Rush had brought his helmet and DJ equipment to the tree he had found on the outskirts of Ponyville. He was practicing for the upcoming competition that was 11 days away. He was also doing a lot of showing off.
Sunset Shimmer was watching him in awe as he danced to an EDM song he created. He spun around then moontrot back to where she was on his hindlegs.
"Whoa how do you do that!?" Sunny asked while tapping her hooves to the beat.
"Balance, skill , some practice. And this" he finished while flexing.
Then he jumped into a bucking position and walked around on his forelegs. Sunset Shimmer found herself staring at him, realizing he was slightly more muscular then the average stallion but still small and light.
'Wow, he looks pretty dreamy.' she said in her head.
"Stop showing off. I hope you know that you're already impressive enough."
"I wish I could get you to feel the same way though." Sunny mumbled to herself. 'I'll just have to turn up the charm a notch and make it impossible for him not to notice."
"Why would I stop showing off?" Rush did a hoofstand pushup and used his forelegs to jump back into a standing position with a grin on his face.
"You gave me a horn and I tooted it. Ha tooted. Besides you must of been enjoying yourself enough for that to happen."
He pointed at her horn. It was spraying sparks again. He smiled at her. When she noticed what was happening she licked her hoof and put it on her horn. Slowly he was beggining to put things together.
"Why does that happen to you anyway." he leaned in slowly while wearing a devious, cocky grin.
"Umm. Well. Magic problems. Happens sometimes."
"You mean every time I make you uncomfortable?" Sunset quietly gasped. Her face turned from one of from dark red embarrassment, to a fearful blue. He was catching on!
"Can I ask you something?" She reluctantly nodded.
"You always act so strange and defensive around me and I'm pretty sure your magic is fine so... I'm getting the idea that you aren't telling me something. Am I right?"
Sunset was trapped. She couldn't lie to him he would know. She couldnt even look at him in the eye for starters so...
"It's just I can't understand you or mares in general. But whatever it is you can tell me"
"I can't tell you Rush."
"Why not?" he questioned.
"You wouldn't understand okay."
"If you really don't want to tell me then I guess I can't force you but it's clearly important so..."
Rush knew that the only time a unicorn's horn sparked like that was when they had a serious sickness, or when they were pulling off a very difficult spell. Sometimes though when they were romantically into somepony. Wait what? The latter seemed like the only logical choice but she didn't feel that way about him did she? Either way this secret she was hiding was starting to bother him. Rush decided to drop the matter for the moment. Sunset Shimmer began pouting and stormed off, struck by her hormones and confusion. Rush wanted to say something to stop her but he knew that it wouldn't help either of them. He decided to trot off in the opposite direction. He began thinking and moving again.
"Uggh. Why won't she tell me what's wrong!" ...
