I wanted to be Celestia's student, and I was. I wanted to learn and study, and I did. I don't truly know what it's like, but you have so much else to live for. Your friends, AJ, and maybe one day they'll be able to rebuild Cloudsdale."
Rainbow just sighed, and stared at the floor. The chances of rebuilding her home town were slim, and the chances of them living to see it were almost as slim. The car's vibrating floor was making them rather tired, but they stayed awake in case the need for fighting arose. Too many times in three days had danger found them, and they would not perish in their sleep. Twilight once again polished her gun, even though she knew she already had. It was the only thing she had of her old library in Ponyville, and her key to survival. She heard a shift, and heard Spike mumble in his sleep. He really did sleep too much, and she wondered if Celestia's advice would prove needed. Many times he had mumbled about something he called Pnakotus, but she put it down to nightmares. She looked again out the window, and saw the sun sinking behind the hills. They would need to stop soon, or risk thieves and gangs.
"There," said Twilight. "in that small grove of trees. We'll be fine there, unless people actually stop to look."
Pulling up in the trees, they noticed a strange smell of smoke nearby. They had their guns at the ready, and Applejack sniffed the air. Her senses were heightened from her years on her farm, and her sense of smell was perhaps her strongest. Sneaking through the foliage, they came upon a clearing, and saw three jeeps all parked side by side. Around a campfire, eight men sat drinking and laughing. The insignia on the jeep would suggest a gang, so they readied to shoot. The men at the fire were starting to yell, and it seemed a fight was breaking out. This would be the best opportunity, and Twilight fired. One of the men fell back, alerting the others of their guests presence.
"Shoot their tires," said Twilight. "It'll make it harder for them to escape!"
Two of the men had taken cover behind a car, and now tried to shoot from the gap underneath. Applejack finished them both with quick reflexes, and Twilight managed to kill one that was trying to start one of the cars. The other four had taken position behind a rock, and Rainbow Dash tried to creep up towards them. But they saw her, and a shot from their gun clipped her shoulder, sending her to her knees before rushing them. In their haste, they had grabbed an antique musket, probably stolen from a museum or someone's personal belongings. As they jammed the powder in, Rainbow was able to rush them, shooting one in the throat, and smashing the other one's face. When all were confirmed dead, Fluttershy checked Rainbow's shoulder, and found that the bullet had traveled straight through, so not much in the way of care was needed. After dressing it, they checked the bodies for useful items, hoping for some ammunition or a clue to their base. They found a strip of paper in the pocket of one, and found it had directions to an airfield south of their current location. They knew it would be dangerous, but it was their best option. A breeze had arrived, and the smell of rain made them even thirstier.
Walking around the camp, they found five gas cans, all of them full, which would serve their purposes nicely. The cars had been searched as well, and they found ammunition, food, and clothing to last a while. The light was now completely gone from the sky, and a chill was settling in the air. Exhaustion, accompanied by their earlier travails, was getting the best of them, and they settled in for a welcome, deep sleep.
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::;::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::;::::::::::
The sound of birds and rain woke them, and they became glad of the jeeps they'd rested in. The rain had come in the night, and it pattered on the glass in a rhythm. As they rubbed the sleep from their eyes, they found that their joints hurt, likely from their sleeping positions. Stretching proved difficult, and Twilight hoped the car wasn't stuck in the thick mud. Once they had eaten a light breakfast of old oatmeal, they got on the road again, and tried to follow the map. But it had been hastily scrawled, and was difficult to read. Finally Twilight threw it to the floor, frustrated.
"How are we supposed to read this? The writing is like a child's!"
Fluttershy raised her head a little, hearing the word child. "Umm, I might be able to read it, um, Scootaloo used to always draw at my house before..."
Twilight nodded her head, and handed the map to Fluttershy. "If these people really are the Griffons, we need to be extremely cautious with the approach, more than normally. But the way this is drawn it shows three entrances. One at the front, back, and another to the right side. I think that this base they took was modified by them, so we should expect traps and turrets that rival the EDAU base. We should only be three hours away now."
It was just after noon, and they thought it best to wait until dark to infiltrate the base. Dark would provide cover and play tricks on the guards' minds, so it would be the best plan. Trees, grass and shrubbery passed the windows in blurs of green, brown and the occasional white. The car's humming and the consistent bumping in the road was starting to make them sleepy, and they tried to think of ways to stay awake. Their destination was a dangerous one, and they couldn't afford to fall asleep. They agreed, however, that a rest was needed before they moved in, as it was certain death if they were discovered. Applejack turned on the radio, listening for news of her family, but none came. She shifted in the driver's seat, and checked the clock. Two o'clock now. A song by Blue Poctober came on, and it reminded her of her life before all this mess, making tears cloud her vision. She turned the song down, wiping her eyes and nearly crashing into a tree.
When she saw it, she had to blink first. And she knew it wasn't a mirage. A massive airfield stood in the distance, and wire and guns surrounded the perimeter. Cars lined up in front of the main entrance, and she saw hundreds, even thousands, of men running to their duties. As she pulled up to a group of trees and bushes, the others awoke. Seeing where they were, they sat straight up and grabbed their weapons.
"Relax y'all," said Applejack. "We're safe here. We have a few hours 'fore dark, so just have a bite and let's discuss the plan again."
As they ate their granola, Twilight went over the entire plan so they were ready. "We're going to go in after dark. We'll go through, try and find supplies and civilians if they've captured any, and destroy the base, if we have to. No doubt the commotion will cause alert, so be ready to fight. Then get over to Ponyville or Canterlot. Clear?"
"Yes."
Twilight smiled. "Good, then all we have to do is keep occupied until nightfall."
They passed the time with conversation, and talking of their pasts, even though they knew them already. It was still good to remember. Applejack seemed to have it worse, and took her time.
"Ah just can't believe, even after all this time, that they might be dead. Apple Bloom's body wasn't ever found, and I don't think she's dead. But Granny... I miss Granny. Never seein' her face or hearin' her voice just leaves a hole in me. Big Mac would'a known what to do now. Anyway, I suppose we can't keep lookin' at the past, the future's what matters. I mean, you can't change your past, however much I wish I could. But ya can alter your future. It's almost time, let's go."
The sun had indeed set fully, and all natural light was now gone, leaving the glare of the lights in the base to illuminate their way. They snuck to the side entrance they had discussed, and saw a rather depressing sight. At least ten thousand people were gathered here, trying to join the Griffons. Their gang was becoming too powerful, and they would have to act swiftly and silently if they were to succeed. Gunshots fired, and they looked to a far wall on the opposite side. A family of seven had just been executed, their blood on the wall, bodies in a heap. This sparked a feeling of rage in Twilight and the others, and the desire to destroy this base became a priority. Turning to the others, Twilight mouthed the words that would spark a series of events that would be dangerous, saddening, and otherwise life-changing to everyone there.
"Move in. We've got them now."
Author's Note
The Blue October song is The Feel Again, , one of my favs from them. The album Foiled is still their best, though.
Sorry it was short, but CLIFFHANGERS.
Anyway, we're starting to get into the more active chapters here, oho! Stay tuned for that. Thank cheese for giving me time. BTW, I finished writing thirty five songs! Two albums will be ready to perform when the band goes up, so that'll be good. But enough of that, stay tuned for more exciting action slash derpiness in the next chapter, of The Wasted Lands.
Equestria: The Wasted Land
There are several things to be said about stealth missions. On one hand, you can do it all quietly, subdue when you feel threatened, and get out unscathed. Or you could kill everybody you meet in an attempt at glory. The first option is always the more practical. Anyway, now is not the time for an obligatory narration, on with the story.
Twilight led the group from the entrance into a dark alleyway. The sounds of footsteps and shouting reached their ears, and for a moment they thought they'd been spotted. But those thoughts faded when they saw the mercenaries run past their little hole in the wall, and they continued towards the first building. They searched for a quiet way in, and found that there was a ventilation shaft by the outer wall, which was an ideal entrance. Crawling through, Twilight guarded their location until the others were in, and they were in. The tight, cramped vent gave every one of them a sense of claustrophobia, and Fluttershy in particular seemed affected. As they crawled towards the next room, they heard voices. Somebody was probably standing watch. Rainbow Dash readied her sidearm, a Glock 19 suppressed she'd picked from one of their earlier fights, and peeked through the vent. A guard was sitting at the desk, speaking through a headset.
"There's nothing on the cameras in that section, but Barry saw some girls enter from that side."
"Well," the headpiece he wore crackled. "I wouldn't trust Barry much, he's far too jumpy. I'll get my father to send search parties. Send a squad over to the watch towers, and keep me updated."
"Yes ma'am."
Pressing his headset off, Rainbow shot him in the head, dropping him quickly. After crawling out of the vent, Twilight went to the computer, trying to find a route they could use. "Okay," she said. "there's a patrol there, and the main building is right across from the armory. Sounds like they want trouble. If we go through the vents in buildings, we'll be able to... hey, here's an overhead view of the base, come and look."
From the camera, the entire base was revealed to them. It couldn't have been any less than two hundred miles on each side, with barbed wire protecting the tops of the walls. The runway had a jet resting on it, but it looked as if it could run no more. The sheer size of the base made them lose hope, for they saw no possible way to avoid a fight. There were thousands. They decided standing around wasn't an option, hid the body in a small box containing C4, and climbed in the vent again. They crawled to the next building, and they were thankful it was right beside them.
"You know," said Rainbow Dash. "When you said we'd be sneaking, I still expected that we'd be, oh I dunno, more careful? You know, wait for him to deactivate the headset or something?"
Twilight turned to look at her. "Rainbow Dash, there are some moments you simply cannot wait for in life. That was one of them, as this deals with our survival."
"Yeah, but the fucker had his headset on, they could have heard the thud, or tried to talk to him and gotten suspicious."
Shaking her head, Twilight continued through the vent, making Rainbow sigh, thinking of what she would do to Twilight if they got caught. In the next building, they found only a chest of parachutes, a small lamp, and a AK-74 with a red dot sight, which would prove useful in a minor jam. They finally made it to their main target, the cafeteria, and set C4 charges around the walls. Once they were all set, they crawled out again, heading for the armory. When they were at a safe distance, they detonated the charges, and the building was nothing more than smoke, flame, and rubble in seconds. They heard an alarm, and the smell of smoke filled their nostrils, stinging the back of their throats. The sirens were blaring, and soldiers were starting to assemble. As they watched, a girl of about twenty-five pulled up on a bike, and started pacing among the soldiers. Her features were muscular, she had feathers woven into her hair, and her voice chilled them.
"Soldiers! What happened? There were squads of you patrolling the base, and none of you could spot a simple intruder!?"
A soldier she had looked at gulped, and sweat appeared on his face and neck. "No ma'am, General Gilda, there weren't any signs, ma'am. Barry said he saw six girls enter the base by the-"
Gilda turned sharply to face him. "What did you say, punk? You're a soldier, and you will not speak to me without being addressed! Am I clear!?"
"Y-yes ma'am."
"Good," Gilda sneered. "now what was the alarm for?"
Rainbow Dash's face was filled with pure hate, but Twilight and Applejack held her back. "Dash, I know you hate her, and so do we, but er one thing, killing in anger will only result in pain, and two is we have to stay here, until it's the right time."
Rainbow Dash relaxed a bit, but kept her expression fixed on Gilda. The girl had caused so much trouble, and nearly ruined several of her friendships. She was a rude, intolerable girl with a desire for misery. That bitch is not going to escape this time, thought Dash. I won't let her. For now, she would wait, but when the time came, Gilda's head would be hers. As they watched Gilda moved down the line, questioning the soldiers. Rain had started.
"And you say you saw six girls?"
Yes ma'am."
"Did you see what they looked like?"
"Yes ma'am, one of them had hair dyed in rainbow fashion."
Gilda froze, and grabbed the guard by the throat. "What did you just say?"
The guard was clutching at his throat, kicking the air. "One of th-them had a r-rainbow dyed h-hair, m-ma'am."
Gilda dropped him, and he gasped for breath. Gilda marched to her bike, and turned towards the main building. "If anybody sees a girl with rainbow dyed hair, bring her to me. I'll deal with her myself. As for the others, and they're surely with her, take them to the torture room, or even the barracks. You all haven't had any for months, have you?" Laughing, she sped towards the building, a cloud of dust in her wake. They let go of Rainbow Dash, but she got up, fury in her eyes.
"Run! I'll deal with these fuckers!"
She fired her pistol, hitting three in one with a shot to the head, and the others there were alerted. They turned, yelling inaudible words, and the shooting began. Twilight and Applejack got behind a metal crate, and Pinkie and Fluttershy got behind barrels. Twilight aimed her carbine and sprayed, downing six of the men at once. Pinkie hadn't needed to shoot until now, and bounced out of her hiding place.
"Say hello to my friend, guys!"
She fired, her M16 downing three men at once, while the rest ducked for cover. The laws of logic seemed to take an exception for her, and not a single bullet touched her. She successfully killed thirteen men, and turned to her friends. "Hey guys! Come on out, the meanies are dead now."
Coming out, they looked at the carnage. Bodies lay everywhere, and they saw a few tracks leading to the main building. Rainbow scowled, and faced the others. She had a cut over her eye, and blood ran down near her eye, and the lightning cast shadows over her face that contorted it into an evil glare combined with a smile. And her voice sent chills through their spines, for it sounded nothing like the calm, laid-back and collected Rainbow Dash they knew.
"That filthy bitch is gonna get it now."
As they watched her walk away, they thought of their previous encounters with Gilda. She was fierce, and very egotistical, even more than Dash. But the anger in Dash's eyes was the most rage they had ever seen in anybody before, besides Sombra. They all remembered that day, when Rainbow had seen Gilda for the egotistical loud-mouth that she was. But Gilda's grudge seemed to have lasted for this long, and now she seemed to be going a bit far with her revenge plans. They worried for Rainbow Dash, and hoped that Gilda was weaker than she seemed. If not, it would be a short fight.
"Rainbow," said Twilight. "you can't fight Gilda yet. We need to kill all her soldiers first, then deal with her. If not, the entire base will run to our location if she's either found dead or she calls for help. You know I'm right, so just wait and kill the rest, alright?"
Rainbow nodded, though reluctantly. They knew that there was strength in numbers, and a thousand well armed men was asking for trouble. By several minutes, they had found a sizable hole in a wall, and crawled through, revealing a big chamber full of all sorts of things. Guns littered the far corner, armor and clothing lay in heaps on the floor, and several small firearms were carelessly thrown in a locker. A water puddle on the floor suggested this might have been a locker room, but the size of it was more than normal sized for such things. The metal walls were rusted and breaking, and the concrete floor was cracked and slippery, making it hard to keep one's footing. As they crossed the floor, they heard a loud bang, and a shadow appeared in the doorway in front of them. Twilight aimed her gun, attaching a new silencer she found, and shot the guard coming through. They hid the body in a locker, and proceeded through the hall towards what looked like an office of sorts. They stopped, and listened inside for any noises, and heard three voices.
"What do you say to you commanding officer?"
"We found no trace, ma'am."
"Good, now what about your friend here?"
"We found nothing ma'am. No bodies, no trace whatsoever, ma'am."
It was Gilda, and she was talking to two of the soldiers that were at the lineup. Rainbow Dash couldn't hold in her anger anymore, and burst in the room, gun pointed at Gilda. Twilight shot the two other soldiers, after being aimed at, and stepped inside. "Gilda, Gilda, Gilda. You'd think after all this time you would take care of your troops better. Now, are you going to come quietly for interrogation, or are we going to have to fight this one out?"
Gilda smiled, and stood up slowly. "Why, Twilight Sparkbutt, we meet again, along with Rainbow Crash. Come to beg for mercy from you dear princess? Sorry, but I don't take requests from walking meals."
Twilight smiled. "That's too bad, I thought you cannibals would be delighted to finally be defeated and banished, where the food can eat you."
Gilda snarled, and circled them. "Seeing as you've all come so far from your idiotic princess, I suggest we fight honorably."
"Honorable fighting? You don't know the meaning." Dash was starting to raise her gun."
"Don't I, Dash? We'll see, if you have the balls. A spar, in the airfield, now. Unless you're afraid?
Rainbow Dash grinned. "Afraid of you? Never. Lead the way."
Author's Note
Yep, Gilda's gonna get it. But I feel bad, she's misunderstood mainly, and her want for attention was probably brought on by either being ignored by peers, or to make herself seem useful, needed or wanted, causing all the events from that episode. She seems as if she just wants someone who cares, but I made her evilish in this for the sake of using her character in a semi=canon way.
Anyway, onto the stupid voiceover: Can our heroes help Dash defy Gilda's greedy grasp and get away? Can they even hope to see the end of this perilous plot of Equestrian evolution gone wrong? Find out next time, on The Wasted Lands.
Equestria: The Wasted Land
A Debt Long Forfeit, Now Paid
The rain fell hard, and lightning lit up the dark sky. On the runway, two figures were surrounded by dozens of others, and they stood facing one another. Gilda and Rainbow Dash had a long history, and they both knew each other well. This fight would prove to be a hard one, and the rain only served to cloud the vision of all present. Every bystander, either soldier or survivor, stood anxiously awaiting the fight. Gilda and Rainbow Dash would fence for the right to live, and the fate of both groups rested solely on who stabbed last. With this in mind, Rainbow Dash grinned, and chuckled softly.
"Oh Gilda, Gilda the giffart. Yep, that's you. Now, how about that beer you owed me?"
"That bet was long forfeit. You didn't think after your betrayal I'd actually give you anything, did you?"
"Well, given the circumstance you're in, I'd say it's either that, or I destroy your little gang here."
Gilda laughed, and the sound sent shivers down the spines of everyone present. "You really think you can destroy this? Are you really that foolish? Look around! I have at least a thousand men at my disposal, and even more standing by for orders. But, if you give up, we'll make sure your deaths are quicker. Or, you could join us, and one day my father will become the king of Equestria."
Rainbow hocked, and spat in Gilda's face. "Over my dead, lifeless body, bitch."
"Then we can arrange that, and maybe your slut mother will welcome you into the afterlife. Send me postcards from Tartarus."
And the fight had begun. Gilda swung her sword, and Rainbow Dash ducked and whacked the flat of her blade against Gilda's knees. She swung around to gather force, and bashed Gilda in the shoulder. Staggering backwards, Gilda came up for a return swing at Dash, but got swung around and bashed on the back of her head. Her vision blurred for a moment, and Dash cut at her legs, forcing a cry from her adversary. Dash then quickly used her arm strength and forced Gilda to the ground, and pointed the sword at her eye.
"Tartarus, eh? Don't think it's my cup of tea, but you can tell me all about it in a postcard."
Just as she as about to stab, Gilda kicked her legs out from under her, and picked up her sword. After Dash recovered, she made a slice through the air, and missed Dash's face by an inch. Dash quickly regained focus, and gripped tighter, and kicked Gilda's stomach, sending her flying back. She watched as Gilda got up again, spitting blood from her mouth.
"You really are a piece of work, Dash. But my swords are old, from my father's collection. Try and actually hit something, will ya?"
Rainbow Dash saw Gilda close her eyes to laugh, and took her chance. She rushed forward, and jabbed, marking Gilda with a fresh scar. This enraged her, and Dash had to duck from a swipe towards her neck. Gilda was angry, which was good. Rainbow Dash had been trained to not fight with emotion, and only reflexes and skill. She wanted to let loose, but knew it would be her downfall. So she simply spun around with her leg out, tripping Gilda, but she got dragged down as well. They fought for control again, and Dash got up, smacking Gilda's face with the hilt of her sword. This dazed the girl, and Dash saw her opportunity to make distance to catch her breath. She got five feet from Gilda, and the two stared each other down.
"So, you've gotten better since we last sparred, Dash. Is our old teacher still well?"
"Yep, and now we'll end this, yeah? I think I chipped a nail."
Gilda snarled, and rushed for dash, sword aimed to stab, but Dash sidestepped, and bashed Gilda's head again. Gilda held her head, and focused her vision, but a sharp pain in her stomach made her look down, and a warm trickle of liquid ran down her front. Dash's sword had gone straight through her middle, and she fell backwards. Gilda's body sparked something in her troops, and they scrambled to escape, but Dash took Twilight's M4 and fired, mowing them all down. They dropped like flies, and her friends looked on in complete shock. After she was done, Dash handed the gun back to Twilight, and looked to the sky.
"It didn't have to be like this. If she'd just learned to fucking let it go... she was a bitch anyway, it doesn't matter."
She took a lighter from her pocket, and lit a cigarette. Even after Twilight's warnings, she found smoking helped her. After a few drags, she looked at the base, and its size still amazed her. She stared at the surrounding walls and closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and pressed her C4 detonator. The walls exploded in places, and they watched as they crumbled to the groung, and all that was left were remains of buildings and an airfield.
"Dash... how did you..."
"When we were setting up charges, I set extras around the walls, and Gilda had her self-destruct charges ready, in case they needed to escape. Let's go."
They saw the car, and headed to it, thankful for it finally being over. Now all they had to do was take the drive to Ponyville, and then decide what to do next. Twilight saw Dash's eyes turn back to their normal magenta, and her face was calmer now. Climbing in the car, Twilight saw a flash of guilt cross Rainbow's face, and sat down next to her. Applejack took the wheel, and they set off down the road.
"Rainbow, it's not your fault. She was dangerous to all of us, and you protected all of us..."
"Did I?" she asked. "I didn't protect or help Gilda. She wasn't always like this. There was a time where we did anything and everything together, then... then she kind of lost it, and her ego took over. You saw what she did to Pinkie, and I wish we could rewind, especially before this all happened, but we can't. It just isn't possible. For the first time in my life, I've had to kill an old friend, and in the end, she was just another enemy. It's so... I don't really know. How much longer to Ponyville?"
"It should only be a few hours, Sug." said Applejack. "And you can bet yer trophies we'll take as long as we need there."
As Twilight looked out the window, she saw a light up ahead, in the distance. It looked like a signal, and it blinked in long and short intervals. "Hey, look over there. It looks like Morse code, someone get my book." Fluttershy handed her book to her, and Twilight looked at the light. "Dot dot dot dot, dot, dot dash dot dot, dot dash dash dot... help! Go towards that light! It's a distress signal!"
Applejack sped up, and the light continued its message. No matter what, it only repeated "help," and the closer they got, the more frequent it repeated. Applejack had to squint, as the light was so bright, and she finally pulled up to the source. They were in the middle of nowhere, the road still and silent. A wind blew, carrying the smells of rain, remnants of the past storm. A boy was standing in the open, flashing his light, and he saw them pull up. He ran to them, and Twilight had to calm him down.
"Hey, what's wrong? Are you lost, are you safe?"
"Please," ha said. "there are men chasing me, and they're coming from there!" He pointed at something off in the distance. They saw nothing, so they thought it best to get his name.
"I'm Vocal. Vocal Chord, and you've just fell for it."
Just as they wondered what he meant, they heard a muffled grunt, and bags were thrown over their heads. hey struggled and kicked, but their adversaries were too strong. They heard hushed talking, and they heard the boy say, "They were foolish enough to answer the signal. They're all women, save that one. Can I have him? I can't remember the last time I had another boy to play with."
"Sure, but clean up after your 'playing,' it gets the floor slippery."
They heard the doors of a car open, and they were forced inside, heads bashed against the roof. After everything that had happened that day, they certainly weren't getting any breaks, and it looked as if the worst was yet to come. They heard Spike say something, so they must have woken him up, and shoved him in too. They heard laughing and clicking, and then the car moved forward, and they hoped that what these men planned wasn't too painful. But they doubted it would be, and after taking a while to think, they finally realized their plan, and panic overtook them. Bile rose in their throats at the thought, and they wondered when their suffering would end. But the worst was still to come.
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::;::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::;::::::::::
They felt hands grabbing them, and the hard stone of the floor met them. Their bags were taken off, and they got a good look at both their attackers and their surroundings. The walls were cracked badly, most of it was turning to rust, and what looked like blood was smeared on the walls. Chains, ropes, blades and rods were scattered around, and a chair was in the middle of the room. Their attackers were eight in all, and their faces had looks of need, hate and cruelty. One of the men stepped forward, and crouched in front of Twilight, his rotten breath in her face.
"I'm going to enjoy this, girly. Here's some advice, don't scream. We hate the noise, and we might be inclined to kill you slower if we hear it. Got that?"
Twilight looked him in the eyes, and headbutt him in the jaw, making him fall backwards. He snarled at Twilight, wiping his mouth. "Boys, I think we got us a feisty one, here. What do you say we teach 'em exactly what we do to those who resist?"
One of his friends smiled, and walked over to one of the blades. He picked it up, sliding his finger across the blade, and the young colt Vocal smiled at the sight of his favorite knife. The other man saw his stare, and held the knife close to his body. "My knife, scrub. Push off, or I'll rip ya from the inside of your ass, boy." The boy didn't look very deterred, but backed away. The other smiled, and finally approached Fluttershy, holding the knife close to her face. "I'm going to enjoy this."
He slid the blade slowly across her arm, and Fluttershy winced, making the man smile even wider. He slid until he reached her elbow, and nicked her, sending a small wave of pain through her. Standing up he turned to his peers. He handed the knife to the other one, who had been intimidating them earlier, and licked his lips. "They're all yours, boss."
"Good, now, let's see what you have to offer."
He turned to the others, smiling, and walked to the door. He looked at Twilight, and smiled. "Take a good, long look, 'cause this is gonna be the last time you see daylight again." He pressed a button beside the door, and it slowly started to shut, sealing them all inside in the bloody, damp room. The sunlight slowly disappeared, until there was not a trace of it anywhere. The girls were disheartened, wondering how much they could go through in their entire life, but they also knew it was just beginning, and the last light turned to nothing.

Equestria: The Wasted Land
The sounds of muffled grunts and whimpering went on, and had been going on for a long while. Twilight, Rarity, Applejack, Pinkie and Rainbow Dash sat in the corner, faces turned away from the center of the room. The men had tied up Fluttershy, and used her to sate their needs. Vocal still sat in a corner, having his way with Spike, and eyeing Rarity hungrily. Twilight was shocked at how he could even do such things, but knew he could kill her if he wanted, so she stayed silent. The ropes around their hands and feet were chafing horribly, and she shifted to try and find a comfortable position, but either way she felt the burning of the ropes.
"Oh yeah, take it, bitch. And if you fucking scream, I'll cut your ears off."
"Please... m-make it s-stop... it hurts... ow!"
"Shut up, or I'll use your intestines as a belt!"
Twilight looked over to the side, not enough to see, and saw the other men looking on with objects in their hands. Realizing what they were doing, she quickly looked away again, and heard Pinkie squeak. The metallic smell of blood made her head hurt, and the hard floor on her rear. She couldn't block her ears from the cries of pain, as her hands were tied, but she focused on a plan.
Okay, they plan to use us for their physical needs. Now, do they plan to kill us afterwards? Or will they keep us? Either way, I need a plan. They're men, so they have weaknesses for physically intimate moments, money, and food. Maybe... I wonder. She raised her head, thinking back to her cooking lessons.
"Hello, I was wondering if..."
The one who had first talked to her came up and bashed the side of her head with a gun. "Quiet, bitch! We have plans for you, and afterwards, I've been promised blood."
Okay, so at least we know he'll kill us later. Twilight looked around for anything she could use, but found nothing. She heard a rustle, and muffled screams, and Fluttershy was thrown, naked and bound, on the floor. The man responsible walked up to Pinkie Pie, and glared down at her. "Come 'ere, we'll make you feel real good."
Pinkie's struggling was short, and they soon had her on the floor. Vocal watched as he used Spike, and Twilight found her plan. She inched, ever so slightly, towards the knives, while the men were preoccupied with their activity. But something was off. One of the men was looking at her, yet he wasn't doing anything to stop her. She took this as a sign, and finally reached the knives, selecting a cleaver. She went back to her spot, and only just finished settling back down before the men came back, dumping Pinkie on the floor. They approached Applejack, and the girl knew what was coming.
"Git yer filthy mugs off me, you! You can't fucking break me..."
They took her, and Twilight saw her chance, and cut her ropes ever so slightly. Vocal noticed this, and waited, watching for more. Sure enough, he knew she was trying to escape, and alerted the others.
"Oi, this bitch's trying to esca-"
Just then, Twilight cut through her bonds, and grabbed two knives from the rack, throwing them at two of the men. They dropped dead, and three of the others rushed to grab her, but she sliced their necks in one swift movement. The remaining three held back, waiting for an opportunity, but one of the men threw his knife in the eye of another, and he fell to the floor. His partner tried to help him, but Twilight kicked his head into the concrete, blood soaking into the floor. Pushing him off, Twilight untied Rainbow, and gave her a pistol from a shelf. They looked around for Vocal, and saw him trying to escape. But Dash was faster, and tackled him to the ground. He fought and struggled, but she finally pinned him under her, gun pointed at his head.
"Hey boy. Ever wonder what it's like to bang me?"
"Get off me, filthy !"
"Uh uh uh, that's no way to talk to me. Say hey to your buddies, fucker." She fired the gun, and face became not much more than a mass of red. She kicked his body for good measure, and looked for the last man in the building, the one who had thrown the knife. He was in the corner, crouching in wait, and Rainbow pushed him against the wall, hand around his throat.
"Who the fuck are you, huh? You gonna try and beg for life?"
"Miss Dash, I hope you're not implying I was ever truly on their side. Quite the contrary, I wished to help you, but my facade was necessary." He pushed himself away from her, and dusted his shirt. "I do hope you can forgive me for not helping, but as I said, my little disguise was necessary, if I was to ever be of use to anyone."
He walked to the bodies, and Dash glared at him. He was searching the bodies, and Dash was growing suspicious. "What's your name, huh? You don't seem trustworthy, but I can feel something..."
"The name's Dusk, Miss Dash. As I said, you can trust me. I only helped them so they wouldn't harm me, or you. If I attacked, they would surely have killed us. See why now?"
She started to reply, but he cut her off. "Don't say that I could have helped. I couldn't have done anything that wouldn't have gotten any of us killed. My plan was to wait until the right moment, but it seems Princess Twilight took care of them before I could do anything. Of course I know who you all are, you saved Equestria several times, so don't look surprised. And close your mouth, you look like a frog. Now, seeing as you all have most likely had a busy day, I suggest you sleep here, and I'll prepare some food, and if you even think of going away tonight, remember the creatures. Now, off with you, give me some room, and bandage yourselves."
He started some food, and Twilight tried to examine Pinkie and Fluttershy. Their attackers didn't have time to get to Applejack, but they had ripped her shirt to shreds, so Spike, who had woken up with a hurting ass, gave her his hoodie. They had explained to him that he had been raped in his sleep, and he shuddered at the thought. Dusk was walking over to them with a pan of food, and held out a spoon. "Eat," he said. He set the pan down on the floor, and retrieved utensils from a shelf. After handing them out, he sat down on the cold floor, the smell of cooked meat starting to overpower even the blood and bodily fluids.
"So," said Dusk. "where are you headed? It's a long way in any direction, and I feel as if I owe you a debt. If you had been killed, or left without slamming me into a wall," he looked at Dash. "then we would have perished either way. They had more guns in the back, and... what was that?"
There was a knock at the door, and Dusk moved to open it. He turned the handle cautiously, readying his pistol, and swung the door open. The cool, open air greeted him, and he looked at the figure standing before him, brown coat flapping in the breeze as if he were a dark shadow.
"Screw Driver?"
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::;::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::;::::::::::
The two stared at each other, barely moving, eyes locked. Then, Dusk took Screw in an embrace, and they looked more joyful then, as if nothing had happened.
"Dusk? I've been searchin' for you for months! How did you get here?"
"Had a little run-in with a gang, thought it would suit my purposes to play along. And it did, look who's here."
Screw Driver stepped inside, looking around, and saw Rainbow Dash. "What... did you bring them, or..."
"No, the gang did. Twilight, being the brave soul she is, started a fight, and killed most of them. Sit, food is almost ready."
They sat and talked of plans, and Fluttershy looked at Dusk. She felt a strange sensation, but she didn't know what it was. She shrugged it off for now, deciding it best to think on it with a rested mind. As they ate, the wind from outside, for the door had been left open, brought a smell of smoke from the distance, and Dusk sniffed the air.
"Fire, from the east. Could be a campfire, but it smells stronger. We better guard tonight, so me and Screw will take watches, now get some sleep. Don't argue, just do it.
"Thank you," said Twilight. "for all of the help. I still have some trust issues, you could say, but thank you."
"Not a problem," the boys said in unison.
Puzzled, yet too tired to care, the girls and Spike settled down for sleep, and Dusk and Screw wondered what they should do. It was obvious they had a goal, but what was it? Too many times they had helped groups of stragglers and been tricked, so they discussed it quietly.
"So," said Screw. "do you think we can trust them? What if Celestia's been killed? What then?"
"Then," said Dusk. "we'll have to turn to Twilight as our ruler. Don't you remember? She's the newest princess, but Luna and Cadance have been missing for a while."
"Then we need to be extra careful, and keep an eye on all of them."
They looked at the sleeping women, and wondered just how much they had gone through. Either way, it was getting late, so they took one last look out of the window, turned out the light, and retired to coffee and biscuits. The wind howled outside, and they heard an owl nearby, accompanied by crickets. So many times they had traveled and fought, but nothing compared to being on guard duty to the Elements of Harmony themselves. Such things wouldn't even have been imagined without slapping yourself mentally, yet they found themselves doing that very thing tonight. It was surreal, and Dusk had to talk with Screw.
"So, do you think they want to go to Canterlot? It's a complete wreck, and the roads are dangerously ruined. We should advise them against it, but they should be allowed if they so choose."
"I agree, but for now, let them sleep. By the looks of them, sleep hasn't been on their list for a while, and they need it."
Dusk looked at Fluttershy, and wondered how she had gotten past the death of her creature friends. It couldn't have been easy, and the hard floor made him shift. Such a terrible floor, he thought. He looked once more out of the small window, and saw the moon casting its glow over the world. And he thought, for once, they could have some peace. The journey to Canterlot would be a dangerous one indeed, as bandits and murderers would be there to loot. But that was for another day, and sleep beckoned to him, the wind singing a lullaby. Right before drifting off, he looked at Fluttershy again, and his eyes closed.
Author's Note
Yep, I got killed by Dash. Well, that's a damn shame. Not really, I was a right knob. And the character Dusk is the OC of JPfluttershy1979, and Screw Driver is Derec, so expect more of them as they are now in this for as long as I deem their characters fit to live!
Anyway on to my stupid thingymajoo: Have our heroes procured some peace and quiet? Are our two new boys as friendly as they seem? Find out next time, in The Wasted Lands
Equestria: The Wasted Land
Dusk sat outside, smoking. As the smoke rose up from his lips, Screw came out and sat beside him. The two had been through hell, and they weren't about to go through it again, not after this. "So," said Dusk. "how do you feel about their ideas of going to Ponyville and Canterlot?"
"I told you, it's a dangerous journey, and one with many twists and turns. You know the Griffons went there, don't you?"
"Of course I do, it's unwise not to keep in touch with such details." He took another drag of his cigarette. "I trust you located their base?"
"No, actually. It was destroyed, and I don't have to wonder if it was them who did it. Gilda, the daughter, is dead. That's another reason I think they did it. Everybody knew how long Dash and Gilda knew each other, and they had a grudge for a while. Perfect time to end it, don't you think?"
Dusk sighed. "I don't pretend to know how to keep a grudge, it just clouds your judgment. However, I do believe, if she did indeed kill Gilda, that she made the right choice. Gilda was too dangerous to be left alive, her father gave her almost full control over his army. What's more, I heard through a wire tap I made that she planned on hunting down the Elements and Celestia, getting rid of multiple problems at once. But it didn't seem to go well for her, so we should count or successes and take a short break." He took another drag, gazing off into the distance, where Canterlot looked as a speck against the sky.
"So I have to wonder, what exactly have you been up to?" Screw looked at Dusk, trying to read his emotions.
"As you know, again, I have had to travel with those filthy gang members for at least three months, and I had to be careful not to alert them." He took out his gun, a Taurus judge revolver. "I had trouble keeping Octavia secret from them."
"Wait, Octavia? The cellist?"
"She used to be a cellist. She was murdered, and now this revolver is all I have left. Come on, it's about time to wake them."
They went inside to find them all waking, and told them of their suspicions and the plan they had made. They agreed, though Rainbow Dash was reluctant to follow anyone's plan. They gathered their things, almost forgetting their guns, and went to the cars. They were surprised to see a Charger and a Thunderbike by their car, but soon the surprise was turned to curiosity. They'd never seen such a bike, and the polish was such that it gleamed like silver. But they heard a groan behind them, and turned around to see an infected male, about thirty three-years, shuffling towards them. Twilight and Dusk got in front, and readied their weapons as clubs. But the next sound made them shiver. About fifteen more groans sounded behind the building, and they turned to look. A fence at the back of the facility had been rusted beyond help, and the lock had broken from the force of the infected. It was a cell for their prizes, and they had broken free.
"Get to the cars, my gun's jammed!"
Twilight smacked her gun, but nothing happened. The others ran to the cars, and drove off to the road. Dusk shot two at once, and grabbed a wooden plank, tossing it at Twilight. She whacked two men in the head, resulting in a decapitated duo of rotting flesh. Another made a grab for her arm, but she smashed the board against his face, sending him to the ground. The rest of the infected stood still, seemingly waiting for an opportunity, but Twilight and Dusk grabbed a board each, and using them as riot shields, forced all the infected to the ground, and finished them off with kicks to their skulls. The adrenaline coursed through them, and they had to take a moment to catch their breaths.
"Fuck. Why do we always get the trouble. Can there be a day when we don't run into a pack of meatbags?"
Dusk straightened up. "Well, I should think you'd be used to by now, Miss Sparkle. After all, it's been a few years now. Come, we should retreat before the scent of blood and flesh attract more."
They went to the cars, which had parked just a few yards away, and climbed in. Screw's Charger was dark gray, and modified with kneecappers. The roof had a weapon rack with a AK-74 strapped to it, and all the windows had adjustable shutters on them. Dusk's bike had been given a similar treatment, with smaller kneecappers, a weapon rack on both sides, and a small gun mounted on the front between the handles. It was a shiny black, and a light yellow stripe ran around the sides, giving it a hornet-like appearance. He got on, starting the engine, and Screw revved his Charger. After they got in their respective vehicles, they sped off down the road, heading for Ponyville.

The drive was excruciatingly long, and they all felt the exhaustion getting to them. Not having a proper pause from all of their situations gave them terrible exhaustion, and sleep was beckoning with its warm fingers, so they fought hard to stay awake. Twilight thought back to the gang members they had killed. Their disgusting, sweaty bodies abusing her friends, their horrible breath inches from her face. She shuddered, and looked at Fluttershy, who was driving the car. She had quite possibly taken it the hardest, especially with their taunts and disgusting comments towards the sensitive mare. Pinkie was sitting in a corner, eyes shut seemingly in sleep.
"Twilight'" said Rainbow Dash. "Do you think this will ever end?"
Rarity looked up from her arms. "Darling, it most likely will never end. It's about as likely as me sprouting wings or a tail."
"Maybe, but I just want a break from all this bullshit."
Rarity had an expression of anger. "And you believe I don't? I would much rather have my boutique back, sipping some lovely tea, or reading a good book, then sitting here wondering when the next time I have to kill something will be.!"
She looked at the floor. "I... I'm sorry. This is one of the reasons I've stayed silent, I have these feelings of helplessness and anger, and I just want to scream."
She looked at Twilight, and the normally calm and organized girl ran her fingers through her hair. This scared Twilight. Something must be going on, and she should try to help.
"What's wrong, Rarity? It's not anything from yesterday, is it?"
Rarity looked at Spike, who was playing a hand-held gaming system. She leaned forward and cupped her hands. "I think Spike is still reflecting on yesterdays... sexual events. It's a good thing he forgets the last few hours after sleeping, or I don't have any idea what would have happened. He shouldn't have gone through that, nobody should."
Just then, they heard a gun fired, and turned to the windshield. They saw a man wave at them to go forward, and he shot again. They realized it was a horde of infected, and that there were buildings around. They were nearing Ponyville. The man waved them forward again, and shot ten of the infected down. He had an M21 sniper, and he took out a machete, slashing back the throng of writhing bodies. Twilight didn't want to sit idly by, and leaned out the window, firing her M4 at the mass of infected, downing an entire group in five seconds. The man looked at her, eyes pleading for her to go, but she couldn't leave him.
"Fluttershy, keep the car here! I'm helping that man!"
Fluttershy nodded, and Twilight ran from the car, firing her rifle at two infected who were rushing for her. The man fired his sniper towards her, but he had aimed over her, downing three fectos at once. He mouthed at Twilight to go, but she didn't listen, and pulled him towards the car. She shoved him in, climbed in herself, and only narrowly missed an infected woman grabbing at her leg. Once they were safely in, the car sped off, splattering several infected on the sides and windows.
"Nearly got ourselves killed, there. Hey, what were you doing in the middle of the road, out in the open? What's your name?"
The man looked at her. "My name's Golden Heart, miss. And my girlfriend is Caramel Twist. She's a medic, and she's in town with one of our friends. He fell ill from a minor bite from a zombie, but he should be alright. I just hope they're safe."
Twilight was puzzled. "Zombies?"
"Yeah, that's what we call them. Faster than saying infected, at least. Just a slang term, nothing more. So, what brings you here?"
"We came to see if there's anything salvageable, and whether our homes still stand. If so, then we'll get our belongings, if they indeed still lay where they were, and travel on to Canterlot. Then... we don't know after that. Possibly go back to Princess Celestia, maybe go out to the Crystal Empire, maybe to Saddle Arabia, who knows? Anywhere's better than here in this mass of bodies."
"How do you know the other countries don't have the same problems?"
"Haven't you paid attention? It was a bombing that did this, there was a chemical in addition with the bombs that does this. Now, the lands have been laid to waste all over. Haven't you been outside Ponyville?"
"No, I didn't think it was safe. I had to protect my girlfriend, you understand."
Twilight looked out the window, thinking about it. It made sense to stay in a safe, familiar area, but it was rather small, yet well populated, making it dangerous. Then, she saw it. It was worse than when they left. Buildings were burning, collapsing, and otherwise lying in disrepair, and the roads looked as if they had been hit by a great giant. The skeletal remains of cars sat still on the road, and weeds were growing out of control. Bodies lay here and there, and the smell was atrocious. Now and then a stray creature would stray from its hiding place, searching for food, and feast on the corpses. Vines and shrubs were overgrown so much that it was difficult to see the road, and the sky was darkening, though from rain or night they could not tell. They saw Sweet Apple Acres in the distance, and it seemed all right, but they were at a distance. One couldn't be sure if it truly was untouched, or if their eyes were playing tricks.
They exited their vehicles, and stared at the surrounding area with determination. Their homes needed searching, friends and family may need rescuing, and belongings that could be salvaged would be. But something was awry in the atmosphere, and Twilight had to catch her breath. A great danger was coming, and it wasn't far off.
Author's Note
Having just entered their old hometown of Ponyville, our heroes will bravely try to conquer all dangers there. But there's not only remnants of people, but remnants of the past. And the past can be a hurtful thing.
Equestria: The Wasted Land
The horrid smell of ash and corpses filled the air as they made their way through the town. They climbed among the rubble of destroyed houses, rummaged through every orifice they could see, and stood among the shattered glass. Seeing their old home in such a state left them heartbroken, but they had to continue for their sanity's sake. The ruined environment was somehow singing a tune to them, and Twilight felt her spirit drop even more. Not one building was left intact, and pasts were ruined and burned. Her head filled with rage, and she picked up an overturned chair, throwing it at a wall. Tears welled in her eyes, and the dusty smell of rubble made her close her eyes, trying to hold back tears.
"They'll get it for this. Those fucking Griffon bastards! We did nothing to them, and they completely destroyed our home."
Applejack tried to calm her down, but Twilight shoved her off and kept moving. She grabbed a rusted, worn pipe and jammed it in the ground. She leaned down, gently picking up an old teddy bear, and placed it on the pie, as if sitting down. She then took one of Dusk's cigarettes, and lit it up, exhaling a cloud of gray smoke. Rainbow dash stared at the girl almost as if deciding what to do with her, but then just threw up her hands, giving up. Twilight gazed towards her old home's location before the abomination known as Tirek had destroyed it. He was now locked away in Tartarus, but she still felt bitterly enraged. Such destruction, such loss, and he had caused it. Now, it was a different party who had committed such a crime, and Twilight was on the verge of utter hate. They walked over to the outskirts, towards Sweet Apple Acres, and walked down the dusty, barren road. Applejack was ahead of them all, keeping her head down, and the others understood. Whatever awaited them up that dusty road wouldn't be pleasant, and sorrow would surface. Through the trees and grass they walked, until finally they stood before the old farmhouse.
The paint was dull and peeling, and the windows were cracked, adding a feeling of unease for Applejack. Dusk and Screw looked around the house for traps, but found nothing, so they positioned near the door.
"I have a really odd feeling, like the air is... sorrowful, or even colorless."
"Screw, one doesn't simply feel such things. Though you're right, it does feel... it doesn't feel natural, or even alive."
They opened the door, and one by one they all entered the house. Their were broken pictures, splintered tables and beaten walls. The house smelled of rot and blood, and other unpleasant odors one mustn't speak of. Applejack walked ahead of them, ignoring their warnings of traps. They reached the parlor, and saw ripped and overturned furniture. The floor had been ripped up, and the walls had been torn at, most likely looking for a hidden box or baubles. They stepped carefully in the dead house, and entered the kitchen, and the sight sent great feelings of anger and sadness through them all. On the floor lay Big Mac and Granny Smith, bloody and still. Granny had been stripped of her clothing, and her legs spread. Out of respect, Dusk and Twilight covered her with a cloth, and Screw looked away.
Applejack knelt down by the bodies, taking the cold, lifeless hands. Tears made themselves known in her eyes, and she shook with sobs. "Why? Why didn't they run? Who could have raped my granny? She was a helpless, crippled woman, who didn't have any means to fight back! What kind of sick fuck would do this?" She looked away, and bile rose in her throat, threatening to spew outward. She rose from her knees, wiping tears from her eyes, and went over to a picture on the wall. It depicted her entire family, all in one place, smiling as if nothing would ever happen. She smashed the glass, taking out the picture, and stuffed it in her bra.
"Applejack," said Twilight. "are you sure you're alright? We can stay in town for a few days if you need to. Or we can just go away for a bit."
The farmer looked at her with tired eyes. "I wouldn't mind taking a while here, though... memories are a difficult thing for me right now. We... we should check the other houses and stuff now, and I need to sit down for a bit. I'll meet up with y'all in a bit."
With that, the others left Applejack alone, and went to search their own homes. Twilight walked the broken road to her castle, and remembered when they had saved Equestria from Tirek, Discord and countless other threats. She finally came to the large doors of the castle, and pushed. The familiar surroundings and faint sell of paper made her forget, for a second, that anything had changed. But that thought was quickly suppressed, as it was a dangerous thing. To forget where one was was to put yourself in danger, and she had things she needed to do. She walked the cold halls until she found her library, and started looking for her books. A survival guide for all situations, a cookbook, and a book on anatomy. She knew them all by heart, but in intense situations she was prone to forget, at a rather inopportune time.
She retreated to her room, and looked around for her personal belongings. Her journal, clothes, and a picture of her parents all found their way into her bag, and she looked around again. Her bed was just as she'd left it, and so were the rest of the rooms. The kitchen held nothing of use save for a few apples, and she took one last look around, and closed the door.
She walked around the town, and found Pinkie Pie in her old room in Sugarcube Corner. She was clutching a broken frame, and inside was her parents and siblings, with Pinkie in the middle. A single tear escaped Pinkie's eyes, and Twilight leaned on to her friend, comforting her with all her ability to do so.
Miles away, Fluttershy was dealing with her own sorrows. She had walked up the steps to her house, and found the interior in complete disrepair. Furniture was ripped and overturned, the walls were torn apart, and the floor was a mess. Feathers were scattered along the entire surface, and spots of what looked like blood stained it in places. She looked around the house, searching desperately for any signs of hr creature friends. Her kitchen had been completely raided, as no food was found, and she headed up the stairs to her room. The bed had been ripped with a knife, and the window had been smashed, most likely with a blunt object. But her pictures had remained untouched, and she got a key from behind one, putting it into a hole in the floor. Raising her hand, the floor came up with it, and she opened her box. A locket, inside which were pictures of her friends, mainly Rainbow Dash, and Angel. She grabbed the other pictures off the wall, and left her house, not even bothering to check the chicken coops.
Meanwhile, Rarity was in her boutique, trying to find something that wasn't broken or stolen, but had no such luck. Everything she could see was damaged, and her most prized jewels and cloths were gone. But it didn't stop her from grabbing one, lonely picture frame, and stuffing it in her bra. Nobody would dare take it if it was there. But then she heard a quiet mewing sound coming from one side of the room, and went to investigate. The sound was coming from under a piece of heavy cloth, with several broken bits of wood on it, and she raised it. Her cat Opal was under it, lying down. Elated to have at least one thing intact, she picked up Opal and kissed the feline, unaware of the glare she received.
After she was done, she went to the cars, and saw her friends there. So many tragedies felt, yet still they continued, as if they had no end. A wind blew through the town, bringing the scent of smoke. They all looked at each other, thinking of their plans, and finally Dusk and Twilight spoke together, startling the others.
"So what now?"
They looked at each other, surprised, then looked at their feet in tandem. Applejack didn't seem to notice, let alone care about any of the current situation, but that was expected. The weight of what had happened to her was a great burden, and she would maybe never truly be happy again. Rarity was holding Opal in her arms, and letting Fluttershy stroke her, reminding Twilight of all the crazy things they had done together. Looking around at the wreckage, though, made her also remember that fateful day, years ago, when the bombs came. She could never forget that, and it stayed in her mind to the point of appearing in her nightmares.
"Okay, what now? Stay at AJ's, or stay at Rarity's? Both are big enough, but one has to be more protected than the other?"
"We should possibly stay at my boutique. I think... I think Applejack's troubles have indeed troubled her enough for one day."
They all nodded, and entered their vehicles once again, driving towards Rarity's shop. Once parked, they unloaded their most needed supplies and bedding, and went inside. Upon seeing the damage they closed their eyes, but they had jobs to do, and set up their defenses and kitchen. It was getting dark, and they knew the horrors that awaited in the night. Radiation was a nasty thing, and they had been fortunate not to run across any of the foul creatures that came from the gas. Ponyville especially had been said to be infested with such creatures, and they fancied not the day when they met one. Dusk and Fluttershy were talking in a corner, and Spike was speaking to Twilight about their home.
"Twilight? When do you think we can just finally give up and stop driving all the time? Surely if we haven't found a safe place yet we never will? If the base for a military force run by the princess herself can be infiltrated, then anywhere can. Hell, Tartarus has had its fair share of slips, and I just want to keep my feet on solid ground for more than five minutes."
Twilight sighed. "I know, but we have to keep looking. Somewhere there's bound to be a safe place, or even some help. Come on, food smells about done."
The soup was indeed done, and they all ate in silence. Crickets permeated the air with their song, and wind shook the leaves on the trees, seemingly as if in a dance. The soup reminded them of the past, and indeed it made Applejack tear up a bit. After they were done, they decided rest was needed, and settled down into their sleeping bags. Dusk and Screw nodded, and took positions at the window, taking turns on watch. It was going to be a long night. The sounds of crickets, wind and the rhythmic breathing of their companions settled their minds, and they both thought of a fantasy of theirs. A fantasy of leaving the troubles of gangs and infected people behind, of going into a distant place and simply lying down, with no worries of impending death. But they were simply that; fantasies.
Equestria: The Wasted Land
It was midnight, and almost all was silent. The wind blew through the town, creating a melody that could send shivers down the spines of anybody who was about. In the dark interior of a fashion boutique, two individuals were trying to stay awake, telling each other tales.
"So what's been happening," asked Screw. "I don't remember anything after I lost touch with you."
"I've traveled, before I met those gang members." Dusk shifted in his spot. "I started my journey after Octavia got killed. She was so lovely, I met her at one of her performances at the palace theatre. Boy could she play. We moved to Canterlot, with the money from my folk's will, and we married a year later. She still played, and one day we went to the local theatre. It was a good show, but the hour after that left a scar in my soul, and it will never leave me. While we were heading home, a group of muggers came and tried to rob us, but Tavi wouldn't do it, and they stabbed her, nearly emptying her insides on the street. That's where I got my scar. I killed one of them before they escaped, and the Thunderbike she gave me before that has been with me ever since. She never did approve of my smoking. I bought my revolver, and hunted down every one of those bastards, one bullet for each of them."
Screw nodded, and stared out of the window. "Well, my mom abandoned me when I was two, and my dad struggled to pay his debts before... this, and then my travels. I try to be nice, but you know my temper Some story eh? Wait... what's that?"
He pointed out of the window, and Dusk spotted a dark figure moving in the shadows. He aimed his gun, anticipating an attack, but then the movement stopped. The entire world was still, and not one single thing moved. Waiting, watching, and listening, Dusk spotted a movement on the ground, and fired. The bullet didn't seem to do anything, but the thing hurried away, and Dusk searched around for it. The rustling noises stopped, and he sighed. Just then, the sound of running reached is ears, and he turned around, shining his light on the source. When he saw it, he loosened up. It was Golden Heart, and he raised his hands in alarm.
"Hey, it's me, it's me! They're all right, but there's some zombies all over the school. They had gone there to find more room, but now there's at least two dozen zombies, and they don't have any form of defense! I tried shooting some, but my sniper jammed. Please, follow me, they're completely surrounded!"
Dusk and Screw nodded, and followed him to the school. The night was slightly foggy, and the trees stood still in the dead, damp air. The chilly temperature was rapidly making Dusk and Screw shiver, but they finally arrived near their destination. The school stood, but it was in ruins. Half of the building was completely gone, and infected roamed around the exterior. The bell was cracked and rusted, and the side of the house that was destroyed showed a door into the next room, most likely sealing off Golden Heart's girlfriend. Screw saw several infected heading for the door, and fired his gun, hitting it straight in the back of the head.
"That's no way to get ahead in life, am I right? Right? Okay fine."
Dusk rolled his eyes, and they walked to the door, weapons ready. Golden was holding his M21 like a club, ready to bludgeon anything in his way. They trolled through the dark, dusty hallway, and the cracked walls gave them senses of severe claustrophobia. They reached a door at the end of the hallway, and it swung on rusty hinges, revealing a well lit room. It was the main classroom, and in the middle there sat a woman, carefully bathing wounds on a still man. She looked up, and smiled when she saw Golden's face.
"I'm glad you're safe. He's still breathing, but just barely. His skin is pallid and... oddly enough, it's starting to smell more than usual. I just hope he's not turning. If he turns, then we have no means of ever bringing him back, and he's our best hope of finding a cure to this infection."
Dusk looked around as Golden and Caramel talked. There was a faded photograph on the floor, and he picked it up. It depicted a woman, in her thirties at least, and in usual teacher's clothing. She had a big smile, and her eyes seemed to mirror that. A bit of writing on the bottom said Miss Cheerilee, and he felt as if he knew the name. He set the picture down, and turned to Screw, Golden and Caramel.
"How long has he been this way?"
"At least... four days, why?"
"Then he's not far from turning. He may have but seconds, so get away as fast as you can, there's nothing you can do from here. Look at his skin, he's almost done. I'll make sure... what the fuck!?"
The man had sat up, and now grabbed at Caramel's wrists, causing her to roll backwards to get away. Dusk and Screw looked for their weapons, but they had left them by the door, a rather foolish move. The now infected man gazed at them hungrily, eyes dull and lifeless, mouth agape in a silent scream. Dusk tried to throw in a quick strike to the forehead, but it threw him off balance when he hit air, as the man had moved quickly. He was now on all fours, crawling as if he were an insect. He slowly moved towards Screw, but he managed to kick the daemonic creature's head, sending it crawling away, but he went after Dusk, who had to jump on its back to try and stop it. He bashed its head with a rock, and a loud cry escaped the thing's mouth. Screw brushed his clothes off, and made a high whistling sound.
"I don't know about you Dusk, but at least admit that that there, was a real bitch. A zombitch, one might say."
"Your apparent lack of respect for the dead is... disturbing, but clever pun. Now, where the hell have they gone?"
They looked outside, and saw them standing in the yard, looking at the ground. Dusk and Screw headed outside to the colder wind, and the fog was steadily getting thicker. Golden and Caramel were huddled close together, trying to find warmth, but the heartless wind kept blowing. Screw decided they should get back to their homes, and offered a hand. "You two need to get back to your homes, you couldn't have done anything, and it wasn't your faults."
"But we still have to find medicine..."
Screw and Dusk handed their flasks to them. "Take these, and just get out of the town, unless you're dead set on staying."
The two nodded, and ran off to their home. Screw looked at the ruins of the school, thinking of his childhood. It seemed a lifetime ago, but teen years. He looked at Screw, nodded his head, and they returned to the boutique. Upon their return, the smell of food reached them, and they saw the others were awake.
"Where have you been!" Rarity fumed. "We woke up and saw you were gone, and we assumed the worst! I have a mind to smack you for not even leaving a note, a sign, anything!"
Dusk and Screw were able to calm her down with their explanation. Twilight and Rarity looked at each other, and they rolled their eyes, giving up with the conversation. Screw managed a small smile, and ate his food in silence. He noticed Spike watching him, and he motioned for the boy to come near, expecting a verbal attack or something similar.
"Hello, my name is Dusk, this is Screw Driver. Do you wish to say something?"
Spike coughed, and straightened his hoodie. "I just noticed you've been with us since that weird cabin place, and I was wondering if you were on good terms with us, or if you plan something. And I was also wondering... why did you help us? You could have easily done what the others did, but you chose not to."
Dusk was surprised by this question, but looked at the boy. "I hope I'm on good enough terms, otherwise I could understand their glances at me. And I helped you because I saw a group who could end this infernal age of living death, destruction, and misery. Most of all, I can't stand seeing a woman abused and not do anything about it."
Spike nodded, and went to eat his food and talk with the others. Dusk smiled again, and looked at Screw. It had been years since they'd seen a child's face, at least a friendly one, and it brought them a sliver of hope. If they survived, youths would be the future of Equestria, and it was important that Spike be alive to see that day.
Dusk rose, setting his bowl on the table. "If you will all excuse me, I need a smoke."
He ignored the patronizing sounds from Rarity, opened the door, and inhaled. Fresh air was a calming thing after fights, talks, eating and the like, so he lit up a smoke and looked towards Canterlot. If he was right, Chrysalis would be there, waiting for any survivors, and he would be expecting her. At the very least, he should expect traps of a most devilish kind.
Screw popped his head out of the door, and stood beside his friend. "Dusk? Have you ever wondered where we'd be if this hadn't happened? I know it's a stupid question, but... I can't help but ask it."
Dusk closed his eyes, breathing in the air, the smell of dust, flowers and death carried on its back. "I don't know. We probably would've stayed the same, except no infected or killing would be involved. I wish it could go back too, Screw, but it's just not happening. I wonder if Octavia could've offered any words of comfort right now."
Screw looked at the ground in thought. "She might just have done that. What now? We need to go to Canterlot without dying, and then we need to get back to Princess Celestia."
"We also need to inform her of the Griffon's defeat, if it hasn't happened already."
Screw nodded, and they looked towards the tall, broken city of Canterlot. It was a long way away, and there could still be dangers around, but for now, the two just smoked, enjoying the thought of possible victory. Once their cigarettes had died, they retreated inside, and Scew looked back over his shoulder. And he saw, startlingly, a shape of a bird in the sun's glare. And that bird, to him, symbolized freedom. Freedom from infections, misery, or war, and it gave him hope.

Sorry for taking so long, family and holiday business, you see. I'll work extra hard on the next few chapters to make up for it.

Equestria: The Wasted Land
Inside the boutique, they had been talking in hushed tones and glances, but stopped when the two boys returned. Twilight turned around to face them, and cleared her throat. "So, what next? We've been abused, hungry, exhausted, nearly killed and now I just want to lie down and die. So, answer me."
"Canterlot. It's either that or we try and find more ammunition and food. But there will be traps in the city, if my suspicions are correct, and we should stay alert at all times. Gather the bags and things, we need to leave within the hour."
"Why is that, mister Planner?"
Dusk sighed. "Miss Twilight, your stubbornness and need for organization will just have to comply for now, we're running out of time. The longer we stay still, the longer more people die or become enslaved. I know you haven't fought for that, whether you may be for standard shoot protocol or not. Now let's go."
He led them to the vehicles, and Fluttershy insisted on riding with Dusk, to which they accepted. Screw got in his car, and they drove off towards Canterlot. The wind had picked up, and the cold air came through the spaces of the car as Applejack drove down the road. Twilight and Rainbow were busy discussing Fluttershy's recent behavior towards Dusk, and Pinkie and Rarity were playing cards.
"Ooh, I got goldfish!"
"No dear, it's go fish."
"No, I mean I found goldfish crackers in my bra!" Pinkie then munched happily away, oblivious to the stares from Rarity or Applejack.
"I do quite frankly think I've been beaten at this little game, but mark my words, I shall return later." Rarity put her cards away for a bit as Pinkie munched, and Twilight thought back to earlier days of sitting in Ponyville, just visiting with friends and not caring. But it was all in faded days, and she noticed they were just outside Canterlot. They pulled into the city, and the destruction was unbelievable; not a single building was untouched by time or the explosions, and the streets were completely unsafe for car travel. The destroyed capitol sat dead and abandoned, debris and dead carcasses scattered everywhere in the ruins as they stepped out of the cars. Dusk and Screw looked around for anything to use, and Twilight and the other girls went to search the houses. The smell was unbearable, the rotted and burned flesh of the dead sitting still for years. They finally came up to a large, brick house, and peered inside.
The entire building was empty. Not a single object remained, save for the odd paper or graffiti marking. They stepped inside and searched around, the wind howling through cracks and broken glass, their feet echoing off the floor as they looked in the rooms. It was still unclear as to what his building was, and they entered the first room they found. Nothing was inside but the stray paper or dead brush, and they entered the next room, and the next, and the next, finding little to no useful items. But then, the final room they had to enter, looked closed. The door was shut and locked from the outside, sealing whatever lay in there in a tomb, for the windows were thick. Twilight stepped back a bit, took a breath, and rammed the door, but it wouldn't budge. She, Rainbow and Applejack then rammed it all together, and the door collapsed. As they looked around, they noticed everything was still in its place. The desk was rotting and splintered, as if smashed for the sake of it, and there was a metal closet in the corner of the room, along with a few lockers, all closed. The floor was falling away, down into a black, dirty pit as they walked along the floorboards.
"Is this a school? A gym? What the hell is this place?" Rarity looked at the room in confusion and paranoia.
"It looks to be either or both," said Twilight. "I just don't know, I don't remember this building before the fallout."
They moved to the lockers, aiming their weapons, and opened them to find nothing. They moved through each one, finding nothing but dead rodents, moldy food and other disgusting and foul things not to be mentioned. They searched the desk and found it had been picked clean, not a single object remaining, and moved to the closet. A stench most foul came from there, and they smelled rotting flesh and death, along with decay and fecal matter. But the most curious detail, was the whimpering coming from the closet. It sounded like a mix of crying, giggling and moaning, and they could hear the breathing in between the unearthly sounds. Twilight stood in front of the group, and she reached for the handle, turning it slowly, and pulling it open fast. And inside, on the floor, curled in a heap of writhing madness, was the decomposing yet living body of Apple Bloom, shaking and grinning madly. They could only stare and bow their heads as Applejack made her way to the front, saw the scene, and broke down sobbing and shaking. The others gave her room as she reached for the body, but couldn't bring herself to touch her deranged sister. With a bow of her head, a whispered "I'm sorry," and a sob, she aimed her gun and fired. The whining stopped, and all they could hear was Applejack sobbing as Dash tried to comfort her. There were other objects in the closet covering mounds on the floor, and Twilight once again reached into the closet, and uncovered the other two Cutie Mark Crusaders, Scootaloo and Sweetie Belle, eaten and rotted.
"Sweetie? I...." Rarity joined Applejack in the noise of a thousand tears, and Dash looked away from the body of her number one fan. They left the room in a mess of emotion, and left the abandoned building in which their siblings and students lay.
On the other side of the street, Dusk and Screw were just finishing a house search, finding nothing of use. Screw threw his jacket off in heat and frustration, sighing. "We've found nothing at all to use, and the longer this infection lasts the more who'll die, and deaths on my conscience doesn't sit well with me."
Dusk looked at him. "While taking a life is a sacrilegious act, to me at least, if it is in defense there are exceptions. Just don't ever take the life of an innocent child, no matter how they were found, unless infected or suffering."
Screw nodded, and they saw the girls exit the building, and immediately the first thing they noticed were the crying trio of Dash, Applejack and Rarity. They rushed over, trying to find out what happened and were met with a jumble of noises. Dusk and Screw finally got them to settle down and heard the story, pulling them all into an embrace before drying their tears. "We need to get to the Royal Palace then, I feel that any enemy of Equestria would make it theirs as a sign of victory."
They nodded and headed towards the deeper city, looking around for signs of danger. As they walked the broken, dusty street, the wind blew an unpleasant scent to them, and they noticed even more bodies scattered around in heaps. Continuing, Screw ventured slightly from the group, and his leg tugged at a wire in a door, and he dodged just in time to avoid a shotgun to the head. He got up and dusted himself off, looking at the crude trap and nodding. "You know what we call that? Getting a 'head' in life. Aha!"
Dusk chuckled and Spike burst out laughing as they continued to go deeper into the broken city. A small group of vultures sat on a broken stone wall, pecking at a small carcass, as they walked to a car. Nothing and nobody was inside the shell, so they moved on and tried to joke to keep each other entertained as they traveled to the high, broken palace, the towers looking over their city like dark sultans, the windows like blank eyes as they stared at the group of travelers, sending chills down their spines. Spike remembered the palace fondly, and to see it in such a state destroyed his childhood in pieces. The very thought of the Royal Palace in such disrepair and abandonment made tears well in his eyes, his shoulders tensing.
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
As the group walked along, a dark figure sat atop the tallest tower, looking down on them with hate and mockery, smiling and licking her dirty teeth. Today, oh yes today, you all shall fall, and my defeat so long ago will be avenged, but not just me, nor every one of my hive, but I'll also destroy your family. Twilight Sparkle, your will is mine."
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
The group of survivors continued, unaware of the eyes that peered at them from windows and towers, and stopped at the gates to the palace. Not a single tower wasn't destroyed, broken or misplaced in the remnants of the building, and the once white walls stood cracked and dirty and bloodied. Dead bodies lay by the walls in a row, most likely the result of a death squad, and they searched for any items. All they found was a small pistol, an energy bar and juice, but it would help nonetheless.
They took deep breaths, preparing for the events ahead, and stepped forth into the grounds, not knowing what traps may befall them, but knowing it was much too late to turn back now. But as they took their first steps forward, Twilight heard a beeping sound, and threw herself at her friends just as a small explosion broke the ground where they had stood. Their ears rang, and Applejack noticed a sign on the wall beside the area.
"there was a crooked man and he walked a crooked mile, he found a crooked sixpence upon a crooked stile. He bought a crooked cat which caught a crooked mouse, and they all lived together in a little crooked house."
Rainbow Dash groaned. "What the flying blue fuck does that mean? Crooked guys with crooked things?"
"No, I think it's a path y'all, look at the ground. There's patches. But there's deeper green right there, but it looks like a path, a crooked path. A crooked mile. I think that this here sign is a clue, so let's just throw it to the wind and run. Ready, on three."
And so they ran, faster than ever before in their lives as the bombs went off around them, setting off a chain reaction as they raced to avoid death. Dash nearly got killed, but Pinkie picked her up and set her back on her feet, the chunks of earth hitting them at higher speeds than bearable as they neared the door, and finally jumped into cover as the last of the mines detonated.
"Well, we're lucky that the bombs were smaller than I'd assumed, other wise my plan wouldn't have worked. Hell I didn't think it'd work anyway, tell you the truth, I just hoped and ran."
Twilight was livid. "What the fuck is wrong with you!"
She an Applejack bickered while the others looked at the door, and Fluttershy noticed a small hole, similarly shaped to a sword strike, and she looked around for what could have caused it. The others were finally getting over their dispute and coming over, and they tried to door to have the surprise of the door swinging open, despite appearing locked. They peered inside and found it empty, the once grand halls in disrepair and misuse, footprints and ammunition lying around in the place. Then they saw it, right at the top of the stairs, the caged bodies of Princesses Luna and Cadance.

I'm liking doing this, but I'm running out of crap for them to do. So in a few chapters our little survival will be done, and I CAN FINALLY WORK ON OTHER CRAP BECAUSE I GOT RID OF MY WRITER'S BLOCK! By the way,
Equestria: The Wasted Land
They rushed up the stairs to the cage, trying to jiggle the lock, but it wouldn't budge, and they saw no movement except faint breathing from both women. Twilight shot the lock with her gun and the cage flung open, the two women inside collapsing. The group rushed to them and checked their pulses for better ideas of their health, but found nothing. Twilight and AJ were able to finally get Luna to come to, and while the others worked on Cadance they tried to see what was happening.
"It's Chrysalis... she's left us here as a trap... kill that bitch before she finds Tia."
"Don't worry Luna, we'll find her. I think, I haven't told anyone else this, but I think it wasn't just the Griffons, it was the Changelings too. I think both decided to take over Equestria by using the toxic agent. Pretty stupid because it killed off the inhabitants, but I doubt either had much use for slaves, their numbers were big and getting bigger. We'll be back, I promise."
Twilight and the others ran off through the large, abandoned palace halls, their footsteps echoing off the large walls as they searched the rooms. Closets, halls, rooms, and the kitchen had been searched thoroughly by the time they fond something useful. A small, barely visible strand of green hair, sitting atop the counter as if placed there. Twilight picked it up, and tried to remember who or what might have had hair this color and shade, and then she knew it; it was the same character they sought after currently, and she quickly looked around for more. Her eyes were sharpened over the years of studying and surviving, and she found yet another hair in the door. Dash and Fluttershy were sent to look around the room for more, and Applejack and Pinkie went with Dusk and Screw, leaving Rarity and Twilight to look for any sign of a trail or tracks. They finally found what looked like a heeled combat boot by the corner, leading out of the door, but it was just barely visible. But then they looked up and saw wet tracks, all the same print, leading to the throne room. This sparked hope in them as they found yet another trail to follow; small spots of blood led away from the seats, and through the door, seemingly leading to the royal bedrooms. They loaded their guns and ran upwards, their pursuit causing spikes of adrenaline to rush through them as they ascended the stairs. They tried the doors along the way but all were locked, and they were halfway up when they saw her. Standing away from them in combat gear, smirking, was Queen Chrysalis herself, standing with sword in hand and malicious glint in her eye.
"Hello again, you six, and three friends with you? I'm flattered. Tell me, Twilight, how's Celestia doing?"
"Fine, especially now that I'm going to rip your throat out and get rid of this damned infection."
"Mmm, feisty girl, but I'm afraid I'm the only one with knowledge about the cure, had to make sure only we could be fixed, right? And anyway, I never truly told you why I let you live so long, did I? I don't think I told you why I made entering so easy, or why I left such clues for you. You see, you've been fed a lie all these years, a lie that Celestia has tried hard to continue, but without her here I may speak freely. Your precious mother isn't your mother at all, she was merely a puppet for dear old Celly to use at will. No, she was never your mother, you were taken from your mother. Twilight Sparkle, you belong to me, you are my daughter, and I will kill you."
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Twilight Sparkle's mind was rather fragile to begin with, having the stress of not just studies or being a savior, but being new royalty as well. It left stress boiling inside her, but the rain and the revelation that one of her strongest enemies was her mother was enough to break her mind even more, till she only had a sliver of belief left. "No, you're a liar, my mother was a wonderful woman, kind and help-"
"The one you call your mother is nothing but a lie, a fraud to keep you from knowing your past, present, and future. If you accept me, then I will spare you and your friends, and even Princess Cadance, but if you reject, you're all to die before my troops are fed. I have sent a whole third of my forces to surround your precious princess, and they've been informed on all the weaknesses. You can thank the cooperation of Flash Sentry and the Wonderbolts for that, they're quite useful as spies and messengers."
At the mention of the names, Rainbow Dash raised her gun and threw it at the woman, missing by an inch. "Shut the fuck up about them, they would never help you! They're loyal to the princesses and they-"
"They what? Turn to another side for their own personal safety and greed? You're pathetic, really, with your foolish, though admirable loyalty. You really are the stubborn girl everyone thinks you are. Just as Rarity's just a mediocre designer, or that Applejack has lied all these years. None of you are as you seem, are you?"
But Twilight noticed a tricky flash in Chysalis's eye, and she knew what was happening, and she pointed her gun at the woman. "Shut the fuck up! You're telling lies so we doubt each other, and turn against one another! You plan to split us up to make it easier! Why don't you fight us? No guns, no projectiles, good old fists and blades."
Chrysalis smiled, licking her lips. "On the bridge, now, and one on one, yeah? Or are you all cowards? We shall see."
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
The rain had come again, pelting hard against all surfaces as lightning flashed in the distance. The wind and rain battered against the group of figures on the bridge, and the two figures in the center stared each other down, judging their opponent. Twilight's hair flew in her face as she scowled, creating an impression of near insanity as she stared Chrysalis in the eyes. "You think you've won just because you're a queen? You think you will walk away today unscathed just because of my lack of training? It's not over, the game just started with you and me."
Chrysalis smirked and chuckled. "Just started? Daughter, it was rigged from the start."
Twilight jumped forward and thrust with her fist, doing as she was taught and aiming for the heart and throat, but Chrysalis was trained in all combat styles and blocked, unsheathing a small knife and lunging for her opponent, but Twilight was able to duck and roll out of the way before the blade could do harm. As she got back up, she saw Chrysalis take out a small radio, the rain and wind whipping around her to make her seem mad with hatred and bloodlust. "All troops to the bridge! Kill the rest!"
As she put the radio away, a trembling sound could be heard, and dozens of Changeling troops surged the area. Twilight growled and picked up a four foot long metal pole, swinging it around and testing the weight, which she found suited her purposes excellently. She saw Chrysalis lunge and she blocked, hitting her in the side with the pole as she saw the rest of the group get swarmed. Dusk and Screw stood back to back, the rest of them surrounding the two as forces surged forth from the palace, underneath the bridge, and across the bridge, the entire Hive seemingly present as Twilight whacked Chrysalis on the shoulder, causing the woman to gasp in pain and anger. She lunged for Twilight again as they fought endlessly by the side of the bridge.
Dusk and Screw were holding off Changeling troops when one bit into Dusk's leg, causing him to kick him, his head rolling to the side from the force. Screw used Dusk's back as a wall and jumped up, kicking the faces of four enemies and causing them to collapse, their necks broken. Fluttershy was using her pistol as a club, and Rarity tabbed furiously with a pair of long scissors she kept for emergencies. Spike was busy twirling around a metal rod, using it as a club as he tried hard to defend himself from the horde and writhing mass of bodies.
Twilight was still fighting and losing, Chrysalis being more trained and prepared than she was, and she tried to hit her in the head with the pole, but Chrysalis made a small stab, causing Twilight's shirt to rip and her chest started to bleed, angering her even more as she growled and tackled the woman. She looked into her eyes and saw insanity and the need to kill. "Daughter, release me so I can kill you."
Twilight smiled, rolling over and kicking the woman off of her, and onto the sides of the bridge, the chasm below stretching far down until sight failed. She smirked and rushed back to Twilight and kicked her legs from under her, making Twilight fall face first and roll onto her back, standing up and brushing herself off as the noise of fighting and swarming continued. "I don't think so mother."
Chrysalis tried to fight but with one solid kick Twilight sent her falling over the side, screaming. But Chrysalis grabbed her shoe and pulled Twilight with her, both of their screams piercing the air. Twilight grabbed the side and looked down at her mother, hanging on for dear life and cackling madly, eyes bloodshot and wide.
"If I die, then I'm taking out my spawn as well!"
"Get the fuck off me you bitch!" Twilight tried to kick her off but Chrysalis still clung. She pulled herself up slightly before falling back down, spying a ledge not too far down and leaping for it, bringing her assailant with her. She got up and wiped the mud from her eye, looking around to find Chrysalis already up and ready in fighting stance. Twilight lunged, pouncing on her and smashing her head into the ground, cursing and bashing as she attempted to kill her enemy. But she wasn't dead yet, and threw one final punch at Twilight, sending her almost to the edge as she slowly picked herself up again, grimacing and cackling.
"Silly girl, you can't kill me, I have more training than you ever wi-"
Just at that moment Twilight jumped up, kicking Chrysalis in the stomach, sending her flailing down to the inky blackness of the chasm, screaming and cackling madly until it faded away into nothing more than a memory. Twilight tried to find a way up, but couldn't locate one, so she took a sharp rock she found nearby, and tore into her pants, cutting off strips until she was only barely covered from the waist down and tied the strips together. She found the long metal bar she had been using and tied the makeshift rope to it, throwing it up to the bridge and tugging it. It stuck, so she wrapped her hand in it and jumped, and was relieved to find she still stayed in the air. She slowly made the ascent up the rope, nearly slipping as she felt the cold, hard rain hit her face and body, and finally she crawled over the side to see most Changelings dead and dying, only a dozen left standing. She took out her pistol, aimed it, and downed five of them in a row with one shot, making the rest turn to her. She grinned, waving as she downed another three, her gun's smoke disappearing as the rain fell harder. And as the rain fell, she walked up to the last Changeling and knelt down next to him, watching him cower in fear. "Do you know what? I'm not going to shoot you. No, it's too good for you, you're going straight down to Tartarus with mother."
And with that she picked him up by the collar, her strength exceeding even her own expectations as she flung the last of her mother's clan down into the inky blackness of the chasm.

Coming up to the ending guys and gals, it's been fun but damn what a long and painful ride it was.
Equestria: The Wasted Land
"It's over. We won, we can tell Princess Celestia now. We just kill the Changelings around the base and we can start repairing Equestria." She smiled and hugged her friends, crying in happiness and exhaustion as the rain slowly died, her bare skin feeling a warmth as they all looked towards the far horizon and smiled. The sun came out to celebrate their victory with them, and they all felt years of stress melt away, though the tragedies remained. Twilight looked to the others and smiled. "We can go to Celestia and give her the good news."
Dusk and Fluttershy had been at the back of the group, quiet and reserved until they heard that. They had been locked in a kiss as Twilight was talking, and at the notice of their gazes they slowly pulled away from each other and grinned sheepishly. Fluttershy was blushing a deep crimson and trying to hide behind her hair. "I kind of... have a... thing for Dusk...."
"You don't say? I'm glad you found someone you're happy with, and Dusk?"
Dusk looked up at hearing his name and blushed. "Yes?"
Twilight got directly up to his face, a dangerous glint in her eyes. "If you do one thing to hurt her, you bet your ass I will hunt you down and make sure that you never feel anything down there again, got it?"
Dusk looked her in the eyes as Screw smirked, trying to hold in laughter. "Of course, Princess Twilight, I would never harm her willingly. And I assure you, you wouldn't be able to catch me."
Twilight smiled as they got in the car, driving back down the road and to the open countryside, heading back towards the EDAU base ad Princess Celestia, bursting with happiness and excitement; they could finally rebuild, start anew, and Equestria could go back to normal; but it would never be normal, never again. They laughed and joked on the ride, teasing each other with dares as they terminated all undead they saw, ridding all traces of infection from immediate sight. They got to the base and informed the princess, and she hugged them all and sent out soldiers to eradicate the rest of the infected, then she sent out another group to see an estimated time of rebuilding all major cities and towns, Canterlot included. After Celestia went off to fly to Canterlot Golden Heart and Caramel Twist showed up, bandaged and smiling, and they conversed about future endeavors.
Three years later, Equestria was born again, and its streets and homes thrive again, the outbreak simply a memory in the minds of those who were there. But they know, deep down in their being, that nothing will ever truly be the same, because they know they'll never recover from the horrors they experienced, in the wasted lands.

I'M F***ING DONE! YAHA! *blows streamers and sh** around* Finally, it's been a long, hard go, and I had a little fun, but damn this needed to be finished. I hope you all enjoyed and I will see you in the next story.
