Chapter 8 - The day an author had too many visitors

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

A few days after the ball I realized that me and Derpy had been dating for two months now. It was then I had the most strangest day. It started really early, almost unreasonably early. I had just finished my breakfast when a knock came to my door. Now who could that be? I'm not expecting a package and me and Derpy are gonna meet up two days from now. I went to the door and then I saw the most unexpected person. “Ink Basher?! What are you doing here?”

“I'm here for multiple reasons.” he said with a smirk, “Can I come in, I am your editor and friend aren't I?”

“Um, sure, come on in.”

He walked in and scanned my house, he must judging my house. “Nice place you have here, very small and cozy.”

“Why are you here, Ink? If this is about my book, you could have just sent me a letter.”

“Don't worry, your next book isn't due for like another year though that is half of why I'm here.”

“Really?”

“Yeah, you're latest book you sent recently has sold really well. It's sold more than any of your previous books.”

“You're kidding, there's no way it was that good Ink.”

“I'm not kidding, your publisher would like to put it up for an award even.”

“Ugh, you know what I think about things like that Ink. I never really want to be super popular, I just want to write books.”

“So you don't want it put up for an award?”

“Yes.”

“Okay.”

“Wait, what? Why aren't you arguing Ink? Who are you and what have you done to my friend Ink Basher?”

“I'm not kidding, the publisher asked me to ask that and I'll give him that answer. I don't have a choice, the publisher likes you more than me.”

“....Okay, you could have settled that in a letter, why are you really here?”

“Well Red, why didn't you tell me you a marefriend?!” he yelled.

“Huh?”

“Don't play dumb, we've been friends for over eight years Red! Why didn't you tell me?!”

“I, uh, I...”

“The publisher was at the ball and he told me what happened.”

“Well, it just, sort of, well...”

“When did this happen? Of all the years I've known you, you've never gone after mares even once. How did this happen?”

“It... just sort of happened Ink... I didn't mean to hide it, it just, well...”

“It just happened, huh?”

“Yeah.”

“So, who is she?” he said with a sly smile.

“Give me a reason to tell you that.”

“Aw c'mon man, its cool, I'm just still surprised this happened. No wonder you're latest book was so good.”

“What?!”

“It's obvious she's an influence, isn't she?”

“.....”

“C'mon I'm kidding, though to be honest, I'm jealous of you.”

“Cuz I have a mare and a playboy like you can't keep one?”

“....Yes.”

“Well sorry Ink, I don't have another mare for you meet here, you'll have to find one yourself.”

“I know, I just... wanted to congratulate you. I just wanted to come and say that one of my best friends is moving on. It's just strange seeing how much you've changed.”

“....Thanks Ink.”

“Well, I'll leave ya alone Red, I had other business in Ponyville anyways. Good look on the courting.”

“Thanks Ink.”

He then left and I just sort of sat there. Have I changed that much? Huh.... I had no idea. Then about a hour later another knock came to my door. Okay, I wasn't supposed to have visitors today, what's going on? I opened then door only to be immediately hugged by the pony at the door.

“Oh my little Red!” she said as she hugged me.

“Mom? What are you doing here?!”

“Oh, can't a pair of parents meet their only son unannounced?”

At that moment I saw my dad, Crimson Shine was there too. My mom, Passion Breeze then let me go.

“All right, all right, come on in you two.”

We all walked in and sat down on my chair and couch. “So why are you two in Ponyville?”

“Were you always this serious son?”

“No, sorry. I just know that it's unusual for both of you to leave your shop. Especially you, Dad being a candle maker and you mom are a florist.”

“We closed the shop for the day and decided to see are only son.”

“And you didn't tell me?”

“Weren't not allowed to surprise you?”

“Well it's just, usually you come to me if the matter is really important or a holiday.”

“Oh its very important today.”

“Really? My birthday isn't for months and its between summer and fall. What could possibly be happening?”

“Why your publisher told us you were dating somepony!”

“Oh no.”

“Oh my little boy has finally grown up into a stallion! Oh I'm so proud, you used to be so shy as a little filly.”

“Look mom..”

“Well, what's her name? What's she like? Is she really nice? Does she have a good job? “

“MOM! Calm down.”

“Sorry.”

“Look, um, her name is Derpy Hooves and she works as a mail mare.”

“Oh, she delivers letters?”

“Yes, and we won't be able to meet her today, thankfully, she's out of town for her job till two days from now.”

“Aw, that's not fair.” my mom said with a pouty face.

“It can't be helped, though when she comes back we are going on a date after that.”

“Oh, planning ahead are we.” said my dad with a sly smile.

“It's called time management dad.”

“I'm just kidding, don't get so defensive son.”

“Ugh...”

After that, we continued to talk thru the rest of the day and eventually they finally left. Thank goodness they left, though it made realize something. I never asked who Derpy's parents were or if I should meet them. I went to bed with a scary thought, what if that ends in disaster?
