Falling for a Mail Mare
Final Chapter - The day an author lived his life.
Previous ChapterWe then began the big move. My house was much smaller than Derpy's being made for only one pony. So I moved into her house, thankfully I'm a minimalist. All I really brought with me was my desk, clothes, and some minor other things. I then took my stuff and quickly moved in. Our routine changed around very easily. Since I stay at home to write books, I now took care of Dinky a lot. Days passed, I was finally able to start my next book. Dinky then approached me one day.
“Hey dad, what are you writing?”
“My current novel Dinky.”
“Why?”
“Well, making books is my job.”
“So what do you write about?”
“Well, a write a character who travels place to place and staying there for a year.”
“Sounds boring.”
“Well, its all about meeting different ponies and interacting with different ponies.”
“Huh, so who is your character meeting this time? Is it mom?”
“No, that was my previous book.”
“Really?”
“Yeah, I was thinking about my character meeting a character like you Dinky.”
“Really?!”
“Yeah, you're my daughter-in-law. Why wouldn't make a character like you?”
“Well, what about you?”
“Hmm?”
“Is your main character based on you?”
“Well, that's a good question...”
“Huh?”
“Well, the main character isn't really based on me. It's more, well Dinky, the character is more of what I want to be but I can't be.”
“I don't get it.”
“I just mean that I want to be like my main character because he's better than me.”
“That's dumb.”
“What?”
“Why are to trying to be someone you made up?”
“Well, because I want to be better but I can't.”
“Like I said dad, that's dumb. Aren't you someone else than that character?”
“....” I paused.
“Well?”
“I guess you're right Dinky, I'm sorry. I never realized it, I just kept writing.”
“See? Its all okay, right?”
“Thanks Dinky.”
Derpy soon came home and I kissed her on the cheek.
“Long day?”
“Yeah, no kidding.”
“You feeling okay, hon?”
“No, I've been in and out of it all day.”
“Well, I'll get some supper started.”
“Thanks.”
Derpy loved on Dinky and then went to the bathroom, at the time, I didn't think about it at all. I started to make the best food I could. I'm no chef but I cook decent meals. I then put the food on the table and Derpy slowly walked out of the bathroom with an absolute scared look on her face.
“Something wrong honey? You look pale as a sheet.”
“....Red, I....”
“What's wrong?”
“I'm pregnant.”
I froze. I couldn't move. Before I knew it I was crying. There were so many tears. They just wouldn't stop.
“Are you sure honey?”
“...Yes.”
She just looked at me, crying a waterfall of tears. I then went up to her and kissed her long and hard.
“Are you scared Derpy?”
“....I don't know.”
“I'm here.”
“Yes, I know.”
She then hugged me. Dinky then asked what we meant and we told her she was about to have a sibling. I think she was still a bit confused. We ate our supper and then went to bed.
“Do you think we will be able to handle this?” my wife asked me.
“I don't know, I guess we just have to wait and find out.”
“Yeah...”
“Don't worry, whatever happens, we'll face it together.”
“Thank you Red.”
The months passed quickly and before we knew it, she had the child. It was a colt. We named him Flying Feather. He was an adorable little pegasus. Before we knew it, he was growing up into a stallion. Years passed by, I wrote book after book, getting us the revenue we needed. After having Flying Feather, Derpy quit her mail mare job. She helped Carrot Top on the side sometimes but we made sure to save plenty of bits. Dinky grew up and became quite the unicorn. She began more into magic and became a magic teacher. As for my son Flying Feather, he became a WonderBolt. I was so proud of him, being able to much more athletic than I ever was. He's trying to be a captain in the WonderBolts now. Eventually, the years passed and passed till me and Derpy were old elder ponies. Then one day, we sat down on that old couch of ours.
“Man, I can't believe all this happened to us huh?”
“No kidding Red, even now it feels like a dream come true.”
“You know something honey?”
“What Red?”
“Do you regret anything?”
“No.”
“Same here, well maybe one.”
“Oh really.”
“I wish I could have met you earlier.”
“Why, do you say that?”
“Because I would have had more time with you.”
“....Hmm..guess that's not a bad regret.”
“Thanks.”
“Can I tell you something though?”
“Sure.”
“You're not the best romantic.”
“Oh I know.”
“So, I have a question for you now.”
“What is it?”
“If you could do it all over again, would you?”
“No, unless you were there with me.”
“....I had a feeling you would say that.”
“I'm that predictable?”
“Oh yes.”
We then kissed again. We just sat there in front of the fireplace. I knew that there were still a few years left in my old engine. Derpy was the same but it didn't matter for us.
“You know Red, I wish this moment could last forever.”
“We've said that a lot in our life.”
“I know. Crazy isn't it?”
“Yeah, no kidding.”
We just kept sitting there in front of the fireplace. We kissed one more time and both of us had huge smiles on our faces. That was my story. I found love and had a good life. What a life it was.
THE END
