The most dangerous angels that you ever saw
It’s been a year and a half, and Spike has done nothing but mope around lately. He’s been living with his older relative, Twilight for almost a six months after his parents kicked him out after he was arrested for vandalism and possession of marijuana and cigarettes. His argument was that nobody has ever died smoking weed and that he was creating art, but instead of using a canvas, he used the world, but his parents heard none of it. It was either get out and come back clean, or not at all.
Twilight walked into Spike’s room where he sat on his bed literally watching the paint dry on his walls. Twilight sighed and simply said,
“Oh Spike,” as she sat down next to him on the bed. Spike’s eyes just kept looking forward at the wall. Twilight put her arm around Spike’s neck and pulled him close. “Spike come on, go outside. I’ll take care of the chores for today. I think you need to take a break from… uh. Just go take a long walk or something.”
“Twilight?” Spike asked, looking at Twilight. His eyes beginning to water. “Why am I so useless? Why do I not have a purpose? I-I feel like I want to do something, be somebody, but I just don’t know what or how I’m going to do it. I feel like a rat in a maze with cheese scented walls. There’s no end to the maze, but I continue to search because of that small glimmer of hope that I can actually do something or be somebody that matters.” Spike’s eyes start to water, and he wipes his tears with his jacket sleeve. “I want to quit Twilight… I didn’t get into college, I don’t have a job. I literally leech off of you Twilight, and I’m sorry. I don’t think I should bother you with living here anymore.”
Spike stood, and walked into his bathroom leaving Twilight on his bed.
“I’m going out Twilight. I don’t know if I’ll be back. Please don’t wait up.” Spike said, as he started to pull out a hiking bag from the closet. He started by putting a towel in the bottom, then a sleeping bag, and then the small amount of money he’s mady by helping Twilight out around the house.
“Spike, NO!” Twilight cried after seeing him throw things in his bag. She launched herself at the door, but Spike shut it before she had a chance to stop him. “Spike, Please! You don’t need to leave!” She banged on the door as hard as she could. Spike ignored her banging, and was instead more interested in his reflection in the mirror. He’s a pretty normal looking nineteen year old, other than the fact that he had a mohawk. He had a full head of hair, but the middle always stood up somehow. No matter what he tried to do, it never stayed down. Spike really hate his appearance most of the time, but sometimes when Twilight decided to take him to a formal party at one of her friend’s mansion, she died his hair brown and rented a tux for him. That was the only time he’s ever liked looking at himself in a mirror. He wore black skinny jeans and a dark purple shirt. Over that, he wore a thin blue hoodie. He had no piercings, but he had a tattoo of a Blue Flame on his left shoulder. He always wore blue casual shoes or a pair of skateboarding shoes. His eyes were greener than an emerald, and his teeth were all perfectly straight. Spike looked away from his image in the mirror with contempt, and sighed.
Twilight’s cries continued to resonate through the door, as spike dropped a few pairs of clothes into the bag and shut it. Twilight must have forgotten that she and Spike share the bathroom, so there was another way out. Spike figured it out, and walked out of Twilight’s room and into the living room. He stood in front of Twilight's favorite coffee table, and pulled a small letter from his pocket. Carefully, he placed it on the table along with his house key, and walked to the front door. Before twisting the knob and leaving, he took a long breath and took everything in.
After about a solid minute, he walked out the door, with his heart weighing a hundred tons.
“Goodbye Twilight,” He whispered as he made his way down the street, and towards the highway.
Spike sat at the edge of a bridge, watching the sun go down. The beautiful reds, purples pinks and oranges mixed into a beautiful painting that happened around the same time every day, but no one really ever stopped to appreciate it.
“Good bye Ponyville, and good-bye shitty life.” Spike said, as he prepared to fall into the dark, cold waters of the lake beneath him. Something vibrated in his jacket pocket that interrupted his jump. Spike pulled out his phone, and answered it.
“Hello?”
A familiar voice answered
“Hi Spike! Long time no see!”
“B-belle?” Spike asked.
“Yeah! Hey, how are you doing?” asked Belle.
“Not doing so hot.” Spike answered. “Actually, you interrupted my suicide.”
There was silence on the line for a second but then Belle was back on.
“Where are you?” She asked with a sincere tone
“Why do you care? I don’t mean anything to you.”
“Spike, where are you?” She demanded.
“I-I’m on the bridge near the highway. The one over East Bay”
“Drive faster Scootaloo! Spike, don’t you DARE jump on me. I’m on my way, just don’t move!”
Spike dropped his phone into the abyss below him, and prepared to do the same, despite Belle’s words. Behind him, a screech of tires again interrupted his death. He heard a door open, and then slam shut.
“Spike! No!” Belle screamed, running towards Spike as fast as she possibly could. She pulled Spike back, away from the ledge, and hugged him. It felt… nice.
“Hi Belle,” Spike said, as Belle broke the hug.
“Spike, don’t you ever scare me like that again!” She screamed. Spike felt instantly guilty when he saw her face clearly. She had been crying.
“H-hey, are you okay Belle?” Spike asked gently.
“W-why did you want to jump?”
Spike thought he had an actual reason to jump, but after looking again, he didn’t really know, and that’s what he said back.
“Come on, let’s go back to Scootaloo’s house. It’s getting cold. We can talk about this there.”
Spike didn’t have an option to decline. He couldn’t face Twilight now after what he’d just planned to do. maybe another day, but not now. Another reason was because Belle wouldn’t let him anyway. Spike then noticed two more girls behind Belle, who were none other than Belle and Scootaloo. He’d known all three girls all throughout school, but separated in their high school years. They both looked pretty devastated too.
“Come on Spike, come with us. I promise we’ll make you feel better.”
“A-alright, if you say so” spike said as he picked up his hiking bag off of the ground and walked to the car.
Spike’s heart pounded inside his chest.
Thump. Thump. Thump
It’s his graduation day. Finally, after twelve years of long and mind-numbing torture, he’s free. Spike listened closely for his name to be called so he could go ahead and get the living hell out of here. Out of this incredibly strangely named town of Ponyville, out of his parent’s lives. Just finally away from the world in general. He never was an A+ student, or even an honor roll student. He had decent grades until he started going downhill around the ninth grade, when a friend of his offered him a blunt. After that, Spike dropped his interest in school completely.
“Sweetie Belle” Called the Principal
He realized that all he needed to do was pass high school, and he was a free man to do whatever he wanted to do. Of course, he didn’t exactly know what to do after, but he figured that he’d realize it as soon as it comes.
“Spike”
Spike stood from his chair and made his way up to the podium. A round of applause rang out as he took the diploma from the Principal’s hand. A long breath exited spike’s lungs that he hadn’t realized he was holding in, and he felt so much calmer. After shaking the hand of the Principal, Vice Principal, and his favorite teacher, Ms. Cheerilee, he waited until the very last name was called out. He followed the rest of the graduating class outside into the school courtyard to toss the hats.
“Congratulations Seniors!”
A roar erupted from the senior class, as the everyone tossed their hats into the air, and watched them flutter down.
“I’m free”
