Chapters “Corporal Andrew? Could you help me out over here?” Princess Luna’s voice echoed from her office.
It was yet another late night for Andrew Michaels, a human who was the first to be trusted as a royal guard. Luna had personally selected him to be a Night Guard, as the two had become close friends in Andrew’s time in Equestria.
“Yes your majesty?” Andrew said, a hint of sarcasm in his voice.
“You know I loathe it when you use that term with me. It’s bad enough I have to address you by rank!” Luna sighed in exasperation.
“I know Luna.” Andrew said, entering the office.
“Could you escort me to my chambers. I’m about done for the night with this blasted paperwork.” Luna said, just about done with her work for the night.
“Of course my dear Moon Butt” Andrew jabbed.
His remark did not go unnoticed by Luna, who quickly hit him hard with her still slippered hoof.
“Ow! Ok! Ok! I get it!” Andrew whined, massaging his now bruised arm.
“Come now peasant!” She jested back.
“As you wish.” Andrew bowed and ushered her out the door.
“What was the big issue today? War? Economy? Diplomats?” Andrew asked as he did every night.
“Same shit different day as I believe you like to say” Luna giggled.
“Ah. Makes sense.” Andrew chuckled.
“I’ve been meaning to ask you this but why do you want me to accompany you to your room every night? You don’t need to answer if you don’t want to.” Andrew said, looking at Luna sideways.
“Well, things have been weird since I returned to Equestria. Ponies seem to look at me with a bad aftertaste. The one other human has been regarded as a saint as of lately due to his kindness. So I figured that if I was seen with a human, maybe ponies would soften up to me.” Luna explained.
“Or maybe you just wanted your knight in shining armor!” Andrew joked, stopping and striking a heroic pose on the stairs.
“You are so daft Andrew!” Luna laughed out loud.
“I try to be” Andrew joked.
As they arrived at the door, Andrew opened it and ushered Luna inside.
“After you m’lady” He spoke in an over exaggerated accent.
“Andrew, before I go. I would like you to meet me here at midnight tomorrow night. I have important business to discuss with you privately.” Luna spoke in an orderly voice.
“Sure thing your highness. I’m sorry, Luna” Andrew quickly changed his mistake as Luna raised a hoof, a small smirk on her face.
“Fare thee well Andrew” Luna whispered and gave him a brief hug.
Andrew was take aback by her movement and gasped a little bit, but took it all in stride.
“You know Luna, I don’t mind that one old Equestrian phrase. I kinda like it actually” He said, setting off to the barracks, leaving Luna with a big smile on her face.
It was midnight and Andrew anxiously waited outside Princess Luna’s chambers. He hadn’t had time to change out of his armor before showing up so he looked a tad more intimidating than he should’ve considering the circumstances.
The door opened and Luna revealed herself, her mane no longer sparkling and ethereal. It hung to her upper foreleg in semi-straight cyan strands and her tail of the same color hung to her back knees. Andrew couldn’t help but admire her natural beauty.
“Andrew, you’re staring.” Luna giggled.
“Sorry Luna. May I enter?” Andrew asked.
“Certainly. Here,” She said. With a flash of magic, his armor was off and he was left wearing the BDU he had come to Equestria in. Being in the Army Corp of Engineers had given a lot to Andrew in the past but all that meant jack-shit here as ponies didn’t even have cars.
“Odd choice of outfit Corporal.” Luna looked him over.
“Well this is what the Army back on Earth wears. Not much.” Andrew said.
“I’ve never really seen you in this before. Would you indulge me on what these little patches mean?” Luna asked.
“Why the hell not?” Andrew shrugged.
“Well that patch has your name on it and that one says ‘US ARMY’. What’s that one right there?” Luna asked, pointing to the insignia on his chest.
“That’s my rank insignia. I was a Sergeant in the Army.” Andrew said.
Luna gasped.
“Why dare tell did you not inform me? I will have you promoted at once!” Luna said.
“Who am I to say no to that?” Andrew smiled.
“Well it requires longer hours and more time with yours truly.” Luna said, smiling.
“I wouldn’t mind. I love spending time with you anyways.” Andrew waved a hand as Luna blushed.
“Why thank you my dear friend.” Luna smiled again.
“So what was it you wanted to talk about?’ Andrew asked the alicorn.
“Andrew, please note that I am speaking to you as a friend and not as the princess.” Luna said, her eyes falling to the floor.
“Yea?” Andrew looked at her quizzically.
Luna sat down on her enormous four poster bed and patted the spot next to her.
Andrew sat down and looked at her. Finally, after five minutes, she looked up at him and spoke.
“Andrew, we have known each other for 3 months now, yet every hour I spend without you makes my heart ache.” Luna spoke, her voice heavy with emotion.
Andrew looked at her, his eyes wide in shock.
“I feel that you are one of the few beings in this world that understands me. I want to be close to you Andrew, I want you to be with me.” Luna continued, looking into Andrews sparkling sky-blue eyes.
“Luna, I...What would Celestia think?” Andrew asked, his mind still unsure of what was happening.
“She already knows Andrew. She thinks that you are perfect for me. The way you sit and admire my nights from your post, the way you treat me with such kindness and respect, it just seems so right to us. I know it may be taboo in your world but you need to grow out of that shell.” Luna’s eyes were about to spill over with tears.
“Luna, I don’t..” Andrew looked blankly at the beautiful alicorn in front of him.
“It’s ok. I understand. You can leave now.” Luna sobbed, tears now rolling down her dark blue cheeks.
“Luna, my dearest Luna...” Andrew said, lifting her head with his hand.
“I have thought the same way about you, I need you in my life. I want to spend tonight with you under the stars that you created.” Andrew smiled as he wrapped his arms around her torso.
Luna smiled, yet her tears kept coming. They had changed from tears of sorrow to tears of joy in the blink of an eye.
Luna looked up into Andrews eyes, her cyan pools made her beauty beyond comparable to him. Then, the moment overcame them both as they leaned in close. Andrews lips gently brushed against Luna’s, sending shivers down her spine. As he moved away, a part of her begged to have his lips meet hers again, but she knew it was for the better.
“So princess, would you like to go out on the balcony and lay down to watch the stars with me?” Andrew asked her
“Who am I to resist such an incredible offer?” Luna giggled as she opened to the balcony whilst Andrew took the quilt off the bed and laid it out on the wide stone outcropping.
As the Andrew laid with Luna, little did they know a warm gaze was being cast upon them. Celestia looked down at the new couple and smiled, grateful that her dear sister had finally found a companion. She turned away from the window and peeled herself a banana as a reward for a job well done on her part.
Ever since that night, Andrew had been promoted to Sergeant and spent many a night with Luna. They would just lie on the balcony and stare at the sky. Andrew marveling it’s beauty as Luna swirled the stars to her heart’s desire.
One evening as Andrew was getting his armor on and preparing to begin his patrol when his commanding officer came in.
“Sir!” Andrew snapped to attention and gave a salute.
“Cut it out Sergeant Andrew. You’re a royal escort. You may not be nearly the same rank as I but I trust you more than some of my officers.” Shining Armor chuckled.
Andrew dropped his salute into a handshake, which Shining quickly obliged.
“Oh, by the way, Princess Luna would like you to skip your patrol and be her post in her office. Something about diplomacy.” Shining shrugged.
“You got it sir.” Andrew said.
“Enjoy your shift Andrew.” He said, hanging his armor up.
“Thanks Shiney!” Andrew shouted as he left.
“Hey! Where did you hear that nickname?” Shining asked after him.
“Next time you have some ‘quality time’ with your wife, make sure that the walls are soundproof and the door is locked!” Andrew shouted over his shoulder.
Shining opened his mouth but said nothing.
“Who dares disturb me?” Princess Luna shouted at the door as she heard the loud knocking.
“It’s me Moon Butt, calm down.” Andrew said opening the door.
“Oh you know how I detest that name.” Luna giggled.
“So I’m your personal escort now huh? It seems you can’t live without me can’t you” Andrew smirked.
Luna blushed a deep crimson.
“What mare could resist you my dear Andrew?” Luna purred, giving Andrew a quick peck on the lips.
“Princess Luna would you like me to....” Another voice separate from Andrew and Luna’s trailed off as she saw the two.
Andrew looked in horror at the purple alicorn before him.
Luna pulled away from his face with a small “eep”.
Twilight smirked.
“So this is why you requested him instead of-” Her statement was cut off by the door swinging open.
“Auntie? Where are we going this time and-EGAD what is that hideous creature standing in such close proximity to you?” the white unicorn said in a nosey and high pitched voice.
Luna’s eyes flashed red for a moment.
“You dare call my personal escort hideous?!” Luna yelled in her royal Canterlot voice.
“Well, I describe things as they are auntie.” Blueblood growled.
“This is exactly the reason that you will be stripped of your diplomatic duties! After that incident in Griffonia? You are done here, excuse yourself or I will have Andrew here escort you forcibly.” Luna boomed once more.
“Why are you so mean Auntie!” Blueblood cried as he trotted out the door.
“What the fuck did he do in Griffonia?” Andrew asked the two alicorns.
“He threw a tantrum in front of the emperor during a feast” Luna sighed.
“Jeez really?” Andrew sucked a breath in through his teeth.
“Unfortunately. Good for us however as you will be taking his spot.” Twilight said, looking at Luna sideways.
“So this is why I’m your personal escort now?” Andrew smiled.
“So Luna, can you let me in on any details about you and Andrew’s relationship?” Twilight asked smugly.
Luna giggled.
“Maybe on tomorrow’s train ride to Zebrica.” She smiled.
“Well, I’ll see you two then. Goodnight.” Twilight bid farewell and left the office.
“So Andrew my dear, what would you say to a night in the sheets with me? Simply to enjoy each other’s company.” Luna smiled coyly.
“Allow me to pack my three BDU’s and some PJ’s for the journey first and I will be right up Princess.” Andrew bowed and ran back to his quarters. He picked up a suitcase and put his three BDU’s in it. The BDU’s were exactly replicated by a master seamstress in Canterlot. She had said she detested the design but would do it if it was for the princess’. The one Andrew was wearing was his favorite. It was the one that made the journey with him.
Carrying his suitcase up the many flights of stairs, Andrew made his way to Luna’s chambers. He knocked three times and heard nothing. This was considered strange, Luna almost always answered the door. Andrew knew something was up. He found the door unlocked, another bad sign.
“Luna?” He called out.
A muffled scream was heard from the bathroom. Andrew burst through the door and found....
Luna, sitting in the bathtub, with little toy ships and a Tirek action figure.
Luna had jumped as he burst through the door and as soon as Andrew saw what was happening, put a palm to his forehead.
“What is the meaning of you interrupting my bath time?!” Luna used the royal canterlot voice jokingly.
“I heard a scream, you never answered the door, and it was also unlocked.” Andrew listed.
Luna frowned.
“Blast! I knew I forgot to do something!” She cursed herself.
“Does it matter now? As I have saved the princess from an unseen threat!” Andrew said in a fake boldness.
Luna did a fake swoon.
“Thank stars my heroic prince is here to save me from the dreaded bath time!” Luna held her giggled back until the end of the sentence.
“Need a towel your majesty?” Andrew asked the alicorn, her cyan mane hung dripping wet from her bath.
“Of course my prince.” Luna smirked.
Andrew grabbed a towel from the rack as Luna stepped out of the tub, pulling the plug as she did so.
Andrew dried her off gently, being extra careful to dry off her sopping wet mane and torso.
As his hands danced from behind the towel, Luna gave happy sighs as the human essentially massaged her. When he was finished, Luna wrapped her hooves around Andrew’s neck and he cradled her as he carried his precious cargo to the bed.
When they got there Andrew pulled the covers apart and laid the alicorn down. She looked at him with a sultry gaze.
“Could you fetch me my socks Andy? It’s rather cold tonight.” Luna purred.
“Of course.” Andrew smiled as he fetched the rather sexy garments.
She slid them onto her legs and motioned Andrew to get under the covers with her. Andrew shook his head.
“What’s wrong?” Luna asked, a look of worry on her face.
“Just let me grab some pajamas.” Andrew said, unzipping his suitcase and pulling out a pair of long flannel pants and a grey shirt that read ARMY in plain black letters across the front.
“Please, leave the shirt off my dear. I have always been rather curious as to what a human looks like without their top layer of clothing on” Luna gave a smug grin.
“Why the fuck not?” Andrew shrugged, tossing the shirt back in the suitcase, taking the BDU off, slipping his flannel pants on.
Andrew was chiseled from military work back on Earth and the Equestrian diet didn’t exactly fatten him up. His abs were like forged steel. Luna looked him over with half lidded eyes.
“Do all humans look that gorgeous?” Luna twirled her still damp mane with a free hoof.
“Only me I’m afraid.” Andrew gave a fake shrug.
“Come here and let me get a good feel for it.” Luna beckoned him over,
As he entered the bed, Luna began running her hoof along his torso.
“You know Luna, I think Twilight is going to be a tad uncomfortable on the train tio Zebrica tomorrow.” Andrew said as they both collapsed in fits of laughter.

“What is is Twilight?” Andrew stared at the purple alicorn.
“Zebrican culture is so hard to understand!” She groaned.
Luna lifted her head from its place on Andrew’s lap. She had dozed off for a little bit, the train ride was 27 hours after all.
“Perhaps I could help?” Andrew offered.
“Pfft. What could you possibly know about Zebrican culture?” Twilight scoffed.
“We had a place like it back on Earth. What is it you need help with?” Andrew asked, memories of his travels in Kenya, the Congo, and Tanzania.
There’s this proverb here and I can’t find it’s real meaning.” She said, sliding the book over to him.
Andrew picked it up and read:
“He who shields himself from life’s troubles is but a shield for others doing the same”
“Poetic.” Luna muttered into Andrew’s thigh.
“I think I know what this means.” Andrew said after a minute of thought.
“Shoot.” Twilight said.
“I believe that this means that if you hide your problems, others will use you as an excuse for their own cowardice. Essentially, if you hide from your problems, people will use you to make it ok in their mind.” Andrew finished explaining and Twilight’s jaw dropped and Luna’s ears perked up.
“Now there’s another trait I like about you.” Luna purred, picking her head up and pecking him on the cheek.
“Well done. I get it now.” Twilight said, finally picking her jaw up off the floor.
“Well we had places like Zebrica back on Earth that I travelled to once.” Andrew explained.
“Ah. Also, what’s the deal with you and Princess Luna?” Twilight said very directly.
Luna’s head shot up, no longer drowsy.
“Well I guess you’re not one to beat around to bush are ya?” Andrew chuckled.
“No, so explain what’s going on.” Twilight was becoming impatient.
“Well you see dear,” Andrew mocked a fatherly voice, “when a mare and a stallion love each other very much-”
“Cut the crap!” Twilight snapped.
A death stare from Luna quickly curbed her attitude.
“Well, Luna and I have known each other for many months and we got together and confessed our feelings for each other. That’s about it.” Andrew explained.
“Princess, with all due respect, he’s a human! He’s not even our species!” Twilight said.
“Does it look like I care Twilight? What’s the matter, are you jealous?” Luna smirked.

Luna had caught her. Twilight couldn't hide her examination of Andrew very well at all.

Twilight was lost for words at this. She opened her mouth, then closed it and went back to reading.

Luna stirred, opening her eyes slightly and feeling the naked warm mass that was Andrew’s body beneath her. She was, for lack of finding the exact words to describe her feelings, extremely content. Luna hummed and nuzzled into the neck of the softly snoring human. She nipped him and he jumped a little, but when he opened his eyes and saw the alicorn on top of him, he gave a warm smile.
“Good morning my dear princess.” He whispered.
“Good morning my sweet prince.” She responded, lowering her muzzle to his face and kissing him deeply.
“How do you feel?” Andrew asked with a smile.
“Like a need another shower. We reek of sex.” Luna mumbled.
“If we weren’t going to be ambassadors, then it would be fine right?” Andrew asked.
“If that were indeed the case then I would lie here with you all day, wrapped in your strong embrace.” She cooed, the thought making her seem like a little filly with a crush.
“I wouldn’t object my dear, after all, I love the way your fur feels when I run my hands along your fur.” Andrew said, doing the exact thing he was talking about until he reached her plump rear.
She internally begged for him to do it as they stared at each other silently with half-lidded eyes.
When he did cup her firm rear in his hands she gasped and let out a soft coo of fulfillment.
A knock at the door interrupted their moment.
Luna whined in disapproval as Andrew put on some boxers and gym shorts he had by the bed and went to the door.
He opened it to see a familiar purple alicorn standing in front of him, her mane was a mess and her crown was askew on her head.
“Uh, hey there Twilight. What’s up?” Andrew asked, scratching the back of his neck sheepishly.
“You should probably get ready now. I think our contact is expecting us soon.” Twilight said in a half groan, half sigh.
“What’s the matter? Come on, I’m here for your protection too you know?” Andrew asked her.
She just sighed and made her way next door to her own room.
“She’s not a morning person is she?” Andrew jerked a thumb back at the now closed door.
“Never has been. Stays up too late reading.” Luna shrugged.
Suddenly, a flash of golden light materialized a scroll in front of Luna and Andrew.
Luna looked at it sideways, picking it up in her own magic and examining the seal on the parchment.
“It’s from Celestia.” Luna said.
“Ya think? Seriously Princess Obvious, who else would it be?” Andrew jested.
Luna shot him a fake glare, acknowledging that she had made a rather obvious statement.
Luna opened it and began to read.
Dearest Luna,
I hope you and Andrew enjoyed your first night in Zebrica.
However, I’d like to address you both when I say that Twilight is still rather skeptical of Andrew, as she is not really a fan of his species. Poor Taylor had to endure a week of shenanigans and being stalked before I finally convinced her to leave him alone.
Nonetheless, just try and make her feel comfortable being around Andrew.

Luna’s face turned beet red as she read the last line. Andrew, meanwhile, facepalmed.
“Soundproofing spell next time. Do not forget about that.” Andrew said to the alicorn.
“Gah! I was caught up!” Luna argued.
“So was I! We just need to both remember so we don’t cause Twilight distress.” Andrew said.
“Now on the matter of her feeling ‘uncomfortable’ around me” Andrew remarked, making air quotes as he did so.
“Yes?” Luna motioned him to continue.
“She was fucking masturbating to me in the bathroom on the damn train!” He said.
“Yes, I remember,” a coy grin came to her face, “Twilight also had some very interesting things she wanted to ‘try out with you’” Luna said, making air quotes with her hooves.
“So what should I do?” Andrew asked, trying to figure out where this is going.
“I am ordering you to stay by her side for twenty four hours from now. You will have to have your Equestrian Ambassador pin on and you must do whatever she asks you to. I mean, anything.” Luna smirked as she spoke the last part.
“Luna, are you sure about this, what with our relationship and all?” Andrew scratched his head.
“Positive. If it means helping Twilight relieve some stress and loosening up to humans, then it’s fine. After all, it’s only twenty four hours.” Luna said with a shrug.
“Ok. Just remember one thing Luna,” Andrew said.
“Oh? And what would that be?” Luna asked, standing up on her hind legs, her still bare hooves coming in contact with the firm muscles of his torso.
“That I love you with all my heart LuLu.” Andrew said, bringing his head in for yet another kiss.
“Oh you know I loathe that nickname” She managed to say before she met his lips once more.
Andrew and Luna had showered and gotten dressed for their meeting with Zebrican ambassador.
Andrew was dressed in his BDU, name and rank on full display. The US ARMY patch had been replaced with an identical one that read EQUESTRIAN GUARD. The patches on his shoulders had also been replaced with the logo of the night guard, an inverted crescent moon with a sword and spear crossing below it. There was also a small patch underneath the seal read simply, Royal Escort.
Luna and Andrew waited anxiously outside Twilight’s room, waiting for her to get ready. Luna was in her usual regalia. Mane once again sparkling and waving in an invisible breeze, slippers on her hooves and chestplate and tiara firmly in place.
“Christ, what is taking her so long?” Andrew was growing impatient.
The door opened and Luna face hoofed. Twilight had her crown, make-up, slippers, and a dress on her.
“Twilight, take that garbage off now. Except for the crown, you went total overkill.” Luna sighed.
Twilight made a noise halfway between a grunt and a moan of disapproval as she re entered her room.
Coming out five minutes later, she was her normal self.
“Twilight, Andrew here will be staying with you for twenty four hours starting now.” Luna told the mare as they group walked towards the elevator.
“What? Why?” Twilight was shocked.
“Because it’s your first time here along with Andrews and I think having him by your side would make you feel a little bit safer when we’re out and about.” Luna stated.
Twilight sighed once again.
“Very well Luna.”
“Fantastic! ANdrew now has to comply with any order you give him for twenty four hours.” Luna said in a nonchalant way.
“He does?” Twilight asked.
“Yes of course. I told him to do so and he is also obligated to follow that rule since we are on diplomatic travels” Luna made her point clear as Twilight relented.
As they descended to the lobby, Twilight eased a little bit closer to Andrew, almost as if she was testing how close she could get to Andrew. Luna noticed and let out a small giggle.
As the doors opened, they three diplomats were greeted with loud drum music and cheering.
“LUNA! MY DEAR FRIEND!” A loud voice with a heavy Zebrican accent made its way over the din.
Andrew stepped in front of Luna automatically. A zebra with a large mohawk and green eyes stepped forward. He wore traditional Zebrican clothing and had a large grin on his face.
“Andrew dear, it’s alright.” Luna said, brushing him aside a little bit.
Luna embraced the zebra in a hug and gestured towards Andrew and Twilight.
“Zulu, this is Princess Twilight Sparkle and our personal guard and escort, Andrew.” Luna introduced them both.
“I am Zulu, the foreign ambassador to this great and fertile land! Pleasure to meet you Princess Twilight and Andrew, erm...” Zulu put a hoof to his chin.
“He is a human. One of only two in all of existence here!” Luna gloated.
“So he’s your pet then?” Zulu asked.
Luna’s eyes sharpened.
“Absolutely not Zulu! He is one of my very close friends and my personal protector. Well not for now at least.” Luna trailed off at the end.
“Whatever do you mean?” Zulu asked, his eyebrows going up.
“It means that I am with Twilight for the first day as this is her first time in Zebrica.” Andrew said over the din.
Zulu looked shocked that Andrew could talk, but quickly collected himself.
“Well that might be an issue.” Zulu said, looking skyward to regain his train of thought.
“Ah yes! We have arranged for Princess Twilight to go on a 3 day adventure in the wilds of our beautiful land.” Zulu exclaimed with excitement.
“WHAT?!” Both Twilight and Andrew looked at the zebra with wide eyes and Luna looked smug.
“You knew about this didn’t you?” Andrew looked over at Luna with an exasperated look on his face.
“I might have.” She giggled.
Twilight just sighed and tapped Andrew on the upper arm.
“Yeah Twi?” Andrew said, leaning down to listen to the mare.
“Listen, Luna told me what she had in mind before this whole thing went down. I just didn’t expect this. I’m assuming we’re going to have to sleep together to conform with the culture or even for safety, so just make me one promise?” Twilight asked.
“Shoot.” Andrew said.
“Don’t do anything without me saying so.” Twilight winked and gave Andrew a coy grin.
Andrew was stunned.
“The perk of being an alicorn is that we can communicate without speaking.” She said, the grin still on her face.
“So I’m assuming she told you that you have her consent?” Andrew said, now it was his turn for an exasperated sigh.
“Yep. Also, I’m going to reword what I said a second ago. You will be sleeping in bed with me for my ‘protection’” She made air quotes.
Andrew felt helpless, and he was. After all, he had to take orders from Twilight as if she were Luna.
Yet, he might just enjoy his three day adventure after all.
He and Twilight were led out by Zulu to a local train to a nearby village where they would start their little safari.
“So Twilight? Why did you not trust my buddy Taylor so much?” Andrew started his chat with Twilight off with a rather loaded question.
Twilight thought long as they approached the platform and boarded the train.
As she sat down, she answered.
“To be honest, it was fear at first. I had no clue what Taylor was and I didn’t know what he was capable of. So I aired on the side of caution and spied on him. Turns out he wasn’t so bad after all. HE pretty much forgave me after I-well never mind.” Twilight said, blushing slightly at the end.
“Ah. I get it. I would do the same thing if I was in your shoes.” Andrew replied honestly.
“So I’ve been meaning to ask. What’s the deal with you and Luna anyway?” Twilight asked.
“Could you clarify a bit?” Andrew cocked an eyebrow.
“I mean, are you two bucking?” Twilight asked bluntly, putting a hoof to her head.
Andrew had no way around this one.
“Yeah. Once.” Andrew stared at the ground, his cheeks red.
“Must be pretty good at it considering what I heard from next door.” Twilight smirked.
Andrew just groaned and rolled his eyes as Twilight left her seat and hopped into his lap.
“Uh, what are you doing?” Andrew asked the purple alicorn.
“Trying to see what all the hype is about. Luna said that this was an amazing spot to sit. Warm and cushy like a heated mattress she said I think.” Twilight shifted and squirmed.
Andrew coughed, trying to show his discomfort.
“Ah! There it is!” Twilight said, settling down finally.
Andrew relaxed and laid his head back.
Twilight nudged his crossed arms and he looked down.
“Yes?” Andrew sighed.
“Could you please put your arm at my side and curl the other around my front?” Twilight asked.
Remembering the agreement he had with Luna, Andrew did as he was asked. Twilight now nuzzling her head into his elbow as he pulled her closer to his torso.
Twilight sighed and closed her eyes. Andrew did the same as they both took a tiny power nap before reaching their destination.
Waking up to a zebra in traditional tribal garb poking him in the head, Andrew jumped up, forgetting about Twilight wrapped up in his lap. She hit the floor with a dull thud and Andrew had taken a defensive stance in front of her.
“Princess! We’ll save you!” A few more zebra’s chimed in as they boarded the train with spears.
“You stupid fools!” Another heavily accented voice yelled from outside.
Andrew had five spear points at his heart when a Zebra wearing a gold badge like his own entered the train car.
“Goddess damn you all! Weapons down idiots!” He yelled once more.
Andrew exhaled with relief.
“Sergeant Andrew, Princess Twilight, my deepest apologies for my men’s behavior.” The zebra shook his hand with a hoof and bowed to Twilight, who was picking herself off the floor.
“And your name?” Andrew asked.
“Call me Zion.” He said.
“Well Zion, I think I would like to see the true beauty of this country if you don’t mind?” Andrew asked.
“It would be my pleasure.” Zion answered as he lead the two down the platform and to the edge of a small village.
“This is where you will be staying for the next two nights.” Zion ushered to a small platform tent in a nearby clearing. The tent in question was in a circle with several others around a fire pit. Behind it stood two thatched huts.
“What’s with the other tents?” Twilight asked.
“Tourists.” Zion said bluntly, “The buildings in the back are restrooms and showers. Oh, and in case you worry, any animal stays well away from the camp and village due to the magic field around it. ”
“Man, what I could’ve done with magic back home..” Andrew reminisced out loud.
“Your tent already has your things in it for the next few nights. The sun is setting soon so I recommend stopping by my house for dinner and you should get to bed. It must’ve been a long journey for you.” Zion informed them.
They nodded and followed Zion to the quaint little house in the town’s center. Zion was a good cook, Andrew was surprised that he did not have a mare to share his talent with.
“Alas, love has been nothing but cruel and unjust with me. Mares seek only to break my poor heart by making promises they don’t keep.” Zion hung his head.
“Know the feeling buddy. Listen, you’ll find the girl-ahem-mare of your dreams someday. She’s out there probably thinking the same thing. Don’t be shy and linger in the past or obsess over the future, just focus on the present.” Andrew said.
Zion looked up, a faint smile curling the corners of his mouth.
“Wow. You certainly know your wisdom my friend! Many thanks! Now I believe it is time for you to go and rest for your busy day tomorrow!” Zion said as he ushered them out the door.
Twilight had made herself comfortable in the bed (to Andrew’s dismay, there was only one) and ushered Andrew to join her. The heat of the day did not let up much as the sun set and Andrew was beginning to feel the sweat bead on his body. He also got a whiff of his own BO.
“Twi, I’m gonna go take a shower alright?” Andrew asked her.
“Sure but be back quickly.” She purred.
Andrew gulped. He knew this might not end well for him.
As he washed off his body, he felt as if someone was watching him again. Andrew shook off the thought as Luna was not here and Twilight was in the tent. He needed to stop being so paranoid.
As he dried himself off, he thought he heard a faint pop come from the door. He shrugged this off and continued to dry and dress himself. The bugs weren’t too bad so Andrew decided to leave his shirt off due to the heat. As he walked back to the tent he saw the lamp inside go out and noticed the flaps closing of their own accord.
He knew it was Twilight as he opened the recently closed flap.
Andrew put his used clothes in his bag and got into the bed. He felt Twilight’s soft fur ease itself up on his body.
“Hey Andrew. Remember what Luna said?” Twilight’s soft voice purring in his ear.
“Yes.” Andrew closed his eyes.
“Rut me.” Twilight said.
“No.” Andrew said, turning around to face the purple alicorn.
“What? Why?” Twilight asked.
“No matter what Luna said, I can’t do it. I love Luna too much to give myself to another mare.” Andrew stated his feelings openly.
“Fine. Go ahead and deny me. I’m going to tell Luna that you violated your promise.” Twilight threatened.
“Fine. Go right ahead and tell her. See if I care.” Andrew turned over and quickly fell asleep.
His dreams flashed him back to his time at Camp Fogarty back in Rhode Island. He had trained and worked there with the National Guard boys on electronic equipment in the vehicles. He was walking towards a Humvee when a familiar figure emerged.
“Congratulations Andrew. You passed the test.” Luna’s voice came from the open door of the vehicle.
Andrew looked at Luna, totally forgetting that she could travel into dreams.
“What do you mean?” Andrew asked.
“Simple. I put Twilight up to that. You rejected her for me. You really do love me!” Luna ran over and gave Andrew a bone crushing hug.
“Luna....need...breathe” Andrew wheezed.
“Sorry!” She said, releasing him.
“It’s ok. Just warn me next time.” Andrew said.
“Oh! You reminded me! I will be down there with you and Twilight tomorrow.” Luna said with an excited squee.
“Great! Then I won’t have to sleep with Twilight.” Andrew sighed with relief.
“Oh come on! She’s attractive isn’t she?” Luna raised an eyebrow.
“Nothing compared to you” Andrew scoffed.
“You really are sweet. Morning approaches my dear. I shall count the seconds until I see you again!” Luna said as she faded out of the dream and Andrew opened his eyes.
Violence has No Place Here
Andrew awoke to a repeated pressure on his pecs. He cracked an eye open to see his perfect blue alicorn smiling ear-to-ear at him.
“Morning stud.” Luna said with a final poke.
“You were just looking for an excuse to touch my chest weren’t you?” Andrew jested.
“Maybe I was?” Luna blushed, her intentions having been revealed.
“What’s the plan for today?” Andrew asked.
“Unfortunately we must return to Canterlot.” Luna grimaced at the words.
“Why?” Andrew asked, genuinely confused.
“There has been a terrorist attack at the castle.” Luna said, a tear dripping down her face from her tightly shut eye.
Andrew saw this and was up and by her side in an instant.
“What happened?” Andrew asked.
“This is all my fault!” Luna wailed.
“What makes you think that?” Andrew asked without thinking.
“Whoever it was had placed the bomb in my court. Three guards are dead now because of me” Luna sobbed.
“And how exactly is that your fault?” Andrew asked.
“I probably said something to provoke it correct?” Luna looked into Andrews eyes.
“If your world is anything like mine, which it is in some ways, then there are extremist ponies who will take anything you say and twist it to what they want it to mean. When others believe their lies, it creates cults and organizations like the one that bombed the castle.” Andrew explained.
Luna looked up in surprise. Carefully thinking over his words in her head.
“It makes sense, but I still can’t help but feel guilty for the guards.” Luna was overcome yet again.
“They were only doing their job. If you make me the head of your personal detail, I will make sure that the guards are laid to rest with the highest honor.” Andrew took her hoof in his hand and brought her chin up with the other.
“This is a bad time to ask for a promotion” A weak smile made its way across her muzzle.
“Will you let me do so?” Andrew asked.
“It is done. I’ll have you made a Major. Is it the same in your world?” Luna asked through her tears.
“Yes. It is. Thank you Luna. You won’t regret this decision.” Andrew said, beginning to get up.
“No, please. Stay, we can go to another tent if you like?” Luna pleaded.
Never in a million years would Andrew say no. He moved himself and his gear to an adjacent tent. Luna laid down on the bed and Andrew took his place beside her. Luna began to cry, letting her sorrow and guilt drain away. Andrew just lay there with her, her head nestled in his shoulder, his arms wrapped tightly around her middle and shoulders. Andrew occasionally ran a hand through her ethereal mane, it was something that had calmed her down in times past. It seemed to do the trick as her sobs became softer and softer and her chest rose and fell in a slow steady rhythm.
“Andrew?” Luna looked up at him.
“Yes Luna?” Andrew gazed into her beautiful cerulean pools.
“Never, ever leave me. Please promise me that?” She said, tears still dripping from her eyes.
“Cross my heart and hope to fly, stick a cupcake in my eye.” Andrew smiled down at her.
“I would never leave you for anyone or anypony. That is a promise. I will be with you as long as you want me to.” Andrew said, his voice deep and calming to Luna’s ears.
“I love you Andrew” She buried her head back into his shoulder.
“And I you, my sweet lunar princess” He whispered as he gave her a loving scratch behind her ear.
The ride back to Canterlot was a silent one, with Luna snug in Andrew’s embrace and Twilight snoozing on a nearby sofa. Luna had sent his uniform to a local tailor to have it fixed and have several Major BDU patches made for him and a small jewelry store would make his Major lapel pins for his uniform as well as his Night Guard and Lunar Guard medals. They would be ready by the next day, when Andrew planned to lay the three guards to rest after they gave their lives for their country. Andrew had been to at least seven funerals. One was his best friend from Afghanistan, killed by an IED. The other were fellow Engineers who were killed in ambushes in either Iraq or Afghanistan. In other words, he knew what to do for this occasion. It would be a somber occasion but it was for a better cause.
Meanwhile, a white unicorn brushed a small amount of blonde mane out of his face as he scanned the newspaper.
“I thought you said he was there!” He roared at the figure in the shadows.
“We did our job per your request! Pay up!” He demanded.
“No, you never fulfilled your end of the bargain. No dead human, no bits.” The unicorn said firmly.
“Very well. If we do get him with our next try, I expect double pay.” The shadowy stallion grunted.
“Deal. I’m willing to pay the price to be rid of that foul cheating scum. The fact that he is even in that castle is a disgrace to the entire country.” He scoffed as the shadowy stallion left the room, leaving the snotty unicorn alone with his thoughts.
The train ride back to Canterlot was a somber and quiet one, with Luna and Andrew nestled in each other’s embrace while Twilight sat in her own little corner curled up in a tight ball, snoring loudly. Luna tried to wiggle her head deeper into Andrew’s chest but found she could go no further. She sighed and Andrew looked down at her with a worried look on his face.
“What’s up?” Andrew asked the mare in his lap.
“It’s just been bugging me. Why the Night Court? Wait, the attack took place around midnight, the sacred hour of Night Court, that would mean that both you and myself would be there. Maybe it’s not me I have to worry about.” Luna looked quiten troubled by this,
“I suppose that could be the case. Humans aren’t exactly the most popular species on the planet and I’m certainly only one of two. I also happen to have authority over other ponies, so maybe racism is what we might be looking at here.” Andrew scratched his chin.
“I feared this day would come. Have no fear Andrew, Celestia and I will protect you.” Luna said firmly.
“I highly doubt I’ll need the help but I won’t refuse being with you more often.” Andrew rubbed his nose against hers, making her coo with happiness.
“I love you Andrew.” Luna whispered.
“I love you too Luna” Andrew pecked her on the lips.
“A-andrew? What? Oh Flash...” Twilight moaned between a snore.
Luna looked mortified as Andrew was giggling his ass off as to not wake the sleeping lavender slut from her very wonderful dream.
The somewhat cheerful mood of the day was shattered as soon as they arrived in Canterlot, Celestia was waiting for them on the platform, a somber expression upon her usually cheerful demeanor. To Andrew’s dismay, Blueblood stood beside her, looking as arrogant and pompous as ever.
“That you for coming so quickly sister. I apologize for the suddenness of the event, I hope the Zebricans were not offended?” Celestia asked.
“Fret not, they saw for themselves and understood. They told us to come back again when we want so we can resume our discussions.” Luna stated.
“Princess? Have you been informed of-” Andrew tried to ask but was cut short by Celestia.
“Yes Luna has informed me that you will be the new Major of the Night Guard, as well as heading the funeral for the three deceased guards.” Celestia stated, already knowing what he was going to say.
Blueblood’s eyes went wide as he went to stare up at Celestia.
“Aunty, do you mean to imply that that mongrel of a hairless ape will be leading a service for our service ponies?” Blueblood said incredulously.
“Yes, if you have an issue with such, you can roll it up and shove it where my sun don’t shine! Andrew here is an honorable man and has done similar things in the human world. His customs only differ from our own slightly so I feel he would be the person to do the job.” Celestia said, handing Blueblood’s ass to him.
He made a pouty face and stomped off in disgust.
As he made his way off, he saw the familiar stallion in the shadows.
“I no longer require your services. Take these bits and leave,” He said gruffly, tossing a bag of bits on the ground at the stallion’s hooves. He picked it up and walked away, not uttering a single sound.
“How childish.” Luna said with a hoof in her face.
“Beat me to it love” Andrew let the word slip as Luna and the now present Twilight gasped.
Celestia just gave a wry smile.
“I, um, I mean your majesty.” Andrew tried to correct himself.
“Oh come on now Andrew. It’s no secret, I’ve known since I saw you share your first little moment on that balcony.” Celestia continued to smirk.
Luna and Andrew both blushed a deep crimson and Twilight giggled. She let out a quick yelp after Andrew stealthily reached around Luna and pinched her flank. She glowered at him but knew she kinda had it coming after she tried to seduce him, and by the goddess, she was more into it than Luna had told her to be.
The day of the funeral had arrived. Andrew was dressed up in his refurbished Army dress uniform complete with beret and new gold Major lapel pins. Luna was dressed in her black mourning dress as she stayed close to Andrew’s side as they descended the stairs to the throne room, where the three guards would be put to rest.
“Thank you for this Andrew. You have no idea what it means to me.” Luna whispered as she nuzzled his arm.
“I want ponies to respect and like humans too. I mean, look at Blueblood, typical racist if you ask me.” Andrew sighed in disappointment.
As Andrew entered, the guards stood at attention.
“Presenting her Highness Princess Luna and Major Andrew Carcillo, Commander of the Night Guard!”
The massive crowd of mourners rose for them as they passed by. Andrew sat Luna down in her seat and moved to the podium.
“Please be seated” Andrew said once he had reached his destination.
“I arrived here quite some time ago. How and why I have not an answer in the slightest, all I know is that every pony in this place is here for the same reason I am. To honor and remember the three guards we lost in the terrorist attack 2 weeks ago. After learning their identities, I was grieved to find out that my previous commanding officer, Sgt. Darkbolt was among the dead. I admit, I was always intimidated by him yet I always had a soft spot for him as he did me. The other two I cannot remember as I never worked with them before, however, after speaking with several other guards I can now say that they were heros. Before we lay these ponies to rest, let us salute them one final time. NIGHT GUARD!” Andrew finished his eulogy and the Night Guard snapped to attention, their hooves coming to their helms as the 3 caskets faded into sparkling golden light and drifted upwards.
As Andrew made his way back to Luna to escort her out, Blueblood approached him.
“What do you wa-” Andrew was stopped mid sentence by a small dagger entering his chest.
“Sic Semper Tyrannis.” Blueblood whispered in Andrew’s ear as he withdrew the blade and Andrew crumpled to the floor.
A loud scream from Luna was the last thing Andrew heard before he faded to blackness.
The room was dead quiet as Andrew slumped to the floor, a pool of blood making itself quite clear around his feet. In the craze, Celestia, Luna, Twilight, and Cadence leaped up at the same time. Now, alicorn magic works in mysterious ways and Blueblood had seen enough of Twilight’s notes to know where the fatal wound had to be inflicted. When the alicorns leaped up, the knocked heads and their horns all came into contact. With a bright flash, Andrew was hit by a bolt of magic from their horns that sent him flying. If he were even aware of anything, he would become aware of a growing pain in his back that would only become worse as time progressed.
Not aware of the bolt they had sent upon Andrew, the alicorns leaped up and surrounded Blueblood. The knife released from his magic and it clattered to the ground, the sound of metal on marble echoing throughout the entire vast room.
“I did what was necessary for the good of Equestria.” Were his last words as Luna’s horn entered his cold, black heart. Blueblood fell to the ground, his arrogant smirk going with him to his grave as his eyes glazed over with the fact of death.
Luna withdrew her now bloody horn from the noble’s chest. The crowd, still present screamed and made for the exit. Luna rushed over to Andrews side, tears in her eyes.
“Andrew! Speak to me my love!” She cried in agony.
A guard pony with a doctor rushed over to Andrew’s crumpled form. The doctor put a hoof to Andrews neck, desperately searching for a pulse, but could find none.
He shook his head and shut Andrew’s glazed eyes with a hoof.
Luna let out a scream that was rumored to echo throughout the world. Her agony and grief were beyond imagining as she collapsed in tears atop Andrew’s limp form. The one thing she loved more than her own night skies had been taken from her and locked away forever.
“ANDREW!!!!” Luna wailed yet again, a single tear dropping onto his chest near his wound.
Unbenounced to Luna, Andrew’s wound began closing up, healing with magic. Luna’s final gift to her lover as it seemed, however, a stirring in the magical field around ANdrew brought her head up from her own grief. Celestia remembered the bolt of their magic hitting Andrew in the chest. Some parts of alicorn magic were still unknown to even the regal princess herself, yet she knew what was happening to Andrew.
“I thought it was but a legend.” She murmured under her breath.
Celestia, Luna, Twilight, and Cadence had now given him the greatest gift of all. The ability not to break his promise to Luna, ever.
Luna felt a bump in the human’s chest.
“Huh?” She sobbed.
The heart of the human began to beat once again as he returned to the land of the living.
“Hey there Luna. Remember how I made a promise never to leave you ever?” Andrew said in a raspy voice.
Luna wailed in a mixture of joy and love for her human as she wrapped her hooves around his neck. Twilight and Cadence looked astonished.
“But...How?” Cadence spoke up first.
“Andrew made a promise to Luna to never leave her. Our combined magic has allowed him to keep that promise forever. His aging stops now like ours did when we were gifted our powers.” Celestia informed the group.
“He is the embodiment of faith as he has never broken a promise and never will now.” Luna whispered the ancient prophecy.
“So the legends were true. An alien creature would descend from the heavens and become the one unable to break any promise. Showing love and compassion for all in his presence.” Twilight exhaled in disbelief as she too, repeated the prophecy to the group.
“Never ever leave me like that again Andrew Carcillo!” Luna cried, tears still pouring down her face as she sobbed into Andrew’s shoulder.
“I don’t think you’ll have to worry about that anymore.” Andrew smiled, embracing his princess and rubbing her back with his hands.
Twilight had stopped staring and run over to Andrew’s side, gripping his arm tightly, her own tears now being shed. Celestia and Cadence joined in as their own tears joined the rest. Celestia had always held that legend in the back of her mind when Andrew first arrived and showed his kind personality to the ponies of Canterlot. Did she ever think this would be the true embodiment of faith? No, admittedly, she did not, however, she could feel that Andrew was the one and only love for her dear sister and would never let her go for all the bits in the world.
Cadence on the other hand had found the love between Andrew and Luna so potent that she worried that it might bring a changeling back to life. Luna had found her own Shining Armor it seemed to her, a smile etched itself on to everyone’s faces as their horns glowed in happiness.
A few months after the disaster at the funeral, Andrew had made sure to stay extra close to Luna as she became quite clingy, which was understandable as she had almost lost him, but Andrew didn’t mind in the slightest. He loved the way her soft fur felt against his bare skin and the way her mane fell loosely around her neck at night. She was indeed perfect in every way in his eyes.
Luna on the other hand, well, to put it into simple words, thought he was drop dead gorgeous. She noticed the stares that the female guards gave him as well as Celestia herself had even been caught running her eyes down the human’s form while he jogged around the castle in the mornings. Luna had walked in on one particular morning to see Celestia slowly eating her banana as she watched the shirtless human pant and sweat below. As a matter of fact, Celestia threatened to send Luna back to the moon if she told him. Luna did like making the other mares jealous of her man. As a matter of fact, she had asked him to go into the barracks shirtless to see what the guard mares thought. She was rolling in hysterical laughter as one of the guard mares just casually walked over to him and ran her hoof down his chest and stomach. Andrew had blushed so hard, his face was now the color of a perfectly ripe tomato.
All fun aside, Andrew had business to attend to. He knocked on the door to Celestia’s chambers and waited anxiously. The door opened and the white alicorn ushered him inside. The room smelled of banana laffy taffy and had a quite large four poster bed against the far wall.
“How can I help you today my dear Andrew?” Celestia asked in her usual kind and calm voice, sipping at the cup of tea she had abandoned to open the door.
“Well, uh, you see. I’ve been thinking about me and Luna and we talked about having foals” Andrew said sheepishly.
Celestia spit her tea out all over Andrew’s face, covering him in the sweet brown liquid.
Celestia stammered her apologies as she cleaned Andrew up with a simple spell.
“So, you were saying about you and Luna having foals?” Celestia urged him on.
“Yeah. Since I’m human, we won’t be compatible. Is there any way to change that? Andrew asked.
“Does Luna know about this?” Celestia pointed to Andrew and then herself.
“Yes I told her I would see if you could do anything to help us, so to speak.” Andrew scratched the back of his head.
“That’s not really my area of expertise but I’ll see what Cadence has to say on the matter.” Celestia smiled warmly.
Andrew embraced Celestia.
“Thank you so much. How long do you think it will take Cadence to get here if you don’t mind me asking.” Andrew asked.
“By this afternoon I think. She is in nearby Ponyville visiting Twilight. I’ll have her here soon.” Celestia said.
“Do you think I’m good enough for Luna?” Andrew blurted out.
Celestia just gave a warm chuckle.
“Andrew my dear, you are the only one my Luna has loved with such passion. I saw the look you two gave each other when you stargazed that night. She has never been so happy in her entire life.” Celestia said, her magenta eyes sparkling with tears as she too remembered the happiness those two shared.
“Thank you Celestia.” Andrew sniffled, but did not let any tears fall.
“No. Thank you Andrew.” She embraced the human yet again.
“Do me a favor and just ask for her hoof in marriage will you? Grow a pair.” She smiled wryly and sent him on his way.
