Why I Hate Paparazzi

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

I woke up the next morning in my room, lying in my bed. I sat up and looked around. Fang was on the floor, awake. When he saw me, he jumped onto the bed and started nudging me and pushing me out of the blankets. I eventually gave in and hopped out of bed. I walked downstairs. Everything seemed normal, so how did I end up in my house when I remember going to sleep under a tree?

I walked over to my DIY cooler and opened it up. Taking out an apple, I hungrily bit my fangs into it. Just then, I realized something about my fangs. They seemed to grow a tiny bit longer then I last remembered. It wasn't a huge difference, but I still noticed it. I didn't think of it too much and continued eating the whole thing, core and all. I found that the seeds are edible and that there isn't really a core, so I just ate the whole thing since then.

I walked over to the couch and sat down on it. I checked the time. Nine thirty. Pretty soon, I started thinking about last night. We almost kissed. Almost.

Just then, I got an interesting idea. I thought about taking her out to dinner, try to make up for last night. Since they don't have phones here, I wrote a letter and put it the mail. I made sure to write on the envelope it was put in, 'For Lyra Heartstrings eyes only! DO NOT OPEN THIS LETTER BON BON!!!', so that Bon Bon didn't get any funny ideas about spying on us again.

I told her to meet me at six at a restaurant called 'Greens & Goods', which was perfect. It wasn't too fancy, nor too messy. It also wasn't too expensive, so I could easily buy us something with my money. I still had about 99,000 bits left in that huge sack, and the pile barely went down more than two inches!

This seemed like a good plan to me. Make up for a ruined moment together by taking her out to dinner. I guess you could call it a date, but it was more intended to make up for last night.

Finishing my apple, I slept on the couch, setting an alarm clock nearby for five.

7 HOURS & 30 MINUTES LATER

I woke up to the sound of my alarm ringing. Turning it off, I walked back up to my room. I saw Fang was eating from the special 'Food Dispenser' that I had made for him. It was a simple machine. Fang pulls on a rope, and the bag of food starts pouring into a bowl on the floor, tilting on a special stand so the food comes out. Then, when it is full, he will let go of the rope, and the bag will be set back up into it's original position, suspended midair on a special stand built into the contraption.

I took off my white tee shirt and put in a hamper full of dirty clothes. Putting on a new pair of pants, I searched the room for another shirt. I couldn't seem to find one. I looked in the bathroom. Luckily, I found a nice white tee shirt (those white tee shirts made up most of my wardrobe, but I did have other clothing). I walked back downstairs and put on my belt with katana. I slipped on my brown leather coat to conceal the weapon.

Heading to the restaurant to wait for Lyra, I instead found Bon Bon, wearing her saddlebags, just outside the entrance. I walked up to her and asked why she was here.

Bon Bon reached into one of her saddlebags and took out the letter for Lyra, and handed it to me. "Before you say anything, I need to tell you something......Lyra............Lyra's gone..."

She reached into her saddlebags again and pulled something out. She handed handed me a note reading,

If you are wondering where I am right now, I went to Manehattan to calm down. I will be back someday soon.

Lyra Heartstrings

I looked back up at Bon Bon. "How much do trains to Manehattan cost?

30 MINUTES LATER

Me and Bon Bon were at the train station, ready to get on the train to the big city.

I looked at Bon Bon as the train started coming. "So, how long is the train ride to Manehattan?"

She thought for a moment. "I don't know. An hour, two maybe? All that I know is that it usually is a long trip. I've only gone there twice, and both were to meet an old friend of mine. And both of those times were also a long time ago, so I'm guessing at least an hour."

I wasn't very happy about that, but we had to find Lyra. I still had a large pouch of about one thousand bits in it, so I'm sure that money won't be too much of a problem. I made sure to leave a note on my front door in case anyone came to visit reading, 'Went to Manehattan. Be back someday this week. Roe.'

The train had arrived, and so many ponies came off that I almost had lost track of Bon Bon. We managed to get on the train, luckily, and sat down somewhere in an empty train car in the middle. Within a few moments the train had taken off, and we were on our way to Manehattan to find Lyra, get her and Bon Bon to be friends again, go home, and take Lyra out for some dinner.

The train ride was going to be long, so I decided to take a little nap to kill some time. Bon Bon, however, wouldn't let me.

"We have to be fully awake when the train stops so we can find Lyra as soon a possible."

"Ugh....fine. So, who was this 'Old Friend' of yours that you had visited there?"

She seemed pleased to have a story that would kill some time, since we both new that this was going to be a long trip. "Well, I had this friend, Amethyst Star, that used to live in Ponyville. She was best friends with me and Lyra, before you had arrived. But, everyday, she acted more and more like something was bothering her. When we asked her what was wrong, she didn't know how to tell us. We kept asking, especially Lyra, who can let curiosity get the best of her allot of the time, but out of nowhere, Amethyst just lashed out in anger."

"C'mon Amethyst, tell us!!!!! I wanna know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

"Hey, Amethyst, you can tell us anything, and we won't mind. Just please tell us, because I too am starting to get tired of Lyra's constant whining."

"I'm not whining! I'm just really curious!!!"

"Yeah right. I'm not telling you. It's kind of...........................It's.......I.....I can't explain it really..............I'm just not telling you. Even though you two are my best friends, and best friends usually don't keep secrets from each other, I can't tell you."

Lyra continued. "Come on Amethyst!!! Just tell us!!!!! Please? I promise I won't tell anypony else about it! Just please, please, PLEASE tell us!!!!!"

"Amethyst growled. "NO!!! I'm not telling you!!! And I will not ever tell you, so just stop asking before I get angry!!!!!"

Bon Bon raised an eyebrow. "But, you already are angry."

The pink mare rolled her eyes in frustration. "ANGRIER!!!!"

Bon Bon continued on with her talk about her ex friend. "And with that, she stomped out of the house and slammed the door so hard, one of the hinges had broken off. I guess it was really personal. She had moved to Manehattan for some closure, since she was born there and used to live there before she had moved to Ponyville to go to the same school that me and Lyra went to as fillies. I had visited her a few times, Lyra about four, and we made up. We don't get along as well, but we are at least good friends. None of us had ever brought it up since. If Lyra is anywhere, I guess she might be somewhere with Amethyst."

She looked up at me, and laughed as she saw my expression to how engrossed in her story I was.

Closing my jaw, I asked a stupid question that would have received a hoof to the stomach. "So, what was it that was bothering her?" I asked with a slight chuckle.

She glared at me, forcing me to stop joking about it.

The train had slowed down by allot, and when we looked outside, we could see ponies everywhere and tall buildings as far as the eye could see. We got off of the train, but pretty soon, I heard somebody yell, 'Is that the human?!'

I looked to my right and found a huge group of ponies rushing towards me with things like cameras, mics, notepads, you name it.

Me and Bon Bon ran to the left of the train, entering the city. Everywhere, more and more ponies were chasing me down to get their autographs or have some sort of interview with me, so we ended up running all over the place.

As we ran down into an alleyway and hid behind some dumpsters, I mumbled to myself, "I hate paparazzi."

I was glad when we had lost them, but now going into the city wasn't such a good idea now that I think about it. I peered out of the alleyway and looked around at some of the billboards. My face was on almost all of them. I had become a celebrity in this place.

"That explains allot." I looked down to my right and remembered that Bon Bon was with me. We quietly walked down some more empty streets, looking around for Lyra and even calling out her name once or twice on each street.

I looked down at Bon Bon. "Do you know where Amethyst's house is? Lyra could be there."

She thought for a moment. "No...I can't seem to remember."

We kept walking, thinking of ideas on where that mint green unicorn might be, until I, not paying any attention to anything else, accidentally walked into something and fell over. When I got up, I found a clothes rack on it's side with dresses here and there.

I heard a familiar voice coming from inside the building next to it. "Oh no! My dresses! What happened?!"

I saw a snow white unicorn with a purple, fancy looking mane rush out of the building and lift up the clothes rack and dresses, fixing them and setting them back down.

I responded with the only thing somebody would do when they see somebody they haven't seen in quite a while. "Rarity? What are you- never mind, do you know Lyra Heartstrings?"

"Oh, hello Roe. Oh, and yes I do know her, why do you ask?"

"Have you seen her anywhere here today or yesterday?"

"Hmm..........no, I haven't. Is that why you're visiting Manehattan?"

Bon Bon joined in. "Yeah, she left a note saying that she came here after we had fought, but we can't seem to find her anywhere here."

"Have you checked Amethyst Star's apartment?"

"You know where it is? Bon Bon here seems to have forgotten."

"Of course I do. Bon Bon, do you remember where the opera house is?"

"Yeah? Why?"

"Amethyst lives in a big apartment building on the same street as the opera house. It is the only apartment building there, so finding it should be easy. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to get going. These dresses aren't going to remodel themselves. Bye Bye!"

We watched as Rarity had left galloping down the street that we had come from.

I followed Bon Bon as she scanned every building in sight, then went down a street and stopped at an intersection to scan more buildings.
