Coming Home
Chapter 3
Previous ChapterNext ChapterOverdrive was a young stallion, just barely cresting the age of twenty. He was a skilled mechanic, wise plenty beyond his years. The crimson pegasus awoke every day to the sunlight peering through his window, where he would the spring out of bed, head into the bathroom, and fix his brown and gold mane into his trademark liberty spikes.
On this day, Overdrive had a very special opportunity ahead of him. His attention to detail and his high quality craftsmanship had landed him a wealthy, high profile client in Manehattan. He was to take the train from Ponyville, to Manehattan, in order to meet with his client later that day.
“This is it. Today’s the day I take the next step in my life,” he quipped, beaming with positivity and a touch of anxiety. He had no idea what to expect, but looked forward to the opportunity that awaited him.
After he finished cleaning himself up, he began to pack his bag with what he needed for the brief time he would spend in Manehattan. His tools, a notepad, a few snacks, his toothbrush, shampoo, a towel, as well as a bag of bits for any extra expenses he may incur along the way.
His ticket laid on his dining room table, and as he headed downstairs to depart for the train station, he stopped at the spare bedroom that laid empty in his house.
He sighed, as he looked in. He often envisioned that one day, he’d have his own foal to love and care for, and that this bedroom would be his foal’s bedroom. Unfortunately, he had yet to meet his one, true special somepony. He spent so much time perfecting his craft that he had little time for his personal life. In essence, he was a student of his own work. He always thought that once he had his own life sorted out, that he would then find love. What he didn’t expect was for his life’s work to keep him dedicated to it as it evolved each day.
“Someday,” he said, “someday I’ll have my own foal, maybe even a few of them. We’d all be one, big happy family.” At that moment, he turned the light out in the room, grabbed his bag, and went downstairs before grabbing his train ticket.
Overdrive then went outside, locked the front door, and headed towards the train. As he passed his many friends and neighbors, he’d stop for a moment, wave hello, have a brief conversation, and be headed on his way. Once he arrived at the train station, punctually of course, he gave the conductor his ticket, boarded the train, and took his seat for the long ride ahead of him.
