No edit, just needed to submit it in by today or tonight or whatever. All art belongs to their respected owners, I have no hand in drawing none of them, just using them as references.
Anyways, if anything else, I will say that I got a pm that somewhat gave me a second thought as to what to do with shippings and all that... currently its a one of between spike and other before his focus is back to dragons.
Again, any dragon mythology here is of my own making.
Also clearly stated in the chapter before, Equestria girls never exsists, I moved around it and changed the outlook. Yes characters from there might be included or mentioned.
FInally... THIS IS A SPIKE STORY!!!! If there is off screen talk and mentioned into the story, it dosent matter because this is focusing on SPike. Leave it be.

Reunions and History

Spike’s Life
Reunions and Histories

Spike was utterly amazed at his father now. Not only was he a kind and gentle drake, much like himself, but he had a history with Celestia that showed that they had no malice to one another. Though it did beg the question what had his father and Celestia did in the past?

However, those thoughts didn’t linger for long, for they slowly looked towards the beautiful mare that came down from his father’s back. She truly was stunning and it kind of reminded of how Celestia would like with a fiery mane… and was the size of a normal mare.

Red and yellow mane with tail grazed her body, just like fire. With the gentle wind that just blew, it almost looked like fire as well. Her light tan coat seemed to bring out more of her fiery mane and as well as her Cutie Mark, which was of a yellow and red sun. Thought it did remind him of the Yin-Yang symbol from his old comic books. Last was her beautiful sky blue eyes, which he got almost lost in, just like he had with his father.

If it weren’t for the fact that he had managed to get over his obsession over Rarity years ago, as well as her sister, he might have never managed to keep his eyes off her. However, that quick little look into her was all that it took for his father to see the sudden affection he had for his ‘daughter’.

“Sunset Shimmer, my faithful student. You have returned.” Celestia said with a pleasing smile.

Everyone gave a huge, “HUH?” at Celestia’s words. Even Twilight was a bit shocked at Celestia’s words. It was obvious that Celestia had students before her, that was something she had been told. However, she wasn’t aware that this mare, this one pony, who had just come from the dragon lands and was the adopted ‘daughter’ of said ‘Lord of the Dragon Empire’, was a student of Celestia.

Talonus used his wing to make a makeshift walkway for the mare to cautiously and slowly come down from him.

Her eyes manly focused on Celestia, watching her former mentor as she gazed back, not with an angered or sad expression, but one of general happiness and almost like she had finally had gotten back her long lost daughter.

Then her focus was that of the purple Alicorn next to her. To her, that was a moment of pure fear or sadness that overcame her, that the Alicorn here, was the newest edition to Equestria and that she had been replaced.

Many conflicting emotions passed through Sunset. Fear, Anger, pain, sadness, jealousy and greed over passed her, but in the end, only sadness had taken her the most.

“Y-you… you replaced me?” It came out almost like a whimper and tears formed from her eyes.

Instantly, Celestia teleported from her spot and appeared in front of Sunset Shimmer. She didn’t flinch, but her head inclined to the sudden figure over her. Expecting her to yell or say something far worse, she closed her eyes and let her head fall. She whimpered more and would have cried but suddenly, she was wrapped, almost tightly and she felt Celestia bring her head to her.

“Oh Sunset, my dear student. I could never replace you!” She wrapped her hoof around her, bringing her closer and Sunset hugged tightly. She finally broke down and let loose, as Celestia whispered to her. “You are the most, precious thing to me and you were… no you are like my daughter. I could never, ever replace you. You are special to me and never forget it. Never forget it, my little Shimmy.” Memories of when Sunset was a foal and she became her student came flooding back, back to when she was young and she called her ‘Shimmy’ the first time and the feeling of being Celestia’s daughter, did she cry out wholly and held her mother tighter.

“I missed you so much, mom!” Celestia let loose her own tears and she once more held her daughter for the first time.

The scene did cause an emotional wave for the others. The girls seemed all teary at the reunion, even Twilight, who was once shocked by Sunset’s arrival smiled a few tears at Celestia reuniting with a former student.

Spike had watched the scene but was at a different emotional level. His eyes went from Sunset to Talonus, who had watched the mare who is his ‘adopted’ daughter reunited with her former teacher and ‘mother’.

His eyes then went to Spike, who had yet to speak a word to him. He saw that his son was still confused and a little conflicted at the events in which have unfolded now.

“You have many questions, my son?”

Spike looked at his father’s gaze, managing a nod from him.

His father smiled and lowered his head to meet him. Spike almost stood back as his father’s head was a little bit bigger than him. His draconic, dark green eyes met his and this time he wasn’t pulled in like before. Was it something that he controlled or was it a magical vision that he had before?

“Your question’s will be answered soon son.” He said gently. It was odd hearing a dragon’s voice, who was so large, sound gentle. It was not overpowering or loud or even have a usual edge or roughness that most other dragons that Spike had encountered before. The wind from his father’s voice was as gentle as a warm, summer breeze. His form was giant but it also wasn’t as menacing as he was the moment he had arrived. “They’ll be answered…” He motioned his to Celestia and Sunset, still locked in embrace. “Once the pleasantries and… reunions are over.”

Celestia had managed to remove the entire wall of the gala hall, with Twilight’s help, to let in the giant drake. Practically, he filled it half way in and would have room to lay out completely flat with room to spare. Something Celestia’ casually mentioned as ‘Room for guests of all kinds’.

Spike still had his eyes set on the size of his father, towering over everypony. His early memories of how Celestia raised and the towering form she was compared to other ponies, he felt like an ant compared to her. But now in the case of his father, Spike was as tall as Celestia but even then he still felt small compared to him.

Spike also started to see the resemblance of his father and himself. Other than the shaper than his own spikes from chest and back, the overly large wings, the extend on his head fins, huge serpent like tail longer snout and huge quadruped form, Spike pretty much saw himself staring at a 50 hoof mirror. If also a bit menacing mirror…

Though it did beg the question as to why when he had been forced changed from baby to adult in a matter of seconds when Twilight forced it through her magical outburst when she was at Celestia’s school or his greed transformation, that when the other’s described it, he had the lack of wings, spikes or otherwise, and yet, his father carried that?

Was it different stages or different ways that dragons were raised that could… change their physical appearances? Greed? Magic? All of that brought many more questions with the few hundred others that filled his mind that were begging to be answered.

With the reunions over with and everypony already settled, Celestia had arranged a feast to be set up. Do to Talonus’s early arrival, he had to wait at least a while before his ‘special’ dinner be cooked. In which everypony would have time to eat and leave before that could happen.

However, thanks to Spike’s ‘Get well’ gifts from the Crystal Empire, he had brought up a chest’s worth of gems for his father to munch on while his food was being prepared. Much to the amusement of Spike and Celestia, his father’s eyes lit up like a foal on Hearts Warming Eve, and opened the chest before devouring them all. He let them fall all down like eating a packet full of rainbow sprinkles, onto his tongue before taking savory bites, swallowing them and giving a small moan.

“Oh gods above.” He said almost heavenly. “I have almost forgot what it was like to eat published and properly prepped gems. Having to find them and clean them before eating them was always a hassle.”

Spike gave a smile, seeing his father happy. His father quickly looked at his son.

“Forgive me son… I uh… did you wish for some?” His father already felt crest fallen and his chest crest had fallen…?

“Oh, uh no worries…” He couldn’t bring to say it. “I uh… Cadance and Shinning Armor had brought several carts worth of gems from the Crystal Empire.”

“Oh?” He turned his head, though his tongue licked his lips. “Why would they do that?”

“When I was ill… the Empire sent me ‘get well’ gifts after I got ill.” He paused. “I uh… save the Empire… Twice.” He was unsure of how his father would react to it.

“Ah yes. Celestia did send me letter of your rather… should we say dangerous but brave exploits over the years?”

Celestia who was busy eating her salad, looked up at the dragon, almost as if caught with her hoof in a cookie jar. Her eyes tried to read the dragon but he remained silent and with small grin on his mouth that she couldn’t interpret. Her eyes quickly darted to Twilight before back at him. Bad move.

“So, Princess Twilight Sparkle. You are my son’s care taker for his whole life?” Twilight’s ear twitched at the sound of his voice and judging by how it sounded, she seemed almost fearful as she gazed up at the dragon. With a mouth full of salad, she managed a nod.

“Mhmmm!”

Talonus gave a nod. “And tell me Princess Twilight. What have you taught my son for his whole life… besides getting into danger and shall we say… risky situations?”

Twilight swallowed her salad and almost chocked because she didn’t finish chewing, ending up coughing a fit. Thankfully, Spike saw how she was now looking fearful and quickly spoke up.

“Twilight didn’t get me into danger… most of the time.”

His father turned his head back to his son. His gaze meant more to him than it did to Twilight’s but Spike felt still relatively save from his father.

“I… I choose to save the Crystal Empire… even though Twilight could have done it. However, she was trapped and I was the only one who could do it. I also managed to burn a huge fall rock of ice from hurting anypony… I also choose to do that. She would not have known any of that would have happened and if she did,” he turned his head to her. “I am pretty sure she wouldn’t have allowed me to do it. She would… protect me from all the bad things.”

Twilight gave a smile and she felt proud of Spike. Talonus felt fine with the answer and settled back.

This caused for Sunset, who had yet to speak since her arrival, speak to Spike.

“So… Spike. You are the… hero of the Crystal Empire?” She gave a small smile. “They worship you now or something?” Her cheeks held a faint blush but it was invisible to everyone except Spike, who did his best to speak, despite her angelic voice and her stunning features.

“Yeah… I guess they do. They even build a statue of me.”

Susnset’s ears picked up.

“Really! That is amazing! I bet you have a ton of fans and ponies chasing you and all.”

Spike gave a cheeky grin.

“Well I do but it’s not like I go in there and expect a parade or something. I did what I had to do. I did it to not only save the Empire but to help out friends and do what any of them would have done if they were in my situations.”

“Nothing wrong with being a hero,” commented Celestia. “Each of you have saved lives on multiple occasions, whether by yourselves or with each other. Some feats many go through out their whole live, not achieved by others.” Her eyes focused on Talonus. “Though some might take longer than others.”

The dragon gave a hearty growl.

“And is that supposed to incline something, dear Princess?” he said with a grin.

“No nothing!” she said innocently, though the smile was there on her lips.

Just about everypony and dragon, was confused by the play of words and left confused, though it seemed that Sunset Shimmer is the only one who got it and was left drinking from her cup, hiding her blush.

With the feast done, at least for everypony else, Talonus focused his attention on Spike.

“With the meal done, I do believe my son and all of you have questions pertaining to why he was raised by ponies and Sunset by dragons?”

All nodded. Twilight the first to respond.

“Also, why this is the first that I or anypony has ever heard of being taken and raised by dragons.”

Talonus eyes focused on Celestia.

“Celestia?”

Celestia cleared her throat.

“Well to clear things out… this happened before I took in Twilight as my students some more than 20 years ago. I had brought Sunset in when she had a magical outburst from her orphanage. Yes, Sunset was an Orphan.”

Sunset lowered her head, almost feeling ashamed of it.

“But it was because of her… gift that I managed to find my first student to take in for the last century. More importantly, her pyrokinesis and that she was the strongest unicorn at the time. Just like Twilight’s magical outburst, I was there to help her out and conquer her magic.”

“Pyro-what-now?” asked Rainbow Dash.

“I can control fire.” Sunset said simply. “More so then others.”

“But couldn’t anypony err unicorn control da fire?” Commented Applejack. “Twi managed to start da fire with her horn.”

“It’s one thing to start a fire, Applejack.” Spoke Twilight. “It’s another thing to control it completely. Sunset has an amazing gift that is harder to control. Elements are difficult to control, much less create them nor create destruction.” She turned her head to Sunset who looked really crestfallen. “Uh, no offense.”

“None taken.” She mumbled before looking back up to them. “At first, I had no real control. I nearly burnt down the orphanage several times. The other’s called me ‘Firestarter’ or ‘Pyro-maniac’…”

Celestia laid her wing on Sunset. “It’s in the past and it is not your fault. “

Sunset nodded. Celestia turned her gaze back to the others.

“At the same time, the dragon council was having a conflict with their feral counterparts.”

“We had been trying to keep the ferals from going after ponies,” spoke Talonus. “Despite our… mutual alliances at the time, dragons and ponies stayed away from each other. However, with the dragon migration happening at the time, many had tried to capture or eat ponies when passing over towns.”

“In retaliation,” continued Celestia. “Dragon slayers rose up and began attacking them.”

Shinning Armor cleared his throat and spoke

“None of which were Celestial Guards or were under Celestia’s order.”

“So… freelance, dragon slayers?” asked Spike.

Celestia nodded.

“They hated knowing that had to go in hiding or had to move away from the area whenever the migrations passed over. Many had even began contracting or setting up dragon traps to hunt down or kills them.”

Spike visibly shuttered. “How many were successful?”

Celestia turned her head to Talonus and he shook his head.

“Enough to nearly create a war.” He sighed. “Despite the ferals and the Council having different views and… intellect… we still had a responsibility to watch our own.

“With war closing in, many of the council members were seeking either revenge or payment from the attacks. However, it was because of me and a few others, that we agreed a trade of sorts… to help ease our fight and hatred for one another.”

“Trade a pony for a dragon eggs?” asked Twilight, a bit apprehensive at the thought.

Celestia turned to Sunset. She really didn’t want to speak of what had happened but felt that now that they were speaking of Spike’s and her past, she felt she had no other choice.

“At first… Celestia told me she had a destiny planned out for me. That I was destined to become something great… something wonderful. She had told me that if I had practiced enough with my studies, that I would be closer to my destiny.”

“When she showed me a… Magic Mirror, I saw that I was destined to be an Alicorn Princess. But in order to do that, I had to learn the Magic of friendship.”

Twilight shifted in her seat and her eyes seem to show concentration and a hint of anger towards Celestia. She had planned for Sunset to be an alicorn.

“When I thought it was a dumb idea, she only encouraged I tried it. I didn’t want to and felt… at the time it was a waste. Not to mention that nothing in the mirror showed me I would be a Princess of ‘Friendship’ or that I didn’t need any. I felt anger knowing that Celestia wouldn’t show me any more magic or teach me more if I didn’t first try to gain friends.

“I thought she was holding me back, that she was keeping me from my destiny and that… the only way to do it was through her way. I didn’t want to listen and I was stupid enough to think that I could force my way into Alicorn by stealing a few forbidden books or find some other method. I would have ran into the magic mirror but… when I looked into it… I didn’t see me.”

Tears slipped from her eyes.

“I saw a demon, an evil… dark version of me, that didn’t look nothing like me. If I had run in to the mirror or would have found a way into Alicornhood, that I would end up as this evil entity. I didn’t know what to do at that point.”She hung her head. “I felt like I had failed, my own teacher… my mother, when I refused to listen to her.”

Twilight had also seen the mirror she spoke of. She had also seen some other version of her if she had stepped through. The mirror was known to show past, present or future. Whatever Twilight saw, it wasn’t either.

“What does this have to do with her getting traded by the dragons?” asked Dash.

“Rainbow Dash!” Spoke out Rarity, a bit harshly. “Can’t you see this is a sensitive subject for Sunset Shimmer?” she pointed.

Dash grumbled something and looked towards the crying Sunset, who had her head buried into Celestia’s breast. Celestia looked towards them.

“It was at this time that Talonus contacted me for a solution for the conflict that was between the dragons and ponies. His kind wanted a trade, something that can show that we could coexist with one another.

“I too had felt like I failed Sunset and that she had deserved more that what I could offer her. With Talonus seeking to provide aid for both of our kind, I found a solution to both Sunset’s problem and his.” She paused as she pushed Sunset away and looked down at her. “Something I prayed that wouldn’t end up regretting.”

“I offered to teach her to control and enhance her pyro-kinetic abilities.” Continued Talonus. He focused his eyes to Sunset who gave a small smile to him. “She may not be an Alicorn for it but she would become the most powerful Pyromancer known.”

“At first I didn’t want it.” Spoke Sunset, clearing her eyes and moving away from Sunset. “I was scared beyond death, thinking that… Celestia was going to abandon me or feed me to the dragons for failing her.”

A twinge crossed Twilight as she remembered feeling the same way before. Always thinking that Celestia would no longer before her student or send her back to Magic Kindergarten… though being fed to a dragon sounded worse.

“But she reassured me that I didn’t have to go and find some other pony to volunteer, I knew that I was being selfish and… felt like I needed to atone for my actions. I would willingly join the dragon empire and in exchange for my safety, the dragons would give one of the eggs to the Princess to raise and nurture it.”

“So why didn’t you?” asked Fluttershy. “I mean, not that your bad or anything but why use the egg for the entrance exam?”

Celestia thought for a moment.

“At first I would have, but then, I felt that I would be neglecting the hatchling if I were to try to hatch him and not take care him, with my duties constantly in the way. I was about to give it to one of my most trusted caretakers but Talonus had told me that because of Spike’s mother, the egg might need to be hatched by magic.”

Spike would have commented but remained quiet. If he wanted to hear about his mother, he would hear it from Talonus… err his father.

“So… you put it in the entrance exam and… hoped that one unicorn would be able to open it up with magic?” Questioned Twilight. Celestia nodded. “And with so many before me had failed, what would have happened if I failed?”

Celestia opened her mouth to speak but couldn’t. It was no secret… well not anymore that Twilight’s destiny was to be the Element of Magic and that she would be destined to ascend. One thing that was failed to be mentioned was that if she couldn’t crack open Spike’s egg, who would?

“Something I believe that should be discussed between you and her.” Commented Talonus. Celestia shot him a look and he returned it back, though a bit more stern. “Should you not be able to open my son’s egg, Celestia would have continued on with more and more students until it was not till a long while before any who tried would give up before they started. She would have opened it up for herself and raised it. That would cause conflict with her and her duties and either have them turn on her or cause a distrust between her and her ponies.”

His eyes turned to Twilight.

“That is why… if by fate or gods, that you didn’t fail, Princess Twilight. You had truly a blessing that millions of others will never receive.” His eyes pierced hers. “Your name is sung through the dragons as a the unnamed hero that many don’t wish to acknowledge. Your destiny was planned or even mentioned amongst us.

“The defeat of the Nightmare to plunge night eternal, to stop the Madness of a Draconequus Lord globally, to imprisoning a god of evil, even when all your magic gone; no feats have been accomplished since the rise of the Sisters.

“The Princess of Friendship, bringer of Harmony and Light, the Star Guider, and the savior of the world… All of this planned before your birth.” Nopony spoke and no one really had to, because they were either shocked or to amazed by the dragon’s words. “That being said, your destiny still continues on and your gifts will only grow stronger with now the return of Sunset Shimmer. You may not know it yet but she had also been mentioned in the stars.”

Sunset Shimmer smiled a bit of that. She had always thought that her destiny had been changed or screwed the moment she failed Celestia, but when her father told her that she still had to play her part in Equestria’s destiny, she had kept her hopes up.

“With her here now, she can continue with that Destiny and Spike can come home to fulfill his destiny by becoming a dragon Lord.”
