Falling for a Mail Mare
Chapter 6 - The day an author went on his second date
Previous ChapterNext ChapterThe next few days before the second date passed by with nothing but writing. Then I suddenly stopped, and I found myself at a complete halt. I couldn't write the final chapter of my book. Now I knew the book wasn't due for months from now but still, I always have an ending in mind. Every one of my books ends at the end of a year, that's how their written for my character's story. I knew I had an ending in mind when I started writing the book but I think I forgot about it. I never did that, I've wrote eight books in my series and this was the first time this ever happened. It was still a day before the second date with her. I looked at the clock and it was only noon. I wanted to see her again. I then decided to wrap up my newest book even though it didn't have its final chapter. I wrote a message to editor Ink Basher saying that I couldn't write the final chapter but to go ahead and edit what I already wrote. I had never done this before but I'm sure Ink won't mind. He's a pretty swell pony even though he is super serious about editing and just not serious about anything else. I then left the house and proceeded to the post office. I then entered the post office.
“Hello?” I asked.
“Hold on a second please....” said Derpy. Her head then popped up, “How can I – Red?! Aren't we going to meet tomorrow?”
“Yes, but I got another package for you to Manehatten.”
“Another one? Did you already finish your next book?! That was fast!”
“Well no, but I'm going to let it get edited anyway, 25 bits right?”
“That's right!”
“Thank you Derpy.”
“You don't have to thank me, its my job after all!” she said with a huge grin. Maybe that was all I needed to see, that beautiful smile.
I put a smile on and said, “I'll see you tomorrow beautiful!” She then blushed a bright red on her face.
“Why did you say that?”
“You don't like it?”
“No, its just embarrassing.”
“Heehee, sorry, it just kinda blurted out.”
“It's cool. See you later.”
I left with a smile on my face and before I knew it, it was tomorrow. I then quickly went to get her for our date. We met and went to get another dinner together. After we began eating, Derpy spoke up and asked me a question. “Say Red, why did you come to post office yesterday?”
“What do you mean? I needed my package delivered.”
“But, when you came in, I don't know if you knew it but you looked really sad and confused.”
“Oh.... let's just say I wasn't having a good day.”
“Oh, what happened?”
“Well, I'm almost finished my book and I couldn't write the final chapter.”
“Why not, couldn't think of anything?”
“I guess, its just, these past few days have been a daze. I've just wrote all day long and I can't remember any of now. That never happens to me.”
She looked at me as directly as she could and then softly spoke, “Something happened to you, didn't it? What happened?”
I could tell instantly she saw right thru me, I then spoke up and slowly said, “I, um, after I had that wonderful day with you and Dinky, I had to get some groceries. Then, well, a few ponies were making fun of me there about being with you and I got angry.”
“Oh no, you didn't get into a fight did you?”
“No, I almost did but thankfully a friend stopped us and made me realize it wasn't worth it.”
She paused for a bit and then said, “Thank you for not fighting.”
“Why?”
“Because I don't want you to get hurt.... and I don't you to ever get into fight because of me!”
“Why not? No pony should make fun of you.”
“Didn't you just answer your own question? It's not worth it.”
I paused and then realized what she really meant. She was saying she cared for me and that's what was really important.
“You're right Derpy, I'm sorry.” I then started to tear up and began to cry, “I'm so sorry, I'm so so sorry.”
She gave a shocked look and then comfortingly said, “Don't cry Red, Thank you for caring about me so much Red.”
A big smile got one my face and both realized our appetites were gone. I got the check and we left the restaurant in tears of joy. I took her to her house and Dinky greeted us.
“Hi Mommy! Hiya Red!” she yelled.
“Welcome back,” said Carrot Top, “You're back early.”
“Yeah and its awesome!” exclaimed Dinky.
“Thank you so much for looking after her Carrot.” said Derpy.
“No problem.” she said and then left the house.
“Hooray! Hooray! Mommy's home! Mommy's home! Yay!” exclaimed Dinky even more.
“Calm down muffin.” said Derpy.
Then suddenly Derpy flopped on the floor and started snoring.
“Whoa, that was quick, does she do that often?”
“Yep, she runs out of energy quicker than she thinks.”
We slowly put her to bed, making sure not to wake her up. We then sat on Derpy's couch in her living room.
“.... What a day, sorry if you thought the date was horrible Derpy.”
“No, it was great, I'm just glad we're together.”
“Really?”
“Yeah, when you came into the post office yesterday looking like that, I couldn't stop thinking something was wrong.”
“I'm sorry I made you worry Derpy.”
“No, I'm just glad you're okay.”
“.... Thank you Derpy.”
“You're welcome Red.”
“Thank you for letting me be with you.” I said as we both looked at her fireplace.
“Is it okay to call you my boyfriend, Red?”
“...Sure, as long as I can call you my girlfriend, Derpy.”
“Sure you can. Oh no...”
“What's wrong?”
“How rude of me. I never asked if you wanted a drink or anything when you came in.”
“Don't worry about it.”
“Well, I'm going to get myself something, want some tea?”
“Sure.”
I'm not sure what happened next, I just saw Derpy go into the kitchen and next thing I knew it was morning. Apparently, I fell asleep on her couch. I woke up completely embarrassed. I then apologized over and over while she keep that same magical smile on her face. She told me not to worry about and we agreed to try another date next week. I left Derpy's house feeling a little slow and sluggish but I knew one thing for sure. Today would be a brighter day and there were brighter times ahead of me.
